Do you feel like geography is important for pilots to know on a Global Scale?

Years ago, we allowed company employees other than maintenance to ride in the cockpit. We had 3 seats for Pax on the dc9. A couple of the management ladies were riding to hub with us in OH coming from SEA. At one point, they asked us where we were? We didn't really know, lol! We were both reading the paper or some bullshit and atc gave us a heading cleared direct. We were somewhere over Montana, I think, just about to cross over into SD. No GPS vor and adf only, and nobody tuned vors as you went along in radar contact. We stopped in FSD for freight, and they were trying to clear us for a visual. They were watching us trying to spot the airport out the window. Neither of us had been there in a while. They asked us after we landed if didn’t know where the airport was, lol. I told her that sometimes we don't see the runway until we are 100' above it. Overall, we didn't impress them much!. I remember flying (dc9) out of Edmonton tracking a vor until we lost the signal then holding a heading until receiving an NDB in the Yukon and tracking using that until we lost it, holding a heading until picking up a vor in AK, on our way to Anchorage. Fun times. 7k hrs and 13 yrs with 2 vors and 2 adf traveling everywhere! Never gost lost, though, always seemed to find our destination.
