well they didn't do the worst, and all of them penetrated the minimum amount. .380 is always a compromise, either they don't penetrate or they don't expand (the Remington seems to be about the middle of the road for both), I'll shoot 100 of these through my carry gun and if they all go bang I won't hesitate to carry them.

These did not expand reliably at all. Only 1 out of 5 properly performed. That is piss poor performance. There are rounds that expand reliably with adequate penetration so there is absolutely no reason to carry these.

Anything that is gonna be loaded up so hot in .380 that it is gonna penetrate and expand out of my little lcp II, I don't wanna carry because I wanna confidently be able to shoot it. This stuff is loaded down for mouse guns supposedly.

Lucky Gunner also says the 115gr Gold Dots do the best out of the Glock 43. Well they probably do, on paper, it is a nice round, but it is INCREDIBLY snappy in a G43. I carry them in my 19X. I don't want some underwood crazy hot .380 in a mouse gun, I want something that I can confidently shoot and that will feed reliably. It doesn't hurt that I might get expansion.

I'm kinda in the Paul Harrel school of ammo when it comes to hollow points, I have a lot of HST and Gold Dots because I can get the Law Enforcement overrun boxes cheap but the old Winchester and Federal 115 and 147 grain stuff still works very well, and I don't think it really matters all that much in the end. The better gunfighter is probably gonna win regardless of what kinda ammo you give them and the person with the malfuctions because they bought a 20 box of "the best of the best" shot 7 rounds, loaded 13, and has a malfunction is super fucked.

380 is highly dependant on barrel length to achieve the correct velocity for the ammo. Even a quarter of an inch can make a huge difference.

Correct. And the lucky gunner 380 tests were tested from a Glock 42 which is a 3.25" barrel and likely the average barrel length most would carry in 380.

Bodyguard 2.0 and Ruger LCP are both 2.75" and combined probably outsell the G42 10:1. I haven't seen any HP that will expand and get adequate penetration out of the 2.75" barrels.

Thanks for sharing the ballistics tests link. Interesting to see the variability of expansion. It's inadvertently a hybrid FMJ/HP depending on clothing clogging it up. Is that weirdly a benefit? Some you'll get good expansion, others penetration depth.

I bought a box of Federal HSTs 99gr to carry but they seem to expand worse comparatively. Of course, shot placement outweighs everything.

I'm new to carrying a 380 (the new bodyguard 2.0 is just too good) but the results of these rounds seem good enough if the shooter does their part.

It’s my understanding the Golden Saber bullet (102gr) is a better performer albeit a little slower obviously. .380 in general doesn’t appear to be devastating in gel but will get the job done. I’m sure those 88gr JHPs will be effective as well. Can’t really go wrong at the price.

Both said that Speed Gold Dot worked well. One guy couldn't get Critical Defense to work and Smith and Wesson actually ask him to send it back for a "fix". Not sure if they're just going to polish the feed ramp or what but he didn't send it back yet.

I wouldn’t say that in this case. It seems with 380 you really have some caveats with expansion vs penetration. With 9mm I think we are pretty set on a few loads that do everything most need.

This is a screaming deal. I just paid the same cpr for ball ammo just last week. Was going to get 500 but bumped it to 1k. You would be crazy to not pounce on this at this price.

Even if it isn't meta defensive ammo, the fact you can train with it, ensure it feeds, and shoots reliability at the same price of ball ammo is kind of priceless to ensure its good to go should you decide to carry it. My bodyguard 2.0 is going to be eating good.
