I can kind of relate. For some reason, people on discord think feedback and advice automatically means you're friends.
Almost everytime I gave suggestions to someone asking about PC parts on discord, or how to improve their writing or helping them with their English, it almost always involves them messaging you and going from asking occasionally about advice on the topic, to telling you about their day, problem, friends, beliefs, etc.
It doesn't sound too annoying but for some reason these people are almost always a) Extremely self centered and only want to talk about themsleves B)Seem to take things way too personally and C)Can't get a fucking hint.
My advice to anon is to just ignore personal messages all together on that dog shit platform
Eventually they started getting into being a 'femboy' and started to buy wigs, skirts, etc and talking to me about how their mom reacted, etc. it was really fucking weird and I started ignoring them all together when they started to send pictures showing more and more skin.
Life truly gives bread to those with no teeth 💔🥀

And I personally don't mind being friendly and talking with someone even if started through advice. I just keep encountering self centered socially inept manchildren back to back to back.
"what's mIRC", thanks for making me feel fuckin' old. It's an early chat client, you connect to servers which have channels. Basically discord's daddy.
I find it funny that people who grew up with mIRC specifically tend to just call the whole thing that, while anyone using any other clients usually just says IRC.
And yeah discord is IRC's spiritual successor though I am sad that you can't selfhost
I feel like you're just seeing the worst of them because the good ones don't get in a position to talk to you since they understand advice doesn't mean being friends.
The reason you are missing here is that these folks all have very low (irl) social skills and/or confidence. If you reply in a somewhat decent manner, there's a good chance someone on Discord (especially public servers) will misconstrue it as you actually being friendly, rather than just polite. Had that happen a few times as well, and it was always folks who had low to no standard social awareness of boundaries.
Kinda sad actually; they probably never learned where others usually draw the line, and now they're at the age where people expect it from them, so they don't get chances to learn.
20 years ago I was playing around with podcasts and blogs. I had some following that would contact me by e-mail from time to time.
One time a 14 yo kid got in touch with me and we talked for a bit. I gave him some guidance on building computers (he was building his first).
Eventually we became friends. 10 years later we ended up living in the same city and met. Later on I hired him for a technical job (he was pretty good).
We are still friends but he is living in another city.
Considering it's 4chan, it's not unreasonable to think repliers would respond with "Lmao this guy is talking to kids on Discord, diddler" without ever addressing the original point
It’s not inherently weird at all. It’s only weird because of the implication. If perodphiles didn’t exist it wouldn’t be weird. Therefore not inherently weird.
What do you mean "what am I supposed to do"? Dude, whatever you want; it's not your problem, you'll be living the same life no matter what happens to the guy.
He's right though. There's a limit to how much kindness one person can offer.
Endlessly offering life advices to someone with trauma takes a real toll and is more stressful thn you think.
If you search Facebook, there are lots of support groups for people experiencing depression, and then there are also groups specifically for those supporting individuals with depression (i.e. spouses, friends, families, caretakers).
So yeah, I'm definitely on the same page as him with this. If you feel like you can't continue to support someone coping with their misfortunes, then stop it at will even if you feel tremendous guilt about yourself. Your well-being is mattered too.
True, there's a friend I have on Discord and he keeps trauma dumping about how he's a failure because he's 24 and he already "wasted his life" and is overweight without a girlfriend, and I've tried my best to help him but he just refuses to take my advice, and at this rate I dunno what to do, so I just don't respond, it takes serious mental toll.
I love that you guys don’t think OP knows this. It’s like you’ve never been empathetic towards someone in your life - once you start caring about someone, you can’t just stop caring. That’s the entire dilemma. The dude literally addresses that in his post, but you idiots can’t read so what do I expect.
You might wanna get yourself checked - like I am not faulting you or anything but maybe you actually do have sociopathic personality disorder ? Because that's unusually little empathy for other people...

OP just don't be a dick (unless they ask for money and is clearly an scam, then be one).
so i've found a lot of these people are actually scammers who are selling the work off on things like fiver, they post in facebook groups "i need help doing this here" and then usually someone does it for them for free out of kindness and then they sell it to the person who commissioned it on facebook or such.
