I need some positivity, what great people's achievements or things have been going on in the UK recently?

Or a local that uses a bus, car or taxi. Tourists can walk around easier though I guess.

the busses and road have been diverted down another road right next door with basically zero estimated delays (sub one minute) also, it's London, everyone within zones 1-3 uses trains or walks constantly unless they're disabled or a wanker
View on Reddit #55446941

mynameisfreddit@reddit

When you divert busses down another street, the rest of the traffic doesn't vanish, it causes delays and congestion.
View on Reddit #55451279

Induced demand works in both directions. Just look at Seoul's highway removal, or San Francisco's earthquake assisted one, traffic volumes went down and in both cases traffic actually improved.

Does make it easier for mobility scooters too. The new ones are pretty great for people who cant walk. Most of the convenience of electric stand on scooters except less dangerous lol.

https://www.england.nhs.uk/2025/04/nhs-rolls-out-5-minute-super-jab-for-15-cancers/ The health service is rolling out an injectable form of immunotherapy, nivolumab, which means patients can receive their fortnightly or monthly treatment in 5 minutes instead of up to an hour via an IV drip. The new jab can be used to treat 15 cancer types, including skin cancer, bladder, and oesophagus, and it is estimated around 1,200 patients in England per month could benefit.

And it will only be available in 4 tiny hospitals
View on Reddit #55433061

blahehblah@reddit

I don't know where you get your information from but that is not correct. From the article: > Most eligible new patients are also expected to begin on the injectable form of nivolumab. > NHS cancer services will now be preparing to treat the first patients with the new treatment next month when supplies of the product are received in the UK, helping to free up valuable resources in nursing and pharmacy teams, as well as helping with capacity demands in cancer day units, where the drug is currently administered.
View on Reddit #55436205

Cumulus-Crafts@reddit

As someone with Crohn's, there's an injectable variant of our medication (similar to this). It looks like an Epipen and it just gets sent straight to the patient's house from the distributor, which is even better :)
View on Reddit #55487374

Big-Yam8021@reddit

First of all, I was being facetious. Second, nowhere does it say how many hospitals will be offering it.
View on Reddit #55438067

Remarkable-Wash-7798@reddit

It's the first country to approve the jab. Everywhere else is still trialling I believe. So yes NHS wait times can be awful but we have beat the rest with this.
View on Reddit #55440388

haikoup@reddit

Yeah I get it’s available but we can’t just make an appointment and get it can we
View on Reddit #55455893

johnmuirsghost@reddit

The NHS is pretty good at medication distribution, it's procedures and consultations that have the horrific waiting times.
View on Reddit #55438536

lost_send_berries@reddit

Well it'll be less as it takes five minutes per patient instead of an hour
View on Reddit #55434786

GastricallyStretched@reddit

If the injectable form isn't available, the patient would still get it via the standard method which is IV. It's not a new drug, just a new method of administering it, but it will save loads of time for some patients and NHS staff.
View on Reddit #55434351

weetabixbandit@reddit

Other biologics used to treat autoimmune conditions have been readily available on the NHS for some time with no waiting list. Hopefully this will be the same, it's a quick and easy administration for most biologics with the most complicated part being the pre-screening.
View on Reddit #55433728

Cumulus-Crafts@reddit

I'm on remsima, which is similar to nivolumab. Remsima was first designed as a chemotherapy drug, before it was found to be more useful against autoimmune disorders, such as Crohn's disease, colitis, arthritis, psoriasis... Basically any condition that has a root of chronic inflammation. Every six weeks, I go into hospital for a three hour long infusion. I bring my tablet, my phone, and my Nintendo Switch. I get to sit in a comfy armchair and watch my shows until my infusion is done. Remsima took me from almost dying of Crohn's disease to not having any symptoms in just under three months. In the US, the treatment would cost between $3k-$12k per session. It's one of the most expensive drugs out there. In the UK, thanks to the NHS, it's completely free.
View on Reddit #55487298

Sitsey01@reddit

I'm on a medication like this called adalimumab for Crohn's Disease. It's so much easier doing it at home than sitting at the hospital for hours. Been on it for a few years now and it's literally a life saver.

Exactly, my boiler went (old back boiler and tank) and I may be able to get a grant for a few K knocked off the £7500 quote from British gas. It's going through atm. Even if I cannot I can pay it off interest free in 2 years. I rarely use the heating, have an electric shower, gas stove so it's not been too hard the past month. Just really missing a deep hot bath though lol.
View on Reddit #55424715

Maybe ask BOXT for a heat pump quote. £7500 grant towards a retrofit, and they only cost about 4p per kWh of heat - probably half the cost of your old boiler.

I've been driving long stretches over the past few weeks (only 150 miles or so) and each time I've finished the drive I've got a smattering of bugs on my windscreen and bonnet. Annoying, because now I've got to clean all the gunk off. But absolutely on the bright side, it means there's more insects around, which is 100% a positive for the biomass of local wildlife. I don't mind being annoyed at having to clean if it means the UK is improving ecologically (even if it's only marginal).

Whale and dolphin sightings are up around the UK too. One major reason is probably climate change which isn't great news but since there's not much us as individials can do about that lets enjoy the cool ass water mammals. If anybody hears of an idiot who jumps in with orca and is the 1st person to die from a wild one, it 100% was not me.

The fact that vaccine scepticism hasn't taken hold in the land that invented it. Children are dying from measles in US. In fact I've seen moves for chicken pox vaccine being part of child vaccine schedule. The slow but steady adoption of heat pumps and EVs. Neighbours and friends are adopting independent of the clamour in the media. The SuperLoop busses in London are cheap and a fantastic idea. I got across town to Heathrow for £3.50 last year.

Medical Cannabis has rapidly increased to as many as 80,000 patients and is continuing to accelerate. It would be cool to also see them work with B&M and Mack again given how good Hulk is and how Stardust Racers is shaping up. It also might give Merlin a kick up the arse to actually make meaningful investments into their parks, and not stuff like Ghost Train that was a complete waste of money and just plainly sucked.

Depending on how you view things, we are one of the leading countries in the new free world. 1. The current government is working on and showing better results with the immigration crisis than we have ever seen - despite it being small, it's a better start than previously. 2. Whilst what is going on in America looks scary, it has been a wake up call that our current government has recognized very quickly and seems to be adapting to better than I thought they would. I just want to add: I was at a carboot today, where lots of demographics mix. I overheard an older lady complaining that we weren't allowed to celebrate VE day today, and that the government should be shot. I worry about where these people get their information from, and how often they consume it, which is why I find the current governments actions such a breath of fresh air

The ENT day bed ward had ok enough toys (although he wanted to do playdoh and that wasn’t a good idea with that numbing cream and plasters on both hands!) and he’s recovered almost instantly; he said yesterday and I spoke to him from the bottom of the garden “Mummy I can hear exactly what you said” 🥰

So I work in a primary school. Tbh a big part of why I do is because the kids are hilarious and having loads of children being excited to see you every day (or anytime I'm out; it's like being a really really shit minor local celebrity) really helps my mood in general. We have some families where the parents are both dads. This interaction features one of the children from those families (let's call him Xavier. The name is unique, we all know who it is by first name): It was hot last week, everyone was in summery dresses if they could be. This particular LSA doesn't 'do' dresses often so she was feeling herself and happy about it. I told her she looked nice. "oh thanks. Yes, Xavier has also just told me he likes the dress. Do you want to know what he said after that?" yes, obviously. "My dad has one just like it at home!" 😂 (Yes this actually happened, I assume he's heard the banter from an adult because this is quite a small child, think key stage one age. Perfect timing though! We've all been laughing about it for days)

I was in A &E on Friday. All of a sudden a woman with a voice that could be heard through time bellowed "SHE'S FITTING" obviously putting her pipes to very good use in a scary and potentially life threatening situation. Within no more than two seconds the alarm went off and no more than 10 seconds probably less, 13 nurses appeared followed by a doctor. I was incredibly impressed with how calm, collected yet worked with impressive speed as one body to get her down to the floor, gently held her in recovery until she was still, lifted her onto a trolley and whisked her away. All the while her aggrieved friend/family member was getting close to the staffs faces screeching "YOUR FUCKING SHIT. I CANT FUCKING STAND YOU" I've never been so impressed with the NHS. If you are a nurse or doctor, thank you for what you do.

I'm glad you're doing well now! I love them too! I am prone to a fort-yearly (there has got to be a word for that..) incident on the more serious side, so I've become well acquainted with A&E, and they're wonderful! When it's serious (breaks, head injuries, jaw hanging off etc) I'm dealt with right away, and on the one occasion it's been less serious but still a problem (minor fracture) they've got to me within a sensible time for the injury. Absolutely brilliant, I'm asthmatic and a type 1 diabetic (not the best combo for someone with a passion for distance cycling haha), so I see them every so often for a checkups, always brilliant and straight in - and out with a receipt to go and pick up my bits from the chemist down the street. How prescriptions are handled here is great, seeing what people go through in the states and similar places cost wise really puts into perspective how we have it. Similarly I'll not have anyone talk stupid about them, what they do for us is wonderful.

Our town has a food festival on at the moment. Maybe 30-40 stalls, and when I went there was a really pretty good band playing, people enjoying pints in the sun (yeah the wind is cold, alas). I have lived overseas for quite a few years and it was really nice to mooch about, but the kids some samosas and then some fudge, and just enjoy it. Our library's really good. The health centre, pool etc is good. I'm in so used to doing without these things that I forget I have access to them now. They're great! Our town actually has a lot on that I often miss, so I'm signing up for the council's social media announcement. There's a lot of good happening at the local level.

Absolutely looking forward to a stronger CANZUK, with fingers crossed a bloc-based cooperation with one of the world's largest common economic, diplomatic, and cultural groups. The political and economic power of such a widespread and diverse cooperation would be a boon to pretty much every member, and would go a large way to insulating members from the buffoonery of Canada's unfortunate 'apartment above a meth lab' situation.
