Chippendales & Thunder From Under

Will these show die with our generation? A few years ago I was going through a divorce and (older) friends of mine invited me to one of those shows and I was like what the hell. I noticed that the crowd was filled with boomers, older GenX and a bunch of (lack of a better word for these girls) virgins. It was a yucky feeling being there and watching how these women were acting. I don’t wanna yuck someone’s yum but I do think this is form of entertainment might be dying off after us and the millennials stop going.

My mother alongside our sitter, neighbor and her older daughters went to see Chippendales around 1991. Later after my mother and I were driving through Vegas on the way back to my duty station after my deployment in 2006, she offered to take me to a show. I said, "No thanks". I'd rather see the Fantasy burlesque show at the Luxor.

My first trip to vegas I went to see this show. It was me, my best friend, and his mother's girlfriend. It was fun but it was kinda awkward begin the only two dudes there. My bestie and I had a great time. Even took pics with the guys after. I do think that chippendales and the like have/are phasing out. However, you've got *Magic Mike.*

There are less strip clubs in my city now, then when it had half as many people, so I'd definitely say it's a dying genre.... these youths today just don't appreciate throwing loonies at a young ladies nether parts...don't know what's wrong with them.

I went to Vegas for a work conference 20 odd years ago and my flight back was filled with people who worked at the same company. One lady was laughing and talking about how she and some other women went to Thunder Down Under the night before. Never looked at her the same again. She was a late Boomer.

I went to the Magic Mike show in Vegas w friends. We upgraded to the VIP balcony. The male dancers come up and give lap dances and you tip them with Monopoly money. It felt really weird and gross and not sexy. I am happily married and consider myself open minded and my husband was totally fine with me going. But I felt like I was almost being assaulted. (I do not have a history of SA, but I cannot imagine my reaction if I did). Anyways, I actually did not have a good time and would not recommend.

I'd like to think so. Apparently, we've already "killed" Hooters, so I'm imagining these are next. I think both concepts are equally gross. Also, bachelor(ette) parties with strippers? Miss me with all that.

I was a strip club dj 20 years ago when Thunder came to our club. Worked the whole show for them playing music and whatever they needed. They made over $15k in a couple hours. Fucking asshole manager walks up and tries to hand me a $20 for a tip. I told him to fuck off. Still grinds my gears.

I went to see Thunder From Down Under when a friend invited me about... 15 years ago? Even then it was awkward as all hell and we both ended up audience watching more than dancer watching. I'm most definitely not a prude, think burlesque and sensual dance are wonderful, but this was just bleh. That said, the Matthew McConaughey opening scene from Magic Mike is still delicious :D

There is a boomer dive bar in my area that had posters for one of these shows in the ladies room. The flyer looked like it was designed for gay men in mind and not women. My spouse and I are queer and he agreed with me; I am not exaggerating. I really don't know any women my age or younger who would think it looked appealing.

the only time i ever saw one of these was some Magic Mike esque touring show that came through the tiiiiiny Idaho ski town i lived in. my friends and i just went to laugh (i think it might have been free? and being a young woman in a ski town you’re not exactly starved for male attention so certainly not gonna pay for it) but it was PACKED with tradwife mormon women 🤣. there is always going to be an audience for these as long as that demographic exists
