I'd rather pay a little more for the AUG Nato with bolt release.
ghost1814@reddit
What’s the best version of the AUG for using PMAGs? The A3/M2 is confusing, it feels like there’s 75 different versions of 5.56 AUGs.
Winner_Pristine@reddit
I don't know, I don't have experience with them but I was looking into them. The new Nato version accepts AR15 mags and has a bolt release. The old Nato version did not have a bolt release. I would prefer having a bolt release and using ar15 mags so the new model sounds good to me.
I agree the part numbers are confusing. I believe this is the part number and UPC for the Nato w/bolt release.
Model: AUGM2A3BLKNATOEXT UPC: 688218838600

Theres no real reason to own this firearm over others other than it looking cool and being fun. That being said, waffle gang or bust.
growling_booby@reddit
AUG makes as lot of sense to me ... having a 20" AUG vs a 20" AR ... you get a lot of velocity in a little package with the AUG
Platanium@reddit
The cheekweld and how it sits in my arms are amazing. Only negative I guess is in stock config a c clamp is a little less comfortable
redacted_robot@reddit
C-clamp the suppressor. Skin is for pussies.
Platanium@reddit
Sorry I'm like half puss. I c clamp at the end of the rail next to the gas plug. Already have some nice marks on my hand and gloves
ColdStoneCreamAustin@reddit
So the same reason I own 99% of my other firearms?
xTehSpoderManx@reddit
Im right there with you man, theres no reason why I or anyone else needs a .32 mouse gun but its still in my safe.
The point of my comment is that if youre going to buy a "not really practical" firearm, buy the cooler version on it. Hell, 10% of the reason that I went with the non NATO version was so that I could have a fabricated feeling of superiority to the stanags. It really keeps me going.
redacted_robot@reddit
I need to start a spreadsheet to keep track of all the nonsensical reasons I've used to justify my various gun related purchases. Once it crept into optics and suppressors the money really started flowing too fast.
Train2Perfection@reddit
Die hard.
I_had_the_Lasagna@reddit
This is why I own a 92fs, and an ap5p. And one day an Aug as well.
Trigunesq@reddit
one day may never come. Today is now. Buy AUG.
I_had_the_Lasagna@reddit
In the last month I bought a Glock 20, 2 px4s, a shitload of mags for each, holsters, and something like 5k rounds of ammunition..... Today is definitely not now...
RandoAtReddit@reddit
My stockpile of STANAGs says otherwise.
xTehSpoderManx@reddit
My stockpile of stanags and the voice of reason meant nothing to me as I proceeded to buy a stockpile of waffle mags. You’re smarter than me.
RandoAtReddit@reddit
Lol I had to go with the NATO when I got mine. Too many mags already. When I put my A-Team Mini-14 together it irritated me I had to buy a stack of new mags for it. At least they're nickel.
TooMuchPretzels@reddit
It’s so cool but my wife said no
xTehSpoderManx@reddit
Ask her boyfriend
TooMuchPretzels@reddit
He also said no 😫
xTehSpoderManx@reddit
Dammit man, I also asked my wife’s bf and he said that you can’t have one either. I’ll let you shoot mine if you bring your own ammo, but none of that steel case shit.
Crafty-Strategy-7959@reddit
How do these suppress, generally?
InfiniteWalrus09@reddit
As others have said reduced back pressure cans work well. Honestly if you get 300 blackout barrel it’s shockingly quiet. At my gun range they stopped me because their monitoring equipment couldn’t pick up any gunshot, they were surprised.
Minimum_Government@reddit
You want a flow through can.
LegendActual@reddit
M1 needed a separate suppressor gas plug to not be grotesquely overgassed. Not sure if they fixed that with M2.
RevolutionaryJello@reddit
No change in the barrels and gassing between M1 and M2 (or any generation of AUG for that matter, since all barrels are compatible across all generations of AUG).
Wait for KNS.
RevolutionaryJello@reddit
Depends, but generally poorly with factory options. The 14.5" barrel is better gassed than the 16" and 20" barrels. The suppressor plug helps, but with a higher backpressure traditional can it is still overgassed even on the 14.5" barrel on suppressed setting.
KNS is coming out with an adjustable plug that should hopefully be released by end of year, and from the prototype testing that I've seen, makes the gun much much more pleasant to shoot suppressed.
jazzman97@reddit (OP)
With a reduced back pressure suppressor it's pretty good, but with any traditional suppressor you'll definitely want the Steyr gas plug for suppressed shooting. Makes a very big difference.
Here's the link to the Steyr website: https://steyr-arms.us/shop/gas-regulator-for-suppressed-firing/
Famanche@reddit
Also KNS is coming out with an adjustable piston system for the AUG later this year, so hopefully that will help out a lot with adding many extra gas settings
Sneezer@reddit
Note this is not the new model that now includes the bolt release on the NATO stock.
skippythemoonrock@reddit
Any good deals on mags? Going to be building a Nylaug in a bit.
cowboy123456@reddit
im currently working on a build now. really enjoying the process.
AssaultPlazma@reddit
Does this have the bolt release?
AimingSouthwest@reddit
These are awesome but I can’t lie, not a ton of fun to shoot. Trigger is tough to overlook.
PhysicalGuidance358@reddit
Once you learn the trigger its not that bad . Its no 3lb drop in ar trigger but once you learn a good steady pull I can shoot very nice groups with mine
AimingSouthwest@reddit
Yeah, maybe I should give it another chance. Shot it like 3 times in last couple years.
PhysicalGuidance358@reddit
For me once I learned how to shoot the aug well I noticed I shoot double action guns better now as well .
shaven_craven@reddit
Aw but I want waffle mag version!
redacted_robot@reddit
3D print a waffle cover for stanag mags.
omahusker@reddit
How do these compare to other Bullpups? Really what’s the best overall one out there
roboqwop1@reddit
Unless you want one desperately I'd say give em just a few more years. The market is slowly progressing and realizing people will buy a good bullpup. I'm personally waiting for the PSA Jakl bullpup concept to come out
omahusker@reddit
I can definitely wait a few years. I’m still trying to decide what to build for an actual nice 11.5 5.56 and a .300 blackout since all my current stuff is entry level. Oh and increase my suppressor collection lol
herogerik@reddit
Your two main competitors to this would be the Tavor X95 and the Springfield Hellion (VHS-2). AUG has the classic cool factor, Tavor probably has the best ergos, and Hellion is the most accurate.
FullySemiGhostGun@reddit
I wound up buying an x95 for “best overall” because of the aftermarket support to not make the trigger suck ass but there really isn’t a definitive answer. These are classic and their iconic status cannot be replaced.
Trigunesq@reddit
I think you really gotta hold em. I love the way the AUG settles in the hands. For me, the weight is perfectly balanced. I didnt love the x95 as much. It felt like I was fighting the rifle trying to tilt backwards. Other people have felt the x95 settled perfectly and the AUG felt wrong. I woulda bought an x95 if it wasnt for how much I love the way the AUG feels. I venture to say that is why bullpups are so "love em or hate em." For some people, bullpups feel natural and to others, less so.

x95 is only 1695 here with no tax except in texas
omahusker@reddit
That’s a fair statement. I guess I have went down the mp5 rabbit hole recently so maybe I’m on my classic gun phase now
Sonic_Is_Real@reddit
X95 specifically for ar style mag release is what my research led me to
RNAguns@reddit
Funny but if you're referring to ergonomics, actually holding and firing bullpups is far more comfortable and less fatiguing than traditional rifles. The rear bias, compact size and almost no weight hanging out in front of you makes it extremely nimble and comfy during use. Manipulating controls, however, is more clumsy.
fasty1@reddit
Will a 1600 AR-15 be much better than this rifle?
failwheeldrive1@reddit
Better in some ways, worse in others. Parts availability, aftermarket support, trigger, and accessory mounting are clearly a ton better on an AR. Balance, packaging, and space gat vibes are better on the AUG. Just get both.
Trigunesq@reddit
Getting both is always the answer.
rrrice3@reddit
Not for Die Hard LARPing, no!
VorpalBlade-@reddit
Pretty sweet but I’ll probably end up just getting a bullpup kit on a cheap o PSA haha unless I win the lottery or something.
Gamer_Pandamic@reddit
Have they fixed the stock cracking issue I read about in the past ~year?
jazzman97@reddit (OP)
From what I have seen yes. It was pretty much just A3M1 stocks that were produced from a singular batch where the polymers were not mixed correctly. There are a couple posts on the AUG sub that show how to identify which batch it is from.
lilcoold12345@reddit
Yes. That hasn't been a problem for any new production Augs. If you pick up a used one during pandemic time they'll send you out a stock to replace it with from what I hear.
jazzman97@reddit (OP)
This is the lowest price when searching by UPC for the AUG A3 M2s. This one has the Black NATO Stock that takes AR Mags. These are different than the previous A3M1 receivers and are more similar to the original A3 (they can accept the same rails I think).
