It’s been so long since I used a physical disk, modern games are tens of gb’s - would they even fit on a disk? In fact I remember RDR2 being the last disk based game I had and that required a hefty download to supplement the disks. Nostalgia aside, digital is king.

Download usually, but the exception is for my Nintendo Switch. The Switch has inadequate internal storage and I don't fancy buying another SD card (i've filled a 256 Mb one already). Plus their games hardly come down in price so I can sell a physical copy on ebay and get 70% of my money back. On xbox most of the games I play are on gamepass, or I buy them for cheap on sale. Nintendo games are much less discounted so I would rather have the option to recoup my costs.

On PS5 - digital only. Switching between games is quick and simple. Quick Resume feature works well. A disc is just slower for everything. But I like collector’s edition stuff, and I do purchase some very anticipated games on disc for both PC and PS5 very occasionally.

I had to go check to see if my current laptop even has a disc drive. It doesn't. But, all else being equal, I'd always choose a physical copy. However, nothing else *is* equal, so I tend to go digital for convenience, portability, etc. That ability to go from hearing about a game to watching a gameplay demo to playing it in the space of an hour has significantly changed my relationship with gaming, though. And not entirely for the better.

You can resell or buy secondhand, though. Imo if you're a console gamer then you should avoid digital copies because they cost more and you don't have quite the same degree of ownership.

Disks for console, unless there's a good deal on the PS Store. Nothing quite beats physically owning the game, especially because it allows reselling/buying secondhand. PC gaming is practically exclusively downloading/streaming, though there isn't usually the sort of premium that you pay for digital copies on consoles.

Digital for sure. The ability to switch between games seamlessly without actually needing to get up off your arse is convenience at the finest. I used to enjoy buying physical copies and collecting hundreds of cases years ago, but since the push to buy digital and plus getting more rewards and bonuses this way, I’ve not really gone back.

The last time I bought a game disk was at the launch of Xbox One in 2014. I've been all digital since then. Thanks to Xbox Gamepass and lots of deals I never struggle to find good prices for Xbox and PC games. PS5 it's a little trickier.

For Xbox, I’m happy with downloads most of the time. I’ll grab a few games on disc, but I’m not too concerned about building a collection. Nintendo, it’s physical unless physical doesn’t exist. The cost of Nintendo first party games for download and the fact they almost never go on sale is the driving factor. I’m not above getting physical games imported when a physical PAL copy doesn’t exist and there isn’t a big price difference between that and digital (looking at you, Ace Attorney series).

I used to do just digital. But a few years ago a game I loved was removed from the PlayStation online store due to a rights issue and stated that to keep playing it I would have to keep the game on my console. Since then, disks all the way.

For my consoles, Discs/cartridges because they are always always always cheaper to buy both new and on sale. I always say that I can resell them too if I want to, but never get around to it. I'll never understand why someone will spend £70 on a new game via PSN, rather than £50ish (sometimes £45) from Shopto. For my Deck, for obvious reasons, it's digital only but that's because games on Steam actually tend to get deep sales after a much shorter period of time.

On Switch I'll usually go physical for things where it's an option, and save SD card space for things where it *isn't.* Most of my other consoles are old enough that second-hand physical is the only option anyway. My PC games are pretty much all through Steam so that's all downloaded.

I was always all for physical disks right up until the latest generation. I have hundreds of physical PS1 - PS4 games, yet for PS5 I just have one and all the rest are digital. The convenience of digital games far outweighs owning a physical disk for me now

I still prefer discs for PS5 as I can then get the price I want to pay rather than been stuck on the PS store (paying the extra money to allow discs pays itself back when you aren’t stuck buying overpriced games on their store). However I haven’t had a disc on PC since about 2009. I remember the first time I had to run a game via steam (Empire Total War!) and it took about 2 days to install.

I PC game exclusively. We haven't had disks (or disk drives really) for a long time. I'm in two minds if this is s good or bad thing. On the one hand, having to find storage for my gaming collection. No thanks. Being able to have that collection wherever I want without having to lug around the collection, bonus. On the otherhand, my access to those games is at the grace of the companies, if they decide to not allow me access or for whatever reason collapse, the poof, my collection is gone.

Although I was an avid gamer in my teens, in my 30's with a family the vast majority of my gaming is done via Microsofts Game Pass and often via Cloud. I love that I have access to all sorts of random stuff, can dip in and out without having to basically do anything. Certainly couldn't imagine faffing about with disks, I think the last discs I got were the ones that happened to come with my XBox One
