Why is there so much roadkill atm?

Does this usually happen in spring? Just this past few weeks I've seen 3 dead dear, 4 dead badgers, 2 dead cats(?) all along the M66 Hate seeing it, makes me think we should have some sort of netting or fence along Dual carriageways or roads with high numbers.

It's what happens in spring time. Lots of young about that know no better and lots of hungry older ones out trying to find food. Unfortunately I ran over a hedgehog last week, came out of nowhere and there was nothing I could do. It's the 2nd time this has happened, and I'll never forget the pop it makes. At least it wasn't a slow death.

More likely badgers are being shot by farmers due to the TB concerns and dumped at the roadside to make it look like a road kill, common occurrence in Peak District.

Yep, saw a dead badger yesterday. I glumly muttered a ‘Mashed potatoes!’ as a sign of respect.

I see it a lot also. Maybe more traffic at night as society has changed to a more 24hr one is partly to blame?

It's a popular time for badgers to disperse. I guess "teenagers" getting booted out to make way for the new cubs.

Because its Spring. Animals are having young, they are coming out from their Winter hibernations (literally and figuratively) to enjoy the increase in food sources. Road kill is a sad inevitability, whilst I don't like seeing it the cost of fencing off roads and then maintaining those fences would be a colossal waste.
