You don't need to run back and forth. Have an "anchor object" in the picture with you, like a table. Set up the phone to have the table on one side of the frame, then position yourself a particular distance from the table or sitting at the table.

I positioned the camera to include a portion of the ladder, which guaranteed that I would be in frame the whole time. Of course I had the added complications of the trigger cam footage, but that's something you don't need to deal with.
