E bike community is weird
Ancient-Visit-4239@reddit
What is more weird is the fact that most people put anything with a motor in category of being an e-Bikeš«£
Im_Old_Legs@reddit
What?
Clerkle@reddit
But never as weird as the Rukus ding dongs. Ebikes can never be a Rukus, thank God.
Malforus@reddit
All I ask is you follow the rules of the modality you are behaving as. Want to be a mini-moto? Do not use the bikelane and go bombing by people faster than bike lane speed.
Richards are earned by behaving like proto-squids.
Tight-War-8013@reddit
Bikelane near me has cyclists passing cars at 45mph⦠unassisted
Ancient-Visit-4239@reddit
Downhill maybe.
Tight-War-8013@reddit
Yes, down a big hill. They go at unsafe speeds with a quarter inch tire. And theres a light at the bottom of the hill too
Nibb31@reddit
I don't believe you, but you do you.
Tight-War-8013@reddit
Its a big hill, and spandex cyclists with quarter inch tires and rigs that probably cost as much as a car
Nibb31@reddit
Does it happen? Sure.
Is it a significant occurence? Nope.
Astra_Mainn@reddit
Maybe off a cliff, not in the flat
Local-Team5903@reddit (OP)
Too result in Google for middrive ebike.
JohnWittieless@reddit
You said you have a S8. Spec sheet says "2000W Dual Motor AWD 48V 25Ah Ebike 32MPH Electric Bicycles 7-Speed".
I own a Class 3 Bosch powered bike. That is in now where the 250W (continuous) 600W max of the most power intensive mid drive of a Bosch (Cargo or Speed lines). Also either a state has a 20 MPH class one only law or 3 class system still restricts total bike power output at 750 Watts
Show me a single state (or country) that has a classification of an electric bicycle that
A) Ebikes with a motor governor at 32 MPH
B) allows total watt output to exceed 750 Watts.
Local-Team5903@reddit (OP)
How many vehicles on the road can pass 100mph? How many states allow you to drive 100mph? I can follow the law, just like anyone else can.
JohnWittieless@reddit
How many of those vehicles are legally defined as a bicycle or moped?
I don't see the law required plates.
Now if you could kindly answer the question. What state in the US would even classify you 32 MPH as what Amyet advertised it as an electric bicycle?
Hell most states restrict mopeds to 30 MPH on flat ground meaning in many states that's a motorcycle.
Local-Team5903@reddit (OP)
How many vehicles are defined as a bicycle or moped? It was an analogy. There are cars that are clearly not designed to be on the same streets as a minivan filled with a family, yet there they are. As long as they follow the law. This is the same thing. Even though my bike is different from yours and may be faster, why is it such a problem if I'm following the law like you are?
JohnWittieless@reddit
Why should I take your complaint seriously if you can't even answer the bloody question.
That said. Difference is those cars are not masquerading them self's as a bicycle (mostly and only when the drivers self identify).
If you came on here and completely owned up to owning a moped I would not be on your ass but you seemed to be stuck in the mentality of "It has pedals so it's not a moped" mentality even though pedals have been on motorcycles since their inception (called "kick start" motorcycles, Are those bicycles?)
Local-Team5903@reddit (OP)
And so your statements have nothing to do with the law or safety and just to do with the fact that "you're not really one of us" mentality? OK. No problem.
JohnWittieless@reddit
Where was I detesting that a moped, or motorcycle of the electric variety was not a bike? No I buck the trend of most people as bike is anything human. cumbustion, or electric 2 wheels.
It's in the sub bio as well
All things electric bikes from motorcycles to pedal assist
What I am going at you is your ebikes cosplaying as if it is a electric bicycle when it is at best a falsely represented electric moped.
Ebike yes but not a ebicycle
Local-Team5903@reddit (OP)
May I remind you the name is this sub? Yes. It's an ebike. No one said ebicycle.
JohnWittieless@reddit
May I remind you this all started when you tried to justify your bike in the context of bike lanes? Yes you did not say ebicycle but your bike advertises it's self as a ebicycle and you tried using a classification that legally requires the bike to cut the motor 4 miles slower then your ebikes spec.
Local-Team5903@reddit (OP)
I only stated the obvious. I have pedals, I use pedal assist and pedal my, whatever you'd like to call it. I ride on my designated bike lane at an appropriate, safe and respectful speed. Always considering others. As one should be in all aspects of life. I don't have a registered vehicle that can use a road. My, whatever you'd like to calll it, is not fast enough to flow with cars in traffic even if I could register it. So why shouldn't I use the bike lanes?
JohnWittieless@reddit
Show me a state where a ebike of that spec would find that appropriate? Otherwise you don't fallow the law like you lied about.
Local-Team5903@reddit (OP)
I hate to inform you, but these type of ebikes are a reality. They are selling more and more and growing in popularity. And for now, until they create new legislation and new infrastructure for these type of ebikes, all we can do is try to coexist.
JohnWittieless@reddit
Then your final destination should be Moped adopted not bicycle adopted and you should act as so on a bike like that. Mopeds have existed in the US with little issue.
In my state a Moped cannot exceed
If your bike can't even legally qualify as a moped in many states due to it exceeding maximums why should your ebike be facilitated with infrastructure? The regulation already exists, get a class 3 specked ebike.
jmercer28@reddit
This is pedal assistance. Your bike has a throttle. Does your moped even have pedals? It's an electric moped, not an electric bicycle. Should not be ridden on bike-only infrastructure.
Local-Team5903@reddit (OP)
Yes. I have pedals and pedal assist, both which I used everytime I ride.
jmercer28@reddit
Care to address the point? Your bike has a throttle and goes 30-mph. My pedal assist maxes out at 20 mph. Do you ride this thing in the bike lane? If so, it's people like you that will ruin this for the rest of us.
Local-Team5903@reddit (OP)
Your ebike may top out at 20mph. Doesn't mean other ebikes don't go as fast as mine. And I have a point, maybe you would like to address. Where do I ride? I have pedals, in which I use. I have no registration and legally shouldn't be on the road. I'm not fast enough to keep up with street traffic. Where do I ride? I'm all about being considerate to all riders. I don't "blow by" anyone, ever. So the problem with faster ebikes is less about the type of bike and more so about the type of rider.
iwannabeaprettygirl@reddit
No one cares about how fast your Chinese electric motorcycle goes. Read the laws of the local area. If you're doing 30 with a motor and throttle you're illegal. You're going to hurt someone. I live in the most bike friendly area in the states and if you went 30 on our bike infrastructure with that behemoth, they'd go ballistic with fines and legal action. My legal ebike that maxes at 20 is WAY TOO FAST for 90% of off-road trails because other people exist. Kids, teens, joggers, blind corners, headphones, older people who may have mobility issues. Even in downtown on protected bike lanes, ripping through a block at 20mph would be crazy behavior outside of early commute hour.
Local-Team5903@reddit (OP)
Lol. This is hilarious. I have not once said they ride at 30mph on the bike lane. I have tried to make the point that many many seat post ebikes top out at 30mph yet emoped bikes are the only ones that get all the hate for supposedly riding at 30mph. So no one who has a mid drive ebike goes 30mph? The guys with the "American made" (they're all made in China genius) ebikes all ride at 20mph?
jmercer28@reddit
My bike is from Europe and the pedal assist maxes out at 20 mph. It weighs a little over 40 lbs. When I bike in my town, I can operate more like a pedestrian. I can negotiate corners going very slow, I can come to a complete stop within 10 feet (my hydraulic breaks are sweet), and I can keep my balance for a few seconds while at a complete stop.
You operate this "ebike" like a moped. It's not my fault that you picked a stupid, dangerous machine that isn't fast enough for the road or safe in the bike lane. In the cities in the world with robust bike infrastructure and policy, you would be required to get a moped license to drive this thing and you would certainly not be allowed to use it in protected bike lanes.
iwannabeaprettygirl@reddit
They are all China genius. My ebike weighs less than half of yours, is completely legal, and folds up small enough to fit on your enormous empty forehead.
Have you ever heard of something illegal in your life? Do you understand that you're an adult, and your poor actions and our loose regulation can cause you serious consequences? Let alone the loose 6 year old you're going to smoke going over your first hill on this motorcycle you're not fit enough to get to 20 mph from a standstill on your own?
beaucoup_dinky_dau@reddit
Speed limits are the best way to do it, I have a radbike fat tire and it goes human powered only after 19mph, anything else devolves into an arguments nitpicking this or that feature, cops already have radar guns and can issue speeding tickets. I get there is a very blurry line and dealing with humans is messy but making a bunch of draconian laws is only going to limit the growth of bike culture and do nothing to prevent the surron jackass people from being jackasses.
jmercer28@reddit
I agree that speed limits are a good way to do it. Amsterdam has good laws: "In Amsterdam, e-bikes are treated like regular bicycles if they have a maximum assisted speed of 25 km/h (15.5 mph) and are considered "speed pedelecs" if they reach 45 km/h (27.9 mph). E-bike riders must be at least 16 years old and need a moped license for e-bikes with speeds above 25 km/h."
I like this approach. Large groups of bike riders act more like pedestrians than they do vehicles. We're not encouraging people (people who usually drive their cars) to ride bikes (e- or not) to work and to the store by zipping around them in the bike lanes at 20+ mph--however safe we think we're being. I envision a world where we have large-scale bicycle infrastructure--not cities full of electric mopeds and motorcycles.
NiobiumThorn@reddit
We need to stop bending over backwards to suck the dicks of car drivers. Fighting other bikers like this is stupid
jmercer28@reddit
Can you explain how this has anything to do with car drivers?
thwonkk@reddit
Most ebikes that go 30mph only go that if they pedal. Throttle is often limited to 20mph. If the bike lane is where they're safest and they don't pass other cyclists unsafely then what exactly is the issue?
Imagine it's a 45mph road with a bike lane. Where should this person be? In the road going 15 under or in the bike lane?
MowieWauii@reddit
I have a moped style and as soon as my city gets a bike lane, best believe I'll be in it. As the sidewalk would be illegal.
beaucoup_dinky_dau@reddit
conversely more people using it, more bike infrastructure, speed limits should always be a thing for safety on any wheels.
jmercer28@reddit
Also... most municipalities have rules about how fast you can go in the bike lane. It's 20 mph in my city
Local-Team5903@reddit (OP)
Plenty of ebikes with seat posts go 30mph. Just as fast as what I can do. So other than the asthetic, what makes me different?
jameytaco@reddit
Why do you need this validation? Are you a loser?
Malforus@reddit
...if some spandex jockey buzzes me doing 30 in the bikelane they will get an earful at the next stoplight too.
Focusing on the wrong message there.
SuttBlutt@reddit
They're called MAMILs and they don't stop at stoplights.
doc1442@reddit
And they should also be regulated as mopeds and stop cosplaying as a bicycle.

sanjosethrower@reddit
How many government meetings have yoi been to in the last year advocating for bikes or any similar topic?
jamalzia@reddit
Huffing your own farts there buddy lol. Good for you you advocate for the hobby. Now call out shit attitudes on here when you see it.
sanjosethrower@reddit
Itās an immature attitude to mock someone politely suggesting you be civic minded.
jamalzia@reddit
It's a hollier than thou attitude to imply someone needs to be an activist or something in order to criticize a group of people lol. Way to prove my point. What does you being CiViC MinDeD have anything to do with me calling out this sub for having a stick up their ass and crying over every single post of a bike that goes over 20mph? Learn when to actually be an activist and when to be a normal human being. That would be maturity.
sanjosethrower@reddit
Mischaracterizing the arguments that happen in this sub is not a very mature or polite attitude.
jamalzia@reddit
Yes it is, good self awareness. A guy posting a picture of his cool bike and getting downvoted for no reason because you losers are so negative minded.
And what arguments did I refer to? Or did I refer to a collective ATTITUDE? Yeah good job strawmanning me, get that stick out your ass and try your best not to sniff it afterwards.

feoranis26@reddit
what the actual fuck
celeste_ferret@reddit
Well, would you look at that...there's actually a bracket to mount a license plate on the back. Good, more of these electric vehicles that don't meet the classification system for ebikes need to be clear that they must be licensed to ride in most public places.
No_Marsupial1383@reddit
It's a tail light mount gatekeeper.
celeste_ferret@reddit
No, the tail light and turn signals are mounted up there under the bench seat. This e-vehicle is not legally operable on any roads in the US without being registered and insured, which is why I'm so excited to see that they provided a place for its license plate on the back.
No_Marsupial1383@reddit
Regardless of where he mounted the lights that's a light mount and with knowing nothing about the specs of this bike how are you so confident it's illegal on any roads in the US?
celeste_ferret@reddit
He said it was an Amyet S8. That vehicle does not fit into the legal electric bicycle classification system so it's illegal to use on bicycle infrastructure and needs to be appropriately licensed to be legally used on public roads.
I think it's great that it has a license plate mount for complying with the laws.
Lar1ssaa@reddit
I get so much hate⦠for my bike that is 250watts and caps out at 25 kph⦠I have a regular road looking ebike and I still prefer this one over that. The riding position is uncomfortable and I donāt care about pedal efficiency Iām just cruising. It has a throttle but it eats the 10 ah battery and I very rarely use it. Only when I need help starting a hill or take off quickly. People on diy ebike kits usually pass me at 35 kph though.
Local-Team5903@reddit (OP)
The hate is unwarranted. It really just seems like they all have that "you're not one us" mentality. I don't care what they think, you shouldn't either. Nice bike by the way.
Lar1ssaa@reddit
Thanks! Anything pedaled/ridden responsibly should be included. I think focusing on riders and not particular bikes could easily fix this problem. If I could only ride my regular road e road bike I would ride much less as itās just too uncomfortable compared to this one.
Local-Team5903@reddit (OP)
Absolutely. I chose the style of bike that I have because of comfort also. There are days I ride for literally 80 miles. It would be literally painful with a regular bicycle seat. I wish this sub was inclusive too all and realize that just like someone with a McLaren can choose to drive the speed limit all day long, so can someone with a faster ebike follow bike rules and etiquette.
Lar1ssaa@reddit
I get that typical bike saddles are so uncomfortable. I think these kind of bikes are like riding SUVs. The weight makes you feel safer because itās more stable and the big tires run over everything without too much discomfort on your knees and back.
The thing that gets me though is that there are a lot of people here who post their home kit have never ever seen one thatās legal. Theyāre always at least 1000 W or more and I have not once seen anyone complain about that part.
Local-Team5903@reddit (OP)

sporeson@reddit
Can you please explain to me the functional difference between this moped style bike in the bike lane vs your average ebike, im confused on the difference
jmercer28@reddit
It has a 2000W motor. Mine (and most e-bikes in my āstyleā have 500W or 750W motors and no throttle. This bike weighs 100+ pounds, mine weighs less than 50. Functionally, my bike operates like a road bicycle. I can balance at a stop and I am always in complete control of acceleration. I have test ridden a bike with a throttle and a 1000W motorāitās much more difficult to balance and control your speed. Especially at low speeds, my bike operates like a bicycle, this bike operates like a moped.
sporeson@reddit
Thank you for the explanation, I didn't realize it had a 2000w motor, I have a 750w and it's even questionable to be in some bike lanes

Fast-Meringue4803@reddit
I have an Amyet g60, added a second battery for 45ah and I get a top speed of about 40mph after tuning the settings. Haters gonna hate. People need to get off their high horses and understand that as long you ride respectfully and arenāt acting like a fool, you should be able to ride wherever your local laws allow. Iām not blasting 40mph down a sidewalk or park path with others around.. some people might. 3 batteries is crazy but good on you for making that bike fit your needs rather than these jerks just doing wheelies and speeding around in 25 mph zones. Regular cyclists go 60mph+ and act like they are the size of a car. Pedestrians donāt want anything with a motor near them when theyāre trying to take a peaceful walk, so e bike riders, cyclists and pedestrians are at fault for being disrespectful of others around them, just facts.

You also need to change urban planning laws. American way, with no content in residential areas is a facking disaster.
In my backwater hillbilly country in EU, I have 3 small supermarkets, a dentist, a doctor, soccer club, bowlong alley, furniture store, multiple tyre and car mechanics, drug store, a small bank and a few ATMs, 5 clubs/coffee shops, school, kindergarten, fishing spot, multiple playgrounds, multiple bakeries, park, bike routes and some other content within WALKING distance (\~2-3km). This all servicing only \~2500 people.
Meanwhile when I was in Florida, you have to get into a car for AYNTHING. Wanna buy bread? Toilet paper? Diapers? Always have to get into a car.

spicyfoxy666@reddit
Why are bike riders so smug and intense about e-bikers?!? Iām realizing this is such a thing. Iām not even a biker and Iām noticing such a holier than thou attitude about this subject. I feel like itās all better than driving cars? (I mainly drive my car lol)
Tight-War-8013@reddit
Cyclist attitude holdover. Cyclists say they are cheaters, they wanna say ānuh uh its those guysā
Sheshirdzhija@reddit
The look and style is irrelevant. Speed is what matters, because it's all about safety.
Reasonable speed in lanes with regular bicycles, road for anything faster.
------------
I myself also wish EU chills a bit down, 25km/h is quite low and I regularly go faster than that on my 20" folding manual Dahon. IMHO 35 km/h is quite reasonable. But we have what we have.
IceNein@reddit
I donāt think anyone is criticizing them other than to say that theyāre mopeds, not e-bikes. Of course they have their place. People just get upset because people are trying to pretend their mopeds Are e-bikes, and this is making them create laws to punish the actual e-bike users.
jwpi31415@reddit
Eh, no one ought to be giving you a hard time when riding any e-bike (moped style included...it has pedals) in a manner compatible with the environment.
Just keep in mind that no one really expects a Class III compliant 28MPH in a bike lane along a residential street. You want to take this up to 32 MPH on a lonely stretch of road between towns, if its truly lonely there's no one to judge.
Local-Team5903@reddit (OP)
Biggest mod was batteries. I have 3 total. 65ah. I have a commute of 80 total miles on some days. Which I why I mentioned that I do pedal with pedal assist, cause if I only used throttle, it would be difficult to do make full 80 miles on a single charge. Front and rear cargo racks. Saddle bags. Extra headlight and taillight and turn signals.
