PPS 43 build advice

I picked up a PPS 43 parts kit recently. (From Centerfire Systems. Comes with 3 mags, mag pouch and a sling for $100.) I've ordered a receiver blank from Stenparts. I plan to buy the drop in semi auto trigger assembly. My only issue thus far is finding the barrel shroud section. (Anyone know where to find one?) I know a good gunsmith near me that should be able to convert the bolt to fire from the closed position. I also plan to convert it 9 mm and SBR it.
Anyone here built one? Any pitfalls I need to look out for?

You can make a die for the barrel shroud to press your own from some black pipe and angle iron. You'll need a press and welder anyways to form and build the flat.

I've come across mentions and pictures of the barrel shroud templates, but I haven't come across any for sale. I'd be willing to try that if I could find one.

I bent my own shroud for a centerfire kit so I can give you dimensions for the die. Keep in mind they're ROUGH and you'll likely have some heating and beating (username checks out) to get it looking proper. Going from a round to square profile while shrinking in diameter is super fun.

6 years late to the party, but would you be able to provide dimensions for the shroud die?

I'm in the process of building one. Its been slow going.
922r is a trick. Not sure how you plan to deal with it, but on an SBR, I wouldn't chance it personally.
Did your kit not include the barrel shroud? Most of them include the entire front end and are missing the rear portion of the receiver.
Its a very welding intensive project. Fitting the sight on, welding the receiver straight, welding a denial bar in place. I machined my own bolt and it was a bit of a PITA.
I ended up buying one of the IO pistols and plan to SBR that eventually. I'll hopefully get around to finishing my home build at some point.

Did you ever finish?
paint3all@reddit
No... I'm close but just hadn't made time to finish.

How about now
paint3all@reddit
Lol no. I have no idea when I'll get around to it at this point

Sad!!!
paint3all@reddit
Yeah... just other stuff taking priority unfortunately. Got a bunch of projects in the que. One day. I'll definitely post once the time comes.

paint3all@reddit
Haha nope. Still sitting

Now ?
paint3all@reddit
Lol nope. To make matters worse, my welder broke and I need to weld and re drill some holes on it.

And now? Is the welder back up and running?
paint3all@reddit
Negative! Welder still down. Don't buy a Lincoln Square Wave if you want a serviceable unit... The repair entails replacing all the internals. A cheap Chinese inverter unit would be about half the price of the repair.

Not yet. Was actually toying with it soon. Fixed the welder, needed a board in the power supply replaced so not prohibitively expensive.
