"Son, back in my day..."

We used to have to physically break these giant frosted logs in half or thirds just to nearly choke on them, and then have a giant pile of soggy loose wheat and sugar milk waiting for us at the end of the bowl. They didn't come in cute little perfectly frosted squares. You kids don't know how good you got it!

$1.69? What a deal! A small box of frosted mini wheats is about $4.50 where I live.

and this is a full lb too!

I happen to have a box of the mini wheats in my cabinet. I’m surprised that it’s still 16 oz!

I liked this packaging from Kellogs. It felt like on some types it stuck around for decades.

this was considered a treat in my house and yes i developed an eating disorder before i could drive

I loved these big ones. This and Grape Nuts were my go to.

You got the FROSTED kind?! Spoiled rotten. We just had the haystack bricks and we were lucky if dad let us put sugar on them.
Fun fact: As an adult, I love those haystack bricks with some milk and shoved in the microwave for a bit. Best winter breakfast ever.

There are actually shredded wheat biscuits larger than this and aren't frosted for the hardcore oldtimers. Mini was revolutionary, frosted was a treat, bite-sized frosted shredded wheat is for the softies. Now finish it off with a glass of prune juice the hardcore.

i loved shredded wheat! i’d pour hot water over them then about half a cup of sugar and there were delicious! 🙄
Zeqhanis@reddit
I thought it was fun breaking them up in the bowl.

I love the big ones! They actually come in sleeves of three (you get 9 "biscuits" per box) and basically you eat one at a time. I add some kind of sweetener and then let them soak for a few minutes before eating. They are awesome.

Prune juice 🤮
Our Boy Scout troop bounced around to a lot of different summer camps instead of just going to our district's camp every year. I remember one in the Adirondacks that basically forced everyone to drink a cup of prune juice every morning to try to counteract the kids who tried to go the whole week without pooping because they were grossed out by the outhouses

Those things were door stops. My grandma had them.
jdsmith575@reddit
They were like sponges you were expected to eat.

Back then fat was demonized and carbs were promoted to high heaven...
If only our parents back then n the 80s knew what they were in for quarter century or half century later of un-ending sweetness.
thaKingRocka@reddit
I bought that by accident once, and I think my brain almost broke when I opened the box.
Zeqhanis@reddit
What? That was a meal and an activity, way better.

Back in my day, you could collect the tops of the cereal boxes, and send them out for a toy prize that would take 6-8 weeks to arrive.

Don't forget to drink your ovaltine.

back in my day, michael jordan was on a cereal box.

Yeah man, we had plain ol’ Frosted Wheats. None of this mini shit.
adelwolf@reddit
I LOVED this shit as a kid. Mini wheats or the plain bricks of Shredded Wheat in their paper wrappers... Damnit, now I need to go to the store.
SteakHot8704@reddit
A whole brick of wheat sprinkled with sugar thuds into the bowl. Good times.
NegativeBeginning400@reddit
Welp, I now want this, the taste/feel of these dissolving in your mouth with milk is not re-created anywhere else in my food repertoire. Timing was crucial as too early and it was way to hard, a moment too late and it was just mush. Time to pick some up on the way home.
OneWhoWonders@reddit
I love the fact that the thing you can submit two UPC codes for are seeds :)
Fair_Blood3176@reddit
There were some with brown sugar in the middle
Significant_Skill205@reddit
It felt like you had to wait 30 minutes before they were even soft enough before you could break them into thirds with your spoon...and then one minute later, they were too soggy. Life is so easy for kids these days

Admiral Crunch?!??
