Watching the original Al (and only) Footloose with my family….

My daughter looks at me halfway through and says “So does he end up with farm boy at the end?” I continued watching and, she was right. They were a way better couple. I’m glad I’ve raised a kid that didn’t give a fuck. And if this makes you uncomfortable, watch the movie again. I’m pretty sure Kevin Bacon left with the farm boy that night.

Lawd, I hope they don't try to remake this one!

Pretty weird. Are kids today that confused that when seeing a same sex friendship, their first thought is that something sexual is going on? We weren’t like that when this movie came out. We saw Ren ending up with the hot preachers daughter. Why? Because that’s obviously what the movie intended, and we didn’t have parents, social media, and the educational system bombarding us with absurd agendas that we are clearly seeing having a negative effect in many aspects of society. It’s not progress and it’s nothing to be proud about.

Wow. I feel so very opposite of you.

You have every right to, but I’m not wrong.

In fact you are very wrong. As you point out, Footloose had no sexuality agenda and yet OP's daughter was able to watch a movie with people in it and determine there were two people who were better suited to each other. That the hero should have wound up with the farm boy and not the hot girl because they related to each other on a level that went beyond what was going on between their legs.
I contend this is progress. I think people will be much happier when they allow themselves to fall for the farm boy (in whatever form he/she/they takes) because that's who they like instead of the hot girl (her/him/they) because that's who society tells them they should like.

It's not society. It's biology. And if you are programmed to like girls you are programmed that way and you sure as heck would not be happier choosing a guy. You may be different from that and go the other way or even able to just chose whoever.

I agree with you, it is biology. People who like boys are going to like boys. And people who like girls are going to like girls. But you are incorrect about society's piece in how people have paired up for thousands of years. Because society has absolutely said, you are X so you must be with Y, never mind your biology/how you're programmed and what you're attracted to. What I'm saying (and I think what OP was saying) is that it was refreshing that their daughter could look beyond what society is telling us and seeing people, not body parts. Not just X must go with Y.

Really? It was way obvious he was into her and vice-versa in the end.

Not surprised.
