The Geo Metro was the USDM version of the Suzuki Cultus/Swift, which in Australia was also badged as a Holden Barina at the time.

The current Swift Sport is the car I would buy if I lived anywhere besides America. I love my Mazda 3 but it's closer to a sporty commuter car vs a little go-kart.

I bought a brand new Suzuki Swift in '93. Drove it for 7 years and put over 200,000 miles on it. Great car. Never gave me any problems and I drove the shit out of it.

15 year rule, so anything after 2010 should be okay. I think the import costs might be high.

Suzuki is complicated. We had the Swift+ in Canada for a while. Mine is made by Daewoo (also partly GM) in Korea and sold under a dozen different badges. We used to have Suzuki dealerships in Canada. Looking up parts is weird and there isn't a lot of clear documentation because of the many variations. But luckily, these are simple cars, run well, and are cheap to fix. Delightful to drive.

A former GM/Suzuki plant is fairly close to where I live. Some badges/variations of this car were made there. I don't know for a fact, but I suspect the problematic CAFE standards are partly to blame for killing these cars.
