My brother found this altimeter that was thrown away.

We searched and didn't find much information on the internet, so anything you have to contribute would be helpful.

That's cool! Check if it still works.

I can't; my brother lives over 200 km away. But I'll ask him if he could get it working.

Do you live about 3 meters above sea level? That's what it's reading right now.

It's more of a mapping tool than aviation tool. Equipment like this would have been used for long range height transfer in remote areas before satellite navigation became the preferred method. The one in your picture seems to be in really good condition. I'm a bit jealous tb and I hope it still works.

Some background information regarding the use of similar equipment in remote Australia back in the old days.

Thanks for the clarification! I looked it up online and it said it was used in airplanes, so I thought it would be appropriate to look it up here.
From what my brother told me, it was from a warehouse that was being emptied and things were being thrown away. That would explain why it was so well maintained.

I mean nothing stops you from using it in an unpressurised aircraft but it's way more accurate than what's required for VFR flying. You wouldn't be able to use it as primary altimeter because it lacks the necessary certification.

It had a paper inside
