Do you guys mind if the occasional Core GenX'r hangs out here?

73 X'r here. While I still identify as Core GenX, I consider that what shaped me the most is the pop culture that happened in the 90's. I'm as much Foo Fighters as I am Huey Lewis.
So I hope you guys are cool with me tagging along for the ride. Consider me like your slightly older brother who liked the cool shit their younger siblings brought home š
Flashy-Share8186@reddit
I think us older Xennials stand in the back and complain that it hurts too much when we mosh. ās cool. You can join us over here.
SgtBearPatrol@reddit
ā77, can confirm. I also make sure that my son wears earplugs.
snowboard7621@reddit
I saw Bad Religion last year, and it was the nicest mosh pit ever. Hyper respectful of the aging lol. No one pushed too hard, and one guy on the side kept returning lost shoes.
Flashy-Share8186@reddit
I could believe that for them and their audience!
fizzmore@reddit
Right to jail.

Whatever, as long as youāre cool.

This is the only response
judgehood@reddit
Xennials and Gen X trying to out āwhateverā each other now.
OutcomeLegitimate618@reddit
My depression era grandmother died a few months ago and I'm pretty sure her last word was whatever. She raised 5 genX kids and adapted I guess š
judgehood@reddit
Sorry for your loss! That was a long life, and 5 kids is a great legacy. RIP.
And I will say, in the tone of the thread, that āwhateverā, as last words, is pure exemplification that she will is ready to absolutely rest in peace.
I hope I didnāt offend my friend.
OutcomeLegitimate618@reddit
Trust me, she's peaceful. You absolutely didn't offend. And nothing in life offended her as long as I knew her. She was an artist and sorta fit the stereotype. She loved an awesome life. She always said "life is a game" and she won.
knownerror@reddit
We are like half Gen X after all.Ā
PhotographsWithFilm@reddit (OP)
I'll respond with the other GenX accepted response
Yeah

Felixir-the-Cat@reddit
I was born the same year - I hang out here because the Gen X sub went too boomer for my tastes.
DirtRight9309@reddit
I always hung out with Gen Xāers anyway (better music)
gonzagylot00@reddit
Cāmon over and watch some X-Files and Dragon Ball Z with us, older bro.
JeffTheAndroid@reddit
I swear to God you people have to take EVERYTHING FROM US
CAN'T YOU JUST HAVE YOUR OWN SUB?!?
I'm kidding, go for it.
blackhawksq@reddit
hell no. GTFO you damned boomer /s
Good thing about being a xennial we can identify with both Gen X and millennials. As far as I'm concerned all is welcomed.
My wife is '74.... BTW DON'T ask your wife "How is it turning half a century?" also the next day don't ask her "How does it feel to now be close to 100 then 0?" It doesn't turn out well.

If someone tries to gatekeep you, they're not worth your time or attention anyway.
After all, these subs are about shared cultural memories and discussion, not organizing people into distinct little jars.
PhotographsWithFilm@reddit (OP)
I gotta admit that there is a bit of gate keeping going on at the "other" genX sub. TBH, this is part of the reason I've popped into here
OutcomeLegitimate618@reddit
The Millennial sub sucks too. I feel like I have nothing in common with the whole generation. So whatever, it's cool here. Welcome to generational Shangri la.

I'm a 76 genXer. I grabbed onto computers and technology as soon as they were available.
I've found us genXers lean towards either boomer views or millennial views. I see the world more from a millennial or GenZ lens whereas my little brother ('78) sounds like a boomers Facebook group.
I hang out here at times as a result.
MamaSchamScham@reddit
Totally this. Iām a late 77 X-er, but my only sibling was ā86, and we were very close growing up to the point that I felt like a bonus mom. I lean way more millennial than X-er because of shared interests I had with him. You are totally right thoughā¦I know other people I graduated with that lean way more boomer.

It all rolls downhill anyway, since you're not a Millenial or Gen Z, I'll allow it.
chrisdecaf@reddit
Half of xennials are technically millennials.
Ornery-Ad-9886@reddit
This seems like a good thread to ask this question, Iām born in 89, do I qualify as xennial? I resonate with so much of whatās shared on this subredditā¦
chrisdecaf@reddit
You don't, but it's mostly irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. I'm on the millennial end of the xennial range and there's nothing wrong with being a millennial. You don't have to be defined by the stereotypes just because someone else says so.
Few_Improvement_6357@reddit
We don't really care about age. It's more of an attitude. It's like irl nobody understands my humor or the things I like. But here everyone loves the š¶ Moving to the country, gonna eat me a lot of peaches š¶ song, and "Wheel of morality turn, turn turn. Show us the lesson that we should learn." We were shaped by the same messages, and that connects us in a cool way. So if you are irreverent about life but traumatized by Artax, we feel you. You also have to acknowledge that The Muppet Christmas Carol is the best version of The Christmas Carol. No substitutions are accepted.
Ornery-Ad-9886@reddit
Michael Cain should have won an Oscar for The Muppet Christmas Carol and that is a hill I will die on!!!

My older brother was born in ā73. And me inā79. So Iām like to youngest of the Xers⦠Got my brotherās hand-me-down toys and clothes. Can remember a lot of early 80ās stuff that I was way too young for because I had 6 year older brother. But wasnāt in High-school until ā94.
Iām firmly Xennial and this sub is awesome and super welcoming. This is like the one generational sub that doesnāt really judge. Come hangout with us and talk Saturday Morning Cartoons and Aging Parents š¤£.
DaoFerret@reddit
I think the defining characteristic of most of us (whether we directly fall in the age range or not) is a combination of cynicism and positivity.
Putrid-Art-1559@reddit
As long as youāre cool, youāre welcomed here! I am a firm Xennial and also love Huey Lewis.
jekyl42@reddit
Right on. I'm not even a Huey Lewis fan and people seem to mostly tolerate me.

Listen, if you know what Cyndi Lauper was really singing about in She Bop, you are of the proper age.
PhotographsWithFilm@reddit (OP)
LOL! I think Poison did the masculine version....
Roscoe_P_Trolltrain@reddit
I'm not familiar with the song but is it called He Jack?
judgehood@reddit
Is that what that is? Iāve been wondering my whole life what an āUnskinny Bopā is.
The lyrics donāt match up with how Cyndi puts it though.
PhotographsWithFilm@reddit (OP)
I hope we are talking about the same thing (without being crude, I always thought this was talking about masturbation)
judgehood@reddit
Hah I donāt know. If you google it, there is no immediate answer. The guitarist, CC Deville, even says so.
I was wondering if you knew something I didnāt.
The She Bop is pretty clear and I could never figure out if they were related.
glamb70@reddit
Bad vibes can beat it! But come on down.
KittenaSmittena@reddit
Iām ā83 and my brother is ā75. I am extra Xennial because of him and he at least doesnāt scoff at the technically millennial stuff of his little sis especially since Iām heavy on the X side growing up friends with his friends. We have been to Huey Lewis concerts together and marveled over how organized and kind everyone was leaving the venue. The knee replacement crowd is a sweet ass crowd. No fear or being trampled like at concerts we used to go to. š We also saw his Broadway shows which were adorable and once again we enjoyed being the youngest people there.
Welcome, I love this sub and all the Xennial responses (so chill and live/let live with less political correctness and yet way more love for mental health) make me happy.
VectorJones@reddit
You probably played with the same toys and watched the same kids shows as many folks here did. You'll probably recognize a lot of the stuff people post here.
grilledstuffed@reddit
Whatās up with turning 50? Same old shit as 40?
Blazenkks@reddit
So uh, when I was 29 and dreading the big 3-0. For almost that whole year of age ever came up my response was, āIām like 30ā. To get myself used to the idea š¤£.

Oh no, Chet!
chrisdecaf@reddit
Discounting some (thankfully) long-gone struggles over what a "true Xennial" is, we're extremely non-confrontational with intergenerational interaction.
