Today is one of those “I’m glad to be on the ground wishing I was in the air” kind of days.

I got 10C into ORD today even thought they where running PRMs and we can’t PRM

Just got my IR today!! (actively updated flair between typing that sentence and this one :D)

My son has TRPS. A very rare type of of skeletal dysplasia and ectodermal dysplasia that affects hair, joint and vine development. He is 10 years old the size of a 7 year old and wants a ppl and to become a non commercial pilot. He LOVES planes and has no medical issues that would bar a medical, and I did go through the AME book as well.
He will have the opportunity to get a free ppl through a two year high school program.
I am already so proud of him. I can’t wait to call him pilot one day and even the first person with TRPS with a ppl. There are only 206 people with type 1 in the world and only one person in the world that is known to have our exact genetic mutation.
We live right by Republic Airport and plane spot there all the time. If you ever see a little blonde kid poking his head out of a metallic blue Honda CRV, that’s him.

To the new guys, enjoy the journey!

After 4-5 months battling a medical fiasco, I got a clean First Class issued this month. Had to battle the FAA with an investigation issue years ago and came out on top, and now fought the good fight for my medical, and succeeded there too. Anyone going through either experience is welcome to reach out, at least for an ear to listen!
Happy to be at work today, even commuting to short call.

I very much enjoy flight instruction. I'm fortunate to do mostly post-Private. I love seeing my clients progress. Just trained my fifth CFI. I've trained a several people for multiple checkrides. I've helped a number of people find jobs.
I really enjoy seeing their success.
The first CFI I trained just started at a regional. He also just made Gold Seal.
I'm not on a path to the airlines - though I did have a CJO. I get to do some Phenom flying for its owners. I fly a Baron for its owner.
I've worked my ass off my whole life and flown for fun along the way. Flying as a new career started when I realized I could afford to retire early. I don't have to work but I really enjoy what I do!
Looking at several days of glider flying at my club's annual camp the end of May and a week soaring in the Alps the end of the summer. Sitting in a hotel in Germany as I write this.
My dad was a Navy pilot. My mom's father flew blimps, was dirigible crew, and PB4Y-2 flight engineer (on a plane that disappeared - that part's not positive, sorry). Grew up around naval aviation. Served on a carrier for four years.
I've had a great life. Working. Flying for fun. It took me 30+ years to get to 1,000 hours and less than three years to hit 2,000 w/o really being overworked.
How's that for positive, u/mitchlurtz?
Oh, both of my kids are married and have good jobs. Student loans all paid off in the first couple years.

I turned down a premium trip to hang out with my fiancée and my cat, and it was a great call.

i never thought i'd be able to fly due to my tourette's but i got my medical clearance the other day. it severely impacts me in most aspects of my life but when i fly i don't tic at all. i'm completely calm and my body feels so relaxed. and i'm so happy i'm able to do it.

I got out of BWI 20 mins early tonight, when company delayed 1.5 hrs for wx.. On my way to get some Sleep and look forward to another show tomorrow.

I got my 1st class after a long battle with the faa. For those in the process, keep pursuing

Picked up nearly new A20's for $400 today. Good way to end the day after a no-go due to wind
Full-Hall-2734@reddit
This guy kinda seems like a pussy...
HailChanka69@reddit
I’ve loved flying, hope I love teaching it (I’ve got an interview for a CFI position at my school next month), I just wish I had the money to go fly for fun from time to time
DragonofLightning@reddit
Longtime lurker. Took a lot longer than many of my peers to get some of these ratings done, and it always drove me crazy. But as of exactly a week ago I am a commercial multi pilot!
Ok-Technician-2905@reddit
I love flying because it’s not a career. I do it for fun, to the extent my budget allows. I just never get tired of staring out the window and seeing the beautiful terrain roll under my plane.
fed1738@reddit
Gives me a chub
MichaelOfShannon@reddit
Yeah Im erect
alaskadesertrat@reddit
My commercial maneuvers are starting to suck less!
Rush_1_1@reddit
I passed 2 hrs solo yesterday woooo
SifuT@reddit
I got to do a flight review for a retired, very experienced, bush pilot today. It was so much fun!
jtyson1991@reddit
I am starting to get holds but need to work on timing and wind correction. Also I am getting my complex next month.
LightPilotLifeguard@reddit
I'm contagious and spread the aviation bug to a classmate!
mtconnol@reddit
My three PPL students are all a joy- earnest, hardworking, and full of the joy of flying. Something as simple as a freshly lubed trim wheel lights them up: “what a great trim wheel!” It lets me re-experience the joy of that first 50 hours over and over.
Flythebigsky@reddit
Work 6 days a week flying marginally capable airplanes in marginal weather for marginal pay on a shit schedule. Hell yeah. I love this job and look forward to it every single day. Any day you’re flying a plane is better than a day at an office.
DisregardLogan@reddit
I’ve been gradually improving with my landings after having a few particularly rough flights and now I’m preparing to solo.
Ok_Truck_5092@reddit
I haven’t flown in 3 weeks due to maintenance issues and my instructor being out of town, but I got to spend more time with my family and study for other classes.
mitchlurtz@reddit (OP)
Oh! And my positive thing is my best friend soloed today!!
Necessary-Art9874@reddit
It's a good survival skill to have in the event of a zombie apocalypse.
manlilipad@reddit
I love hiking and the outdoors, but not crazy enough to summit a mountain. I get to see the same views with not effort. West coast flying really is “peak”
DudeSchlong@reddit
I’ve been cucked for my past 2 spin lessons for CFI, going to go up in a super decathlon next week for it!
TheBuff66@reddit
Currently in ground school for a job that I've been applying to for over a year. Never thought this day would come. I'm still looking at my classmates like "how did I make the cut." I plan on staying here for a while. Stoked beyond words!
vmFrank@reddit
Every time my wife and I fly somewhere new, we take a selfie together in front of the airport FBO sign. I have a whole folder of photos of places we've been.
Kai-ni@reddit
I successfully landed a Sonex (tailwheel) yesterday 8)
SonexBuilder@reddit
Awesome!!! (I am biased!)
Kai-ni@reddit
Ah, I see 😂
SonexBuilder@reddit
A Sonex is easy to land - but challenging to land well! Mine is a taildragger and mastering wheel landings was such an awesome thing!!!
minfremi@reddit
I guess I passed my line check?
anaqvi786@reddit
I collected per diem to sleep in my bed a few times. Was nice
bhalter80@reddit
I had a student who was surprised after a couple of really bad landings that my approach was all about retrospective and improvement and that I didn't give him a harder time about the landings being shit.
I asked if that would help if I did that instead of working on how to make it less shit next time since we all know it was shit and we don't need to harp on that
bhalter80@reddit
I did not get lasered in an airplane today
x4457@reddit
I didn’t completely hate either of my landings today, I’ll call that a win.
No-Foundation-8034@reddit
I haven't received a job offer, I only have 50 checkride failures, should I keep going? Please be positive guys, my wife's boyfriend makes fun of me
