I bust my ass as an OTR dry van driver, staying out 4–6 months at a time and making decent money. ( 85k$ past year) Do you guys think I could land a solid oilfield job with better pay?
I work 70+ hours every week, put 200k miles on my brand new Peterbilt in 18months. Maybe I need more experience and get a little bit lucky to be able to make better. Thank you for the motivation !!!
Also I don’t pay for housing, internet, electricity etc and I have no roommates. It’s all about who you choose to work for. I work for a small company and it’s a lot more laid back in some ways, and there’s a lot more opportunity to learn other skills in trucking. My best advice is just to find a good employer and go to work, and most importantly keep your mouth shut and do your best.
Years ago when I was in Kansas we had a driver in one of these cross the center lane in heavy traffic and hit an Oreillys Auto Parts store semi. Oilfield truck cut straight through the other truck from front to almost the back. Absolutely brutal head-on collision. Lemme see if I can find the pic
It's fun until you go off the main road. Put chains on all the drive axles. Then, get a bulldozer to pull you through all the mud. Same routine to get out.
I’d do it. It’s kind of boom or bust and right now if price of oil starts going down, it’s going to be bust. You can make some good money in the oil fields but some companies play very loose with DOT regulations.

Idk I made 60k in 4 months it isn’t hard. You just have to be willing to work.

Where to get my foot in the field in Texas?
Most_Recording_5985@reddit (OP)
Texas is a fucking hellscape.
I’d rather blow my fucking brains out than go back to that shit hole.

The Midland/Odessa areas usually have positions open .

How much experience did you have before you got in? I’m interested in doing a year, no kids or wife and I got into this to make money.
Most_Recording_5985@reddit (OP)
Oh not much experience, just the normal $5 handjobs behind the Wendy’s dumpster until I met the guy I work for now.
maddpsyintyst@reddit
Yeah, but have you got two turntables and a microphone?

No lies, if I wasn't a dad, I'd be out there with ya, but I cant leave my little dude at home without dad, just cant do it.

Been in the oilfield for 18 yrs now, I love it and don’t want to do anything else, the best thing is I haven’t been an hourly hand for the pat 6yrs.

I was thinking of applying to some sand hauling jobs. Do you recommend? No wife, kids, or home
