How will it sound?

I currently work (and will retire) at a retirement community. I see the bands that come in and play for them. Also, I hear the music they play from their apartments. I often wonder what it would sound like when we get to the retirement home age. Definitely no more show tunes and big band. It’s going to be hair bands Metallica and KISS. Lol BUT I can wait.

Pyromania! We gonna burn this damned place down

Hey, I like show tunes! I also like face-melting guitar riffs. We can have bof'um, no? Any queer GenXer still standing gets to have both. We have gone through too much not to gleefully sing badly to live renditions of our fave Broadway hits whilst complaining of hip pain and the price of stinky cheese :-)

Pop cover groups, covering what was on radio and music videos.

I worked at a nursing home for over ten years and wondered this same thing.
I’m just afraid I’m going to get stuck listening to like Whitney Houston and Madonna.
I want my Bauhaus and The Cure and The Stone Roses.

Dementia got my dad. I have an iPod, thumb drive, discs, and a printed list of MY songs and music ready and waiting.
Told my family I'll understand if you can't visit just set me up with my songs please.
Kaa_The_Snake@reddit
I think each wing should have its dominant genre, but then you can visit your friends if you’re feeling less metal and more emo one day, etc
I know I like a lot of different types of music. Almost anything between 1980 and Y2K.
And all the good movies playing! And video games!

All I’m saying is they better still have goth night.
Ok_Independence5819@reddit (OP)
Of course
Timely-Youth-9074@reddit
Where I live, clubs still have goth night and they still play the same music from the 1980’s.
MyriVerse2@reddit
I'm not even a Metallica fan, but don't you dare call them a "hair band."

Always to 11. Everyone’s going to be deaf anyway - turn that fucker to 12. Peace.

I still like the idea of turning old malls into Gen X retirement homes and letting us rock out at the arcade and hang out at the food court ...
Solid_Foundation612@reddit
I would love that!
fjvgamer@reddit
Costco homes coming soon.
aConcreteRose@reddit
Welcome to Costco. I love you.
AEM1016@reddit
Loud Octopus, I’m in. I’ll have the business plan over by 7:30.
Loud_Octopus@reddit
I mean we all could have the stores turned into condos, we could have the Spencers condo, the merry go around condo etc. Courtyards could be where everyone goes to have jam sessions, and the outside courtyard could be where the smokers and tokers hang out, we could even set up a cruising the mall in our little retirement golf carts.. the possibilities are endless

My room will sound like whatever the soundtrack to GTA 15 will be.

How long do you plan on living? I'm starting to wonder if I'll get to see 7 😂
aConcreteRose@reddit
Til about 120, with all the bionic parts I can get.

I'm glad I'm not the only one planning to be playing GTA all the way into hospice!

Honestly curious what it sounds like now. My dad's getting to where he should probably be coming to one himself so I'm picturing it as all my parents' music, which could be worse?
Surroundedbygoalies@reddit
My dad listens to hard rock bands from the 60’s all the way to present. He’s likely about a decade or less away from the seniors’ home. He’s going to have the best playlist…!
Ok_Independence5819@reddit (OP)
My parents music was so much better than our residents. AND they are the same age. Weird. My parents Bob Seger Beatles Willie Mamas and Papas. Which I love
ChrisRiley_42@reddit
It'll be a lot of receding hair bands ;)
Ok_Independence5819@reddit (OP)
That is some funny shit!!! And accurate. I’m dying.
FallenValkyrja@reddit
Slayer and Megadeath cover bands. We will have the most awesome retirement communities.

My mom and aunty live in one and it's sadly very quiet no music any of the times I've been there

This I know.

My mom lives in a seniors building, and I’ve already heard 70’s punk, and early thrash blaring from a couple of apartments lol
casade7gatos@reddit
Rap, New Wave, metal, punk, grunge. If my husband has the remote, there will always be Beatles happening. I’ll be there playing little pieces of songs, going, “This reminds me of something, but what?” We should make up filthy playlists for pranking.
redbeard914@reddit
Go see the Spazmatics to see what the oldies music we'll get in the nursing homes
Quirky_Commission_56@reddit
I grew up listening to Simon & Garfunkel and musicals and have an eclectic collection of vinyls/CDs. Folk, punk, jazz, ska, industrial, new wave, screamo, heavy metal, gothic rock, alt rock, surf rock, and musicals (modern and classics).
ride-surf-roll@reddit
Same boat as you. Have to often wondered this.
