What's a good gaming GPU around $500

Essentially the title. Started upgrading my PC recently, got the deal from MC with the Ryzen 7 9800x3d, new mb and ddr5 ram, but my GPU, a 1080 Titan founders, is not only getting on the older side, but it's reaching the end of its rope with heating. Was of course looking at say the 4070ti but not sure I can find a good price, or even that I could afford the pricing. 4060s are about the same, but there are versions that range from $500 to $1000 and up. The 9070 seemed like a saving grace but issues again finding it in good pricing.

Many people report getting the 5070 at $550 or so. If u can find that it's a solid deal.
The 9070xt is a banger if u can find it under $700 (good luck) I bought a gpu/mobo combo from newegg which came to about $730 for the card, not the best price but not horrible.
The 5070ti would be the best option for around $750 but most are right around 1k
Used market isn't bad right now but most people want brand new under warranty stuff so you are probably looking at a 7800xt or lower if you need something sub 500

Feel like it would make more sense for you to go with the microcenter 7800x3d bundle for $200 LESS and then spend closer to $700 on gpu. That would be a much better balanced build. If you keep your eyes pealed on amazon, Newegg, Best Buy, Asus website, microcenter, etc I’m certain you can find a 9070xt for $700-800. I don’t think any really sell for $599 anymore but they definitely do for as low as $699.
Admirable_Ad_92@reddit
Isn’t Microcenter running a deal for 7900xt $599 if you buy any AMD processor? You’ve already bought the bundle, I bet they would still honor that deal if you needed gpu too
cheeseypoofs85@reddit
no. just took a friend there tuesday and the deal was over. so i would say the 7800xt is the move here

+1 for this. Or 7800xt if not.

Either the latest Intel Arc GPU or a 5070 if you can find one at retail price. Keep an eye on Best Buy. They at least try to keep GPUs at retail & you can sign up for alerts for when they have them in stock.
InCo1dB1ood@reddit
That arc GPU is definitely not as powerful as the current 1080ti OP has. I say that because I actually have two new machines I've built with 9800X3D's, and the 580 absolutely holds it back big time compared to my old rig with the 2080 ti that's in it.
Sea_Perspective6891@reddit
Ok I realize that now. I was mostly going by price since there's not too many GPUs around $500 currently. I'd also recommend a 4060 or 4070 but even those will probably be harder to find at or near retail since they stopped making the 40 series.

Found an rtx 4070 used for 470$ and a 4070 super for 500$
Sea_Perspective6891@reddit
4070 is decent. I've been using one to play games in 1440p ultra since 2023. That seems like a solid price assuming it works & isn't a scam. Go for the Super.
EmbarrassedPolicy146@reddit
I got the 4070 a month ago and it’s been working great, I’m not sure if the 4070 super is a real posting.

Don't discount the 7800xt!
dulun18@reddit
a new RX 6800 for $320-$340 if you can find one
Ok_Reflection1950@reddit
I think for budget 500$ AMD will give you better value than Nivida .
b-maacc@reddit
5070 or 9070 if you can find it for MSRP of $550

5070 at 550

No love for 7800xt?

For $500 no

That's what I'm saying!

Best bet would be an AMD 7?00XT card. Try looking at the 7600/7700/7800XT variants.
The 7800XT is quite a beast, so it should be good.
The 9070 is also amazing, though you would need to stretch the budget.
xAGxDestroyer@reddit
Sounds like you live close enough to a micro center so I would utilize that if you can. As for the card, what’s its purpose? 1080p? 1440p? Streaming?
Ozen_9V@reddit (OP)
Large issue with MC is that it's a 2 hour trip, so 4 hours round for nothing helpful would suck lol. Even moreso due to when I went to get the 9800x3d package I was extremely tired and the employee seemed off his rocker in hindsight, told me there were only 3 ram slots on the board and channels didn't matter and the package came with a single 32gb stick so trying to cover all my bases before I got as I was led astray (one off incident definitely but still, being knowledgeable of what I'm looking for is nothing but a boon) As for purpose, I don't play the most taxing games and don't stream, but like my ceiling was hit before I could play the new Monster Hunter, or Oblivion Remastered, so on. Anything new seems beyond my scope. I'd of course like the games to look good and run good, so probably 1080p? Never had much of an interest in 4k or ray tracing stuff due to price point and so on.
iceyk111@reddit
you can do a store pickup, that way you only make the trip if something actually comes of it. i live in the poconos in pa so i never “hail mary” a store visit lolol.

5070
beedunc@reddit
RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is available, sometimes close to MSRP.
Raideals (MSI) restocks its Walmart store all day long.
Same for Bestbuy.
Good luck!

7800xt, B580, used 7900xt, used 3080. I mean ton of options in used market. But new very limited.
Agreeable_Log_8901@reddit
ive run a bunch of the 5x series and would rec saving up $800 for a 5700Ti. Its insane how expensive it is, but i think its worth it to have a solid GPU that will be relevant for years. otherwise maybe a 4800 if you can snag one.
MrBardledew@reddit
Really depends on your goal resolution and games you play, but I think a used 3080 or possibly 3080ti is gonna be the best bang for your buck at that budget. You could try and repaste your 1080 and get some more life out of it as well, but that's if you're comfortable messing with electronics.
