I heard Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train" today in my local garden centre as I was looking to buy some topsoil.

I also heard the Smiths "How Soon Is Now?" in the grocery store recently. Songs that my local radio stations would have never played back in the day. It was a bit trippy both times it happened.
heavinglory@reddit
The Cure came on while I was standing in line at Walgreen's pharmacy. I no longer needed my prescription filled!
allothernamestaken@reddit
This sounds like a Steven Wright bit.
blur410@reddit
I’m stealing this. Good one!
TealTemptress@reddit
So you embraced depression?
Shouty_Dibnah@reddit
I heard New Order at Target once. I saw a girl in a Joy Division shirt at the same time. She was about 12.
DoubleExposure@reddit (OP)
That must have been trippy.
-Economist-@reddit
Culver’s played Limp Bizkit Nookie.
Awkward-Initiative28@reddit
They play early punk like Buzzcocks and The Jam at my local Trader Joe's. Makes me feel very old.
marshallkrich@reddit
When I heard For Whom The Bell Tolls at Kroger, I was like....fuck, I'm old...
ElYodaPagoda@reddit
I'm not sure if this is something from a dream or what, but I swear I heard a Muzak version of Motörhead's "Ace of Spades" at the supermarket.
--frymaster--@reddit
if you want some swinging muzak metal, may i recommend this pat boone covers album. the ‘crazy train’ cover is actually pretty brilliant.

DaoFerret@reddit
I’d also suggest https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Swings
Best Crazy Train cover though is Iron Horse’s bluegrass cover https://youtu.be/Wmu6x5S7AbI
First heard it on Revolution and had to track it down.
--frymaster--@reddit
that’s compelling. i mean “eyes without a face” would really lend itself to the lounge ballad treatment.
DaoFerret@reddit
I actually found the album after hearing it as “store music” a bunch of years ago at a clothing store in Canada.
Most of it was just filtering through my brain as I walked around until they got to “black hole sun” and I literally stopped dead, realized what I was hearing, and went to the store employees to find out the album.
--frymaster--@reddit
just a little while ago there was a show that had a lounge cover of ‘black hole sun’ on the extro credits (looked it up: “willow” ep 4) and it was astounding.
i was never a huge perl jam fan, but it reminded me of when nirvana’s second album came out and i was super dismissive of it as just being popular because of butch vig’s production, and then one day i heard a guy in the mall playing ‘teen spirit’ solo on the piano and it was a total tonne-of-bricks “holy hell this is a great song” moment.
ElYodaPagoda@reddit
I liked that cover a lot! That’s rad!
Thirty_Helens_Agree@reddit
Mel Brooks said he heard a Muzak version of Springtime for Hitler in an elevator.
DoubleExposure@reddit (OP)
Like the elevator music version of it? LOL, that would have shook me to the core if I had heard that.
Rotary_99@reddit
I heard Let’s Active pumping out of the sidewalk speakers in front of a Dollar Tree recently - “Room With a View.”
What the actual fuck.
Glittering_Estate_72@reddit
21 year old at the bowling alley was listening to Iron Man, said to me: "Who is this?" I said "Ozzy" He said: "WRONG!! It's a band called Black Sabbath"
god help us.
SingLyricsWithMe@reddit
Not going to lie, that's witty.
Glittering_Estate_72@reddit
Would have been if he had known who Ozzy was. He didn't. It's why everyone at the table wanted to slap him.
mazopheliac@reddit
Zoomer was technically correct, which is the best kind of correct.
EvolutionCreek@reddit
Speaking of…if he was “turned to steel / in the great magnetic field,” is he really “Iron” Man at all?
Alloy Man doesn’t have the same ring I guess.
(I’ve mentioned this before and no one else has ever been bothered by it.)
mazopheliac@reddit
You’re not wrong
Glittering_Estate_72@reddit
My team mates all looked it him like he had actually shit his pants. I was tempted to feed him my 10lb ball.
Any-Perception3198@reddit
I heard Love Will Tear Is Apart at the gas station. Wept for my youth.
classicsat@reddit
Same here, with one local store I frequent (small department/grocery store) always playing 80s rock/pop for some reason. That would get some granny's knickers in a twist if that music was played in that store when it was new.
Tia-manzana@reddit
I hear all the lovely 80 music on the easy oldies station. I remember when my Uncle Preacher stood in the pulpit and bald face declared that the music was going to send the whole generation to hell!! I try to tell that too my younger coworkers, but they just can't see what could be so wrong about any of that music!! I just laugh.
mazopheliac@reddit
Shit feels kinda hellish to me these days.
Tia-manzana@reddit
Can't argue with that!
CriticalStrawberry15@reddit
You don’t like classic rock?
DoubleExposure@reddit (OP)
I don't dislike it, but in my youth, I tried listening to new music and even now I listen to a lot of new music. It is nice to listen to old music that you love, but it is always more exciting to find new music you love.
CriticalStrawberry15@reddit
Those two songs are now classic rock.
Vicodin-ES@reddit
That’s how you know for sure we’re getting old lol when Ozzy and Dr. Dre are playing in the garden center and arts and craft stores 😂
NicInNS@reddit
I hear G n R while grocery shopping.
zsreport@reddit
Your comment reminded of this great scene from Grosse Point Blank
EvolutionCreek@reddit
Me at Home Depot:
“Mental wounds still screaming
Driving me insane
I’m buying all your nails and some some oil-based stain”
MyriVerse2@reddit
These things are not really new. It's been happening since the 90s.
fuxxwitclowns@reddit
Legit
zsreport@reddit
I've heard 3 A.M. Eternal at a grocery store at about 7 on a Sunday morning
Bennieplant@reddit
Just try and enjoy it
DoubleExposure@reddit (OP)
I'm just happy it is not Bryan Adams.
Bennieplant@reddit
I can’t stand that dude!
mazopheliac@reddit
That comment cuts like a knife.
Bennieplant@reddit
It’s just everything I do
vqd6226@reddit
Heard depeche mode in the grocery store and almost melted 😱
wonderbeen@reddit
Same, heard it in Walmart. Commenced Karaoke 🎤
RomulanTrekkie@reddit
My daughter & I refer to it as a "Walmart Dance Party" when they play my old jams & then proceed to embarrass my husband! Depeche Mode, The Cure & The Fixx one after the other - yes!
PistachioGal99@reddit
Immediately sang “one thing leads to another” inside my head while reading your comment. Did you do that on purpose!?!
Brilliant_Park_2882@reddit
Some great bands there...
techdevjp@reddit
Have you heard the Marilyn Manson cover of Personal Jesus? It's pretty damn good!
PapaSmurfenburg@reddit
Heard Erasure 'Chains of Love' at Sam's Club today.
SilverAgeSurfer@reddit
Love Ozzy getting his recognition. It was so ridiculous the amount of hate given from the likes of Al Gores wife. Before you reddit operatives loose your shit so some research into Ol Tipper Gore and the PMRC.
CRI_Guy@reddit
To be fair, all Tipper was asking for was warning labels on inappropriate albums -- which we have today. And the world didn't end somehow. As a parent, I kind of appreciate them. It was all a big "todo" about nothing, really, and actually pretty reasonable. From what I recall anyway. I hope saying this doesn't mean I'm a reddit operative.
SilverAgeSurfer@reddit
You sound like a Reddit operative. Your all about censorship now that your a parent? Your probably a helicopter Mom. You obviously forgot what it's like to be your kids who rail against authority. Guess you're ok with book burners too. All Artists who went and spoke at the hearings didn't seem to be ok with it.
SubjectNet1874@reddit
Craziest one I've heard so far was Crazy Bitch in my local Kroger's was pretty shocked lol.
Generally_Tso_Tso@reddit
I was at a Steins Garden Center a few days ago and heard Crazy Train too. Maybe they play the same songs on loop.
BobcatBarry@reddit
“She’s Tricky” in my local grocery store threw me for a loop.
Confident_Low_4554@reddit
Sounds like a cool garden center
ShimmyxSham@reddit
I only heard “How Soon Is Now” at strip clubs?
RepliesOnlyToIdiots@reddit
I once heard Prince’s Darling Nikki on the speakers in a Trader Joe’s. I strongly suspect it was already going to be the person’s last day there. Just… not a grocery store song.
samuellbroncowitz@reddit
Heard Peace Sells about a year ago at a Sourdough & Co. while at lunch. Felt old AF and at the same time blew my mind that Megadeth was getting played at a corporate sandwich chain
beaujolais98@reddit
Silver sea cruise line has a commercial out that has Freebird as the background music. We are only 10 years away from that, my friends.
ImNotTheBossOfYou@reddit
You've mentioned two of the most popular songs of the 80s
Powerful-Union-7962@reddit
Still waiting to hear Angel of Death by Slayer playing as I’m browsing the vegetables at the supermarket….
CaptainKrakrak@reddit
I’d love a musak version of that song. Bonus points if the scream is done with a saxophone.
hippie94@reddit
NIN "I want to f*** you like an animal." On FM radio. We are living in strange times.
pirate_per_aspera@reddit
Takes me back every time - even if it is in the grocery store lol
Theomniponteone@reddit
Remember when they sued Ozzie because of his song Suicide Solution?
Pepperidge Farms remembers
FucktusAhUm@reddit
But do you remember the Styx incident?
Theomniponteone@reddit
With the backward lyrics? Zepplin and Black Oak Arkansas got harassed about that shit too. I will hand to those anti satanic groups, without them I might have stayed a Christian for longer. It really opened my eyes about religion and lead me to becoming Agnostic as a young teen.
LewSchiller@reddit
Roam in the Supermarket
Confident-Court2171@reddit
You haven’t lived until you’ve heard the Musak version of GnR Paradise City while boarding a Delta flight.
MasterAlchemi@reddit
I was at a swim meet last summer and the pep band credibly played “The Final Countdown.”
Had flashbacks to football games in the 80’s where we played “Louie Louie.”
LylaDee@reddit
Metallica and Iron Maiden, Dio, etc., play on the Classic Rock station here.
kinggeorgec@reddit
Crazy Train is played by our high school band during football games.
Normal-Philosopher-8@reddit
Crazy Train was in the Trolls 2 movie.
TealTemptress@reddit
That was my Mom’s ringtone.
Spam_A_Lottamus@reddit
Loose quote: “the reason our generation is so effed up is because we grew up to music from both Black Sabbath & Phil Collins.”
karen_boyer@reddit
My local Trader Joe's played Liz Phair at me not too long ago. Trippy is indeed the word. I actually thought I was having my first ever flashback.
Thirty_Helens_Agree@reddit
I heard Big Yellow Taxi while I was in the concrete aisle at Home Depot.
Puzzleheaded_Bed7656@reddit
I heard Ant Music at Petco.
Triggered-cupcake@reddit
Hearing that song in a store today would be like hearing a song from 1945 playing in 1980.
Narrow_Market_7454@reddit
Remember how forbidden the album covers looked at the time.
Impossible_Past5358@reddit
One Sunday morning i was at Wegman's and they were playing Setting Sun by the Chemical Brothers
ahutapoo@reddit
It's the equivalent of us hearing "Mack the Knife" bitd
anothercynic2112@reddit
Good analogy
CRI_Guy@reddit
I've heard AC/DC's Hell's Bells on several occasions in the grocery store. It blows my mind that it's come to this!
