Jesus, you guys are a salty bunch. Next thing you’re going to tell me is that Tom Hanks wasn’t actually a sergeant in World War II, or Stallone wasn’t a real boxer. Go take acting classes and try out for a part. Not sure what movie this is, but if it’s the main character driving they aren’t just going to sub a real truck driver in, but if they do have any exterior shots of the truck actually moving, I’m sure they have a real trucker for that.
I remember hearing a director comment that there's a history of really nasty accidents from folks trying to actually drive while they're acting. Maybe an extreme form of distracted driving where our brains just can't do two complex tasks at once?
We call it 'free driving', and i do not care to be in the car when an actor is driving. There are many other ways to make it look real without having actors at the wheel.
Am camera operator.
Sound guy checking in, free driving sucks (loud engines ruin our dialogue). But very glad we just plant and walk away, never have to worry about being inside.
Stallone is a trucker/arm wrestler who’s exwifes dying wish is for him to reconnect with his son by driving him home from private school while he makes his way to Las Vegas for an arm wrestling competition. Great film
BARB! THIS YOUNG MAN SAID STALLONE WASN'T A REAL BOXER. DIDN'T WE SEE HIM ON THE TV? I SAW STALLONE BOX ON THE TV WITH MY OWN TWO EYES. YOU GONNA TELL ME IM FULL OF IT? send
And you tell anyone who tells you different to fuck off. I think the issue is you can’t debate it. You wanna say your bullshit with no pushback for whatever reason.
A lot of anti union people see the downfall of yellow as a direct result of the union blocking moves that would have allowed yellow to cut out the non profitable parts of their company. And when it came time for the company to go under, the union used that to send a message to another company they were in negotiations with (UPS) that if you don't give the union what it wants, the union will run your company out of business.
No one knows how much of that is true, but that's sure what it looked like at the time.
The fact that you think working class people are primarily pro union, let's me know you don't.
Your misuse of the phrase "temporarily embarrassed capitalists" also let's me know you have no idea what you are talking about and are just trying to insult people who don't agree with your way of thinking.
Go read a book. Learn something about the world before you try and tell others how they should live. And get rid of your envious nature while you are at it.
I know most people are not pro-union in the US nowadays or at least they’re not joining them. Unions have been destroyed by the rich in this country over the last few decades. Rates have at least halved while the support has not gone nearly that far down and again you didn’t even mention working class people. You expect me to read your mind and then get mad at me when I don’t? What’s your problem, dude? If that’s what you meant, fine, just say that.
I didn’t say capitalists. I said millionaires. You’re not necessarily a capitalist if you’re a millionaire. I’m guessing you don’t know what capital is. It’s land or equipment that creates goods etc. if you just have a million dollars but no machines etc that aids in production of goods and services then you’re not a capitalist. That’s the difference between personal and private property.
Also, I don’t know why you think I’m attacking you. I was just saying the rich are the ones mostly against unions. If you look at polls, the working and middle classes are much more in favor of unions. Obviously cause they get more money and benefits with unions while the rich get less. As it should be. The working class creates far more value in proportion to their cut of profits etc. I haven’t attacked you once friend. Just said what I think.
On average, union jobs pay more, have better benefits, are safer, have better holidays, and pto, but that doesn't mean every union job is perfect. A union is only as strong as it's members and their level of involvement.
Employer-sponsored benefits including health insurance, retirement, and paid leave. Union workers are far more likely than nonunion workers to be covered by employer-provided health insurance. More than nine in 10 unionized workers have access to employer-sponsored health benefits, compared with just 68% of nonunion workers, and union employers contribute more to their employees’ health care benefits (EPI 2021d). Furthermore, union employers are more likely to offer retirement plans and to contribute more toward those plans than comparable nonunion employers. Union workers are also more likely to have paid sick days, vacation and holidays, more input into the number of hours they work, and more predictable schedules (EPI 2021d).
Strengthened health and safety. Unions also improve the health and safety of workplaces by providing health insurance and paid sick time, requiring safety equipment, and empowering workers to report unsafe conditions without fear of retaliation (Zoorob 2018; Amick et al. 2015). So-called right-to-work legislation that weakens unions has been associated with a roughly 14% increase in the rate of occupational fatalities (Zoorob 2018).
Like I said the only part of your statement that is true is the benefits. Most of whatever you cited discusses the benefits then dabbles into safety regulations and holidays which most employers currently are well aware of and are competitive with.
I'm a union camera operator.
Theatrical Teamsters make insane money. On some of our contracts, substantially more than I do.
Here's the internet telling you they get 'payed' well...
You are absolutely right. I have done a few movies as a lowly stagehad and you've got to know somebody to get on. they pay extremely well I was paid 75/hour and my brother was paid 90 as a high rigger basically climbing on trusses and installing lighting rigs and camera rigs or whatever they need up there.
Cheaper, maybe, but that would be illegal (can't film and drive in most places). and you wouldn't be able to light the scene with those two giant panel lights they have in front of the truck.
Fuel is just WOKE oil! You know what kind of additives they put in that stuff! I only use natural oil in my truck, straight from the Earth, just like God intended.
I once heard a story about how if guys got an over load ticket (construction) at the scale they’d ride like this all the way to a landfill on a low boy and still get paid to take the load because boss knew the risk of going over the scales anyways. A little extra if you ask me but hey it worked lol they would just unload the truck at the landfill and he’d go dump
This is probably the best way to do things, honestly. I do not want an actor, even one who is or was an experienced trucker, to have to split their focus between performing and driving.
Wonder what this was for. Be nice to see the finished production.
Either a scene in a movie, or something as mundane as a commercial. Still cool though. Then there's green screens and gymbals that helicopter fuselage are mounted on. A real helicopter would cost a ton. So why not get a written off airframe and relegate it to productions???
Years ago at my CDL school, one of the road instructors looked like he could have been an actor that played a movie trucker. Cool looking older gentleman. Cowboy hat, boots, button shirt, mustache, etc. I only rode with him a couple of times, so I can't remember his name, but his typical attire begs for him to be nicknamed "Tex."
You remember that scene in Smokey and the Bandit where all the other truckers show up and help wreck the cop cars? This guy would have fit right in as a driver in that scene.
I’ve seen them filming driving scenes before, they used to do it in studios with green screen, but it looked really fake, but filming somebody actually driving while also acting can be difficult and dangerous. Not to mention it can be really unstable for the camera.
