I was obsessed with this thing when I was like 6 or 7. What a beautiful machine
Wowlymowly@reddit
Is this nearby Budel, the Netherlands?
Hey-buuuddy@reddit
This has to be their best Chinook pilot or something. Wow.
HawkDriver@reddit
A basic turn with a slight climb, and not that low. It’s really easy to do.
elkab0ng@reddit
In a machine that does NOT want to fly, with two death-spinners playing an endless game of rock paper rotor to decide which one’s gonna oscillate and kill everyone.
Just a basic turn, though. lol
(Fixed wing pilot here, regular rotorcraft are wizardry, this thing is… I don’t even know the word)
Pleasework94@reddit
The Chinook is actually a super stable platform as the two rotors counter each other’s spin, a tail rotor platform takes more effort.
With the added dafcs even the unexperienced could fly it (hovering or manoeuvring into tight areas gets difficult, but forward flight is fine).
HawkDriver@reddit
I fly both fixed and military rotary, so to me no biggie.
Imagine if your fixed wing aircraft just left the engines on full all the time, and the controls and a computer determined fuel input needed to match flight requirements, you don’t need to ever think about throttle or power for the most part. You don’t have to think about that much on a 47. Flying with very little weight in the back, you’re barely pulling any engine torque. These machines when under minimal load are incredible (and fun) to fly.
We have to start paying attention more with high gross weight, extreme hot or cold, or high altitude. It’s a little less fun when you are barely off the ground and the aircraft is already in time restricted engine or transmission ranges.

lol a helicopter pilot pilots a helicopter... And you guys a are like
:-D
External-Ad605@reddit
Seriously, that pilot's skills are insane.
AirJerk@reddit
I miss getting to do this as a crew chief. That view from the right side of the aircraft is awesome while hauling!

This reminds of CFB Petawawa.

No nothing here. I was surprised by the quietness. I guess it makes sense they would engineer it that way! Love the muted sound of the blades.
Existing_Royal_3500@reddit
When the Apaches are escorting the Chinooks the Chinooks have to slow down in order for them to keep up.
Old-Car-9962@reddit
I guess this is because the Apaches have less power and more WEAPONRY
Existing_Royal_3500@reddit
I believe it is because the Chinook has advancing blades on both sides to help reduce retreating blade stalls.
ISTBU@reddit
I'm pretty sure only the Hind is faster - Chinooks can fuckin rip.
MotorcycleDad1621@reddit
Well I mean they do have two MASSIVE rotor blades assemblies compared to the Apache…
UnarmedTwo@reddit
I recently read on another thread that Chinook pilots fly them like they stole them, and this video really bears that out.
Existing_Royal_3500@reddit
Yes on the speed but I'm not sure if the stubby wings contribute to the speed or if they just provide external hard points.

Enduring_Insomniac@reddit
That sound at around 8 seconds.
Love to experience that IRL, no sound system in the world is gonna emulate that.
External-Ad605@reddit
That deep thumping sound is unreal in person.
rotorboy1972@reddit
What an incredible machine. I have intense pride in my work as CH47D component tech. Overhauling main rotor heads for a fleet of fire fighting 47s. It’s like being paid to participate in a hobby that I would do for free just for the chance to be part of it. Aviation is a sickness for some of us.
External-Ad605@reddit
That’s awesome, must feel amazing to work directly on those machines!

Looks like a flying cow. Oh wait....
Uphene@reddit
Watching Chinooks will never get old for me. 40+ years on and I still feel that child-like awe seeing 'em.
SailplaneArsonist@reddit
Hell yeah.
mickturner96@reddit
When you are on the ground and are looking at the top side of a Chinook!
Dam!!!
BreadWithSalmon@reddit (OP)
According to the hooks callsign, it could still be a training flight from an inexperienced pilot, but still!
mickturner96@reddit
Makes it even more impressive
Top-Sundae-3131@reddit
That's awesome! Enjoy the Chinook flyby!
