Are there glasses that are comfortable with headsets?

Was wondering if anybody has found glasses that are comfortable to wear with over ear headsets?
My glasses are giving me nothing but problems and I'd love it if there were glasses with arms that were comfortable to wear that didn't break the bank. Ombraz seem cool but are almost 500 a pop
Anyone have luck with this?
ketralnis@reddit
Zenni had a line called Optiflex that come in prescription and sunglasses and both. They market to gamers. I have a pair of OptiFlex Aviator in prescription with clip-on sunglasses and they were cheap and comfortable. They are forward heavy so I have to wear them with a clip in the back or they fall off during the walk around checklist but with a headset on they stay in just fine. They’re so cheap I’d say to just order a pair and see what you think

You the goat, didn't know these existed.

Perfect! Thanks

Gatorz are great.
Turd--Sandwich@reddit
I used Bose A20s but found any glasses would break the seal, no matter how thin. Even worse when I wore a hat. Sound is getting through the gaps and is bad for your ears. I switched to in ear headsets like the QT halo (30-45db) reduction. Found them to be quieter and much more comfortable. I’ve got a spare set for sale on Facebook if you’re interested

Randolph Engineering Prescription eye ware.

ketralnis@reddit
Why does nobody on that website look happy?
Actually_A_Pilot@reddit
These are the glasses we get issues for flying in the Navy. We get a clear lense pair, prescription sunglasses, and regular sunglasses. They are great. And the straight arms means you can remove/replace without removing you helmet (or headset)
Sharp_Experience_104@reddit
Came here to say this. Tried and true.
Paul_The_Builder@reddit
These eyeglass cushions from David Clarke help a lot. They pad where the eyeglass stem meets the headset cup, which both improves comfort and improves the seal of the headset so the noise cancellation works better. They're cheap, so probably worth a try before spending big money on expensive eyeglasses.
dieseltaco@reddit
These are marketed to streamer/gamers who needlessly wear big headsets for fashion reasons
I like them. Note how they flatten on the trailing edge and stay out from behind your ears.

My Oakley Holbrook Metal frames work pretty well they're nice and thin
hxk1@reddit
Oakley OTT is the only Oakley I’ll ever fly with
bhalter80@reddit
ott?
hxk1@reddit
Nothing will fit better with your noise cancelling headset.
Fly_Navy@reddit
I second this, on my second pair!
beretta01@reddit
I have the Holbrook XL….have you tried the standard one’s compared to the metal? Just curious, my lenses scratch every 6 months with Oakley, I’ve been ordering aftermarket lenses for replacements….I wish they had more durable lenses because I really do like the Prizm Grey, it just scratches so easily.
Fly_Navy@reddit
I haven’t used the plastic, just the metal. And I agree, the lenses are like tissue paper. You sneeze and there is a giant scratch
bhalter80@reddit
Have you tried taking the rubber bumpers on the bottom of the arms off? That's the only thing that really gives it thickness and gets annoying after 4 hours
Fly_Navy@reddit
I have not, if it becomes an issue I’ll def look at doing that
mooseup@reddit
Third this, I generally buy a new set every year or so from Oakley Standard Issue for ~$150. Non-polarized of course.
Creepy_Type@reddit
Rayban Aviators have been good to me
run264fun@reddit
Yeah I’ve always flown with those. Although, I bought my on eBay and after a few years came across a video on YouTube on “how to tell if your Raybans are counterfeit.” They are. But still function as they should
the_doctor_808@reddit
Me too. Never had any issues since i switched. Quality glasses.

Oakleys have always fitted well with my headset
Unlucky_Geologist@reddit
Funny enough most guys who like their glasses at my airline wear designers like prada or tom ford. They are light, fit flush and create a good seal. Good materials too.
Southern-Bread-5855@reddit
YSL is the move! Super thin super comfy
Southern-Bread-5855@reddit
I love any YSL aviator style sunglasses. Lightweight and covers a lot of your eye region to block out most rays! I fly with them 8hrs a day and they are super comfortable
Southern-Bread-5855@reddit
I love any YSL sunnies - they are light weight and thin
Rubik4life@reddit
Zeno optical aviators
TopoMapMyWall@reddit
Oakley Holbrook mix. Oakley aviators with bayonet style sides. Native makes a few of their narrower style sides. Anything super slim.
joeyheynow@reddit
Flying Eyes have been great for me
EsquireRed@reddit
I’ll second these. I have a “regular” pair and sunglasses too from them. Fit great with my A20s.
bterrik@reddit
Been wearing Flying Eyes since 2013. On only my second pair, and that’s because I finally lost my first pair. They were ugly anyway lol apparently 2013 me had no sense of style.
But absolutely love them under my QC35s. And the gradient lens is also great. I love having it darker up top and then less shade over the instrument panel.
I’ll wear em as long as they keep making them.
doubleboss00@reddit
My biggest issue with flying eyes is how cheap they feel. I got a try on kit thinking I just needed to figure out which style I wanted, however, I ended up not buying any of them and getting a pair of Randolph Engineering Aviators. They may not be as thin as flying eyes, but they still work great and feel 100x better in my option.
I wish flying eyes would come out with some thin metal frames or something, because I think I would really like them.
Tony_Three_Pies@reddit
The point of the Flying Eyes is not only that they’re thin but that they’re so flexible, which allows them to “crush” under a headset and not break the earcup seal. Metal frames would defeat the purpose.
Charming-Proof6251@reddit
I've had a pair of flying eyes for 3 years now. I wear them every day (mostly NOT in an airplane) but they are just as good now as they were when I got them. The first pair I received had some issues with the rear pieces delaminating, but I contacted them and they swapped them out for a new pair after sending them some pictures. Haven't had any other issues with them. While they are light and feel kind of cheap, they are indeed with the money and hold up to a lot more than they probably should!
IFlyPA28II@reddit
I actually had the same problem twice with two different pairs lol but they are great with send me a replacement right away
potat0man69@reddit
Randolph engineering is way better. Flying eyes are decent glasses as far as I can tell, but what you’re actually getting for the price is a ripoff. Randolph and American optical are both really high quality glass, with super well built frames.
TypeAncient5997@reddit
I went back and forth forever trying to convince myself to buy them (or not) since I kept reading the praise while seeing the same criticism above about them feeling cheap. I finally bought a pair a few months ago.
I have zero regrets. I've tried many aviator-style glasses and not a single one has performed better under my Lightspeed Zulu 3 headset in terms of preserving the ANR seal. And they're so light I forget I'm wearing them. They're now my go-to sunglasses for everything.
I don't mean to diminish others' experience with them "feeling" cheap. But my personal opinion is that I couldn't care less. They're not actually fragile. If they "felt" cheap and also broke easily that'd be one thing. But I've never read a single report of breaking them, of them not lasting a long time, etc. So I'm happy.
theArcticChiller@reddit
Rayban aviators with wires. It feels like there's nothing at all, just perfect.
Veritech-1@reddit
I have ombraz. 100% worth it. Not sure where you are getting the $500 figure from. Mine were $100 on Black Friday. Regularly around $160-$170.
DirkChesney@reddit
I love my Ombraz as well! They’re great. They take a bit of getting use to but I would never go to something else
DirkChesney@reddit
I love my Ombraz
KaHOnas@reddit
I've had these since 1996. I've still got the original pair and I've bought a second.
Randolphs are also a fine choice.
smoothbrian@reddit
I love my ombraz
I used to lose my sunglasses all the time, but I’ve never lost these because they stay wrapped around my neck when they’re not on my face. The straps fit very comfortably under a headset.

Aggravating-House620@reddit
Flying eyes are incredibly comfortable but it’s insane that they charge $220 for some sunglasses that can’t cost more than a few bucks to make, ship, and package. They’re only expensive because they relate to flying.
Skrenlin@reddit
I have been wearing Silhouettes for a few years .. the stems are super thin. I've never had any sort of discomfort wearing headphones.
NerfMonster@reddit
Ombraz hands down. Armless sunglasses. Bought em when I started flying and never going to anything else now. https://ombraz.com/
Legitimate-Watch-670@reddit
+1 for flying eyes.
I hate glasses. My eyes are fine, so went 100% without anything on my face until a recent effort to preserve my eyes from the sun.
My biggest issue with them is that I forget I'm wearing them while flying. There's been several flights now, im sitting there worried it's getting dark on us, once even keyed up the runway lights. It wasn't dark; it was a few minutes after sunset. I forgot I was wearing sunglasses until I took my headset off and they moved...
VeggieMeatTM@reddit
For prescription sunglasses, I love my Randolph Engineering frames.
For non-tinted prescription glasses, I wear the 1211021 optiflex frames from Zenni (https://www.zennioptical.com/p/plastic-rectangle-eyeglass-frames/12110/1211021) which look pretty similar to Flying Eyes Luzon frames. I have had days where I've worn them for upwards of 6 hours under closed back headsets without a break (though not in a plane in that situation).
TheJohnRocker@reddit
Goodr are not bad for $35 but are polarized so if you’re flying with glass then not so good depending on the avionics. But a good cheap option, Randolph or Ray-Ban’s are a good option if looking for quality long term use.

For GA or jets? If jets just keep your glasses and get a Bose Proflight.
RevolutionaryWear952@reddit
I went the other way and got clarity aloft headset. I’ll never go back to clamps. Where whatever eyewear you prefer at that point.
HappyBappyAviation@reddit
I'm on my second pair of Method Seven sunglasses. I still have the first but after I threw them lens down on some cement and living with some minor scratches I got a new pair. The first pair is still going and the scratches are barely noticeable with what I put them through. Now I have my 'car' sunglasses and a pair that lives in my flight bag.
I've worn them under my A20s both as a CFI and an airline guy and I barely notice them even after 5 or 6 hours of flying. I have a big head and I notice the A20s, but I almost don't notice the glasses. They run about 275 a piece and they really are tough. Definitely recommend.
pilotjlr@reddit
Method Seven lenses are my favorite. Nothing is quite as good.

Flying Eyes
OpheliaWitchQueen@reddit
I like the Serengeti Matera. They're specifically for flying with a dark upper for outside and a lighter lower for charts and instruments inside.
scarpozzi@reddit
I only buy metal Ray Ban frames. My prescription eye glasses are a thicker temple than my sunglasses, but all are lightweight and still stand up to the earpieces on my Lightspeed Zulu 3s.
Back when I wore my standard ASA headset, the earmuffs were more rigid and comfort was more of a concern.
Delicious-Advantage6@reddit
I wear RX6355 ray bans and they have clip on sunglasses . Very comfortable
vivalamaximillien@reddit
Randolph Engineering for quality and Flying Eyes for comfort (bit overpriced in my opinion for what you actually get but very comfortable).
TaMere_26@reddit
I've got under 600 hours TT and I've gone through two pairs of Randolphs. One set the lense kept falling out, the other got really bent when I semi-gently shoved them onto my face while wearing a helmet. I get them free through work but would not buy them with my own money.
-burnr-@reddit
I’ve got over 12,000 hours TT and I’ve gone through two pairs of Randolphs. One set lasted the first 15 years of my career, the other are still going strong. I have to pay retail price, including swapping out lenses for prescription lenses. I will spend my own money to buy another pair if when the second frames wear out
BandicootNo4431@reddit
I'm pretty sure they're the ones who make the military aviators.
BeeDubba@reddit
To rephrase your question, are there headsets that are comfortable with sunglasses.
I went to an on the ear headset, now every pair of sunglasses is comfortable.

I have 4 pr of flying eyes. Two for work under my headset, one sunnies, one for night. And a pair in the truck, and one floating around. I beat the piss outta them. Oldest pair is over 3 years old. 2 pr are prescription. Have a pair for the wife when we fly the plane together. And a pair for my Pops.
I guess I like them
dksyndicate@reddit
Serenghetti aviators are the OG for pilot sunglasses. After 25 years, only on my second pair.
phliar@reddit
Metal frames. I use titanium frames, which are very thin and fit great under the headset.
CaptKittyHawk@reddit
Yep, my titanium frames are small enough and flexible enough to work quite well!
cl_320@reddit
Orgreen glasses has some frames with really flat sides that work good with headsets
Bones_Zone@reddit
I rock ombraz. They’ve just got a strap instead of arms over the ear. Probably not for everyone, but they’re comfy for hours under headphones, and I run regularly and never have issues with them falling off.
Wyc01@reddit
Ray Ban New Clubmaster (emphasis on NEW style) have been great for me under my A20s. The new style has thin flat metal arms which don't break the seal around the ears and are comfortable for long flights. They do have a bit of a plastic end to the arms which is still pretty minimal.
This is in contrast to the classic clubmasters which have box-section plastic arms
flyingron@reddit
I wear cheap-ass aviator wireframes I get from Zenni Optical. Never had a problem.
Kemerd@reddit
What you really want is ones that provide good visibility like a pair of aviators, but isn’t heavy. The heaviness is what hurts the ears.
Try the Ray Bans RB8755, they have been perfect for me, I always fly with them. Doesn’t impact your field of view or peripheral vision and you can get with transition lenses.
McDrummerSLR@reddit
I’ve been wearing Oakley holbrooks for pretty much as long as I’ve been flying and had no issues.
A_CC@reddit
My glasses from warby parker fit great with a30s
Swvfd626@reddit
Gatorz A metal frame that you can bend to fit you better and super thin so they don't push my temples and give me a headache. They also don't mess with ANC. But if you're flying with a glass cockpit, make sure you don't get polarized or some of the screens you won't be able to see at an angle.
A_Squid_A_Dog@reddit
I've been flying with ESS Supressor sunglasses. They were designed to fit under shooting headsets or machine work headsets. They're super comfortable. You will lose every fashion contest.
It appears they have a prescription option. I haven't tried it personally as I'm a contacts guy.

If you can afford them, Silhouette brand glasses are amazingly comfortable with my overeat headset. The frame that goes around the ear is only as thick as wire so I barely notice them and they are very light weight.
