It's completely relevant. We don't use those boxes, designed for eating out of, because we use plastic packaging which is meant to be emptied out onto plates. The advantage is the plastic packaging keeps it warmer with no chance of leaks.
The disadvantage is killing the planet, of course, as it's soft plastic.
That image doesn’t show anyone eating out of the box. Also, I could post an image of me holding chopsticks over a plastic package and it would still be irrelevant.
I’m currently eating out of a plastic container for my main, I have a cardboard container with noodles in for my side and also pizza on a plate. Your point is irrelevant.
It’s just YouTube/tiktok, or whatever shared social media they use.
What really opened my eyes to all of this was how my nephew from the UK, and my niece from Australia fully understood each others slang words. They don’t have local/regional variations anymore, it’s just a universal culture/language that they all follow.
I don't think it is a second language thing, looking at OP's post history. I have a feeling it's more to do with how you might enter a question in a search engine. Same as with the dreaded "How to fix this?"
Nice one haha! It’s just an insult in Scotland! It only means a porn mag! But scud in Scotland means naked! So a scudbook is a nudebook or porn mag( things of the past really) but it’s a term we use for someone being a bit of a dick, they get called scudbook! Things I never thought I’d be typing 🤣
Yep, sandwiches and leftovers, and then one day you put curry in them and turmeric stains them and then you can only use them for curry until they break.
I for one have many of these Tupperware boxes from my local Chinese and I’d happily take more. They’re perfect for leftovers, somewhere to put sandwiches etc.
They are great, except for when they change supplier every few months, and you have about 5 different designs of container that are similar enough to be indistinguishable when in the messy tupperware cupboard, but different enough for the lids to be incompatible.
So very annoying. I'm sure the Germans must have a word for this container based strife
Even if not reused I suspect that a box made from a single type of plastic, most likely with a high recycled material content (they are milky not clear), is more eco friendly than a box made from card coated in plastic which is what those boxes are.
Not recyclable but can be burned in a controlled manner to produce electricity and all the bad smoke filtered heavily.
Micro plastics is one of the biggest health concerns today and could be responsible for the much higher rates of cancer and mental health problems over the last couple of decades.
Micro plastics is a vastly bigger concern than whether you can recycle the paper, in any case it can be composted.
I had to correct my own parents on this the other day. I feel so disheartened that we may be losing our language and culture to the USA, which is hardly the shining example to follow.
I agree i would like to see them start using the cardboard boxes though, better for the environment. So long as they don't coat them in plastic of course.
The boring reason is that Brits prefer wet chinese food (sweet and sour etc.) whilst in the US it's more noodles etc. The cardboard containers leak. (In the US if you get wet chinese food the sauce tends to come in Styrofoam containers).
All my local takeaways in North Carolina use those for small portions of rice. Everything else comes in plastic. Honestly they’re both crap compared to foil as neither hold heat.
There was a store in Leicester called Yumchi. They sold their food in boxes, and it was so yummy. That was 14 years ago, though. I wonder if they still exist.
Neds Noodle Bar does them in the UK although they only have 5 locations and they're not a full Chinese menu, just takeaway noodles with various flavours.
My grandparents have a Chinese restaurant, the reason is because these boxes were invented in the USA and stayed there. Actually they are suppose to be unfolded into a plate. I've never seen them in China.
I had a Chinese in America just because it came in these boxes. I never saw one box like this when touring China. The translator told me it's an American thing.
And every time you see it on TV the American is always using chopsticks eat it at home
Ive used chopsticks in a restaurant but wouldn't bother to do it at home.
About 15 years ago I used to get chinese takeaway from an amazing spot that came in these type of boxes. Absolutely Huge portions, this could be part of the reason… although im sure they make smaller boxes.
Still the best takeaway I’ve ever had, called ginger dragon or something similar
DanielFrancis13@reddit
Because we don't eat out of cardboard? We use plates, like normal people.
Organic-Locksmith-45@reddit
Does your local Chinese deliver food on plates?
DanielFrancis13@reddit
No, we own those.
Organic-Locksmith-45@reddit
Then your remark doesn’t make any sense.
DanielFrancis13@reddit
Do you usually eat out of packaging?
Organic-Locksmith-45@reddit
That isn’t relevant to the original question asked.
DanielFrancis13@reddit
It's completely relevant. We don't use those boxes, designed for eating out of, because we use plastic packaging which is meant to be emptied out onto plates. The advantage is the plastic packaging keeps it warmer with no chance of leaks.
The disadvantage is killing the planet, of course, as it's soft plastic.
Organic-Locksmith-45@reddit
Not at all. Neither are designed to be eaten out of. Both are purely vessels.
DanielFrancis13@reddit
And yet, they do...
Although can the average American actually use chopsticks?
Organic-Locksmith-45@reddit
That image doesn’t show anyone eating out of the box. Also, I could post an image of me holding chopsticks over a plastic package and it would still be irrelevant.
DanielFrancis13@reddit
What do you think they're doing, unpacking it one piece at a time?
Plus there's plenty of American TV shows where they show it being eaten straight out of the box. And we know TV never lies.
Organic-Locksmith-45@reddit
Maybe they are. But it’s still irrelevant to your original comment.
DanielFrancis13@reddit
Have you forgotten what the original comment was? It was about how said takeaways are eaten. So of course it's still relevant.
Organic-Locksmith-45@reddit
No I haven’t. You’re assuming food is eaten from the vessel. You’re simply incorrect.
DanielFrancis13@reddit
Evidence is there.
There's literally a shit tonne of people eating from the boxes pictures.
Organic-Locksmith-45@reddit
I’m currently eating out of a plastic container for my main, I have a cardboard container with noodles in for my side and also pizza on a plate. Your point is irrelevant.
BALLCLASH@reddit
McDonalds, KFC, Burger King and every takeaway pizza all come in cardboard
Steamrolled777@reddit
Anyone else remember the gold fleck polystyrene boxes Big Macs came in?
Glorinsson@reddit
Those plastic containers are amazing. Use them for years!
Jack-Rabbit-002@reddit
Don't I have a cupboard full of them The worst thing is they came with me when I moved too Lol
Kitchen_Part_882@reddit
Nah, the worst thing is there are about 83 ever so slightly different shapes where the lid doesn't quite fit the others.
pakcross@reddit
Take a bit of time out of your day, and sort them out. Discard any rogue lids and tubs, and match the rest up.
I did this a few years back, and it's made my life so much easier.
Ok_Gear6019@reddit
Yeah right after I clear out the 2 black bags of carrier bags in the attic.
Ajram1983@reddit
A week later you’ll have a cupboard full of mismatched ones again.
pakcross@reddit
I live a peaceful life. I have a tuppaware cupboard which is neatly stacked, and organised so that lids and tubs are together.
It's not much, but it's honest work.
Ajram1983@reddit
So you are the one who steals all our kids and leaves us yours that have lost their tub partner??
pakcross@reddit
I'm gonna assume that "kids" was a typo, and that you don't know about what's in my basement.
Ajram1983@reddit
You would be correct, and I don’t want to know. Ignorance is bliss
somersetscot@reddit
Then have to go through at least 7 lids before you find on that fits!!
popsy13@reddit
Stack the empty boxes and lids separately, last one washed fits the lid
4ever_lost@reddit
Mind blown! I just throw them in the cupboard and shut the door quick so they don't fall out

generichandel@reddit
Completely off topic, but this way of phrasing a question is becoming increasingly common and is so incredibly irritating to me.
Organic-Locksmith-45@reddit
I wonder where it originates? It seems like a second language thing, which is fine, but I’m guessing it isn’t.
i-am-a-passenger@reddit
It’s just YouTube/tiktok, or whatever shared social media they use.

Beatnoise@reddit
Well said! Little fuckin scudbooks trying to talk as if they are in saved by the bell or some shite!
generichandel@reddit
I had to look up scudbooks, but yeah. Och aye.
Beatnoise@reddit

droidaloid@reddit
It sounds like a Chinese person is asking the question.
20dogs@reddit
It does and my first thought was that OP might be Chinese
F430Scuderia@reddit
Why he say fuck me for?
nikhkin@reddit
The phrasing is more like a clickbait headline that will claim to answer the question than an actual question.
I assume that's the origin of this particular form of poor grammar.
sp0o0okyy@reddit
SAME !! pisses me off so bad
Sorry-Thing7797@reddit
If I had to guess I’d say it’s because the Tupperware that the British Chinese takeaway comes in is reusable, therefore good for the environment.
PetersMapProject@reddit
Only if they're actually reused - and I question how many of them actually are.
newtonbase@reddit
I often use them to store leftovers while waiting for them to go off.
Round_Caregiver2380@reddit
I use them for meal prep. I'll use 28 of them on Sunday when I cook for the week.
HugePatFenis@reddit
I'd happily argue that 99% of the tubs are reused.
Extreme_External7510@reddit
Yep, sandwiches and leftovers, and then one day you put curry in them and turmeric stains them and then you can only use them for curry until they break.
HugePatFenis@reddit
Even if they crack you can still store appropriate sized foodstuffs.
rocki-i@reddit
Our lab used to reuse them to store some of our frozen materials. The EQA did smell like chow mein for a couple of months
Sorry-Thing7797@reddit
I actually believe many people reuse them.
I for one have many of these Tupperware boxes from my local Chinese and I’d happily take more. They’re perfect for leftovers, somewhere to put sandwiches etc.
GrandAsOwt@reddit
They sell them in Costco, if you know anyone who has a card. They come in a box of about 11 million though so you’ll be well supplied for years.
Alas_boris@reddit

I have actually had a Chinese takeaway in a box like this in England, years ago. The plastic ones are great to keep and reuse forever, though.
FruitOrchards@reddit
And to add another source of micro plastic that will enter your bloodstream, cross the blood/brain barrier and enter organs.
Yayyyy
Interesting-Mud-3665@reddit
Yes, yes, microplastics are bad. But paper/card is one time use and not recyclable in most places because it's covered in food.
FruitOrchards@reddit
Not recyclable but can be burned in a controlled manner to produce electricity and all the bad smoke filtered heavily.
