I’m **NOT** a Boomer!

Anyone else getting so sick of being called a Boomer by the younger generations, especially on here? Boomers are 1946-1964. GenX: 1965-1980. Yes, we’re old, but, hey, my in-laws are way back pre-Boomer, aka Silent Generation. Ok, rant over.
MountainCavalier@reddit
I would argue that GenX is 1961-1981.
OldBanjoFrog@reddit
I just say, “Whatever,” when that happens
alligator13_8@reddit
Good choice.
After all, saying “whatever” with the right intonation is our clubhouse password.
Smooth-Mulberry4715@reddit
I’ve updated my response to mkay.
It’s just as passive aggressive, but with a millennial twist - for maximum understanding of how few fucks I give.
JeighNeither@reddit
Millennial? I guess they consume South Park, but that show was born in our heyday. I'm sensing a Boomer is among us 😂
Smooth-Mulberry4715@reddit
Not a boomer. Went to college with millennials after I single-handedly raised my son. But mkay.
JeighNeither@reddit
Gen X ends in 80
Fokewe@reddit
The test is remembering a time without MTV
Head-Proof7273@reddit
There's a current band that is singlehandedly bringing back Mtv-esque entertainment! They're banning cell phones from their concerts and they've hired Vanessa Warwick of 1992-1993 Mtv fame to give backstage access to people at home who couldn't get tickets! They call it Ghoulbanger's Ball because the band is basically a frontman who is a demonic pope who performs with a group of Nameless Ghouls. They are giving all access passes to famous photographers and metal magazines are making a comeback! Their music is even a huge throwback to the amazing music of Gen X's time. Think about how Abba, Def Leppard, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and Journey would sound if someone took their best hits and put them in a test tube and created a lab-grown baby. That would be Ghost! I'm a huge fan. My daughters (22 and 18) got me into their music. My youngest daughter says she's "nostalgic" for the 80s, even though she was born in 2007!
robla@reddit
Kids born after 1975 probably don't remember much about the pre-MTV era, and weren't exactly the target audience for the "Video Killed the Radio Star" video when it first aired on MTV. I think a better test is remembering the Challenger explosion, especially learning about its fate in class. I feel bad for younger GenX'ers, many of whom probably watched it live and maybe watched their teachers try to keep their composure.
Direct_Sandwich1306@reddit
We absolutely did watch it live.....
JeighNeither@reddit
That one really annoys me, gen Z claiming we didn't watch that in class.
JeighNeither@reddit
And I was 21 mkay
Fokewe@reddit
It's more than a word. It's an attitude
EpicWheezes@reddit
Now THAT is the Gen X spirit.
Head-Proof7273@reddit
One might even say there's a certain aroma surrounding the attitude of folks between the ages of 13 and 19.
thinktankted@reddit
Yeah, this aggression will not stand, also the old guy said I could take whatever rug I want.
slade45@reddit
I just hit them with “Well that’s just like, your opinion man.”
GloriaToo@reddit
So you hit them with a boomer line?
slickrok@reddit
Is this a whoosh, dear ?
GloriaToo@reddit
Maybe. I guess they needed an /s if they were ironically quoting a boomer. I don't think they were though.
slickrok@reddit
It's a movie quote, hion. Very much not boomer
GloriaToo@reddit
I know what it is, sweetheart.
slade45@reddit
Would appear to be.
BrennaClove@reddit
“You’re not wrong, Walter, you’re just an a$$hole!”

yerguyses@reddit
Careful man there's a beverage here!
Bluepilgrim3@reddit
That must be exhausting.
her-royal-blueness@reddit
A shrug stereotyped us too lol. It is what it is.
MWoolf71@reddit
A Boomer supervisor once threatened to write me up at work for insubordination for a shoulder shrug. He Boomed himself out of a job and his marriage when he got caught with an intern. Boomers gotta Boom. They can’t help themselves.
her-royal-blueness@reddit
We were called lazy with no work ethic by boomers, among other things when we were younger and forced to live in their world. For me, it was refreshing when the younger generations started coming of age and expressing themselves. Their sheer numbers forced boomers to pay attention. And thankfully I think more like the younger generation than I ever did with boomers.
MWoolf71@reddit
I’ve known some Boomers who are absolutely convinced that their Millenial can do no wrong. Struggling in school? The teacher’s fault. Can’t keep a job? Their boss is a moron…or jealous of their brilliance. Give me Gen Z any day. I work in higher Ed and college kids for the most part are pretty chill.
flonky_guy@reddit
Wow, that was not my genZ higher Ed experience at all. We work with a few different colleges in our area and regularly get together to kvetch about how incredibly high maintenance these kids are.
I mean, most kids are chill, but I've had whole classes refuse projects that they thought were "oppressive" and seen lecturers reduced to tears over constant shifting access requests. My school lost a Native American lecturer because a student accused her of being a colonialist for requiring them to adhere to the community agreement the students had demanded she sign at the beginning of the semester. I could go on and on about the insane demands made of our extremely liberal, queer, bipoc, touchy feely school to be even more radically inclusive, and it's not just one cohort it's every successive class that comes in.
feralgraft@reddit
You get a lot of millenials struggling in school just now?
MWoolf71@reddit
No-I guess I didn’t phrase that well.
Spiritual-Mood-1116@reddit
Nah, Boomers aren't paying attention.
JeighNeither@reddit
That's what I'm saying. GenX has more in common with GenZ than Millennials, they just don't care much about anything that happened before their birthdates.
her-royal-blueness@reddit
Oh I care. I just was overruled by boomer’s sheer numbers every single time. But I feel like we can have more in common with the younger generations. I do, at least.
JeighNeither@reddit
No I meant Gen Z having a problem recognizing anything that came before them.
ahutapoo@reddit

PublikSkoolGradU8@reddit
This is such a boomer thing to complain about.
BigWave96@reddit
Slight correction - Gen Jones is between, but overlaps, those two. Gen Jones spans from 1954-1965. I was born in '63 so I have much more in common with the GenX crowd than with someone born in the 40's.
That said, I completely agree with you. Some younger people scream out "Boomer" to any adult doing something that their entitled young selves don't like. The economy - Boomers fault; Can't afford a house - Boomers fault; Student loan debt- yep.
As a wise man from the Bronx once said, "We didn't start the fire"
HungarianHoney@reddit
Boomers ABUSED me, people!!
Retired_AFOL@reddit
And, they want to blame all the things wrong In their life on Boomers.
Jefafa326@reddit
they call anyone older than them a Boomer
-Morning_Coffee-@reddit
There is no room for hurt feelings on the Internet.
In public “go fuck yourself” is the correct response.
Icy_Distance8205@reddit
You’re right a boomer would never say that, they’re more like “has anyone seen my child from my first marriage?”
Head-Proof7273@reddit
A Boomer would also say, "Too bad my son was in a car accident last night and is now wheelchair bound! I needed him to cut the lawn this weekend!"
Coyote65@reddit
When necessary I like to go with the lengthier - "How about you run along and play a nice game of go fuck yourself" - Starting out full of enthusiasm and ending with the 'go fuck yourself' in a flat tone that's completely unconcerned about how that might end up working out for them.
BlueAndMoreBlue@reddit
I prefer “go forth and discover with vigor” — tends to confuse people and makes me look like the nerd that I am
Venadito666@reddit
This is a gem! Borrowing with much gratitude 🙏🏼
addage-@reddit
Oh man the younger gens do not know how to process that at all.
-Morning_Coffee-@reddit
I can’t imagine the implied threat of violence will go over well.
ThatOneDudeFromIowa@reddit
I love that phrase. It's the be all and end all of conversation stoppers. The last time I used it, I had a friend who I was sick of their shit. All I had to say was, "well, whatever. you can go fuck yourself" it works well, he hasn't bothered me in months.

Ok_Sundae2107@reddit
I think to some of them, the term "boomer" refers to anyone they perceive to be old -- which could be 35!. So, ostensibly, a Millennial could be a boomer to them.
-Morning_Coffee-@reddit
I definitely have boomer energy. I remember the first time I saw someone rent movies by mail.
“That’ll never catch on.”
Ok_Sundae2107@reddit
When Starbucks came to Miami, I said "who the hell is going to pay $5 for a cup of coffee in this heat?!?" Boy, was I wrong!

brezhnervouz@reddit
There's a reason that Starbucks crashed and burned in Australia lol
Htiarw@reddit
Born in 1965 so often thought I was a boomer.
But really Early GenX grew up with both the old and new.

-Morning_Coffee-@reddit
Technically right is the best kind of right.
InnerAside5636@reddit
As a teacher, I hear every generation, including ours, call every generation older than themselves a boomer as a pejorative all the time. I have even used it myself (silently, of course) occasionally when dealing with a brain farting, self-involved boomer coworker. Right now, on r/boomersbeingfools, there is a new post about our subreddit GenX being boomers. Whatever, that's just like their opinion, man.
Icy_Distance8205@reddit
Let x = boomer.
Thedustyfurcollector@reddit
Ha! When I got divorced in my mid-30s I used to say I was older than dirt!
hhmmn@reddit
I'm with you - boomer is an insult intended for old people and nothing to do with generations. And if we're honest, can too struggle to distinguish age with younger generations
Powerpoppop@reddit
I'm 60, barely GenX, and nobody has ever called me a Boomer. I don't think most of my co-workers, who range from 22 to 65, view me this way. Seems like most of the Boomer issues boil down to people being jerks.
attaboy_stampy@reddit
Yeah, this. I mean, you get someone sub-30 calling you a boomer, and if you get all "Um, excuse me, I'm 4 years too young to be in the boomer class thank you very much," I could see them being "Hey I don't need to differentiate between you old fucks who were born before the internet. Go cry over missing your Ataris and moan about drinking out of garden hoses over on your "When MTV Played Music" facebook page cause I could give a shit."
Ok_Sundae2107@reddit
It not just the inaccurate reference, but its usually meant to be a dig: "Ok, Boomer." Like, "Whatever, old man!"
attaboy_stampy@reddit
Yeah that's what I'm saying. You call them on it, it's like, hey you're all a bunch of old SOBS anyway, it doesn't matter who was president or whatever the fuck.
Tsurgai@reddit
Calling them out on it is exactly the boomer behavior they're referring to though.
attaboy_stampy@reddit
It's the circle of goddam life.
EvidenceBasedSwamp@reddit
"never trust anyone over 30" is from our parent's generation
ynfive@reddit
Well with life expectancy back then 30 was already over the hill.
NoDragonfruit7115@reddit
Exactly this. Boomer just means doing old person shit.
Not understand that is, believe it or not, being a boomer.
According_Tackle_404@reddit
I'm 27 and my younger bro will sometimes call me boomer lol
addage-@reddit
That may be true but it also just validates some of them are complete idiots.
DreadY2K@reddit
Yeah, as a Gen Z, "boomer" is for anyone vaguely old who acts like a boomer. I've definitely called some millenials boomers before, not yet to my fellow Gen Zs, but I'm sure it'll happen eventually.
Ereaser@reddit
I'm 32 (Millennial but saw this on r/all) but mostly call people boomer if they are bad with technology or have old school views. It's become more of a synonym for someone who's "not with the time".
ColombianData@reddit
Well, 35! Is a lot of years, so it is old.
jiddinja@reddit
I disagree. I believe it has to do with not drowning in college debt, unrelenting surveillance, having better odds at home ownership, etc. Millennials and Zoomers have it far worse than we did and they choose to lump us together with Boomers because of it. That way, when enough of the Boomers have died off they can steamroll Gen X with massive taxes and laws that completely screw us, making us pay for the Boomer's crimes against younger generations. We never had the power to alter what the Boomers did, but we'll be made to pay for what they did because they'll all be dead, and somewhere deep down the Millennials and Gen Z know that. Lumping us in with Boomers will assuage their consciences when they make our golden years a living hell.
SpecificJaguar5661@reddit
But you can feel good when you pay those extra taxes, knowing that you’re not leaving subsequent generations to hold the bag. Unlike the boomers who took all of your wealth and basically took cruises in their golden years.
sassypants450@reddit
Lol this is definitely true. My 32 year old friend got called boomer. Ridiculous
CleverNickName-69@reddit
I'm fine with them pretending that GenX doesn't exist. I'm used to being ignored.
I'm not okay with being lumped in with Boomers.
KrustenStewart@reddit
I feel like there are a lot of people who just call everyone over 40 boomer and under 40 millennials and it’s really annoying
JasterMereel42@reddit
The oldest Millennials are now 44.
KrustenStewart@reddit
No I know that, but it just seems like a good chunk of society still wants to label any younger person or anyone in their 20s as millennials when they’re probably actually gen z
Important-Dig-2312@reddit
Oldest gen Z is 27
orthopod@reddit
And don't forget that old is 15 years older than you are. Same with young.

Ummm im 31 a baby millennial born in the 90s but still a millennial
KrustenStewart@reddit
Ok. I’m talking about older people who just use millennial as a blanket term for all younger people who aren’t always necessarily millennials
analogpursuits@reddit
And I happen to think GenZ is pretty cool, overall. My kid is GenZ and he and his friends are really awesome people. Genuinely kind, thoughtful, conscientious, and they're kind of pulling away from social media addiction, in favor of in person interaction. Not all GenZ are like this, but I'm largely impressed with the ones I've met.
RevolutionarySpot721@reddit
I am a millenial, i personally find Gen X, Gen Y and Gen Z pretty similar (there are some young men drifting into the Andrew Tate rabid hole and Gen Z dating does not seem cool because of this), but other than that those three Gens are pretty similar, which makes sense as all three struggled with economic hardships in different ways, while boomers and silent gens did not in the same terms.
Important-Dig-2312@reddit
I think everybody is starting to move away from social media in fairness. Gen Z is also the ones that started the tide pod challenge, 60% want to be influencers(likely the younger ones) and they'll be recording in the gum and practically every aspect of their lives. Yes they're moving away from Facebook and stuff like that but they're on tik too like crazy which isn't classified as (social media) when it totally is.
MagikSundae7096@reddit
Things will change when they get older. There'll be a new generation of people that are the narcissist because they'll be younger and prettier and then, as people age out and realize there is more to life than this. Hey you'll see it switch. It's just a matter of time.Another ten years or so.
pirate_per_aspera@reddit
Remember the internet before the great social media invasion? We had it best w the early internet imo. Forums, email lists, no bot armies.
My daughter is gen Z & has also moved away from social media. Does some fandom twitter stuff & family fb but that’s it. Everything else is in discord servers w friends, etc.
TrainingParty3785@reddit
And the GenX had Boomer parents.
analogpursuits@reddit
Yup, entitled dimwits. We are salty from suffering a lifetime of their Main Character Syndrome. They took nothing seriously so we had to do it for them. We thought. They didn't.
The_Wild_Bunch@reddit
My kids are Gen-Z too. They lump millennials in with boomers. They don't care for either group. Their grandparents are silent generation and they're fine with that generation. My youngest son is on Tiktok, but nothing else. The other 2 aren't on social media at all. They all are very social, well informed about the world around them and mostly love the same music us Gen-Xers grew up with. In fact, I'm driving my youngest to Nashville this fall to see Nine Inch Nails. My only complaint is they spend too much time on video games. Though I am teaching the 17 year old how to work on cars and fix things things around the house. These kids of Z generation will be all right.
analogpursuits@reddit
Yeah I took mine to see TooL last year (well I also took him in my belly when I was preggy with him) 😁. And one of his favorite bands is Foo Fighters. He loves our music! He is wise and awesome beyond his years. So are his friends. I'm ok with that group being leaders one day. They're going to do some good shit.

They are definitely leaders!

Call her a “geriatric millennial” if you want to sleep on the couch. Or an “elder millennial” if you just want the side eye.

JasterMereel42@reddit
We can make her an honorary Gen Xer.
craiginphoenix@reddit
We can make her a GenX'er and then anyone who freaks out at being called a Boomer loses their GexX status and becomes a Boomer because they are so old they can no longer take a joke and let stupid stuff slide.

Mitch_Darklighter@reddit
I honestly think we've hit a point where Boomer is a state of mind and its associated set of behaviors as much as it is a generation. I've known Gen Xers who were effectively Boomers in 2003. It even seems like some Alphas and Zoomers are really just Baby Baby Boomers.
KrustenStewart@reddit
I think you’re right. It’s like Karen. Being a boomer is like being a Karen. You can be named Karen and not act like a Karen and you can be born a baby boomer and not act like a boomer.
Longjumping-Fox154@reddit
That’s exactly it. They don’t even know the facts about the origin of the term and the classification. The only requirements for them to call someone that are that the person is older than them (maybe by just 10 years) and they disagree with any observation being made by them.
RevolutionarySpot721@reddit
As a millenial yes, even though I find Gen X, Gen Millenial and Gen Z being very very similar and actual boomers and silent gen the odd ones out. Some people over 40 are millenials, some are Gen X and some are in fact boomers, and some are even Silent Gen. Hell my grandma is Greatest Gen. (b. 1927)

Tanooki-san@reddit
This. And half the time the people shouting "Boomaaaer!!!!" are acting way more boomery than any boomer ive ever known. It's become just another rando, meaningless insult, like the word "slut." Nowadays I tend to out of hand auto-ignore any comments by anyone using the word.

anyone defining themselves by an advertising cohort is pretty foolish.
KrustenStewart@reddit
I don’t think it’s necessarily just an advertising cohort, as labeling generations has been used for other reasons besides just advertising, but I do agree it can be somewhat silly to generalize a whole bunch people and say they’re all the same.

It's kind of our whole thing.
oO0Kat0Oo@reddit
If you really want to know why, I'm happy to answer, as a Millennial.
I really feel like you guys don't really want the answer though or you aren't going to like the answer. It's totally fine. Sometimes people just need to vent without wanting an answer.
oldguy77s@reddit
true though, X is a completely different Gen with different mindsets, most of us own businesses now, and invent things out of boredom, and play X games =D
Generally in my experience the Boomers worked the grind and depended on the Govmnt for everything else.
3rdProfile@reddit
GenX: in case of emergency, break glass. If not, leave me alone.
Mt4Ts@reddit
I think it only bothers me because my mom is a Boomer. Being lumped into my parents’ generation just does not feel right.
Plays_in_Mud_Puddles@reddit
I hear what you are saying, but Boomers are defined above as being born between 1946-1964 (18 years!), so there are plenty of older Boomers with kids who are considered Boomers, too. I personally like the Jones Generation distinction because my parents were born in the mid-late 1950s and are waaaay different from the early Boomers!
LordoftheSynth@reddit
The same thing is true of Gen X. I'm late X, there are things where I have more in common with older Millennials (i.e. technology literate) than I do with my Gen X elders. But I have the Gen X attitude and touchstones.
It drives me up the wall when Millennials try to call me a Xennial. Nope. Way more in common culturally with someone born in '68 than in '88.
swimt2it@reddit
r/generationjones is the answer!
Smove@reddit
Mind blown! Thanks! I just learned that my parents are pre-Boomer.
Mt4Ts@reddit
My parents are the start of the Boomers, I’m a late Xer. We don’t have a lot in common.
Leafeay@reddit
I have the opposite issue. My parents were Greatest and Silent gens respectively, but I have a Boomer sibling and tons of cousins who are too. What is weird about being GenX in this mix is that most of them are all so old compared to me I feel like a child around them, even now. Getting called "the kid" all the time even once you are over 40, let alone over 50 is pretty bizarre, and annoying too.
Zen_Hydra@reddit
It would be a mistake to ever show weakness (i.e. taking any notice whatsoever) in front of the young. They can smell blood.
Aloof indifference is the uniform of our generation.
Jaesha_MSF@reddit
Considering my parents are both 80, I strongly agree.
Not-A-SoggyBagel@reddit
It really doesn't, it feels unsettling. I'd rather be forgotten than mixed in with them.
Papa-Cinq@reddit
I agree. Does it really matter ??? What someone calls me doesn’t define who I am. Call me a boomer, a Gen Xer, a Millennial “he”, “her” “they”, “them” …. I couldn’t care any less. I know who I am and so does my family. What society thinks they know about me doesn’t have an emotional influence on me.
TheCrimdelacrim@reddit
To Millennials, Gen X are the younger uncles/aunts that were cool growing up but then got boring when they aged/had kids. Mostly you were cool, but then you succumbed to the boomer life
pparhplar@reddit
Ah....no. somebody drew an imaginary line. '65...the cutting edge.
tails99@reddit
I don't know about this. It seems my Gen X managers are cosplaying as boomers but failing. So it is a double fail of actual boomer-style incompetence and the sociopathy that goes along with knowing that they are empty suit failures.
ForwardLavishness320@reddit
The thing I can barely understand, is that being in the real world, you realize how small our generation is?
Just me?

It’s silly I think calling people gen z or millennials. Don’t understand why it’s necessary but it doesn’t bother me. Whatever makes people sleep at night is okay with me and I’m apparently a boomer.
Eharmz@reddit
Nobody knows your age on here. If you are being called a boomer it's because you are saying boomer shit.
CleverNickName-69@reddit
This isn't about me specifically, it is about the way the whole society talks about GenX although they rarely talk about GenX.
For example, there was an article a week or two ago about how GenX and Millenials are different in the workplace.
Then if you actually read the article they just separated by Over 44 vs. Under 44. So yeah, they were lumping Boomers and GenX together and Millenials and GenZ together. It was horseshit.
Or when they talk about GenX retireing, but the oldest GenXers are turning 60 this year. GTFO, with that shit. The number of GenX who can retire early is tiny. The number of GenX who will work until they die is pretty large.
Eharmz@reddit
I agree GenX gets lumped in unfairly but OP did mention they were specifically upset about it on here. To which my comment still stands.

My husband was born in 1965, so he's technically Gen X. I call him a Boomer because he thinks like one. Some of the weirdest shit comes out of his brain! He's obsessed with cutting the grass and cares WAY too much about appearance (he has a bald spot on the back of his head and goes to very great lengths to cover it--even having a comb-over!). He reminisces about the show Archie Bunker and wishes people were still allowed to say the R-word and be racist to others openly! Ugh. He wasn't like this 20 years ago. The older he gets, the more Boomer-like he gets. I'm moving more toward acceptance of others (as long as their actions don't hurt others) and he's moving away from it. He's currently fussing at our 20 year old Autistic son because he wants to have his nails painted and his feet cleaned up/toes painted. I encourage this because at least he cares about how his feet smell and the health of his feet! My husband implies our son is gay and says he's ashamed to be seen with him. It's like I don't even know my husband anymore!

Miss_Getonyourknees@reddit
My kids call me a Boomer - it’s their way to say I am old and disconnected from the current life. I do not care, I feel young and beautiful and happy with the way I see the world 😄
NPC261939@reddit
Boomer goes beyond a specified age range, it's also very much a mindset. Anyone acting entitled, ignorant, or bitchy is a boomer to me.
lsp2005@reddit
It is a mindset. If you are repeatedly be called that, then check yourself before you wreck yourself.
bipolymale@reddit
100% this!!! if someone calls you Boomer its about your attitude and behavior, not your age
Significant_Ruin4870@reddit
Not necessarily. The term is thrown by some malcontents at anyone older than they that has something they don't have, or that has a differing opinion on absolutely anything. It's a knee-jerk rejection of anything that existed before they did. I have a lot of millennial friends and a fair few GenZ friends despite being certifiably old. They are great folks and they give me hope. But there are some I've worked with that quite sincerely hate an entire generation, hate hundreds of millions of people, as though all those millions could be painted with the same brush. And if you disagree with them they hate you too.

Where were you when Kennedy was assassinated?

Could you have gone to Woodstock?
Me: Sure if my socially conservative dad wanted to pack up the family station wagon with his wife and 3 young children and drive to back-of-beyond New York state to see a bunch of bands he probably either didn't like or didn't know existed.
Vietnam? Summer of Love? Duck and cover? Nope, too young.

PDub466@reddit
The thing that pisses me off most about being GenX is that, for like five minutes about 25 years ago people acknowledged us, usually as slackers. Then, we were ignored completely socially, politically and financially, and now that we are being acknowledged again it is to lump us in with boomers.
Thankfully for both adjacent generations, we are also the generation of not having any more fucks to give. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm late for latchkey.

Growing up in the 70's-80's. Having all that culture and music then...during truly the last plain and innocent way of living. And then BAM, into the 90's and it gets almost cooler. Growing up without the net and cell phones. Then living through all of it happening, not to mention making it happen, for better or worse (narrator: it became for the worse). But at the time? Hell yeah. We ruled the world...
I think it will be one of the best 'when I was a kid' lives to have ever lived...

Very well stated! On a side note, good luck to your Leafs. My Red Wings screwed the pooch for the ninth straight season.
_BELEAF_@reddit
Oooh, man. I am local!! Have lived in Michigan for 20 years now!
K, so...you had 25 straight years in the playoffs. Completely UNEQUALED in the entire history of professional sport. Four cups in about a dozen years. And my memories of high school hockey pools was consumed with nabbing the likes of Federov and Koslov and company to lead me to victory...
PLUS. We not only missed the playoffs for like 13 years...we've hence made the playoffs for nine straight years and won ONE FUCKING SERIES!! ONE!!! So you talking about your nine years has my face violently twitching about our last nine years...
Anyway. So we're bris of a kind, yeah? Sad hugs and shit. Get TF on this wagon if you are so inclined or dare (it's so treacherous, lol). And I'm 100% always pulling for the Wings!
PDub466@reddit
Oh, yeah for sure! I know the Leafs struggles to some degree. And I’m forever grateful for the Wings 25 year dynasty and the Cups that came with them. It just seems that since Mike Ilitch passed on and Chris took over, ownership doesn’t want to spend money. Stevie Y is taking a lot of heat but I don’t think it’s him.
As you said, sad hugs and whatnot!

Oh, we struggle. 25 years. 4 cups. Give me that and I could take another 50 years of nothing. Obvious jest, but I am getting long in the tooth. Only a few runs to show for it, besides some pretty wild in-person NHL stuff since I was a lad.
Ilitch was...the absolute best. SOoooo good for Detroit and Michigan. A wonderful philanthropist.
Stevie didn't inherit the Wings like he did the stacked Lightning. He'll get you guys there in time. Trouble is...you guys are doing what we did for 15 years, falling into the middle of everyone, with neither playoff appearances, nor high draft picks. Total doldrums. Worst place in sports to be.
Anyway. Hop along with us as we try to finally make something of ourselves...

It doesn't seem like 45-60 year olds are ignored. You may be overly fixated on generational labels- but I guess this is the right sub for that.
ArcadianDelSol@reddit
I was born in 1968 and I think I might qualify as an 'end game boomer' because my dad actually served in World War 2.
I come from this crazy line of people who lived to almost 100 and had children late.
My Grandmother remembered when cars were invented. My Great grandfather served in the Civil War.
I once paid for Ancestry.Com to track my family history and it went back to the American Revolution.
It only went back 6 marriages.
The good news is that Im not even middle-aged yet. ;)
Gret88@reddit
My family is also stretched out though not as much as yours! Only two generations on my dad’s side were born in the 20th century, my dad in the 30s and me in the 60s. My grandparents were 1890s and my daughter 2000s. My daughter told her teacher her great grandpa was in WW1 and her teacher “corrected” her, how quaint.

yeah, most people are stupid af. nobody works with a boomer because they are dead or retired 25 years ago. jfc, the baby boom was the result of ww2 ending in 1945.
Gret88@reddit
Hello I’m a boomer and only 62 so not retired.
HottKarl79@reddit
You mean you don't like being lumped in with the generation that screams the loudest about "pull(ing) yourself up by yer bootstraps" and all that other Rugged Individualist bullshit, while simultaneously being the most whiny, hyper-entitled, spoiled children of postwar privilege ever known to mankind? That bothers you? Come on, man; it's not like they reaped every possible benefit from an unprecedented economic boom spurred by well-regulated commerce and industry, only to wholeheartedly support stripping and scrapping every last regulation and protection afforded the working class and pulled the ladder up behind them! You act like being a boomer would make someone annoying; like the type of person who sits on their phone at the Corvette meet and tells young people they can't afford a home because they drink too much Starbucks and they'll get a better job if they put on a suit and go door to door handing out their resumes!
Emergency_Map7542@reddit
Young people just use its loosely to refer to someone older they think is being a douche.

Boomer is a behavior. I have GenX college friends who are not technically "boomers" but certainly have the "hey kid get off my lawn!" attitudes.

dschinghiskhan@reddit
Those people are wrong, though.
mbtankersley@reddit
But originally, if one was born in 1960 onward to 1980, one was considered Green-X. It changed when boomers wanted to claim Obama as one of them. Suddenly, Gen-X became a generation of only 15 years, when every other generation gets 20.
idkmybffphill@reddit
Boomer has beautifully evolved into a comedic insult and a assumed to be okay spite intended insult really getting st anyone who is either 30+ years old or reference’s any type of society enjoyment from the 80’s or later.
Boomer, much like cracker, even when someone applies it with spite and hate, most likely won’t ever be seen as derogatory so it gets 1) a free pass by most and 2) it’s so dumb no one wants to complain about it a majority of the time
motorcyclecowboy007@reddit
What I hate about millennials is that they blame the boomers or genx as a whole for everything they claim is wrong with today. We were not all to blame no different than they (millennials) are not to blamed as a whole for everything. The generation was boomer, gen x, or whatever. However, they were not connected to one brain cell that ruled all. So when you blame someone from that gen., call them out for what their beliefs are and not the generation.
fuzzysocks@reddit
(Millennial with gen x parents) You guys are pretty cool. Young people with boomer behavior hate being called boomers, too. Boomer is officially a mindset rather than an age.
DeeCentre@reddit
The trouble with nowadays is everyone has to have a fucking label and/or an identity slapped on them. I've spent my entire life avoiding that shit. I am 'of' a generation, I am not it. Call me what you like, but fuck off and do it elsewhere out of my way. 😄
PfedrikTheChawg@reddit
I was born in March of '81 so not GenX, but my GenZ employees call me a boomer. I just think they're dumb. Not because they're GenZ, but because they just talk out the sides of their necks like goons.

Precisely. I was born in 1964, routinely see people who must be my age making real Karens and Kevins of themselves and I silently think "what boomers." It's pedantic to consider it age, it's that old crusty attitude.
karenw@reddit
As a GenXer named Karen, I'm just gonna keep doing my punk rock thing into old age.
Leafeay@reddit
Hehe. Not all boomers are created equal.
I work at a non profit that provides dme and critical services to older adults and disabled. Today in our donation center where people drop things off for others in need, a lady came in, gonna say looked about 70... maybe 75 tops. She said she was a caregiver for her older brother. She was tatted up one side and down the other, from neck to ankles. She was wearing an oversized sweatshirt that had "GREEN DAY" slapped across the front (yes in all caps), over torn jeans, boots. Chains on the back pocket to what looked like a faux wallet. Hair was party shaved down on left side, other side super short too. She looked like she just stepped out of a Sex Pistols show or was on the way to one, lol.
As she was walking back to her car after unloading her donations, I could not resist and said "hey! love the shirt," she immediately cracked a smile, punched up a fist and said, "thanks! punk is NOT dead and neither am I yet!"
Was one of my best days at work yet 😂
karenw@reddit
This makes me so happy!

Hell yeah.

I know no one really every agrees on the years. But 1964 is still gen x??
This is probably just the mid 30s millenial in me speaking, but to me, gen X were the folks about 15 years older than us, so now around 50s, early 60s maybe. I wouldn't expect someone old enough to be my grandparent to be just one generation away.
But yeah, boomer has turned into more of a description of attitude than actual age.
oudcedar@reddit
You are a boomer
remoteworker9@reddit
Yep, the older Xers in particular are getting Boomery.
finfan44@reddit
That was my thought. If you act like a boomer, you're a boomer no matter when you were born. I've had students call me a boomer a few times and I deserved it, made me rethink my opinion.

Exactly. Boomer is a mindset and attitude more than anything.

He freaked out a little and said he was "just kidding" and that "ladies should go first"...I smiled, thanked him and went into the store... he kept muttering, "But I was just kidding..." several times after we entered the store.
I guess he was hoping that I was going to go all crazy Karen on his ass...bro, I am Gen X; I don't give a fuck.

Agree with catch all term. I use it for anyone with an anachronistic view of any topic. Love using it on someone younger than me. I think for the people that are getting triggered by it being used on them, maybe considering the context for what it was used and evaluate.
EvidenceBasedSwamp@reddit
I used to be triggered by it, but I have now embraced it. I use it with my friend. "Hey look, a reference only boomers get"
major_tom5656@reddit
Yeah I think it’s more an attitude and because so many Gen x’ers have that attitude, we’re getting lumped in.
Pinkkorn69@reddit
This! The amount of Gen Xers I know that have started using some of the terms like "you just need to pull yourself up by the bootstraps" or "no one wants to work anymore". Or my favorite was "Maybe if you took that metal out of your face and stopped getting tattoos people would take you seriously".... like WTF. My boomers parents don't say any of that BS but there is a group of Gen X in my town that's just lost the plot.
Myriad_Kat_232@reddit
I'm genx with a boomer parent and one technically born during WWII. There's a HUGE difference between their values and ours.
I do see a difference between the experiences of older Gen X ers and younger ones. Someone who is 48 had a very different childhood than someone who's 58. I'm right in the middle so I can relate.

simonk1905@reddit
You need to stop caring.
The whole generation split is a marketing exercise to allow people to define themselves by what they are not. We should not and never should believe that people act a certain way just because of their age.
I myself have many boomer traits and my daughters are always quick to point it out and we laugh about it too. Most of the music I like could be considered boomer music. But just like everyone else I also embrace a lot of what younger generations love and also their behaviours.
Let them say what they want. My question to you is why do you care so much.
ohmaint@reddit
As kids when someone called us a name or said something shitty we used to say " sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me". We had the right idea back then and we were much happier because of it. I get tired of the "boomer" crap too and generally tell them to " go f@#$ themselves" and walk away thinking of ways to ruin their day!
OM_Trapper@reddit

kyote42@reddit
GenX was the first generation that had to deal with Baby Boomers. Being called a Boomer is irritating. Not only because we had to deal with Baby Boomers first, but it's just inaccurate.
Damn those inaccuracies! If you're gonna insult someone, at least get the verbiage right!!
HootieRocker59@reddit
I mean, the parents of the Boomers complained about them a lot, too.
BigBlueWolf@reddit
Yep. Even though my mother was late Silent Gen, lots of my friends had Boomer parents. And they weren't called Boomers; they were called the "'Me' Generation". And they certainly lived up to that title.
SitamoiaRose@reddit
Same as my mother. I was also raised alongside Greatest generation grandparents. I now have a young millennial son. The son and the mother do not understand each others lives or view points at all. They care about each other and enjoy time the time they spend together but find it hard to understand where they each speak from.
I don’t try to bridge the gap as I only get caught in the middle. My son assumes I know nothing of the world nor do I understand him. I think sometimes he believes I’m over halfway to senility 🙄
Fabulous_Visual4865@reddit
At least 8 other people were dumb enough to up vote this. Gen X was in the boomers nutsacks. How were they the first that had to deal with them?
BigBlueWolf@reddit
I'm early GenX ('68), my mother was a late Silent Gen ('41) and had me at 29 years old. Most GenX'ers had Boomer parents.
Of course they weren't called Boomers back then. They were called the "Me" generation. And we grew up sick of their shit.
Fabulous_Visual4865@reddit
What makes you think the people that had to deal with your mom for the first 29 years of her life were stoked on her shit?
two_awesome_dogs@reddit
They’re just trying to use it as a putdown. They don’t really know what a boomer is or the difference between that and GX. Willful ignorance.
Kuftubby@reddit
This post is super ironic given the fact GenX has been labeling anyone younger than them as Millennials for the past 20 years regardless of age.

Ghostman_Jack@reddit
90% of the time when the younger generation refers to someone as a “boomer” they’re referring the the crotchety old assholes that refuse to get with the times/even attempt to act like society has moved on past the “good old days”
A lot of Gen Xers are basically just “Boomer Lite”
Being a “boomer” is as much an age thing as it is a mindset. You can be old and realize the world has moved on and get with it. You don’t have to understand it all or like it. But you do need to accept the world you grew up with is find and it’s not coming back no matter how much you bitch about it.
parke415@reddit
What you describe also applies to generations before and after Boomers. I’m a Gen-Y who belittles new trends and youth culture. There are Gen-Z who are now doing the same.

fatrockstar@reddit
If they want to use "Boomer" as a catch-all for "old," that's their mistake. I'm tired of being provoked because somebody wants to get a rise out of me - they should just say "old" if that's what they mean.
They weren't exposed to failure early enough and their survival instincts are taking longer to develop. Add the arrogance of youth and you have a bunch of internet randos looking for someone to blame. I'm just going to let them. I don't have time for this.

I’m 1977, my husband is 1968. We work together and with a huge age range of other people from early 20’s to mid-60’s. I never heard anyone call either of us boomers, though I HAVE been grouped in with “the old people” to my face and without a thought. We do work with a pretty fantastic group though and age is not much of a consideration. You either excel at the job, or you aren’t going to be there long. Capacity to work well with everyone in the department is a necessity.
I’m not particularly exposed to many young people outside of work though. My siblings and portion of my friends are older millennials, most of my friends fall in-between my husband and I in age, and my husband’s siblings are boomers.

I get called a boomer all the time. It doesn't help that I missed being a boomer by days. Plus all my siblings are boomers, so I've developed some of the mannerisms and some that are Gen X. I used to get asked the infamous question, "where were you when Kennedy was shot". "Dur, I was a zygote in my mom's ovaries". I've found most people don't get the sarcastic answer.
Significant_Ad1256@reddit
I'm a millennial and I get called boomer regularly. Boomer just doesn't exclusively refer to baby boomers anymore, but to anyone that is deemed "old" in the eyes of the speaker. No need to be offended by words that mean nothing.
maddog2271@reddit
I think this is mainly happening with the early X basically thise born around 1965-69 or so. No negativity from me but I think the cultural zeitgeist kind of puts the “real X” being 70-80 But I am not trying to dispute that. And also, there are a ton of early X people who carry forward a lot of bad boomer behaviors; again, not all, but enough to cause early models some problems, like the first couple years of a BMW model run.
bobbyspankster@reddit
the general demographic designation is designed to group people who up in certain time periods and also sharing a bunch of cultural experiencs. It doesn’t need tto follow the ages exactly. It’s that many other folks shared those experiences has it’s own qualities—none if things apply to everyone of course.
I think the state/city/neighborhood and whether the person spent a lot if time hanging out with older siblings, cousins, etc. did experience more if the things that happened in the early boomer years.
It’s fun to think about and notice, but
this is a general comment h. Demographers who study such matters probably have more to say!!

If you don’t want to be labeled as a boomer, don't act like a Boomer. I too am late GenX. The term "Boomer" did originally refer to the Baby Boomer generation, but like all the rest of the English language it has evolved. The term "Boomer" is now used to refer to an older person of any generation that exhibits certain levels of self-entitlement, over bearing self-importance, incapacity to change with the times, and the narcissistic rage to complain that socially, most younger people have different and possibly better ideas than they did at that age.
(And yes there are Millennial "Bommers" too.)
ComeWithMe-429@reddit

This is also derogatory for certain mindsets as well. Do you believe the younger generations are just lazy? Minimum wage is acceptable for any jobs? We're not saying enough to afford basic necessities?
If you answered yes to any of these and have expressed this opinion before being called a "boomer", that's why.

It's simple for me, I see someone acting like a boomer I call them a boomer. That person's actual generation doesn't matter to me.
Banded_Watermelon@reddit
To be fair, we don’t magic into a different kind of personality type because a generational deadline changes, in this example from 1964-1965. Some Gen Xers are more Boomer-like than others, just like some of us that were born at the other end are a little more Millennial. A 15 year span is a long time. While I might have wished to be one of the teenagers that looked like Pat Benetar or Molly Ringwald on my school bus, I was in the first few years of elementary school then. We likely don’t have all that much in common now either, besides a fondness for the pop culture of the era.

Kids are using the term boomer to mean "anyone older than me". Once I realized that they're just stupid and don't know what the word means, I stopped being annoyed by it.
paullbart@reddit
When I left school there was a recession, unemployment was reasonably high. 20 years after that when I had a young family there was a global economic crisis. What I get sick of is the assumption that when I left school I was handed the keys to my shiny new house and car, a booming career and all the opportunities I could handle. I had to make my own opportunities starting from the bottom, buy my own car and had to pay to learn how to drive. Housing was still expensive then, but managed to make my way up the property ladder by buying my first shit hole and living on fuck all for quite a while. I’m now in a good position, but that’s nearly 40 years down the track. I say to younger people, if you could instantly have everything I now have, and all you had to do was give up 40 years of your life, would you do it?
freeman_hugs@reddit

The good news is that Gen X is about ten to fifteen years away from running the world.

I was stunned when I found out people just use that term to refer to anyone older than them. Are they not at all curious what it actually means? Or do they just think anyone older than them is so ancient that they might go boom and explode? It doesn’t say a lot for younger folks if they can’t even be bothered to do a little research on their insults.

There was a 20 year old kid at my work who always called me "Boomer". His mom worked there too, and was friends with the big boss. So, he got away with a lot. He was a lazy fuck. If you go by the rigid years, you're dumb. My dad was born in '60, and is as early gen-X as it gets. My mother in law was born 2 months before my dad, and she is an old-lady boomer, equally as old with two completely different attitudes. I was born in 84 and I identify as gen-X, I gel in much better with people a little older than me and remember my entire 3rd year on this planet, I don't care about the same things even early millennials do.

As a gamer, the term "boomer shooter" drives me nuts, mostly because those are Gen X games! That's what I was playing, not my boomer parents who wondered why I was saying all my time. My parents were playing pong. Gen X is the flyover state of generations.

A few years back, I worked with a young man who pulled the “Okay, Boomerline on me. I quickly smirked and clarified to him that how DARE he, I was Gen X. He said it didn’t matter really when I was born, that it was addressing my behavior. So I rolled my eyes at him, and as I turned away I grumbled under my breath… “Okay, Boomer”.
I heard him squelch such a scream of frustration as his own snarky remark was sent back at him with better delivery. 😁

These are the adults that have to do spend $8 on a cup of coffee and detail every second of their what they call lives for the world because they have no self worth and require the approval of others and make noise about the rebuild of capitalism and society on devices built by basically slaves using services that only exist due to shared people trying to get ahead financially. They are entitled, spoiled, and useless. The only way they'll ever have value to humanity is if Soylent green becomes a thing. To be fair (and this is from a millennial), the term “Boomer” isn’t as literal as it used to be anymore. It doesn’t mean someone is calling you a Baby Boomer by birth.
I get called boomer sometimes too. “Boomer” these days is a generic term to describe a behavior or thought process that an old person would have. Someone who is disconnected from the younger world. A Boomer can be Boomer, a Millenial can be Boomer, hell, a literal Gen Z can be a Boomer if they say or think like an old person disconnected from the younger cultures.
The term Boomer is not literal anymore. The fact that you don’t understand this (or haven’t caught on yet), also makes you a Boomer (hehe).

As much as it irks me to be called that...Indiana...let it go...
Every generation is going to rebel against the older generations and find a way to "let them know they're different".
Our parents generation did it...the Generation Jones's(had to look up what they were even called...), the Xers, and the millennials too, just like how Gen Z is doing it now, and Gen Alpha will do it to them.
And you can never really "fix" this problem because it's always an uninformed(they're just too young to understand at the time) population that will get it when they're older. But by then, it will be a new generation taking up the mantle of "How many times do we have to teach you this lesson old man?!".
Best to just let it go. The more you react to it, the more likely they are to keep saying it, regardless of what it originally meant.
Niven42@reddit
I joined r/generationjones for those people born on the cusp (1964-1965). Had to leave - Boomers were coming in, hijacking the group. "Oh, I finally found a place where I fit in! I'm not a Boomer! Ha ha!"

Honestly, I’ve never been called a boomer. Possibly because I don’t sit around and blame all the problems of the world on millennials. We share our own amount of blame for the state of the world, whether we care to admit it or not. We like to blame the boomers and the millennials, but we stood back and did a lot of nothing to try and change things, especially as we got older. So we deserve at least a little of the criticism we get from other generations. If they care to admit we exist at all.
Premodonna@reddit
I get called a boomer once and I shot back my parents are boomers and they need to study up the generational dates. However we get called boomers because the mindset of some in the GenX group is turning into their parents. Sadly that means we are not viewed as cool slackers anymore. When people are three or four generations younger. And don’t have anyone to teach them etiquettes and why we call generations by names. Then it’s not that hard to imagine we get thousands and thousands of echo chambers and if not countered correctly. We get these stupid mix ups. But then again, if they are not bothered to know the difference. Then why do you get bothered about being called like that. I know we Xers called our own grandparents this. But they heard it from us without any context. Usually because we Xers told them it was between you and your elders. I was just like that. Until I literally saw the changes in my younger millennial sister. She began copying my ways as a joke and it got stuck. Now I’m her boomer although I wasn’t one in the first place.
Naive-Beekeeper67@reddit
Frankly? People who say its about being entitled? Are very wrong. The most "entitled" i cone across are those about 25 to 40 yrs. Always. To me its an AGE thing. Thats the age group that give off the biggest self entitlement vibe. By far.

I’ve spent enough time on this sub to see enough older Gen-Xers have some very Boomerish type attitudes and viewpoints. One guy was complaining about seat warmers and other technology in his car and lots of others joined it. They said theh prefer it when their balls shrivel up in the cold. I kid you not. For this younger Gen-Xer, that is some Boomer shit.
Naive-Beekeeper67@reddit
Got zero to do wotg age mate! We had a car with heated seats and one of our teens. whinged about it. And i have heard people of ALL ages get annoyed with various technologies. Liking or not liking various things and whinging about it has nothing to do with ones age. Just our personalities and what we seem to like & not like.

I had to explain to my Psychologist that GenX are largely the children of the Silent Generation, and Boomers are largely the children of the Greatest Generation. I'm a millennial and I find gen x pretty cool. They're old, but they're not "boomer" old, and don't come with a boomer mentality that pisses me off so much. Unlike us millennials, you're not wallowing in misery and depression somehow, but somehow have a sense of acceptance with how life's become and I wish I could adapt to that mindset. You just run out of fucks to give, or do you actually make peace with the chaos around you?

There's nothing you can do. The terms in this area have devolved completely. To the kids, anyone 39 and up is a Boomer because they think the word means "old and set in their ways."
To the actual Boomers who are aware of the internet, about 75% of them have forgotten the term applies to them and now think it means, "stupid old guy," so they just get upset when people name their generation properly.

My dad was born in 1941 FFS, he was a few years away from being a boomer himself. I think it’s attitude as well as birth year and month that makes you a boomer or not. I’m a boomer, born right in the middle of the boomer generation. A couple times of year I speak to a high school class about my career before I retired. I really enjoyed it. I’m not sure if they’re Gen A or Gen Z however. Last time I spoke to the class, they said they were all Gen A. This time they said they were Gen Z. Either way, they ask intelligent questions and seem interested in what’s going on in the world. I like them. I haven’t detected any negative boomer vibes, but I make an effort to connect with them by asking them to interpret some Gen A/Z slang at the outset. We’re not that different. I do get it, though that they have reason to resent boomers for the world. They have been left to deal with. I’m very sympathetic to that. I wish we would’ve done better.

Not sure if I'm allowed to speak as I'm 26 but boomer as a term has evolved to be anyone who's out of touch and/or not wanting to learn. In particular to science and technology. Not as much as a birth year.
For example I say "I'm such a boomer with phones" as I don't really use it for anything but texting or calls. Being stubborn and refusing hard facts? Also boomer.
There is a distinct lack of other short easy and slightly insulting language to fit this niche. I could say "oh look a man of generally older age not understanding the new technology he hasn't grown up around!" Or I can just say haha boomer.
However I've also found that it's still changing. Kids seem to be using it to reference anyone that's old in their eyes. It's really interesting watching language change so rapidly.

Boomer is a shit state of mind/attitude. A state of being stuck in the past. Sadly, too many older Xers end up being Boomer Lite - and thus earn the label of shame.
Kiernian@reddit
I stopped being bothered by it recently because I realized something.
So, there's this:
And then one more thing:
One of the major complaints against boomers is that they got everything handed to them and now they want the world to operate the way they think it should.
Now, I don't know whether it's truly fair to lump us in with the people most of us were against from the start and that we were dead set on saving the world from with our votes and our actions, but to at least SOME degree, we look to the later generations like the boomers looked to us.
Until at least the housing crash, we had it easier with school debt, with housing, with jobs, with health insurance, because while it's been trending down for a WHILE we did not have it nearly so hard as we and they have it now.
Some Gen X'ers still have some of those brutally insidious attitudes that, while they aren't as blatant and forthright as plain racism and misogyny, still have their roots in those foundations. How many white gen x'er men side-by-side acknowledge the struggles of everyone else while reaping the benefits of being white dudes in this country?
Some older Gen X'ers are even retiring now and retirement won't exist as thing for almost anyone in the near future if we don't turn this around.
There's a lot that some gen x'ers just accept as "the way things are" because some of us gave up fighting a long time ago when it kept getting worse and worse, and a lot of the crappiest "allies" are in our generation because while we took steps our parents never dreamed of, some of our generation loves patting themselves on the back for doing so, like it's enough.
I don't like being called a boomer, but from the younger generations' perspectives, given the way large swaths of gen X behaves, I can't get too angry about the generalization, because a lot of it is rooted in truth.
BlueFeathered1@reddit
Somehow "boomer" became an insult and it's used against anyone over 35 by genz for anything adverse to their worldview.
Btw, we're not old either.
Realitymatter@reddit
Idk if I'm allowed to comment here as a millennial, but I would like to point out that to many in the younger generations, "boomer" is just as much a mindset as it is a generation.

Exact_Ear3349@reddit
I was born in late 1964, so if you accept the "Boomer" dates that OP provided then I'm a very late Boomer, and my kids give me shit about being a Boomer all the time - but here in Australia I had none of the perks that being born in the late 1940s or 1950s as a true post-WW2 Boomer would've provided - like full employment, free university education (that was removed by the early Boomers once they'd finished their Uni studies), cheap housing, holiday homes and so on. I graduated into a recession following stagflation, 16% interest rates, no jobs and University fees to repay. And housing prices that had begun their stratospheric increase. And fighting with the older generations that were imposing things like Uni fees on us. The "Boomer" term should be limited to people born in the late 1940s and 1950s as part of the post-WW2 baby boom, which is how it was originally defined in Australia. I'm not sure who added the "late" Boomer thing but from a sociological perspective anyone born in the 1960s had a very different experience- and prospects - to anyone born as a true Boomer.

Expensive-Signal8623@reddit
A thought to add to this frustration.
When I was young, I mean pre-teen on, I had some sense of history.
I knew when the Great Depression or Dust Bowl happened. WW II. If you asked me at 12, I could tell you that Elvis started getting big in the 1950s. Etc.
I knew approximately how old my grandparents or parents were for various historical events/eras.
Is it just me, or do the youngest generations have NO understanding of history and various generations' places? I'm GenX, firmly. I wasn't alive for WW II! Do you not understand that BOOMERS weren't alive for WW II? No, I didn't see Casablanca in a theater.
No sense of time! Heck, half of the cast of The Breakfast Club were BOOMERS! Weren't Ally Sheedy and the guy that played John Bender born in 1958? Emilio Estevez was born in the early 60s? Still, the Breakfast Club was about GenX and young ones today act like the people they depict should be 100 years old.
I just think it's funny when someone in their early 20s asks if I went to Woodstock. Huh? Lol
anticlimber@reddit

My 10 year old granddaughter calls me a boomer. I showed her the generations breakdown online, I was born in 66 so I am early Gen X, but that does not matter to her. She still calls me boomer, just to get under my skin. I do hate being lumped in with boomers, but she gets a pass.

I had a conversation with a Millennial the other day that more or less started with them assuming that they would for sure know more about computers than I did because they were "the first generation to grown up with them". I said that was cute, but my father (an actual boomer) was a Vax programmer in the 70s. My first home computer was built from a kit, then Commodores, etc. I can program in Assembly, something they didn't know existed.
Millennials were the first generation that grew up with easy access to computers but when I asked him who he thought MADE those computers the look on his face was fucking priceless.

You mean ‘boomer lite’? I’ve not had anyone call me that but I’ve totally heard the reference. I’m in no way a boomer, so that’s probably why.
Each generation gets stereotyped. Gen X was stereotyped from boomers when we were younger, they did not understand us, and they trumped us in numbers so much that we never got what we wanted politically (that’s my view) and we basically said ‘oh well, I’m ignored anyway and I can’t do anything about it (shrug)’.
Millennials and Gen Z are stereotyped too. Shrugs again.

Once you realize they use boomer they way we said “ok grandpa” or “ok grandma” to any out of touch older person - it becomes fine.
Boomers were so old and out of touch - the term Boomer has transcended a generational title and became a word for out of touch old people that may last for many generations.
It’s not like we were going to go around and say “ok greatest gen” to old people. That would have been counter productive.

The baby boom was from 1950 to 1964. Those born in the late forties were post-war babies This was the pent up demand of those returning from the war. The people born during the 1945-1949 period had a different life experience than boomers. They did not experience the overcrowding and lack of resources that boomers encountered. The postwar babies had the benefits of the post war boom. They were able to buy homes cheaply and had their voice of jobs. Too often the post war babies are incorrectly lumped into the baby boom.

I prefer Generation Jones. It's not a common phrase, but for anyone born between '58 and '65 it fits. I am very first wave X but my experiences aren't exactly the stereotype, and I have nothing in common with Boomers generally. Too young for disco and the sexual revolution, not quite old enough to understand how transformative MTV and Reagan would be, but watching music videos for hours, not a latchkey kid but watching our parents prioritize the office, and more and more moms going to work, and growing up in the shadow of AIDS which affected everyone regardless of orientation.
I once heard someone call Gen X "Gen Apathy" and that's always stuck with me.

Don't know how to do anything on their own to the point they'd rather pay for constant food and grocery delivery? Check. Obsessed with crypto and hoarding money? Check. I mean I could go on, but they don't seem to want to acknowledge the similarities that just keep stacking up.
CX316@reddit
Boomer, much like Karen, is a state of mind.
You can get an "Ok Boomer" as a milennial or Gen X, or a Karen if you're a guy, as long as you're acting in a way associated with a boomer or a karen.
Judg_Mentl@reddit
Have you tried not acting like a boomer? Getting bitthurt over name-calling is pretty boomerish
pizza99pizza99@reddit
If I call you a boomer, it’s because your acting old (particularly in relation to politics or technology)
It’s not me actually identifying you as a member of the boomer generation

Boomer is a mentality just as much as a generation. So if you're getting pressed at someone calling you a boomer, you might be a boomer.

Boomer just means anyone 10 years older than you or more in this context. It is not equivalent in this context to people that are generationally Baby Boomers.

IDK why you care, to be honest.

Personally as someone born in 68, and hearing Latchkey kids is a big no no. My first half brother (I still call him my brother) was born in 83 and he was a latchkey kid and I had never heard that term until then.
We were not being watched by anyone but ourselves, I left first grade class and went home and was on my own till my mom got home till 6ish.
Ya, some say we raised ourselves and guess what? Many of us did.
What generation did this to us, the baby boomers so people need to get their generations correct.

They don't mean "baby boom generation." To them, "boomer" just means somebody who is backward and old-fashioned. You don't have to be a boomer to be a boomer.

The word boomer refers to older people so people 80 and 90 are also called that. A 1965 person has zero in common with someone born in 1946 so there's not thought behind any of it. You may as well be called a boomer when you hit 50.

Do you remember when we just said "people in their 20's" or 30s or 40s? Yes there is some cultural-generational significance, like I remember when there wasn't an Internet. But honestly a lot of this is simply young people/medium aged people/old people shit and it has been the same in all ages. I agree, being called a boomer just because I'm not a carefree 20 something's does rankle. But that's an age thing. Not a Gen thing.

They just look stupid. Personally, I have never been called a boomer. I’m 50, but look younger; not trying to pat myself, I essentially looked 35 from age 16 on (I’m not delusional, I probably NOW pass for mid 40s). The younger generations, millennials included are mostly weak, can’t adapt, not as tech savvy as they think they are (gen up on millennials though) I was coding on a c64, you needed to know what you were doing on one of those, not point and click and made learning or adapting to future technologies so much easier, as, they are, an idiot can adapt. Since I started in the professional world, it was always so easy to outwork, out smart, and out produce these younger clowns - never saw them as competition. While we produce, they whine.
Careful-Use-4913@reddit

skunkapebreal@reddit
The word is just evolving (devolving?). It means you are perceived as someone who has characteristics associated with it (Old, Karen, Boring, etc.). It’s not really meant to be precise or applied to one person, it’s rooted in economic theory I think. I didnt like being defined that way…started asking questions; what age do you consider old? Got such a wide range of answers that it became easy to ignore the term.
Dedpoolpicachew@reddit

I’m a boomer I couldn’t be more proud of it. I don’t care what other people say I love the accomplishments of my generation early on in the 60s and 70s. Just curious, when people call you boomer do you reckon it's actually because people think the baby boomer generation lasted til 1980, or does it usually happen right after you've waxed nostalgic about garden hoses and streetlights and seatbelts and generally fetishized your upbringing and condescended to the hopeless generations that followed you?
ludachr1st@reddit
I feel like "boomer" is just used as a stand in for "old" now. To kids, anyone who is older and doesn't meet current cool standards is a boomer.
Auntie_Venom@reddit
Haven’t had that happen… Yet.
My (good) problem is that I’m always mistaken for a millennial because I look a lot younger than I am, even by older Gen Xers. I respond- Thanks for the compliment, but I’m Gen X. 😉
WestBeachSpaceMonkey@reddit
I don’t like that range. I feel that X is too divided by technology. If you don’t grow up with MTV as a babysitter or start playing video games before kindergarten then I don’t feel that I have much in common with you generationally. I think that ‘65-‘75 should be boomer and we should extend X to 84.
InnerAside5636@reddit
Actually, 79 to 84 is r/xennials

In Europe Genx generation starts in 1962 because things turned to shit before we reached 20. We're the punk generation. I'm French, born in 1964, my 20th birthday was burning diarrhea and things only went worse from there.
diablol3@reddit
This is on the precipice of "Karen is a racial slur" territory. Kids use boomer as a word to describe any old person.
SausageSmuggler21@reddit
I remember being a 22 year old. My friend was dating a 30 year old. That guy might as well have been born in 1850 because he was so old. Being concerned that kids think us old people are slightly older seems like a whole lot of wasted energy and time.
rex_swiss@reddit
I'm "technically" a Boomer, born in the early 60's. The Boomer generation is supposed to be children of those returning from WW2. But my father was 8 when the war ended. And I have very little in common with people born in 1945 or even 55. The cultural definition of Gen X matches exactly how I grew up. The Boomer generation definition is too broad and subjective.
TakeMeOver_parachute@reddit
I have to admit, as a '77 GenX I really don't identify with most of pre-75 GenX. They're all boomers. 😄
Wooden-Evidence-374@reddit
The word boomer is used in different ways. Rarely is it ever meant to refer to the time period in which you were born.
It's often directed at someone to indicate they are close-minded/ignorant, incorrectly used modern slang, can't properly use a piece of technology, or used an old saying.
Global_Initiative257@reddit
It's something an idiot says when they run out of defenses. I don't really care. They can call me whatever on the internet. I can shut this shit down in a second. And they aren't really real, are they? Just some nameless faceless nobody insulting me. Who cares.

A true go get your shinebox kid statement.
tez_zer55@reddit
FYI ... Actually, the boomer generation is broken out as Boomer Generation 1946-1954. Then the Jones Generation, 1955-1964. Generations are not usually defined by a two decade time span.

Boomer is a mindset not a time period. If you’re being called a Boomer often it’s because you are a Boomer.
Netprincess@reddit
The point here is calling someone a name. It's exactly the same as ( I will use the slur on my racial profile.) Raghead. It means to hurt.
DroneSlut54@reddit
So you’re comparing ethnicity to personality flaws? That’s stupid.
Ordinary-Badger-9341@reddit
Those years are bogus. No one is genx who was a teenager still in the 70s. It'd start more like 1975 as the lowest, not 65.

Generation X
Researchers and popular media often use the mid-1960s as its starting birth years and the late 1970s as its ending birth years, with the generation generally defined as people born from 1965 to 1980.

ChikenCherryCola@reddit
Boomer is a vibe, not a birth date. You can be a 23 and act like a boomer.
If you have a management or supervisory role in your workplace and regularly ask your younger subordinates for basic technical support, you are a boomer. The boomerness here is having a job you are neither qualified for or competent enough for and your subordinates, who make less than you and generally are struggling, are proping you up
If you treat retail workers badly (yell at them, make a scene, don't tip, make many asinine requests) you are a boomer. Retail work is miserable and pays poverty rates, just because you are a customer doesn't mean you get to act like Marie Antoinette and treat them like indentured servants.
If you don't have nice things to tell younger people but an insatiable need to give them unsolicited advice and criticisms, you're a boomer.
The problem with boomers isn't their birthdays, no one cares when anyone was born or how old they are. The problem with boomers is they are a specific category of common asshole that everyone has to deal with on a regular basis. It just so happens that these people tend to be in the 50s and up, but really and asshole is an asshole right? People don't care about the "post ww2 baby boom" or anything like that, they see a a white woman in her 60s walk into a Carl's Jr. and start emotionally preparing for the scene that's about to unravel.
InnerAside5636@reddit
Amen. I'm hearing a ton of "when they call me a boomer, I just call them a renter" on this thread alone that screams boomer vibes to me as a 54 yr old white lady. Boomer is now a harmless pejorative for an uptight, narrow-minded person older than the person using it. I wouldn't even call it agism since it's used more for describing negative attributes versus age specifics.
ChikenCherryCola@reddit
I mean as with all things, it's an oppressor oppressed thing. Like if someone takes being called a boomer as an insult and their reaction to it is to insult back with the pretext of the insult being "you are suffering the cruel end of our social structure" then uh... yea that makes you a boomer lol. Like people wouldn't call em boomers if most people were not getting their shit kicked in by socio economic conditions, they would probably call them something more respectful or endearing especially if they were performing their normal societal roles as mentors and benefactors. Like the derision people have when they talk to millenials and zoomers is the exact same derision they have for the homeless and undocumented immigrants. It's like walking down the street in your top hat and cane and then using your cane to beat a poor child in dirty, scruffy clothing. It's the kind of ruthless cruelty that you can't explain to people because people that ruthless and cruel and just incapable of being made self aware of themselves. People reach a level of wealth and privilege that really isn't all that high, like maybe they're a home owner with kids, and suddenly they're like the god damn bourgeoisie swatting the proles down.
InnerAside5636@reddit
Exactly. Reminds me of African American history when they'd pit the slaves against each other, like house vs. field slaves. We need to fight a class war, not a culture war.

Even for those of use we ARE Boomers… I’m a late Boomer (1960). I get tired of young people assuming that all Boomers don’t know how to use tech. Umm, personal computers became common when I was in my 20s (1980s), and I started using email in my early 30s and have used it my entire career.
I do observe that some (by no means all) of the oldest Boomers seem tech-challenged, but that’s not the entire generation!

GenX, however, my GenX friend whom I've known longer than I haven't is not very computer literate, nor great with cell phones, etc so I refer to him as "Analogue GenX".

OK so if everyone thinks gen X starts in 1965, then Eddie Vedder is a boomer, Mark Lanegan is a boomer, Kim Deal is a boomer, Chris Cornell is a boomer. And no one should include them in anything gen X because they are all baby boomers, even though no one ever put these dumb ass labels on my age group when they were up on stage.
I've been argued into the ground by other people here for even daring to mention Sonic Youth because they had the audacity to be born outside of that time frame.
These people are the definition of gen-xers to me though. And I wouldn't be myself had they not changed my world when the exploded onto the music scene.
I care not what the rest of this sub thinks should be classified as gen X but do get tired of seeing these conversations over and over. If you experienced the world in similar ways as I did, that's good enough to me to be considered gen X.

Using language (words n stuff) the way they were intended or explained to you last week is the first sign of being a --insert word for elder here-- I've learned.... in other words, 'what I said feels correct so it is and you are out of touch, can you die and leave me your stuff?'
Dede0821@reddit
They call us boomers because they can’t bring themselves to call us Gen X, it makes us sound cooler than the younger generations. As I think we are the coolest, our name suits us.
zingaro_92@reddit
My hubby just made the cutoff but whenever he gets cranky I roll out the “okay boomer” 😉
AgentJ691@reddit

Infinite-Hold-7521@reddit
Usually I respond with, “like, whatever dude”.
KristiDFW@reddit
Do we as a GenXer... actually give two shits?
kynaturists@reddit
It’s happened. They usually are a little more respectful when you ask if they, wanna talk outside.
Redkneck35@reddit
Just reply "mkay stupid"
Putrid-Ad2966@reddit
I generally get mistaken for a millennial. 🤷♀️💅
Redkneck35@reddit
Haven't been called a Boomer yet. I normally get called "Old School"
Ipleadedthefifth@reddit
It's as if gen x doesn't exist
Rooster1984@reddit
Stay away from group identity bs. It’s the first sign of the game.
morose4eva@reddit
Don't indulge in boomer behaviors, and you're good. Unfortunately, some of ya'll do.
ItsJustGrg@reddit
What's a Gen x?
drumorgan@reddit
Same way people call any kids Millennials (who are now in their 40s)
blackcain@reddit
It's more of a mentality than age.
trailerbang@reddit
Then stop acting like them? 🤷♂️
Maybe stop perpetuating their morally and ethically regressive lifestyles?
GenX is boomer lite™️
Pantim@reddit
I'm sick of it also
Upper_Economist7611@reddit
I’m glad people forget we Xers exist!
bobbichocolatthe2nd@reddit
I wish generational disrespect wasn't so accepted, for and from any generation. Regardless if you've said them damn Millenials or Okay Boomer, you're psrt of a growing problem.
Why do we Americans seem to search for ways to separate ourselves from other Americans? And then add some negativity in for good measure.
JeighNeither@reddit
They don't know much and have little in anything before their birthdates.
That said, my genX circle has more in common with Gen Z than with Millennials. They're too soft to mis-gen us.
ExpensiveKale3620@reddit
I was born in 1964. I hate that I’m just barely one of those assh*les
Investigator516@reddit
Can’t blame them in the USA, where they banned math textbooks.
TheDonRonster@reddit
I don't really know the context, but "boomer" isn't so much an age thing. Over the past decade it has taken a new definition meaning "out of touch". I'm not sure what situation you were in, but I imagine a scenario where the kids are talking about no cap Skibidi Toilet Ohio Rizzler Pogchamp 😂😂💯🔥🔥💯 and you hit them with a "what does any of that even mean?" they'll probably hit you back with a "boomer".
uofsc93@reddit
Because giving a rat's ass what the younger generations opine is a very Boomer act.
TwpMun@reddit
The only place it happens if from the absolute dregs of the internet on here, so it doesn't bother me
PNWrainsalot@reddit
Taking the boomer word literally just adds fuel to the fire. It has nothing to do with being an actual boomer. Just acting or responding like an old person. When people try to come back with “I’m not a boomer” it just makes them look that much more old and out of touch.
PondoSinatra9Beltan6@reddit
It irritates me when people refer to me as a boomer, especially when they say "Okay, boomer" which is one of the dumbest, intellectually lazy, bullshit responses there is. To be fair, however, millennials get the same shit, only in reverse. Anyone born after 1980 is automatically a millennial, And most of the obnoxious shit they get blamed for is actually Gen A
Shellsallaround@reddit
Whatever dude!
RattledMind@reddit
I just say "Whatever, renter." and move on about my day.
Beautiful_Path_3519@reddit
GenW ( =generation whatevah )
Chile_Chowdah@reddit
You can be a gen xer by birth, but you can be a boomer in attitude if you go around thinking everyone younger than you is stupid and believing society owes you something.
Beautiful_Path_3519@reddit
Consider myself GenX, based on who I've known, I reckon you are a boomer if parents were adults during WW2, GenX if they were too young to participate.
PolkaSlams@reddit
My elder millennial daughter just “boomer’d” me last night and I got so indignant! Excuse me? You’ve mistaken me for your grandma, I’m proudly GenX stfu 😆
PhiloLibrarian@reddit
I’m not a Boo-mah!
ericpaul76@reddit
You would think since they have smartphones that they'd be smart enough to look up what boomers are in the first place, but they're all too stupid as it is
Ross_G_Everbest@reddit
Lol. One would think you'd be smart enough to know that the term hasnt been exclusive to the age group of baby boomers for years and is used towards folks with shitty boomer-like traits. Always funny to see a dumb ass call others stupid. FFS, Bevis, think before you spew your cloacal respirations.
ericpaul76@reddit
Oh you got me. Such a burn
cmt38@reddit
But see, this is a boomer style response and is in part where they're getting their ammunition.
ericpaul76@reddit
Ha! Hilarious.... well I was born in the late 70s, so try again
Ross_G_Everbest@reddit
So much unawareness.
her-royal-blueness@reddit
Whoosh
ABgottakes2024@reddit
I've embraced it, kind of as a way to declare I know more/have seen more than the rest of yous, especially among my coworkers - I'm in my 50s and 10+ years older than all of them, 20+ than most "Speaking as the resident boomer..." especially when I compare a current situation than something in the past.
I happen to work in a food-related industry and I just roll my eyes when I hear "there is a real trend toward people wanting healthier food these days..." uh, yeah, it started in 1985
Cool_Bite_9054@reddit
Even though I'm a late Millennial I can understand how you Gen Xers feel. I get Labeled a Gen Zer when I tell folks I'm a 95 baby I'm 100% Millennial
ThisNameIsTakenTwo@reddit
Just realized I’m a GenX / Xennial and my man is a Boomer.
Hahahahahaha!!!!! I can’t wait to go call him a boomer 😂
MonoBlancoATX@reddit
When you act like a Boomer, you're gonna get called a Boomer.
Boomer is not only a term that describes a particular generation, it also is a term used to describe an attitude which is often displayed by people of that generation but others as well, including ours.
And based on the clues in your post, I'm betting you deserve it when someone says "ok, boomer".
mlachick@reddit
My kids call me a boomer just to piss me off. Now when they do it I just give them the finger.
Couch-Potato0904@reddit
No ones ever called me that even though I am a Boomer. Wouldn’t bother me because I would have a snarky comeback (cause I’m a Boomer)😂😂
TheSwedishEagle@reddit
Okay, boomer
hadesscion@reddit
It's weird hearing people refer to the original Doom and other early FPS games as "boomer shooters," since they were created and popularized by Gen Xers.
BigBanyak22@reddit
I'm Gen X and I call millennials boomers... Whatever
themichaelkemp@reddit
Boomer is a mindset
Ross_G_Everbest@reddit
The number of GenX lamers ITT who arent understanding that... We laugh so we dont cry.

It's the children of every annoying adult we have come in contact with.
Boomers and their kids are working together for our attention.

The Covid Grads don’t know much more than numbers and letters.
WrenchMonkey47@reddit
Millennials and Zoomers believe that anyone older than themselves is a Boomer. Facts don't matter to them.
Chess_Is_Great@reddit
Agreed. I usually respond by intentionally incorrectly labelling them - “OK millennial.” They respond by saying something about me being an idiot, to which I retort - “and I’m not a boomer. Get lost”
Ross_G_Everbest@reddit
Shut up, boomer.
No_Amoeba_9272@reddit
I just call them twerps
Ross_G_Everbest@reddit
I tried being dweeb and lamer back... but fetch aint happening.
baltosteve@reddit
Dude just called the Atari wave boomers.
Deedeelite@reddit
I was born in 77' and have been called a boomer if I use a Gen X reference. The kids calling us boomers are just jealous because we are the most awesome generation. Boom.
No_Names78@reddit
Everyone is called a boomer nowadays who says something young people don't agree with. Not just us, Millenials too.
Ross_G_Everbest@reddit
Naw. It's not everyone someone disagrees with. It's those spewing boomesqe nonsense or vibes.
stromm@reddit
My parents were Silent Gen. My older brothers are Boomers. I’m Gen-X, born in late-69 and I have been called Boomer for more than ten years.
Icy-Possibility-3941@reddit
I’m Gen X. My sister is a boomer. And the parents were Silent Gen. Have all the bases covered.
tultommy@reddit
It's hard for some folks to count that high so they just guess wrongly.
bzee77@reddit
Yes. And I just saw someone refer to Gen-X as “Neo-Boomers.” I was actually almost going to thank him for acknowledging Gen-X existed.
her-royal-blueness@reddit
lol!
saintdudegaming@reddit
I've called older Millennials 'Boomer' when they're acting like a Boomer. At this point it's beyond age and is more attitude I think. 0_o
LocalInactivist@reddit
That’s SO millennial: calling a millennial a boomer because they’re acting like one. Kudos!
shamashedit@reddit
Getting this worked up over it is huge boomer energy. I think you are one of them. Even went so far to get big mad on Reddit over it.
True Gen X doesn't give a fuck, and kick flips while holding their aarp tote. See ya, chumps.
ContributionDry2252@reddit
Also, the "boomers" aren't same everywhere. In Finland, the baby boom was 1945-1950, not 196x.
90Carat@reddit
Mmmmk. Why are you being called a Boomer?
revvolutions@reddit
What happens in '65 that doesn't happen in '64?
lynistopheles@reddit
I have a friend who constantly complains about her BOOMER dad, who is 90.
I have pointed out many times that her father is not a boomer but because she is 63 that makes her a boomer. She denies it. I think she has a problem with aging.
And math in general.
Bobby_Globule@reddit

La_Mano_Cornuta@reddit
I think for the younger generation, if you were born in a year that started with 19xx, you're a boomer in their eyes. Subtlety has been lost to generalization anymore.
Awe3@reddit
Boomer has become the new umbrella term for people over 40. A bit annoying.
LocalInactivist@reddit
“We said ‘Meh.’ “M. E. H. Meh”
Bloody_Mabel@reddit
Okay Boomer.
(Kidding)
Ianthin1@reddit
Boomer is a mindset as well as an age group. If you have boomer ideals that's on you.
StillC5sdad@reddit
Fuckin kids...
Ross_G_Everbest@reddit
Well, that is what boomers did.
ezshucks@reddit
Boomer just means old person to these young whippersnappers.
put_simply@reddit
Boomer is not an age but a mentality.
fonebone819@reddit
My kid (14) calls me (1972 - smack dab in the middle) a boomer all the time... i usually laugh and tell him to STFU
whistlepig4life@reddit
Yes. Very much so.
EvnBdWlvsCnBGd@reddit
meh
broohaha@reddit
Yup. There was a post showing some non-Japanese dude freaking out at a retail worker, and they called him a boomer. II replied that the guy's too young to be a boomer. I was downvoted.
SlyFrog@reddit
Who fucking cares?
coopnjaxdad@reddit
People throw boomer around as more of a mindset nowadays rather than an actual age group. Plenty on my Gen-X or Xennial friends act straight boomer.
Ross_G_Everbest@reddit
This doesnt get said enough, but dont feed the trolls. If someone calls you a boomer ignore it. QQing more will only make them laugh at you harder.
While we're at it, if someone insults you with 'pepper too spicy', just know your reaction if going to make them cackle and giggle their asses off.
And.. origin is not destiny... Boomer is a catch all for old annoying people with certain karen-like views. You can be a baby boomer and not be a boomer, and you can be genX/Y/Z and be a boomer.
Yer fucken genX... We were forged by draino enema-like brutality. Stop QQing about kids calling you a boomer, grandpa. Or, ponder whatever dumb shit you did to get you called a boomer.
cmparkerson@reddit
For me it's a how old do you think I am? More than anything. But it doesn't really happen much
tsnye@reddit
Gen X and boomers can do simple math!
join-the-line@reddit
Well, plenty of us act like Boomers, so I understand the confusion.
Moist_Rule9623@reddit
At my work I’m on the perilous edge. We have a lot of actual boomers like my mom’s age hanging on to their jobs; and I feel like I at 50 or so AM BUT AM NOT lumped in with them.
I like to think that 15 years from now I will be regarded as one of the last survivors of the previous generation, and maybe can retire as a (not “the”) Grand Old Man at what I do. Assuming that what I do and where I do it even still exists at that point
CapitanianExtinction@reddit
Okay Boomer!
Odd_Beginning_8419@reddit
You're being too literal. Boomer is just a slang term for an older person who is out of touch with the younger generations.
juicexiii@reddit
I just say "ok zoomer"
seigezunt@reddit
I’m not bothered. Many of our generation are acting like entitled bigoted boomers, so it scans.
Big-Beat-1443@reddit
Prolly due to your actions, chill out
RadicalOrganizer@reddit
What a boomer post.
Thunder_Grundle0@reddit
A whole helluva lot of us gen x'ers have the attitude and looks of boomers. More than half of my friends turned into their parents. Just get over it ya boomer
Shep1973@reddit
In all fairness LOTS of GenX are acting like Boomers 🤷♀️
Unable-Economist-525@reddit
I just start laughing and suggest they pay attention in class; maybe read a book or something. One response I received is that everyone from the 20th century is irrelevant. My answer was that everyone who remembers 9/11 was born in the 20th century, and somehow their collective experience doesn't seem irrelevant given the continuing global sectarian violence.
Macdaddy357@reddit
And the really young ones aren't Millenials either.
Doug_E_Fresh69@reddit
YES!!!
theblisters@reddit
1969, I've never had anyone call me a Boomer, you're getting what you're giving
LostEarthDog@reddit
Maybe stop Boomering wannabe Boomer

Never have I ever been mistaken for a Boomer, thankfully.

Notsmartnotdumb2025@reddit
We were called worse as kids so fuck em.
TesseractToo@reddit
Boomer means the generation, it also means being so out of touch that it's comical and not getting that is the most boomer thing there is
Breklin76@reddit
What do you care?
SwanReal8484@reddit
If you act like a boomer, you're a boomer.
