Was robert stack in on the joke in do america?

Like did he like the show and enjoy being part of the movie?
HandsomePaddyMint@reddit
He probably didn’t watch the show and voice work isn’t really an experience you have any strong feelings about unless you have a really strong, fleshed out character, but I think he was “playing it straight” because that’s what he was hired to do. He knew where the jokes were and what they were but it’s not the kind of role where you lean into the punchlines.
Cheap-Play-80@reddit
I choose to believe he was because that's the answer I want.
BiggusDickus-@reddit
What joke would that be? He was fully aware of the movie that he was making.
chpr1jp@reddit
I can see him in his living room, watching TV, and the commercial for the movie comes on. Stack’s like: “What?! I’ve been duped!”
Ahlq802@reddit
Cavity searches all around!
orbitalaction@reddit
I'm talking roto-rooter; don't stop until you reach the back of his teeth.
peachyfuzzle@reddit
I still use this line from time to time, and people just look at me like I have three heads.
Context for anyone who isn't over 40: You'd be surprised how often colonoscopies come up in regular conversation.

Did we just score?

Deep and hard!
Ahlq802@reddit
Uhuhuhuhuhuhuhuh, “hard”

"Who duped me? Find out tonight, on Unsolved Mysteries.

JohnnyChooch@reddit
It took Peter Graves a little while to "get" what he was doing in 'Airplane!', but I'm pretty sure Stack was on board (heh) the entire time.
cornholio8675@reddit
Have you seen BaseketBall?
He gets it, he likes comedy.
justincsw@reddit
"He's hanging by his neck in his fucking closet"
cornholio8675@reddit
Scenario number two... Coop went to Disney World.
NightOfTheSlunk@reddit
You want to know where Coop is? Just look for the most heinous, vile, and horrible exploitation of children on the planet.
justincsw@reddit
🤣🤣. That couple minutes of film are comedy gold. Only Stack and his serious tone could pull it off so well
mushupork88@reddit
Absolutely... like Leslie Nielsen in Police Squad and The Naked Gun 🤣

Apparently you've never seen Airplane
Rabid_Cheese_Monkey@reddit
Yes.
So was Dave Letterman
JDanzy@reddit
Letterman actually became a fan, referenced B&B on his own show now and then
Rabid_Cheese_Monkey@reddit
Oh I know.
Dave and B&B hung out a couple times. Once on his show and once at the MTV Music Awards.
JDanzy@reddit
Oh yeah I forgot they were guests on there at least once
Electronic-Regret484@reddit
You boys wanna see sumthin cool?

Remote_Database7688@reddit
I don’t think he really was. I remember seeing him interviewed by HBO or MTV about the movie and he just said “This movie is all about cavity searches,” in the most exasperated voice.
Maybe he got it, maybe he didn’t but I think it’s fair to say it wasn’t a role he was particularly fond of.
lastcallhall@reddit
Dude was in good chunk of comedic films, and was a good actor overall. I'm pretty sure he knew what funny was.
mr207@reddit
Just imagine if in real life he didn’t actually get any of the jokes. He’s recording his lines then the guy says cut and he says “Dammit what is this? Whackin? Prepositions? What does this even mean? Get Judge in here we need to talk.”
diovengeance92@reddit
Uh, why wouldn't Robert Stack be in on the joke? Do you think Unsolved Mysteries is his entire identity?
Affable_Refrigerator@reddit
He thought he was doing VO work for Buffcoat and Beaver.
ego1man@reddit
Probably
AromaticSherbert@reddit
I’m sure he liked the money they gave him

According to an interview I saw with Mike Judge he wasn’t too impressed early on, like he thought the cavity search jokes were cheap or something, but clearly he came around at some point
pump-n_munch@reddit
Full cavity searches all around!

I don't think he was completely stupid so...yeah

Don’t miss him in Airplane!

Line from Mr. Stack in baseketball: "All of us here are glad that such a terrific human being like Joe Cooper has returned. If I were a woman, I'd sure like to be his girlfriend. [she begins to think things over] Walking in the park hand in hand, wrapping my legs around him, cuddling in the spoon position, our hearts beating in unison, staring into his eyes over our morning coffee. [someone splashes a cup of water on him] Ugh... yes. Heheh yes, thank you. When we come back, our next unsolved mystery: Coop's luggage. Where did it go?"
Im sure he knew what was going on lol.
