How many of you read these?

My mom gave me a bunch of my old books, and these were in there. I loved reading this series in elementary school.
Upstairs_Hat_9131@reddit
Wow…that literally brought back memories. I remember one of those books describing how the cat would circle and circle before they finally laid down, contrasted by the dog who just flopped down.
I have no idea why I remember that from 30 years ago.
ww8431@reddit
I read these, anybody read the plant that ate the dirty socks?
Imaginary_Angle7437@reddit
Oh wow! I forgot all about these! Read all of them. Holy nostalgia batman. 🤗
ahawk99@reddit
Yes to all, Bunnicula was the best!
CSWorldChamp@reddit
I must’ve read Howliday Inn 20 times. Formative.
ericscottf@reddit
I can't read the word bungalow without being transported to a very specific moment in my childhood.
DigitalxDevilx@reddit
It's funny you say that. That is where I learned the word!
DigitalxDevilx@reddit
Howliday Inn was how I learned the word "bungalow".
RarelyHere1345@reddit
Remember them and hated them. I was a hard core Little House on the Prairie girl.
GreatGlassLynx@reddit
Oh fuck yes. I think Bunnicula kicked off my lifelong love of reading.
GrauntChristie@reddit
I read them all, but I can’t remember a single bit of any of them.
metmerc@reddit
I don't know if I read Nighty Nightmare, but I definitely read the other three. I tried reading Bunnicula to one of my kids when they were little, but they just didn't get in to it. I, however, remembered and appreciated how increasingly unhinged the cat gets in that one.
Miserable-Age3502@reddit
I LOVED THESE SO MUCH!!! These and "I Want to Go Home" by Gordon Korman were my most re-read books.
Boomgoesmybrain@reddit
Read them? I still have them!
More-read-than-eddit@reddit
Me. Somehow this, ghost squad, and the Miss Bianca books are not in a nice anthology/omnibus format and it drives me nuts.
MonkeyChoker80@reddit
I found a nice hardcover with three Bunnicula books in it at a thrift books store, and was all “score!”
Only to discover, when I read them to my kiddos at Halloween-time, that it was, like, books 1, 3, and 5.
So, “Return to Howliday Inn”, but not the original “Howliday Inn”.
Kiddo was minorly confused, but the books were ‘stand-alone’-ish enough that it was fine, and they still enjoyed them.
More-read-than-eddit@reddit
Yeah I owned celery stalks at midnight which was very “in the middle of some sort of arc” but still stood alone
Lawrenceburntfish@reddit
Holy... Crap ..
I haven't thought about Bunnicula since I was single digits.
AwkwardPersonality36@reddit
BUNNICULA!!!
margaritabop@reddit
Bunnicula is now available as a graphic novel as well! Bought it for my daughter.
Gorkymalorki@reddit
Also it was a cartoon, too.
MonkeyChoker80@reddit
Tried watching some of it on YouTube, after reading my kiddo some of the books.
The cartoon felt very… ‘stereotype heavy’.
The cat was a ‘cool cat’ who ‘knew it all’
The dog was a ‘dopey dog’ who was ‘too dumb to live’.
After my reading, where Chester was all paranoid and neurotic, while Harold was calm and unflappable and just mildly annoyed by Chester’s antics…? Kiddo hated the cartoon series immensely.
JustACasualFan@reddit
Read them all up to Nighty-Nightmare. Also read a good chunk of Hobie Hanson.
AskTheAdmin@reddit
Everyone of them!
Shoehornblower@reddit
My 3rd grade teacher Ms. Graham read these to us…
Goofygooberz@reddit
Those books helped us move to Stephen King as we got a little older
CorgiMonsoon@reddit
I read all of them. We somehow owned a copy of The Celery Stalks at Midnight. Then I came in 3rd in my 4th grade spelling bee and got a bundle of books that included Nighty Nightmare. So having read those two multiple times I finally got Bunnicula and Howliday Inn from the library to read those two as well.
javaper@reddit
I love these! We still quote them in my family.
Any-Baseball-6766@reddit
Pretty sure I read them all. When my kids were cartoon age there was a bunnacula cartoon they used to watch. It wasn’t anything like the books but it was pretty entertaining.
fermentedradical@reddit
What great books!
ScagWhistle@reddit
ALL OF THEM.
chozopanda@reddit
Yes I loved those books! If I see a rather anemic looking vegetable I still say it looks like Bunnicula got it
FeistyFoundation8853@reddit
My friend and I still quote it. “Sing “Feelings,” Chester.”
elphaba00@reddit
I just made a reference to Bunnicula today. My teen is taking an ag class at school, and the classroom has a bunny. The bunny is mean. She bites. And apparently yesterday it was my son's day to get his leg humped. So today there's a petting zoo at the elementary school, and I joked that they're going to need to put a sign on Bunnicula's cage. My son texted back that the biting, humping bunny was left at the high school.
sugarturtle88@reddit
I always reference Bunnicula when citing why I won't eat cauliflower (looks like broccoli Bunnicula got to first)... the uncultured swine who haven't read the books stare like I've grown an extra head... those who have read the books delight!
ResidentHooman@reddit
Oh hell yeah!
engrish_is_hard00@reddit
I member
melodyomania@reddit
I loved reading these books and watching the cartoon specials.
jackfaire@reddit
I might have? I've honestly read so many books in my life that there's ones I've forgotten and ones I can describe but not find
EvergreenHulk@reddit
Read them, hell I named my cat Chester after them.
MidSerpent@reddit
All four of those, they were among my favorites as a kid.
therealpopkiller@reddit
All 4 of them. There’s something in o e of those books that made me laugh so much but I can’t remember we what it was. Maybe time for a reread, should be quick
TinyLittleWeirdo@reddit
I DID! Omg I loved those books so much! Thanks for the happy memories!
concreteghost@reddit
Crazy to think about publishing companies not find this niche age for reading profitable anymore. Idk maybe I’m wrong
MetaVulture@reddit
I did! I loved them!
Sad about Deborah Howe though.
trixie1013@reddit
Woah. I had no idea what you meant so I looked it up. Cancer and passed away at 31 is way too short. Her husband kept the Bunnicula series alive- as recent as 1999 and 2006- plus so much more. He was busy.
NurkleTurkey@reddit
God I loved James Howe.
aftorpheus@reddit
I only read Bunicula because the bunny was cwute
cowhand214@reddit
I think I read Bunnicula. I know I read and re-read Howliday Inn countless times
remoteworker9@reddit
I had Bunnicula!
Methuselahdacannibal@reddit

Bunnicula scared me for some reason!
Harbinger_Pulsar@reddit
Great books. Also The Plant that Ate Dirty Sox series
pineapples_are_evil@reddit
Yes! I also just lifted my 9 yr old niece Bunnicula! I'm excited to see what she thinks. It may not be up her alley, unrepentant Horse Girl... but it's my mission to get them reading "old" books... lol
CayseyBee@reddit
Bunnicula is one of my all time favorite books and I fully blamed for my love of supernatural books.
OntologicalParadox@reddit
You are missing Return to Howliday Inn
navy_yn2000@reddit
I loved Bunnicula.
rqny@reddit
I loved Bunnicula 🩷
LysandraTheDragon@reddit
Omg omg omg, I forgot about all of these and I loved all 4
johnvalley86@reddit
Didn't read the others but bunnicula was definitely a must read back in the day
Ignignokt73@reddit
I read these, The Cricket in Times Square series, and all the John Bellairs books (Spell of the Sorcerer’s Skull, House with a Clock in its Walls) in elementary school. All favorites.
louiselebeau@reddit
I loved those. I kinda want to read them again now.
palec39682@reddit
Bunnicula was the first book in English I could read back in 6th grade
rangeghost@reddit
My Mom read them to me and my brother when we were kids, although I think I remember the fifth book, Return to the Howliday Inn, the best.
The Celery Stalks at Midnight's cover is permanently burned into my memory.
Gabby_Johnson2@reddit
Bunnicula and the Celery Stalks at Midnight I did read, they other two I didn't. Both were good reads if I remember correctly
Slippery-Pete76@reddit
Pretty sure I read those two as well. Probably got them at a Scholastic book sale.
Morriganx3@reddit
I read all of them, but I only remember the first two. Bunnicula is an absolute classic
FoXym0r0n@reddit
Same here, I loved the series. I did a book report on Bunnicula when I was in 4th grade. 😄
___wiz___@reddit
I also did a Bunnicula book report! I got a wave of Sunday night procrastination panic from seeing the cover again
Flimsy_Situation_506@reddit
Celery Stalks at Midnight was a favourite of mine.
OkBaconBurger@reddit
I can’t remember if this was a fever dream or not. I know I read this book. But I also swear they killed a vampire vegetables by driving toothpicks into it.
Minnow_Minnow_Pea@reddit
Yeah, that was The Celery Stalks at Midnight.
OkBaconBurger@reddit
Better nab a copy for my kids then. Also the plant that ate dirty socks.
nitrot150@reddit
I think I read Howliday in too, loved those books
CockroachMammoth4229@reddit (OP)
I was never a big reader, unlike my sister who would consume a book a week or more. These were some of the few I remember reading repeatedly, along with The Hobbit and The Dark is Rising series.
SanchoPandas@reddit
Same same! Loved em.
shrimpcreole@reddit
I read my copies until they fell apart. The stories are great!
fenwoods@reddit
All of them! I loved them so much.

3490goat@reddit
I actually got them to read to my daughter. She loves them too!
Other-Opposite-6222@reddit
Not bad adult rereads. So fun
johnnyroboto@reddit
I reread all of these to my daughter and they don’t hold up particularly well. They’re not very well written, as someone else mentioned they talk a lot about how the dog loves eating chocolate, and they have a lot of bad (for real bad) jokes.
Some of the Goosebumps books hold up better. The Roald Dahl books are all very well written, Matilda is especially good.
diggsyb@reddit
Bunnicula!!!!
lost-in-binary@reddit
YES!!!
IpeeInclosets@reddit
I don't read much these days.
Ok-Potato-4774@reddit
I only remember reading Bunnicula, and I thought he looked so cute on the cover!
Competitive-Phase-75@reddit
Aside from suggesting that it's perfectly fine to give chocolate to dogs, I remember all of these books fondly. Still have my copy of Bunnicula on the shelf next to Watership Down
themuck@reddit
Bunnicula was the first book I read for required summer reading. It fostered a lifelong love of books.
GreenZebra23@reddit
Read and reread them all many times. They were all fun but the first one was magic
lavasca@reddit
I was stressed out last year and re-read Bunnicula.
Sometimes re-reading such books helps me get into the mindset and care-free feeling that I had back then.
Brave-Panic7934@reddit
Holy shit, I haven’t seen these in years! Read them all except Nighty-Nightmare. TIL there was a fourth and final piece to make me whole again 🥹
wartgood@reddit
I don't know that I've read them all, but I know I've read the first two. Loved the white, drained carrots with the bitemarks.
ScaledFolkWisdom@reddit
I think I read all of them except Nighty Nightmare. I remember being convinced to give them a chance (because it always sounded dumb) and found them more entertaining than I expected.
Salt_Flatworm5363@reddit
OMG! I read all of those as a kid! Great memories!
trkyN3St3w@reddit
“The Celery Stalks at Midnight“ - such a great title. Loved these!

Rosemadder19@reddit
Yes! I absolutely loved all of these!
Prior-Box7277@reddit
There were more?!!! I ALWAYS read animal books in school and found Bunnicula. I thought it was so cool. Checked it out all the time. Then I graded out to middle school and haven't thought about that book until I saw they made a show of Bunnicula. And now I see this! I know Good Friday was last week but it looks like it spilled over to this Friday. Thank you for this
DarthBster@reddit
There's also 3 more not pictured: Return to Howliday Inn, Bunnicula Strikes Again, and Bunnicula meets Edgar Allen Crow. I read the first 5 and bought the last 2 for my daughter to read, she loves them.
DarthBster@reddit
Loved those books! I got my daughter into them as well, I purchased the last 2 in the series that I never read. Might have to take a stroll down memory lane and finish those too, haha.
WoefulKnight@reddit
Apparently there was a whole cartoon series too. Blew my mind when I found out about that.
lorenzo463@reddit
The cartoon is one of the funniest shows I have ever watched. It’s very loosely based on the books, and features a lot more supernatural hijinks. I will always watch when my daughter asks, and no matter how many times I’ve seen an episode, I will always laugh.
brzantium@reddit
I know I read Bunnicula, but I couldn't tell you anything about it except the obvious.
