I was going to buy a Colt Python today, now I got more choices.

They now come blued with the barrel length’s at 2, 3, 4.24, 5, 6, or 8 inches.
stranger-named-clyde@reddit
Personally 5” is a happy length for .357. It really fills out the magnum size handgun size while not being excessively long. If it was a hunting revolver 6-8” is what I’d aim for
GoonCabra@reddit
I can relate to the 2 inch model. That one’s for me.
Neutral_Chaoss@reddit
I would personally get the 4.24" you could still carry it and will be much better to shoot over a snubby.
Sad-Wave-4579@reddit
Get the 5” so you can yell COOOOORAAAAL!!
Brinderzon@reddit
is that why i think the 5" looks just right.
Wraith-723@reddit
3 would be my choice
Mymemesarewell@reddit
I wouldn’t buy one unless it was at least 4 inches but most likely I’d get a 6 inch
No-Sweet-3587@reddit
That 4.24 with some ivory grips would be hot. That 2 inch is also sick.
FixGreat4649@reddit (OP)
I’m debating on the 4.24.
gunplumber700@reddit
As a stranger on the internet imma give you my vote for the 4.24
tcheeze1@reddit
Anything over 4.5 is more than a handful. 🤣
Nyancide@reddit
I have a stainless 4.25, it's fantastic. very well balanced.
Spiritual_Emergency6@reddit
4.24" is more practical 6" is cooler
Desert-Eagle-Morris@reddit
I got a nickel-plated 4" for 995 Imperial Space Credits. I like the nickel better.
Carpenter-Jesse4570@reddit
Well. Because I’m a child. I’d go with the 8 inch. Because. Bigger is better right. But for practicality’s sake if your carrying, 4 inch ish would be good. I’m no expert though so take what I say with a grain of salt
EstablishmentFun8708@reddit
Aesthetically, the 2, 4, and 8 look the best to me. The 5' and 4.24 versions look ridiculous.
pennhead@reddit
A blued Python is perhaps the single most beautiful revolver on the planet… at least those from the 70’s & 80’s. I haven’t examined a new one. I had a blued Dan Wesson once, and it was beautiful as well, but didn’t surpass the Colt.
mtcwby@reddit
I'd buy a 2 just because I already have an original 4 and 6
SanguineWave@reddit
My new production anaconda has been a nightmare due to modern colts bad QC/processes. It turned into a showpiece only after their measly 1 year warranty ended.
GullibleRisk2837@reddit
My vote is 5. That barrel to grip ratio is just perfect
2Drogdar2Furious@reddit
Get the 4" and tell your wife it's the 8" 😉
Smokey_tha_bear9000@reddit
4” is the iconic .357 in general, but 2.5-3” full size revolvers just have an especially cool look. Long barrels are not it for me.
Outrageous-Button746@reddit
For mw eighter 5" or 4.24. But tend for 4.24 because its slightly more special
Acceptable-Face-3707@reddit
Why are you even buying a python if it isnt a stainless 6”?
disturbed286@reddit
A man after my own heart.
Although it looks like Colt is offering other options, 6" stainless is the only actual answer.
Acceptable-Face-3707@reddit
The 2” snubby and 6” blued are also acceptable buys because they are in black ops 1 and 2.
disturbed286@reddit
I mean I guess I'll allow that.
FixGreat4649@reddit (OP)
I got enough stainless guns, I want something different. Debating on 4.24.
Acceptable-Face-3707@reddit
I was just teasing because everyone knows the python from twd.
I fw the 2” ones theres just something about that big rib on a snubby barrel that does it for me.
Nigatron420@reddit
Nah, that blued 6" is straight from Black Ops 1 and it's calling my name 🥵
Acceptable-Face-3707@reddit
I like the 2” cause of the mob of the dead cutscene from bo2, mob is my favorite all time map especially since theres a wall-buy 1927 with a drum.
blackspike2017@reddit
You can lie to yourself but not to us.
RaggedEarth@reddit
To me the 5" is the best for two reasons. I think the proportions of the barrel to cylinder to handle size are the most aesthetically pleasing. And two I think it is the sweet spot for carry-ability and accuracy and power. you loose too much of both with anything less than a 4" barrel and anything over the 6" barrel feel unwieldy.
There will be no statistical performance difference between the 4.24 and the 5 but I think the extra .76 adds just the right amount of balance to the design. And I think the same can be said for going from the 5" to the 6" the difference in how the perform will be negligible. I do think there is quite the bump in both speed and accuracy of the rounds when you get to the 8" but by that point IMO you have a silly unbalanced looking gun.
But these are just my 2 cents.
tcheeze1@reddit
Geez, those prices are crazy. I think I could find an “original” used one cheaper than that.
Am I crazy?
BengalTiger556@reddit
6 inch is the only right answer for the Python.
Floridaman9393@reddit
The 5, 6 or 8 inch all look great. I don't think there is a wrong option.
Darc_vexiS@reddit
If your paying the same price for all you might as well get the longest barrel.
wtfredditacct@reddit
4.24" is the best of the python lengths
burntbridges20@reddit
I’m in a similar boat but I’m looking at every variation of S&W model 29 lmao
GenericUsername817@reddit
There is only 1 correct answer on a S&W Model 29, punk
burntbridges20@reddit
Actually he uses two in the movie lmao
GenericUsername817@reddit
Yes, but that was when the camera angle made the 6.5in look short so they substituted the 8 3/8" barrel for those scenes.
burntbridges20@reddit
I know, I know lol. I’m heavily leaning toward the exact movie model. I’m only second guessing myself because my lgs has a pretty good selection of S&Ws at good prices
FixGreat4649@reddit (OP)
If only I had more money lol.
burntbridges20@reddit
Same 😩 I just want to collect them all
GenericUsername817@reddit
I would go with the 4.25 or 5". I have a 6" S&W 586 and it is fun an all, but I wouldn't want to lug it around all day in the woods. So I think that a 4ish inch barrel would be nice compromise.
iraisecane@reddit
We can help
Bison_Reload@reddit
Ironic... I called Scheels probably 2hrs ago to reserve 6" stainless... prior to seeing this post.
Anonymous-Eagle@reddit
PLEASE buy the 2” lmao, anything longer is absolutely disgusting
fireman2004@reddit
Blued 6" is classy.
MembershipKlutzy1476@reddit
4.25 or 6in.
I've shot both and the six points like a finger and the added weight in the front helps with recoil.
Shoot 38's and it will be like a pop gun.
Congrats on a great choice.
RustToRedemption@reddit
Too many choices. Gotta buy them all.
Certain_Still_324@reddit
It's really powerful, specially against living things!
syllabbi@reddit
If you’re buying it for the name and aesthetics of a colt python, 6” is the way to go.
ReverendReed@reddit
I don't see the point of a 357 shorter than 4 inches.
4.25" or 5" would be my recommendation. The only reason I would go 6" or 8" would be for a larger caliber like .44 Mag or bigger.
RickGabriel@reddit
Personally I'd go for a 4.25 or 5-inch blued, or a 6-inch stainless (for those Rick Grimes vibes).
aabum@reddit
4.25" if you intend to carry. 6" if it will be a range toy or a hunting weapon. I'm fond of 6" barrels on revolvers. That said, the 4.25" Python looks perfectly proportioned. Either way, it's a beautiful work of art!
BeenisHat@reddit
buy it in Stainless and name it Corl.
nhgaudreau@reddit
6" is my favorite.
map2photo@reddit
I bet.
