Is this a scam? Transponder never got hung up when windshield was replaced. Sitting on dash

Yes, nationwide scam.
xxenoscionxx@reddit
Ya no official notice is gonna use the word “steep” or “have a great trip” lol
pakman82@reddit
i got one for a truck I had with me in Florida, for texas;, while I had a different truck in that part of Texas.. I aaaalllmooost paid it. but i called TexDot first ..
agreedis@reddit
I got an email from Fasttrak in the CA Bay Area today warning of this scam, but I received the text months ago, so they’re way behind lol
CaptianBrasiliano@reddit (OP)
Yeah, I thought so. Thanks.
LonleyWolf420@reddit
Your nuts for even clicking on it man
Don't click liks!
ScaryfatkidGT@reddit
I too was confused when these first started as I have EZ pass and had just got back from a long trip
But no it’s all a scam, the real way they contact you is Email or a letter
viertes@reddit
I get about 6 of these a month from different private numbers. Absolute scammy scam from scam-a-tron scamtropolis
Waisted-Desert@reddit
It's the scammiest scam to have ever scammed.
Leelze@reddit
They're so lazy about it, too. I've had a few in the past 6 weeks that were part of a group message.
xMyDixieWreckedx@reddit
I like to chat with the group.
"Hey guys, total scam"
Leelze@reddit
The first time I didn't even realize it was a group chat, I just said "Fuck off scammers" lol
xMyDixieWreckedx@reddit
Same. Mine are always in group texts so you know it is legit, lol
Largofarburn@reddit
When in doubt, look at the url
MsMoreCowbell828@reddit
How would they get your cell number?
CaptianBrasiliano@reddit (OP)
I dunno... how does that "Truckers Report" bullshit organization that always calls me and acts like they're gonna get me some job or something get my number? How does any bullshit scam or robo call place get my number? There's probably a database of CDL drivers somewhere they have access to. They have their ways and means.
HurriedLlama@reddit
They're not targeting CDL drivers in particular. They send them to everybody, even people who don't drive at all. They probably send them en masse to every phone number they can find or make up
Mindes13@reddit
Probably from .gov hacked site
Tangielove@reddit
Beware of clicking on the links as well. Never know if they attached a virus that might automatically download to your device.
agreedis@reddit
No worries! I saw you had posted a pic of the payment screen and that you had just posted it, so I only sent a few words in case you were going to pay lol
People all over the country are reporting getting these.
Mistermeena@reddit
The wording kinda gives it away too
theKleShay@reddit
But I thought nationwide was on my side? 😔
DarkR4v3nsky@reddit
They even sent a text to my 12 year old nephew that he needed to pay LMFAO.
agreedis@reddit
They sent me one a week after I went over a bridge. I have a transponder though, but I wondered if my info got leaked because it was really close in time
SharpDetail426@reddit
Yes there are about 6 or 7 variations of this text, they’re all scams
CorrectWhereas4999@reddit
Yes. It’s been going on forever.
https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/governor-hochul-warns-consumers-e-zpass-text-message-scam#:~:text=%E2%80%9CConsumers%20should%20know%20that%20E,%2D844%2D826%2D8400.
revelation6viii@reddit
Just drove through Tulsa and on there Highway alert signs there talking about not opening links because of the toll scam
TruckersAreBored@reddit
Yes major scam that’s going around
spallaxo@reddit
It's funny I owe a few thousand to NYS 🤣 in my car
skeletons_asshole@reddit
As a general rule, never trust anything with a URL that uses one of those cutesy “butt.fly” or whatever suffixes.
buttweasel76@reddit
Wow, they still take Diners Club?!?!
🤣🤣🤣
firemarshalbill316@reddit
I text back with dik pics
lonelyboy069@reddit
Yes scam, they got me once 😭😭
shaprisimo@reddit
Scam
GumbysDonkey@reddit
WHenever you see some fucked up link that makes no sense, it's a scam.
grundlemon@reddit
Scam. I get these as a non trucker who lives in a state with no toll roads afaik lol.
Wolf24h@reddit
The link gives it away
srbrega@reddit
The .ly domain in that link is Libya.
brakos@reddit
More likely they're just using that domain to hide, bit.ly redirect links have been a thing for decades now, this is probably similar.
Waisted-Desert@reddit
The problem is that some legit companies use url shorteners. I never expect a text message from anyone I owe money to, so that's how I know it's a scam.
supermarble94@reddit
That's why you log onto the website through google and check for status on whatever it is there. I got a scam text from someone claiming to be Fidelity with a 1095 form, the link even said Fidelity and I used to have an account with them several years ago. Clicked on it and it brought up a home page that looked like Fidelity. So I went to google Fidelity, logged into the actual website, and sure enough, my account had been inactive for several years, they had nothing for me.
the_micromanager@reddit
Not saying anything about OP specifically, but I feel like far too many people have forgotten basic internet sense when it comes to things, specifically clicking on links and documents that look weird or suspicious.
COATHANGER_ABORTIONS@reddit
It's usually a group chat with other people, so I make sure I respond and tell people not to click the link because it's a scam.
Responsible_CDN_Duck@reddit
Most never learned it
the_micromanager@reddit
Fair enough.
Leto_ll@reddit
Pls send full amount in walmart gift cards to Thegovernment.ru or go to prisons!
Acrobatic_Ocelot_461@reddit
I get them, no ez pass in my state, but I owe money. It's all BS
Inker0@reddit
Best way I've learned to describe it is, if its some sort of thing like this you will just get mail about the money you owe. They wont text you.
CausticLogic@reddit
Scam. It is going around. Look at the address. If, and I stress if, a toll operating authority were going to text you, would they use a general domain? That is a .ly domain that Joe Blow can register. Ignore it.
upsidedowntime69@reddit
Seems legit. You should give them access to all your bank accounts and refer them to your friends and family so they don't get in trouble too.
SuperChaos002@reddit
One way to tell a scam is the use of unnecessary capitalized letters.
For example, "Pay Now" at the bottom is an immediate red flag.
SpecialSeparate6028@reddit
Yes, if you are unsure if there is actually a toll, call them.
okron1k@reddit
absolutely a scam.
DrSideShowbob@reddit
There are toll scams going around. If you are a company driver that text would in no way make it to you. Transponder is under company name.
If you are a owner. Dont click any links. Call ez pass directly. Not the number from the link.
I get unpaid toll messages often but my Transponder is from the company. I called ez pass and they said its not from them. Also have Ohio tolls texting. Call them and they said same thing. Its all scams
Aggressive-Act-3620@reddit
The phone at my work that is an iPhone that people call to check in for their groceries has gotten this text. That phone hasn’t left the store since this service started
AstroSonicDrive@reddit
I got my CDL a month ago. I will start driving next week, and I received one of these text a week ago
Stunning_Sentence_40@reddit
Scam ez pass will never text you or email about unpaid tolls, how do you think they make any money at over charging you for non payment
Maleficent_Beyond_95@reddit
My PrePass/EZPass thing has never been stuck to the windshield of my current truck. Still works fine.
Hypnowolfproductions@reddit
Note the EZ pass also has your plate number attached to it. And the toll scam is very common. I get like 5 similar a month. And check the pass balance if it’s yours. See if you’ve been charged. Also only go to the official site of EZ Pass.
Note that link is not anything official. It’s very not official. Just clicking on one of those links can infect your phone. So report and delete it quickly. Though I usually take a screenshot and email it to the said toll authority to track the scammers.
EatLard@reddit
My ELD gets these texts all the time. There are no toll roads where I drive.
Wonderful_County8169@reddit
SCAM ALERT!!!!! Don’T YOU DARE TO CLICK ON THAT STUPID LINK! Thats a SCAM!
Nero-Danteson@reddit
Company driver who doesn't pay tolls (except one and that was because the stupid toll gate didn't read the ez pass, immediately reimbursed). I wouldn't worry about it. Especially if you don't pay tolls to begin with.
Pass_Me_That_Phone@reddit
Probably a scam I don’t even live anyway where there is tolls and get these text all the time was gonna post a screenshot but can’t post a picture.
ccbrandon2@reddit
Looks legit. Better pay it or else
CobraWasTaken@reddit
As an aside, I had mine on my dash after getting the windshield replaced and drove with it like that for a bit. I found that it actually works fine, so I've left it there and never had an issue since.
eaglescout225@reddit
Yup scam, got two in the past three days.
Nghtyhedocpl@reddit
I get that text. Live in Canada and came off the road 25 years ago. I block them.
stedfastjem1999@reddit
Scam as fuck my guy
GravitationalEddie@reddit
Learn how to read URLs.
Jaded_Customer_8058@reddit
Scam…
Cockx8@reddit
I don’t drive my local toll roads very often. What’s really creepy is that I get these scams and they actually state a day I was driving on the road. So how does that happen. Inside job? Or does someone have access to dmv data?
g0d_help_me@reddit
I got one of those, and I 1) don't run any toll roads, and 2) don't have any versions of a prepass.
SnowyHawke@reddit
Scam. Go to E-ZPass website and check if you wish. Do NOT use the link in the text.
Marzy2016@reddit
"we can not provide detailed information before you pay" immediately a scam. There's nothing in this country where you have to pay for it before seeing an itemized break down. Literally nothing.
Soft-Peak-6527@reddit
Wait to get something in the mail or they’ll let you know if you have unpaid parking, tolls, or driving tickets when you try renewing your cars registration. Well at least happened to me in Texas a few years ago
nastyzoot@reddit
Lol. C'mon driver. Your DMV record is gonna get frozen? Wtf does that even mean?
vinchenzo68@reddit
Scam
blissvillain@reddit
I’ve been getting them from +63 (Philippines) numbers periodically since the winter.
MidnightMStorm@reddit
Of course not, the attached link looks very legit, you definitely should pay.
HippieJed@reddit
Total scam I got one this week and I don’t even remember being on a toll road in my personal vehicle for the last 10 years
vizarhali@reddit
They said they were going to arrest me and seize my things..... still waiting on that (it's a scam)
Gromieee@reddit
Posts like this is the reason why my company sent out a fleet message telling us COMPANY drivers to not fall for these messages. It’s crazy how gullible people are man. It’s like watching the elderly freak out because a pop up said their computer has a virus and they need to click this link to contact microsoft support🤣 Internet safety 101 people
Keepitup863@reddit
They do not communicate through txt
Stonegen70@reddit
Seems legit. Lolololol
IndividualHurry1342@reddit
ABSOLUTE SCAM!
Burnsie92@reddit
If you think you may have tolls go to the ex pass website through your own search. Log in and check.
Everheart1955@reddit
Absolutely.
SuccessAutomatic6726@reddit
If it does not specifically identify you by name, account number, vehicle and License plate number , it’s a scam.
And even with that I would be double checking it all unless that is how you set up your payment plans with them.
MRLNRomeroMatt@reddit
Why would they have your phone number?
beastinron@reddit
This is a scam! Don't click on the link!
Ian_Death@reddit
Look at that link no self respecting company would even send a link looking like that I use this logic on any should I click this question
Screamingevil@reddit
Scam
Immediate-Fly-7876@reddit
Jesus you seriously gotta ask?
Pristine-Today4611@reddit
For one a truck toll is more that $10 lol
owlsleepless@reddit
Yes nationwide indeed 👏 never pay your bills ever let them come to you in person
Mernack64@reddit
It’s a scam
robexib@reddit
You didn't give them any money, did you?
CaptianBrasiliano@reddit (OP)
No. I was just looking at it, thinking it was probably BS and wanted to confirm my suspicion here..
robexib@reddit
Yeah, toll companies will mail you, not text you. Always assume unsolicited texts from unknown numbers are looking to steal your shit.
PoultryFarmer2023@reddit
I get a couple of these a week, delete and report or delete Mark as spam
cliowill@reddit
That unofficial website is a dead giveaway
ThanksALotBud@reddit
I got the same one a few hrs ago with a group chat of random numbers
IBringTheHeat1@reddit
Do you guys think people who barely speak English fall for these crimes. Their own countrymen really be taking advantage of em.

SiliconSam@reddit
Probably??
Meatsweetsonmygrill@reddit
It’s a scam. I keep getting these from MA but I’ve never been there.
Severe-Island-845@reddit
Yeah I get those scam texts too
Infamous_Mirror2544@reddit
The privacy laws disclaimer should’ve been the first clue lol.
But overall it’s a definite scam.
Anxious_Ad909@reddit
Do you actually owe fines or is this the same scam we've all gotten? I received a few text that look exactly like this and I would dare open that BS link. Your phone is probably already corrupted
CaptianBrasiliano@reddit (OP)
It's a company truck. Wouldn't something like this go to them? And if this was legit, why do they seem to know nothing about me until I enter credit card info. "Due to privacy" Seems like a fishing expedition to me...
BouncingSphinx@reddit
Yep, you’re exactly right. They’re just after your card info.
1) nothing like this would come to you personally, especially over text
2) the link, if it was legit, would show as something with ezpass or similar, not a link shortener like bitly or apparently cuttly
3) a legit link would absolutely show you details before payment so that you could verify what you are paying for
Bald-Eagle39@reddit
It’s a scam.
Edge2110@reddit
Scam
PsychologicalFood780@reddit
You can't possibly be this gullible

Smart-Jeweler2284@reddit
Scam
LuRkEr_ReKuL@reddit
I get these and have never gotten an e-z pass. I don’t have tolls where I live so yeah, safe to bet it’s a scam. I’d bet YOUR license on it.
xDoomKitty@reddit
Official govt or govt adjacent agencies do not communicate through text. Usually only through mail.
yak_danielz@reddit
lol i wonder which privacy law a payment unlocks. look into it /s
FileCareless@reddit
It would be a .gov link of some sorts if it was real. Got my 1st message like that last year
psychedelicdonky@reddit
Scam and the fact that you clicked the link frightened me! Never click anything if there is the slightest suspension of fraudulent things.
Spankpocalypse_Now@reddit
I’ve gotten seven of these in the past 48 hours.
Commander-K9@reddit
Scam.
ShakeAgile@reddit
Yes scam. The domain name of the URL is the dead giveaway
MNGraySquirrel@reddit
Scam
Ironbutt1500@reddit
I get the same stupid bullshit every month.
Elite_Slacker@reddit
Ez pass url would not be a string of nonsense. How would they even have your phone number anyway?
HollowMonty@reddit
Yes.
santanzchild@reddit
Are you an O/O who personally set up the prepass you use in your truck?
If not how is it you think they know that truck is the one you are driving and what your phone number is?
Come on man a little critical thinking.
-Helicopter-@reddit
This is 100% a scam, I've never received texts like this from 407 and I've gone like 6 months without paying them
Pastorfuzz69@reddit
Yes, it’s a scam. Been going on for at least 3 months in my area
Fifthwheelman@reddit
It’s a scam I keep getting them for states I haven’t been to in years
