12600K @1440p in 2025 -> upgrade or...?

Howdy. I'd love to refresh my fiancee PC for her birthday. She owns Intel Core i5 12600K, DDR4 memory + RTX 4080 rn.
RTX 5080 is already on the way and I wonder if upgrading this Core i5 to faster CPU makes sense. I mean she's using that PC for both gaming (1440p) and some video rendering. Any suggestions? New Intel CPUs suck a bit, so maybe new AMD Ryzen would make sense? Or just save money for next gen CPUs?
Thanks!

I run 1440p with an 4070ti and upgraded from a 12600k to a 9800X3D it made a big difference for me, both in 1% lows and average FPS, everything just feels more smoothe now.

That's a good insight, thank you so much!

It's not a terrible bottleneck, but if you do have the money, I would definitely go am5 with a 9800x3d. Would pair amazingly with the 5080.

Thank you!

Cancel the 5080 and just buy a 5090

I am getting it for free. Can't get 5090, but I would love to. :)

You be better off returning the 5080 since it's a marginal upgrade and buying a 9800x3d and AM5 mobo for half the price

I rather not return things I get for free, cause I will get 0 dollars back. I was asking about CPU upgrade, not comments about GPU I am getting. :D
So you're suggesting 9800X3D is the way to go? It's 625 USD in my region of the world with tax - worth it?
neonux123@reddit
I would upgrade to either the 9800x3d or the 9950x3d and leave the 4080. I know you'll need to change the MoBo as well but makes more sense than changing the GPU. My 2 cents...

Ddr4 is a big liability for 12th gen gaming performance. Loses a lot of juice compared to ddr5.

... I only just upgraded *to* an i5-12400F ;_;

4080 to 5080 is only 10-15 percent not worth the upgrade imo.
12600k is still fine
Artemis732@reddit
why on earth is she upgrading from a 4080 to a 5080? also, a 12600k is fine for 1440p, no?

bro asking the real question

12600k + 4080 is more than capable for 1440p gaming. overclock the 12600k to 5Ghz, and its a beast.
If thats still not enough, go for a DDR5 Motherboard, and a x3d processor, and it will be a great build for years.
