Can we make a no trucks in the express lane law?

I live in Benbrook, have had to commute to Dallas all week for work. Every day I’ve been stranded behind a semi doing 55-60 mph in the one lane in between DFW Airport and 35E with a line of cars behind us. Why is this allowed? It’s supposed to be an express lane, not travel the same speed as everyone else for $7 lane.
Particular-Guide7065@reddit
We Have one but since the influx of invaders from, we don't enforce it anymore
HellcatTTU@reddit
Even better. If the road is three lanes or wider, they shouldn’t be in the far left/passing lane. Stay to the two inside lanes.
--Knowledge--@reddit
I see "No trucks in left lane" signs all over Dallas but many ignore them. It's not ALL areas but I see them all the time and no one follows the signs.
RepulsiveInterview44@reddit
I drive 635/20 every day and see semis in the left lane coming and going. Realistically, what kind of enforcement exists on this?
toastagog@reddit
There's no enforcement because that law doesn't exist. There are certain sections of highway that have it posted right up there with the exits, but if it doesn't say it, it's not illegal.
KrazyWhiteBoi@reddit
I don’t know where you got your law degree, but you need to go back for a refresher course.
toastagog@reddit
https://onlinemanuals.txdot.gov/TxDOTOnlineManuals/TxDOTManuals/smk/restricted_truck_lanes.htm
Maybe this will clear it up? It's NOT a law.
JDM_TX@reddit
I drive 35E for my weekly commute. I can tell you that through Desoto / Lancaster area, they have a cop who has the certifications to pull over and check semis. They do pretty regular business pulling over rock haulers.
JRLDH@reddit
There isn’t traffic law enforcement on 635 period. It’s the wild west.
Sad-Ambassador-2748@reddit
Enforcing this and texting and driving would do a hell of a lot more for traffic flow and safety than speeding enforcement.
paralleliverse@reddit
It's illegal for trucks to drive in the left lane anywhere in Texas. The signs are more of a reminder.
--Knowledge--@reddit
So basically the majority of truck drivers just straight up ignore the law?
I've also seen the "End Trucks in Left Lane" signs as well. What's the reasoning of these signs?
CyrusTheRed@reddit
This person is talking out of their ass, there is no such law. And the whole 'End trucks in left lane' crap is just wishful thinking of millions of city drivers who think public highways are their personal express lanes. The same ones who pretty much got their licenses free with a box of Lucky Charms and now rage when a 40-ton rig doing its job delays them by a whole two minutes. Heaven forbid the people literally delivering the goods they’re rushing home to buy use the road safely and responsibly.
This is just weak-af scapegoating. Sure, let's all blame the professionals who are trained to operate giant machines under strict legal regulations rather than admitting you left late and can’t handle the consequences of your own terrible time management. But hey, y'all keep honking harder, maybe that’ll make traffic laws rewrite themselves just for you.
Homey-Airport-Int@reddit
Why is this professional going 50mph in an express lane when the highway has no traffic? Are we just not trained well enough to comprehend how this is anything but idiotic?
CyrusTheRed@reddit
Incredible detective work here. You saw the back of a tanker truck on the internet concluded the entire operation was idiotic. Bold. I guess we can all just toss out the decades of DOT regulations and hazardous materials training; turns out all we needed was one blurry photo and a gut feeling from someone behind the wheel of a commuter car.
Go back and look at the picture, you can’t see what’s in front of that truck, but somehow you’re certain it’s empty road and not a slower vehicle, construction, or you know the mandated safe following distance for a rolling bomb (Groendyke hauls ALOT of fuel). Also wild how no one ever considers that semi drivers are often under routing orders from their companies or insurance policies. But I get it. A brief moment of inconvenience must be someone else’s incompetence, never your impatience so let’s reduce all that to “bad training” because it makes you feel clever.
LittleTXBigAZ@reddit
Professionals? Like the professionals that get churned out by the Stevie Wonder Institute for Trucking? Or the professionals dropping piss bombs? Don't romanticize truckers; they're entitled assholes like so many of the rest of us.
CyrusTheRed@reddit
Oh, I get it. You saw a couple bad apples and now you think you’ve cracked the entire trucking industry wide open. Real Pulitzer-level investigative work there. Never mind that truckers are operating 80,000-pound machines under constant legal scrutiny, face fines and career-ending penalties for the tiniest mistakes, have their hours tracked down to the minute with logbooks, and get pulled over for random full-vehicle inspections that would make your average commuter cry for their mom.
Meanwhile, you’re out here pretending the real menace is a dude with a CDL trying to safely merge while half the Class C crowd you defend can’t even signal before cutting across three lanes because brunch starts in fifteen minutes.
You are not offering a serious critique. You are whining because your worldview can’t see past the windshield of your Civic. Try spending a week living under the rules, responsibilities, and risks professional drivers manage daily. Until then, maybe sit this one out. You’re not playing with the full rulebook.
LittleTXBigAZ@reddit
Joke's on you, bud. I've had a CDL. I've seen people get pushed through the program. I know what rules they're supposed to be following that get completely ignored in the name of "keeping the nation moving".
I gave up on defending all of the bad drivers because I know they don't care enough to learn better and because I know trucking companies keep churning them out. I'd suggest you do the same. I got rid of that stain on my driver's license as soon as I didn't need it for work.
CyrusTheRed@reddit
Oh, so you had a CDL once. Congratulations, you are a retired mall cop who thinks having worn the badge once means you are automatically an authority on policing the world. You did not leave the industry enlightened. You left bitter and decided that sneering at the people still doing the job somehow puts you above them.
You are not special because you gave up and started throwing stones from the sidelines. You are just another ex-driver who could not hack the grind and now needs to convince yourself it was everyone else who failed, not you. The reality is most drivers out there are still grinding under stricter regulations, heavier inspections, harsher penalties, and far more public scrutiny than the average Class C tourist will ever see.
You decided the whole thing was beneath you. Fine. But spare everyone the fake moral high ground. You are not some grizzled insider blowing the whistle. You are just another person who quit and now wants a participation trophy for it.
betterlogicthanu@reddit
More like 5ish minutes for each truck, so 3 trucks doing this shit is up to a 25-30 minute delay in your commute for hundreds of people.
Fuck off.
CyrusTheRed@reddit
If you’re blaming a 30-minute commute delay on three trucks, you’re wildly exaggerating or ignoring the bigger issue: poor traffic planning, bad infrastructure, and drivers who clog every lane without any understanding of flow control. Trucks are not rogue drivers; they are following state laws that explicitly allow left lane use for passing and turning unless posted otherwise.
You are also assuming the "flow of traffic" always equals safe, legal driving speeds. It doesn’t. A bunch of commuters doing 85 in a 65 is not normal traffic; it is a herd ignoring the law. Trucks are limited for very real safety reasons: physics, stopping distance, and risk mitigation. Demanding that an 80,000-pound vehicle floor it just to satisfy impatient Class C drivers is not just unrealistic, it’s dangerous.
Nobody wants trucks camping out in the left lane. Any driver who does that, commercial driver or otherwise, is already violating the law. But pretending trucks should never be in the left lane at all, even when making lawful, necessary maneuvers, shows a surface-level understanding of traffic law and an even worse understanding of basic road safety.
WigglingWeiner99@reddit
This is why people don't want trucks in the left lane:
https://dallascarcrash.com/13-vehicle-pileup-on-i-30-bridge-over-lake-ray-hubbard/
Doesn't matter how trained you are if a crash can cause your truck to flip over the barrier and injure a bunch of people.
CyrusTheRed@reddit
Accidents like that are tragic, no question, but using one incident to argue that all trucks should be banned from the left lane is like saying no one should own a car because a Camry once ran a red light. CDL drivers are required to log around 200 hours of professional training before they’re even allowed to sit behind the wheel of a semi (unless it's a farm exemption). That’s miles more than the few hours it takes most people to get a Class C license at 16 and go joyriding through rush hour in daddy's BMW.
No, not every trucker drives perfectly. But neither does every commuter weaving through traffic at 85 while texting and sipping Starbucks. If anything, we should all be paying a little closer attention to the laws and the road. Blaming all professional drivers for the failures of infrastructure, weather, or human error from any single motorist is just scapegoating.
ExcuseMyCarry@reddit
Hey Driver, understand that these people you're arguing with aren't entering the conversation on good faith. Like most people these days they are stupid, selfish, and entitled. They only want to complain that they can't drive 25+ the speed limit and aggressively put themselves and others at risk. I appreciate you trying to open the dialogue, but these people will not listen. Just keep trying to drive safe and let them keep killing themselves around you with their poor driving practices. Everybody sees the accidents that happen daily but assumes that it will never happen to them. At this point I've lost my empathy for this selfish behavior and just pray that they don't take me out with them.
betterlogicthanu@reddit
Those accidents mainly happen because of idiots that are going too slow and other people trying to pass them.
There is nothing unsafe about driving 90 mph on the highways here.
ExcuseMyCarry@reddit
People literally die because of people like yourself. You don't care and I will convince you of nothing.
CyrusTheRed@reddit
Appreciate you friend! You’re totally right of course, most folks don't care to learn or understand, they’re just mad the world doesn’t clear a lane for their ego. I’ve long accepted that trying to reason with them using logic and sources is like teaching algebra to a brick wall.
But hey, I enjoy arguing with idiots. It’s a hobby at this point. Keeps the blood pressure up and the mind sharp. In the meantime, keep on keeping on friend, and keep an eye out for the ones who think being late to brunch or beating a red light is worth weaving through 80,000 pounds of steel like it’s a video game. Stay safe out there!

Source?
Texan527@reddit
Wrong!
CyrusTheRed@reddit
Ah yes, the ancient Texas law carved into stone: “Thou shalt not truck in the left lane.” It's only illegal where posted, not everywhere, I assume you are referring to Texas Transportation Code § 545.051(b) which actually applies to everyone on the road and stipulates that vehicles must drive in the right-hand lane when traveling slower than the normal speed of traffic (something nearly all drivers could use some work on in this state), but hey, why let facts get in the way of sounding confident while being completely full of shit?
Altruistic_Guess3098@reddit
No it's not And I would like you to provide your source if you believe it is
mts6175@reddit
Professional steering wheel holder here. That sign is for the non-toll lanes....
Reddit_Bot_Beep_Boop@reddit
Even in Fort Worth we have signs on all the freeways here saying no trucks in left lane. Not only was there multiple trucks in the left lane today, but the car directly behind it, police. Nothing happened.
JeepingTrucker@reddit
The "No Truck Left Lane" only applies to specific sections on certain roads, it is not a blanket rule for the entire county or state. Usually in sections of high traffic where the road is 3 lanes or more in the direction of travel. You will not see that apply where the road has 2 lanes moving in the same direction.
-Source: I have been a truck driver for 15 years and driven every main road in the state of Texas and the DFW metroplex for years.
Texas is what's known as a "Right Lane Traveling" state. This rule applies to ALL vehicles on the right of way (roadway). You are not supposed to be hanging out in the left lane, it is for passing only, hence the signs everywhere that say "Left Lane for Passing Only". But I guess that doesn't apply to y'all little 4-wheelers while you scroll Facebook and Instagram behind the wheel. But y'all ain't ready for that discussion.
Don't believe me? Ask any cop or sheriff.
DelTheInsane@reddit
This is the problem. It's not enforced. Then again, it feels like most traffic laws aren't these days.
LittleTXBigAZ@reddit
Don't be afraid to do a little enforcement yourself. Get in front of a truck, very slowly and gently ease yourself down in front of them, and then when you pass a "no trucks in left lane" sign, be sure to reach out and point up to it. It definitely gets the point across.
vegieburrito@reddit
Even better, get rid of Express lanes all together so there will be more lanes in the highway. Can you tell I hate the existence of Express Lanes?
bagfka@reddit
Adding more highway lanes does not solve the issue either way
Altruistic_Guess3098@reddit
Getting rid of the toll lane forces the wealthy to deal with the same traffic the rest of us face..If they never have to face traffic they will never truly want to fix it
bagfka@reddit
Like the wealthy 18 wheeler in the pic?
CherrySteele@reddit
That 18-wheeler driver isn't paying the tolls, the customer buying whatever they're hauling pays the tolls. Same as when you see electrical and plumbing companies driving company trucks and vans on the toll roads, we pass that cost on to the customer in our invoice.
JeepingTrucker@reddit
Wrong, the owner of the truck pays the tolls, along with a Highway Use Tax for every mile that truck drive on every road in every state per quarter. Your little gas tax doesn't even compare to what we as truckers pay. You're in our house. We aren't in yours.
bittybubba@reddit
Shhhhh Reddit hates it when we talk about public transit instead of ever-widening highways.
zHydro@reddit
No Reddit fucking doesn’t. Have you ever been on this sub before?
bittybubba@reddit
Jesus Christ, overreaction much? Calm the fuck down, it’s not that deep.
redd_hott@reddit
It’s not that deep. The new cop out for actually having a discussion. You’re cute lol
bittybubba@reddit
Discussion of what? This was never going to be a “constructive conversation” or anything like that. I made a joke, someone didn’t like it and came in hot, I pointed out that it’s not that deep because…it’s a joke. wtf am I copping out of? Seems like you’re just as pressed over nothing as that guy.
redd_hott@reddit
I couldn’t care less it’s just a phrase that everyone uses to not care about anything or get out of things they say. It’s a cop out phrase.
bittybubba@reddit
Sure it’s a cop out in some situations. Others really just are not that deep. Maybe try reading the situation to see if the response is actually applicable before inserting yourself into something that really isn’t that deep
zHydro@reddit
If it wasn’t that deep you wouldn’t have written the original comment with such conviction. The reason you’re backpedaling is because someone called you out and you can’t back it up.
bittybubba@reddit
First, what “conviction” are you referring to? I made a joke, you got pissy about it, I told you to calm down. There’s no backpedaling, dude. My response to the other guy who initially disagreed with me was just sharing my experience. If you disagree with that experience, that’s fine, but you don’t have to get so goddamn butthurt over it, just say you disagree and move on.
The fact that you’re still coming after me over this is just weird. Go touch some grass and get off Reddit. I’m not gonna respond to you again
zHydro@reddit
Inject it into my veins
zHydro@reddit
You’re right. It’s not. Don’t let redditors cut you so deep
SuccotashOther277@reddit
Not true. Just one more lane bro is commonly used on Reddit to mock highway expansion. Speaking of which 635 East is way behind schedule
bittybubba@reddit
On certain subreddits, yes. That does not apply to all of them, and in my experience, specifically not the subreddits tailored to any and everyone in a certain geographical area. “Just one more lane bro” shows up in left-leaning political subs, not city specific subs. At least from what I’ve seen 🤷🏼♂️
zHydro@reddit
If “on certain subs” is true, then “Reddit hates…” is automatically incorrect.
vegieburrito@reddit
It totally does. There are bottlenecks where they cut the highway down to a couple of lanes. If the express lane was gone with the barriers they could possibly get 4 lanes each side.
bagfka@reddit
https://www.ucdavis.edu/magazine/does-widening-highways-ease-traffic-congestion#:~:text=Research%20proves%20that%20when%20roads,the%20cycle%20of%20traffic%20continues.
No it doesn’t. It’s been scientifically researched. All expanding it does means is my 30 min commute from 20 miles away is now 30 min commute from 25 miles away. Now that my commute is further it means why live closer when my money can do more further? Now I live farther out. Someone comes and takes my house. Or hell someone just moves out there for a job in the city.
That scenario should sound a lot more familiar. Hint: it’s why every suburb exists ever
JRLDH@reddit
No. Make them even more expensive.
They are perfect if time is important. If you make them free, they’ll be just as congested as the rest of the highways and you lose an important option.
I really like the option to pay $50 or more to bypass traffic in the rare case where I have little time. 99% or more of my time, I am perfectly fine sitting in traffic. Having an expensive and therefore available option to bypass traffic is great.
And yes, it’s “unfair” to people on a budget but that is our system. Money enables.
vegieburrito@reddit
No offense but fuck that system. We shouldn’t be able to pay more to get a faster trip, especially at the expense of everyone else. Just like the voucher system in Texas that thank god got voted down.
CherrySteele@reddit

SMF67@reddit
They shouldn't exist and you generally don't see new ones get built
MSUrugby64@reddit
But they still do exist.
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
Completely agree.
supavillan@reddit
I mean after the second day you could have just not taken the toll way ?
Goetia-@reddit
Set a minimum speed limit. Set an acceptable timeframe on how long a vehicle should take to crossthrough toll checkpoints based on that minimum speed limit. The first vehicle that misses this checkpoint minimum time is issued a significant penalty charge. Each continuous vehicle after it that also misses the checkpoint minimum is fully refunded. Extenuating circumstances due to accident or mechanical failure are exempt.
xmby_@reddit
I don't like using them. Company says use them. Don't wanna be in front of you either, but I like getting paid.
Sorry.
Relaxmf2022@reddit
Welcome to my nightmare—amazing how many people in cars slow down because they’re so scared
Flaky-Literature3762@reddit
Absolutely. Tolls are so dang pricey nowadays too that having a slow truck block you or breakdown and cause huge delays on the tollway is just not fair
Chance-Nerve9882@reddit
Yeah, it's almost as bad as drivers being on their phone taking pictures while driving
UnreliableCarsAreFun@reddit
Yeah.. i wish they would make a no being on your phone while driving 60+mph on the high way but hey..
nick_soccer10@reddit
They will probably follow that law as well as you follow not being on your phone while driving….
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
So far they haven’t for me or anyone else, same with you probably driving 30 over the speed limit.
nick_soccer10@reddit
Umm… what?
commanderbenjamin@reddit
As a truck driver who drives a truck governed at 65mph, I can promise you I will continue to use the toll lane if it means bypassing a traffic jam. Not my fault some of them are a single lane.
nick_soccer10@reddit
Same….. we need to use the roads too…. I will 💯 take the toll to avoid dt traffic. But I promise not to cruise at 65 in the left lane
Stocky-Stocking@reddit
Why does this have 5 downvotes😂😂 people are so sad
JeepingTrucker@reddit
Im gonna preface this by saying my truck can do the posted limit. Most others and all major trucking companies are governed well below that, typically between 65-71. JB Hunt - 65, Prime-65, TMC-63, Swift -65, etc etc etc.
They'll never not allow trucks in the express lane because they make more off one truck than they do 5 cars. We pay per axle, y'all pay a flat rate. You little car drivers need to understand something. You don't pay for these roads. We as commercial vehicle drivers do. The Eisenhower Interstate Highway System wasn't intended for cars, it was specifically designed for the movement of military vehicles, weapon systems and transportation of goods. We pay a HUT (Highway Use Tax) on every mile we drive on every road in every state, per quarter. On top of that, we pay extra to utilize the toll roads. Your little bit of gas tax doesn't even hold a candle in the wind to what we pay. TRUCKS pay for these roads. That means you're in OUR house. Not the other way around. Don't like trucks? Quit buying stuff. Quit eating. Quit wearing clothes, buying cars, quit shopping, stop everything, go live in the woods and live off the land, forage for food, raise heep and weave your own fabrics, grow your own food and hunt and fish for the rest. Otherwise, we will continue to do our jobs and provide the transportation of the goods you use all day everyday, everywhere.
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
Good point of view. I wasn’t aware companies had governors on their trucks.
This isn’t limited to trucks. Actually on Friday I was driving the same stretch and it was a car backing all of us up. Including a semi truck behind them.
Still doesn’t help avoid the idiots both truck and car that drive 50 and hit the brakes at every slight curve causing backups and many pissed off drivers.
JeepingTrucker@reddit
Can't fix stupid.
Top-Tradition-Matrix@reddit
I’m convinced most of the TX road rage stems from trucks and other a-holes hanging out/impeding the flow of traffic in the left lane.
JRLDH@reddit
There are a lot of drivers on the road who love to police other drivers.
Virtually all pissed off drivers in my rear view mirror are guys (always guys) who camp out in the left lane going exactly the speed limit and are super upset if I pass them on the right and get agitated if I move into the left lane to pass another car in the middle lane (OMG, he is weaving through traffic!!!!!), ruining their policing.
It’s just weird. I likely upset these control addicts even on this forum, especially if I admit that I sometimes go a bit faster than the speed limit.
AngryyFerret@reddit
i mean
telling people to get out of the left lane is also policing drivers
both sides argue that what the other is doing is against the law
both argue that the others behavior is risky driving
just stay in your lane, literally, and be a focused and defensive driver without getting mad.
JRLDH@reddit
I’m not telling them to get out of the lane. I just move around them.
AngryyFerret@reddit
that’s fine then
so many comments on here are “get out of the left lane,” met with “don’t speed.”
JRLDH@reddit
I don't think that this is the same but I can understand that it looks the same to you.
One is actively trying to enforce speed limits by staying in the left lane going the exact speed limit, while it would be perfectly possible to move to the middle lane without any issue for them. Then they get visually and audibly mad (honking) if I pass them. That's policing.
The others like me are annoyed by this policing so they say "get out of the way".
That to me is the difference. I don't actively go out of my way to find people like you who want to make sure that people don't go 1 mph over the speed limit.
AngryyFerret@reddit
tf? where did i say that versus saying that both are policing?
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
Honestly I don’t pay any attention to the “policers”. If I’m in the left lane passing someone and I need to pass someone on the right I will.
If someone wants to risk their life driving 30-40 over, let them.
I believe it’s in Germany where it’s expected and I believe even legally required that all drivers stay in the farthest right lane unless passing. Definitely should be implemented here, but first you need to set a minimum speed limit and enforce it to wean out the idiots driving 45-50.
ExcuseMyCarry@reddit
Nope. Even with open highways people are still trying to drive 25+ the speed limit and have no caution for themselves or others. Road rage stems from a general lack of intelligence and selfish entitlement that most people suffer from.
betterlogicthanu@reddit
The lack of intelligence is not knowing that car accidents are proportional to the amount of time you are on the road, surrounded by other drivers, emotional investment where you feel like you should police others who are driving (like you giving a damn if someone is going 25+ despite it not effecting you at all)
AngryyFerret@reddit
if it didn’t affect anyone then there wouldn’t be speed limits. exception for 55s during gas shortages from the 70s and small town revenue traps
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
For me it’s having idiots in pretty much every lane driving 45-50 and then having people treat the far left lane like it’s sacred territory to go 30+ over.
OkayScribbler@reddit
Doubt it because they make the toll companies more money by slowing everyone down.
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
Yup. It’s all about $. Slow everyone down and raise prices more.
andrew_702@reddit
A slow down in the express lane doesn't seem like it benefits the toll company since their pricing is based on the traffic flow in the non express lanes.
More trucks in the regular lanes -> slower traffic in regular lanes -> higher price for toll lanes/more appealing to take the faster toll route -> profit$$$
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
What I think should happen is a minimum speed limit and if you can’t reach it don’t take the toll.
JeepingTrucker@reddit
Have you ever seen a minimum limit in any state? I have. They range from 40-60 mph, which nullifies your argument. The minimum limit is typically 20mph below the posted speed limit. So for a Texas express lane speed limit of 75, the minimum speed would be 55mph. Which is what y'all are bitching about the truck doing. Smooth.
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
As it was discussed on multiple other comments we suggested a Minimum speed limit on toll roads of 65 or 70.
It isn’t the trucks doing 65 that piss me off. They’re going at the max of their governor and I understand. It’s the ones that go 50 or slower or the cars that go 50 or slower braking at every slight curve causing backups that piss me off.
Agile_Definition_415@reddit
On the express lane there technically is
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
Interesting. Can you provide source?
Agile_Definition_415@reddit
So Texas law says the minimum is 45 mph on any highway and texpress tries to maintain a 50 mph average
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
Man that’s just too slow if you ask me, even on the mainlanes. In my opinion it should be 65-70 on the toll in the single lane section and 15 under whatever the speed limit is on main lanes.
strugglz@reddit
Technically that exists. If a vehicle is so slow as to be a danger on the road that's illegal.
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
Didn’t know that! Too bad police don’t enforce speed much anymore
Puskarich@reddit
We need law enforcement to do their jobs again. I almost never see traffic cops in Dallas County anymore.
I would fully support revoking DL's of people who do this, and fining the company they work for. Hell, each MPH they're under could be figured into lost revenue..
--Knowledge--@reddit
IDK. This year I've seen tons of traffic enforcement and I've been here 10 years. I was just pulled over on St. Augustine and Elam about a month ago for "failure to signal with proper distance" or something similar. I just got a warning. I put my signal on at the light instead of 100 feet before or something. That was my fault, I know the rules. I'm from a small town, those cops pull you over for EVERYTHING.
There have been multiple times this year driving from PG to Downtown on 75 and seeing 3-4 cops pulling people over for construction zone violations I'm assuming. All that construction at Lake June heading towards Bexar. I've never seen a cop pull someone over on the highway until this year.
Same with Buckner. Just last night they had a car being searched at Buckner and Elam at the 7-11. A few people pulled over by the Walmart and Fiesta as well throughout this month.
Small steps maybe?
ThatOneHelldiver@reddit
As a truck driver trying to do 75 in the express lane, I've been stuck behind plenty of 4 wheelers doing 55.
Gtfo the way. You literally paid money to go slow? For what? Go sit in regular traffic.
mikeee382@reddit
I'll get down voted for this, but 75 for single lane tollways is still really slow. Sorry bud, you still shouldn't be allowed in express lanes.
JeepingTrucker@reddit
And yet somehow, some Karen manages to do 55 while on her phone, driving in a straight line for 20 miles and still manages to wreck and hold everything up for 3 hours while they flip her car back over.
AngryyFerret@reddit
because some people just like less congestion
not everyone thinks like you
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
I completely agree. I know I called out truck drivers in my OP, but this is not just an issue limited to semis. I wish there was a minimum speed limit on express lanes. If ya can’t/aren’t comfortable driving that speed, get over with everyone else.
austindiorr@reddit
Nah just ban all truck drivers so you can starve to death, maybe you’ll learn some respect then
ziptietyler@reddit

I’m so tired of paying for the “express” lane when some idiot goes 55 in the 75 section, stop slowing down because it s a single lane if your to scared to go atleast the speed limit of the free road then use that.
I_shid_my_pants@reddit
If it’s a work van or truck, they aren’t going slow on purpose, most of them are governed
Sad-Ambassador-2748@reddit
I think that’s the point. They shouldn’t be there if they’re governed below the speed limit.
I_shid_my_pants@reddit
All commercial vehicles are gonna be governed somewhere between 61-70, every time I take the express lanes on 35E it’s a double lane, so I’m not impeding anything, but I’m also not stuck in a hour long delay.
Sad-Ambassador-2748@reddit
They shouldn’t be on single lane tolls if they can’t at least reach the speed limit. Double lane they’re still clogging but it’s not completely unpassable
kuyue@reddit
then don’t get on the express roads -_-
I_shid_my_pants@reddit
It’s to save time for all vehicles, I have to travel between Oklahoma City and Dallas weekly in a work truck. I always take the express lanes at 5 pm on I-35. Shits gridlocked and my company pays for the tolls. I don’t care, it saves a half hour.
New_Set7087@reddit
Yeah what a concept!
ziptietyler@reddit
Exactly what I was going to say
Natsuye2016@reddit
So does everyone else on the road. They have an incredibly hard job. One that is extremely important and under appreciated.
Look at everything you have around you and think about how it got there. How it got to where you bought it from. It was moved by someone driving a large truck all In the chaos of the roads that we drive on. And they do it everyday for employment.
Honestly, we should thank them every day becuase they literally keep our economy and livelihoods moving.
Top_Shape264@reddit
Yeah they don’t think about it and then complain why nothing is on the shelves

I'm fine? I'm just saying your analogy is terrible lol. Go read a book for once in your life and maybe you'll learn what an analogy actually is
tightbluesack@reddit
If it ain’t on the shelves, whose fault is it? Sounds like you used a bad comparison.
Top_Shape264@reddit
Maybe you are too simple I reckon
tightbluesack@reddit
That could be, since I once was a truck driver.
shacklefordRussTee@reddit
What does this comment have to do with why truckers should be entitled to impede the faster traffic?
LittleTXBigAZ@reddit
You know who hauls even more stuff and doesn't clog up the express lane? Railroads.
But seriously, GTFO of the express lane. I'm not gonna tolerate this for the "betterment of society" or whatever bullshit fantasy you have in your head because truckers aren't heroes.
paralleliverse@reddit
It's illegal for trucks to drive in the left lane in Texas, but they do it all the time anyway. We'll respect them when they respect our laws.
Altruistic_Guess3098@reddit
That's not true. Only if there's signage.
kaptainkkk@reddit
Exactly, only when there is signage. It's not an automatic law covering the entire state.
Altruistic_Guess3098@reddit
It always blows my mind how people speak with so much authority on subjects they clearly don't know

Directly from the Texas Transportation code:
Sec. 545.051. DRIVING ON RIGHT SIDE OF ROADWAY. (a) An operator on a roadway of sufficient width shall drive on the right half of the roadway, unless: (1) the operator is passing another vehicle; (2) an obstruction necessitates moving the vehicle left of the center of the roadway and the operator yields the right-of-way to a vehicle that: (A) is moving in the proper direction on the unobstructed portion of the roadway; and (B) is an immediate hazard; (3) the operator is on a roadway divided into three marked lanes for traffic; or (4) the operator is on a roadway restricted to one-way traffic. (b) An operator of a vehicle on a roadway moving more slowly than the normal speed of other vehicles at the time and place under the existing conditions shall drive in the right-hand lane available for vehicles, or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, unless the operator is: (1) passing another vehicle; or (2) preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway. (c) An operator on a roadway having four or more lanes for moving vehicles and providing for two-way movement of vehicles may not drive left of the center line of the roadway except: (1) as authorized by an official traffic-control device designating a specified lane to the left side of the center of the roadway for use by a vehicle not otherwise permitted to use the lane; (2) under the conditions described by Subsection (a)(2); or (3) in crossing the center line to make a left turn into or out of an alley, private road, or driveway.

Old_Dot_4826@reddit
I didn’t say they were barred from the left lane, im saying them being slow as shit 99% of the time they need to get the fuck out of the left lane
Altruistic_Guess3098@reddit
I agree with you, but you replied to a discussion about them not being banned from the left lane unless signs to indicate otherwise.
redd_hott@reddit
Can’t reason with entitled idiots. But they’d be complaining if what they wanted wasn’t in stock on shelves or their favorite greasy fuck fast food wasn’t available.
toastagog@reddit
I don't know why this is being down voted, it's literally true. Coming from someone that drove for years.
ExcuseMyCarry@reddit
Current Class A CDL driver. People are downvoting both of you because they are stupid, selfish, and entitled. They, like most people, aren't here for an honest discussion. They just want to rage about the fact that they can't drive 30+ over the speed limit and get themselves killed. I see road closures it feels almost bi-weekly over the number of idiots that choose to die on these roads instead of having any sense of caution in their driving.
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
Your comment is incorrect. I’ve read every single comment on this post and the majority are contributing to an honest discussion. Sure there are assholes that will rage about not being able to go 30+ over the speed limit, but there are plenty of others here that just wish to be able to drive the full 75 limit as they paid to do so.
ExcuseMyCarry@reddit
Is the truck not paying an exorbitant amount more to be on that toll road? You are not entitled to anything more than access to that ramp for the toll you pay. Does it suck that you can't make it to the speed limit? Sure. But this is a public road and sometimes you don't get to go the speed LIMIT. At most you lose a few minutes on your drive and people's impatience is constantly the death of them. I see it all the time. I apologize but a majority of this thread is just people crying that they can't speed. I don't have time for it and wish you the best none the less. Please take care and drive safely.
austindiorr@reddit
Haha next time you see a semi drive head on to it with your family since you don’t have any respect for them
Dick_Lazer@reddit
This is false. There's no specific laws applying to trucks driving in the left lane (they're covered under the same laws that applies to everybody else - don't use the left lane unless you're actively passing somebody or avoiding an obstacle, and move back to a right lane as soon as you're able to do so). TxDOT does allow for local governments to create their own restrictions, but there has to be posted signage about it if they do so.
Old_Dot_4826@reddit
I’ll thank the ones that don’t hog the express lanes and passing lanes. The rest can get fucked.
Fantastic-Formal-157@reddit
I respect working people, but come on. Everyone thinks they’re a hero now days no matter their job. Yeah, I get it, if nobody builds houses we’ll all be homeless. That’s why the job exists, it’s necessary.
kaptainkkk@reddit
Sorry for all the down votes bro but I agree that every fucking thing, I mean every fucking thing is ultimately delivered by a truck. But I like to drive fast and if I'm paying for it, trucks should not be allowed nor the assholes that drive 50-60mph like they are driving me daisy. It makes me livid.
austindiorr@reddit
You think the trucking companies don’t pay for it too? truckers have to make appointments to drop off food so your fat family can eat tonight
shacklefordRussTee@reddit
Your tone is weird. It’s not like truckers are doing something philanthropic…it’s a job that they are paid to do. Im super glad we have an infrastructure that affords me alllll the things. But I’m not going bow down and kiss their ass for being part of that system as their way of making a living
austindiorr@reddit
Every job is a “job paid to do”… if you were a trucker i promise you would take the tolls too, we have strict appointment times and we’re just trying to get our work done. The trucks don’t go fast as cars and can’t accelerate as fast, we aren’t going slow on purpose

Especially the single lane ones. It’s a scam when you pay $15 for the express then have to do 55 behind a truck the whole time
SmythRando@reddit
Nah keep all the entitled drivers in the crap express lane
skeletons_asshole@reddit
I go through it in mine with my foot to the floor, thank you.
Also I doubt they’ll ever stop us since we pay 8x as much.
That said, dick move for a truck to take the express when traffic is moving on the main area IMO, especially if governed. It’s one thing if they’re paying to get through traffic, another if they’re just slowing down the express lane for no reason.
anotheronedoesit@reddit
How about you people in dallas learn how to drive....
HiFiMarine@reddit
As long as they can charge for every axle this will never happen.
casingpoint@reddit
This should already be a thing. 18 wheelers in express is BS.
DougEDoug479@reddit
I hauled fuel in DFW for ~2.5 years and the Express Lanes are sometimes necessary. And for what it’s worth I don’t think it’s worth complaining about the segment of lanes between PGBT and 360 because it’s the only part that’s single lane. Gives us haulers a break, it’s a laborious job and a difficult ass profession in general hauling fuel around a metro area filled with selfish ungrateful mofos who honk at and constantly break check you for no apparent reason, necessitating the 18-wheeler use of toll lanes.
Upper_Television3352@reddit
Nope. Just pass him on the shoulder illegally like everyone else does.

How about a No Phones out while driving 60mph on the highway law.
thatmannyguy@reddit
They kick up rocks easier too, one of them cracked my windshield on the express lane!

Stocky-Stocking@reddit
Am I the only one who is aware of the “No cellphones while driving” law? How about we worry about the laws that are already in place and not worry about coming up with new ones when we cant even follow the simplest of laws.
Hulkenobi@reddit
Ugh! This again? Express just means you can bypass any traffic that might be in the way. It doesn't mean get to haul ass. I drive a truck that only goes 65 and i can say that I've gotten stuck behind plenty of cars that are going 55 or 60. Get over it and just drive.

clapped-out-cammy@reddit
No. Set a minimum speed limit of 70 and have it enforced. That will remove most semis from the express lane. I'm governed at 75mph and should have every right to use the express lane.
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
Hey man im all for trucks using it if they can drive the speed limit. Im for the minimum speed limit of 70.
smeggysmeg@reddit
The only long-term solution to traffic is viable alternatives to driving.
BoysenberryWestern74@reddit
I've laughed at myself when seeing the main lanes whizzing by looking over at us.. Your totally right. This should be a fine if they are on it because they are clearly impeding traffic.

Working-Reason-124@reddit
Yep I posted this exact issue before on other sub Reddit’s and got down voted or blocked for some reason
Not fair i pay a toll to use a lane for higher speeds and express time, i go slower then rest of normal traffic bc trucks go 60 mph in 70 zone.
They should be banned for sure.
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
I was honestly surprised I didn’t get cancelled. 😂

tempaccount521@reddit
They do it on purpose. Had one going 45-50 in front of me on Tuesday for the entire single lane portion, and then as soon as this fucker get's back onto the normal lanes guess what, he's suddenly going 70-75 and keeping pace with us after we sped up. I guess pissing 30-40 people off is worth $50 to these clowns.
stevil30@reddit
the reason is cuz they are texting. half the cars driving slow with uber amounts of space in front of them are on their phones. i drive 200+ city miles a day across the whole metroplex.
90% of traffic issues are people on their phones and/or driving slower than necessary.
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
This wouldn’t surprise me honestly.
Jeffreyknows@reddit
During a rainstorm today I was behind one thinking the lane is already small without a giant truck spraying water up everywhere. It was actually dangerous
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
Yep… it’s really narrow in that section… another reason why trucks shouldn’t be in there
TBikerFW@reddit
For reals. Or charge them $100 so our tolls will be cheaper…
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
Eh. They do already pay an exorbitant amount. All they’d do is go “oh we can charge the trucks more, let’s charge cars more too”.
Brilliant_Trifle5301@reddit
Yes!!! Please!! Make it a law. Many left lanes in the country where trucks are prohibited 🚫 driving in the left lane. That should be true for the damn express lane.
Emergency_Ad1152@reddit
As a truck driver, I would also like to get out of the left lane but so many slow fucks are going 50-60mph in the 2nd left, center lanes. They need to make it a law and enforce minimum speed limits. Slow drivers cause more accidents.
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
I honestly agree with you. In many other countries it’s known rule that everyone stays in the rightmost lane unless they’re passing.
betterlogicthanu@reddit
I literally spend my time here driving in the 2d to right line, and passing on the left lane. Thats how fucked traffic is here.
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
Yup. I’m usually in the middle lane or the second to left most lane if there’s 4 lanes because of the fools that wanna drive 50.
ItsHotDownHere1@reddit
At least your mpgs are going up
FW_nudist@reddit
Disagree!!! All big rigs serve a very important role in society. Let’s make the express lanes for big rigs only. Imagine how much more room we would have on the non toll lanes.
animal-1983@reddit
First find out how much your toll will increase to cover the loss of revenue from the truck ban. Most people don’t realize the exorbitant amount trucks pay for use of the express lane. You may not be so upset once you find out
justplainndaveCGN@reddit
Trucks should get their own dedicated and labeled lane. They should not be able to swerve around other trucks. They are dangerous and really should be in general traffic.
MeesterGnome94@reddit

HickoryRanger@reddit
YES! No trucks with more than 4 tires in the express/toll lanes.
ejperry135@reddit
No, they just need to expand all express lanes to 2 or 3 lanes. If you were a truck driver having to deal with Dallas traffic, you would ride express too.
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
I do agree that section was very poorly thought of. They should have taken a lesson from the I-30 express and made it two lanes but control which side gets it depending on the time of day.
nace71@reddit
If you're headed east, it's oftentimes good practice to jump off the express lanes right before it chokes down to a single lane. The majority of the time you'll get stuck behind either a truck going 60 or some idiot that slows down for traffic in the non express lanes. The only time you're better off in the single express lane would be between about 3 and 6pm and whatever peak traffic time is in the mornings.
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
Fair point. I’m going to try that tomorrow!
Falconpunch9999@reddit
Yes please
liswat@reddit
I agree! Then you can pay what I pay as a truck driver to use it.
Oppo_Tacos@reddit
Maybe try to see it from that Gas Tank drivers POV before you complain about it’s being an inconvenience for you. The driver is hauling very flammable fuel and during traffic people that don’t drive a commercial vehicle are very dangerous on the road for us CDL drivers. You give us no space and you jump in front of us like we can stop on a dime while hauling a load. Maybe that driver didn’t know that the Toll road went down to 1 lane as it’s leaving Irving and now he is stuck there going slower that the pile of cars behind him and his only wish is to get over out of everyone’s way. I also drive a big truck and I do feel bad when I can only do 65 max and people are stuck behind me but if they can’t seem to put up with it for that single stretch that is only 5 miles of one lane then they aren’t very understanding people to begin with so screw them cause it’s costing my company way more to be on this toll road than them.
ExcuseMyCarry@reddit
Love and good vibes Driver, but your argument will only fall on deaf ears. You see the selfish and stupid nature of your fellow man on the roads everyday. What makes you think they will be any more receptive to a view point that doesn't support their entitled worldviews? Just do your job and do it safely. These idiots will continue to destroy their vehicles and lose their lives over the pursuit of saving a few minutes on their commute. Let them.

liquidrichard6969@reddit
My solution fine them $1 per pound per mile an hour under the posted speed limit. That will knock that shit off real quick.

dbca2002@reddit (OP)
Literally. I don’t understand.
hiirogen@reddit
I agree with you in principle but I think they pay extra to use the express lanes and they’re all about profit
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
They definitely pay more, since they have more axles. That stretch of express is very poorly designed and is really narrow for a semi, and in general should have been two lanes at the very least.
Ok-Internet4142@reddit
This drives me nuts cutting through Las Colinas towards work. Do they not see the 75 mph sign and the 40 cars stacked behind them?
dbca2002@reddit (OP)

I think it's important, I mean remember these people are driving these giant awkward vehicles all over the country. I think the company pays for it, what we need is consistent speeds. It's actually just as dangerous to drive bellow the speed limit then to drive above and people need to obey the speed limit regardless if it's an express lane. Fuck the express lane
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
I agree. What should have really been done is more than one lane for the entire stretch. I agree the express is stupid but so is wasting hours of my day sitting in traffic in main lanes.
Better_Pineapple2382@reddit
Mopac 1 lane express is idiotic. I never take it, it’s usually slower than just driving on the non toll. You can’t pass the grandma driving 20 under since there’s only one lane
franky_riverz@reddit
I actually have never seen an express lane work, I remember when they made the one on 75 and it honestly just seemed to make more traffic with the construction which was ironic how it was intended to alleviate traffic and I have seen nothing but car crashes in that thing and they put these stupid white plastic dividers and the whole time I'm like, why didn't they just fucking leave it the way it was?

sowhatimdeadtoo@reddit
well realistically if you’re just getting on to bypass the traffic (obv the only reason you should be paying is if main lanes are stood still) isn’t 55-60 getting you home quicker still? While you’re probably right, it’d be lovely to ban them, just making it home at all is a blessing so the difference between an hour in the slow lanes versus 45 minutes is perfectly acceptable… Slow it down put on a pod and count your blessings once you pull in the drive, you’ll be worried about that truck a lot less.
dbca2002@reddit (OP)
Honestly, fair point and good perspective.
cactusflinthead@reddit
That stretch is a roll of the dice. Do I get in the the regular lanes and fight through a possible bog down at 360 and the Bush areas or do I risk getting behind some slower than molasses in January truck that can't get out of his own way?
