wild idea {maybe not}

this a good buy? i already have an e36 and i planned on spending most of my time on that but i came across this in the marketplace void. if the m50 blows swap it with a 2jzge?
what do the experts think
scooterprint@reddit
Good buy. Non-VVTi 2JZ-GEs have the GTE connecting rods.
You’re an intake/exhaust manifold, fuel system and some extra sensors, engine management, turbo, and wiring harness away from a reliable 700hp engine.
weasel5134@reddit
That's an NA 2j is it not ?
Big money in making that a big power turbo motor
pistonsoffury@reddit
The early (non-vvti) 2J's like the one in this SC300 used the same bottom end as the 2JZGTE's. The cylinder is different, but cheap intake and exhaust manifolds exist for them now. Big power on that engine is just a single turbo charger, injectors and engine management.
TP_Crisis_2020@reddit
Pistons are different.
Fragrant_Lobster_917@reddit
Did they ever put the non vvti in the IS300? I've thought about putting a GTE in one as my first toyota project, but if it came with the GTE bottom end, even better
Remarkable-Ad9880@reddit
Negative. Its a VVTi 2JZ.
Fragrant_Lobster_917@reddit
😪
tollboi@reddit
Also a non interference engine, so if you blow it, you're gonna save your cams and valves
deevil_knievel@reddit
Yes, they're NA. My mom had a 300 and a 400 when I was in high school. The 400 is a V8.
I was supposed to get the red SC400 as my first hand me down car from her, but she wrecked it a few months before I got my license... Crushing blow to my dating game in high-school.
MFavinger22@reddit
Got a buddy with with 400 and is about to swap the transmission with a 350z transmission. Very excited for him and can’t wait to help him. The car is dope!
deevil_knievel@reddit
Sounds dope! Lexus didn't even produce that it in a factory manual, did they? It was their "sporty" car, but it was luxury first and sporty second. Someone makes a bellhousing to mate the 1UZ to that 6 speed?
Mother-kneivel was actually a hardcore Nissan fan and had all of their sportscars after the 240... Loved stealing her droptop 350z in high school when she was out of town 🤣
But the best one was the red, T Top 300Z. It was NA... but that 300Z and Supra still reign supreme as the only two early 90s cars that had timeless lines and design and are still sexy to this day.
MFavinger22@reddit
I forgot the name of the company but I think there’s a couple out there that make kits for em!
MiloRoast@reddit
The 300 came with a rare factory manual, but not the 400.
banjo215@reddit
I think there was an ES250 with a manual in the 90s. I'm sure also very low take rate.
bluenosesutherland@reddit
The other question also is whether that engine has provisioning for a pilot bearing?
kabobkebabkabob@reddit
Yes it does
unclestasiu@reddit
Bunch of places now make adapters from UZ to a bunch of gearboxes, including the CD009, the Nissan 6s..There are even adapters for the BMW DCT box. I have one sitting here for a w59, the 5s out of a 90s 4x4 Tacoma.
KamakaziDemiGod@reddit
I definitely can't see any power snail in there
Numerous_Map_392@reddit
Just gotta overnight parts from Japan and this thing will decimate. Quit it on my tab over at Harrys.
Few-Neighborhood-162@reddit (OP)
can i get spoon engines too? you know just in case..
Small_Discipline_757@reddit
I mean look at it do you even like this car
Few-Neighborhood-162@reddit (OP)
not really 😂i’m more interested in the 2j..even tho it’s only a ge
Small_Discipline_757@reddit
What state u in Man U can take my ge for 500$ 120k miles
Few-Neighborhood-162@reddit (OP)
sent you a dm
Famous-Extension706@reddit
Sounds like a headache. Would be a cool drift beater.
Few-Neighborhood-162@reddit (OP)
that’s what i was thinking
Small_Discipline_757@reddit
But then what trans will you mate to it. Also how are you gna smog it
Few-Neighborhood-162@reddit (OP)
haven’t gotten that far.. i just saw it for somewhat* cheap and wanted to ask the board (i.e. Reddit)
albertjason@reddit
This is a fucking terrible deal. SC300s are not super valuable. I got a running and driving one with a title for free on Craigslist DURING covid.
This isn’t the place to start if it’s what you want.
Tibi1411@reddit
If budget is important keeo the m50/m52 if it blows put in a mildly built 30i and maybe turbo it. 2jz swaps are expensive. Ehat are your poser goals?
dojarelius@reddit
If it runs clean it up and drive that motherfucker all day. 1900 bucks doesn’t even get you a busted out 1998 dodge neon these days.
Obvious_Barnacle3770@reddit
It has a BIG 2jz. I only ever see medium
Box_Dread@reddit
What makes it bigger than a normal 2j?
RileyDream@reddit
no title, NA 2j… that’s a $900 car
tollboi@reddit
It's a Lexus, it probably still cranks and runs fine
Small_Discipline_757@reddit
You can buy a good 2jz for 500-800
Small_Discipline_757@reddit
WTF hell nah, but I would buy the shell for like 300 if it had a complete interior just no engine
jimbofranks@reddit
It runs, but can it move and stop on its own power?
I’d skip it without the title in any case.
stevens_hats@reddit
Aside from the other comments, given where it's parked, I'd check underneath to see how rusted it is. Woods, on dirt, wet/wintry climate, not great.
malinatorhouse@reddit
If the guy gets the title first. and try to get it for less maybe.
Few-Neighborhood-162@reddit (OP)
yeah i was thinking of offering $1000 and see where we go
ShaggysGTI@reddit
Getting an abandoned title was surprisingly easy in Virginia.
maxmighty88@reddit
I would pass. I bought some property and someone left one of these in the garage. I had it hauled away for scrap.
rudbri93@reddit
Id focus on one car, the m50 in the e36 is pretty stout so itll make all the power you want for sliding.
Few-Neighborhood-162@reddit (OP)
fair enough!
Carbonbuildup@reddit
Does run and drive - needs wiring harness. Runs and drives great, needs motor.
Few-Neighborhood-162@reddit (OP)
yeah he has a video of it running but no harness doesn’t sound good
Carbonbuildup@reddit
My main worry would be sourcing a wiring harness. Compression would be easy enough to check. Does he mean engine harness or body harness? If you’re really interested I’d check to see if the harness is the same as the Surpra’s which would make sourcing one a lot easier.
Expensive-Picture-18@reddit
If you can get the title this would be a great deal I'm actually looking at getting a SC300. These non vvti motors have like super thick rods and you can boost them up to the like 500 horsepower on a stock motor
