This is helpful, but I would also encourage taking into account the fact that 4 schools will be closing under Nancy Humphrey’s watch after 16 years on the board. While I trust Dr Tyra for attempting to stand up for families in our schools, I have a hard time having any faith in the rest of the board who chose to close multiple schools. Those choices will very much impact my vote.
MissTxMom@reddit
I will not be voting for Nancy because of this, people want to say the school closure process was open and honest and that is just not the case. Supporting Harper Weaver for PISD Seat 3. http://harperforpisd.com/
PlanoTX_Resident@reddit
You can't keep schools open if there aren't enough kids.
Younger families prefer Prosper, Celina, etc. where they can buy a new home for the price of a 40-year-old house in Plano.
Stafford4Collin@reddit (OP)
Schools are closing because humans living in Plano ISD aren’t having as many babies. When I moved here there were 57,000 students in Plano ISD. This year there are 48,000 students. You can’t lose 15% of your enrollment and keep all the same schools open that’s purely wasteful of our tax dollars. And I write this as a parent of a student at one of the schools that will be closing this year. The school district had a very open process with numerous public meetings all over the district to discuss the closings.
And the Republicans in the state legislature are using Plano ISD tax dollars as a piggy bank. Over 50% of our school tax dollars go elsewhere in the state.
DonkeeJote@reddit
Fucking recapture...
DonkeeJote@reddit
That's a reaction to a funding and demographic issue.
They didn't WANT to close schools. They can offer better services to those kids in well-attended schools more than they can at schools that are underfunded.
rscar77@reddit
Is there a reason for backing Dr. Tamara Thomas over Stacy Weaver?
Looking at relevant experience, it seems like Weaver has been in several education roles for 24 years while Thomas hasn't.
Weaver Education I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Business, MBA in Global Management, Superintendent's Certification, Texas Teacher's Certification in Special Education, Mid Management, 4-8 grade Math, ELA, Science, and Social Studies.
Weaver Experience I have 7 years experience in higher education, 5 years as a classroom teacher, 7 years as an administrator, and 5 years as a Superintendent.
Thomas Education Associate of Arts in Psychology – University of Phoenix; Bachelor of Science in Human Services Management – University of Phoenix; Doctor of Chiropractic – Texas Chiropractic College; Honorary Doctor of Ministry – NPower Theological Seminary
Thomas Experience My diverse experience positions me to bring strategic decision-making, financial oversight, and a deep understanding of workforce development, ensuring that Collin College remains an accessible and innovative institution for students & the community.
I'm open to the fact I may be missing something major here so please inform me if you know something I don't.
Stafford4Collin@reddit (OP)
Stacy Weaver’s “education” experience has all been in enterprises that undermine public education. She is the mom of Cody Weaver who spent his one term on the Plano ISD Board of Trustee’s undermining the district. If your goal is to undermine Collin College then Stacy Weaver is your ideal candidate.
faeriedancings@reddit
Are you able to point to specific policies and such that Cody Weaver put in place that did this? I am just now getting invested into local politics, and I want to ensure that I know the context to what you are saying.
rscar77@reddit
Thanks for providing that perspective.
jnmann@reddit
You serious? It’s not so much experience, it’s the diversity. Thomas is a person of color, weaver is not. Therefore, dems support the person of color. Its simple really
awesomemom1217@reddit
Hope you get downvoted to the center of the earth. 🙃
jnmann@reddit
I’m sure I will, because Reddit is full of people who don’t like reality
DonkeeJote@reddit
lmao on a post where 4 of 11 endorsements are still white men.
pseudoreddituser@reddit
Yeah... all those U of Phoenix degrees are scary too
TealPanda2@reddit
Weaver birthed and raised Cody, so I’m not sure why we would trust her with any other kids….
For real she’s anti public education.
Tamara has been an amazing service to East Plano, specifically the Douglass community for decades. She supports public education and rights for students. She has my vote.
Routine-Ad-893@reddit
Same question- especially since the ‘doctorates’ are in quackery and superstition and everything else is from U Phoenix. WTF?
Routine-Ad-893@reddit
Looks like Weaver is endorsed by all the Charter school and MAGAts like Paxton and Shaheen
SupaDupa1280@reddit
There used to be a time where people would look at the candidate and hear words from them to decide if they were the best fit for a voter. Now it's Red vs Blue.
IntelligentHeight598@reddit
Right??
DaSemicolon@reddit
Man, these are our options? Muns who wanted to defund dart and Levine who pumps up his anti-upzoning activity on his website?
maryj75225@reddit
Lavine’s opponent Gary Cary is the much more anti-upzoning and MAGA candidate. My opinion is biased but know that Cary is Shelby Williams’ handpicked guy.
IntelligentHeight598@reddit
He’s not really “MAGA” though.. throwing a MAGA label on all republicans in this race is getting a little ridiculous.
JayWo60@reddit
Muns is running unopposed
DaSemicolon@reddit
Yeah, so why endorse him?
DonkeeJote@reddit
He's still an asset to the rest of the Dems in the area.
DaSemicolon@reddit
How so? He’s a Republican, no?
DonkeeJote@reddit
I have no idea about his party affiliation outside of the PAD endorsement.
Nearby_Airline_3353@reddit
It's a good point. Abstaining from voting for bad, unopposed candidates may make better candidates more likely to run against them next time.
Ok_Confection_9350@reddit
No thanks, my property taxes are sky high now in Plano and I ran away from NJ where property taxes went from 5,000 a year to 22,000 a year. The majority went to paying for public schools which all have Democrat representatitves that keep asking for more money.
Prudent-Copy-6595@reddit
Property taxes are going up because Plano Republicans pursued anti-development policies, which lowered the overall tax base (so each individual person has to pay more). Do a bit more research instead of just voting for one color or the other.
Ok_Confection_9350@reddit
The heck are you talking about, every square inch of plano has been developed (over developed) and the enrollment rates are dropping in schools as the older generation can't afford to retire anywhere else.
Prudent-Copy-6595@reddit
Plano is not "over developed". It's low-density single family homes. If Plano built more higher-density developments instead, there'd be more tax revenue to go around.
Rancorx@reddit
No one wants high density housing besides thought who want more money for taxes. They over spend what they have now, what makes you think they would be able to keep it under control if they had even more money?
Prudent-Copy-6595@reddit
I want high density housing to make housing more affordable and accessible to everyone. Also if you increase the tax base you can decrease the tax rate and keep services the same, so "we shouldn't increase the value of property in our city so council can't collect more taxes" is insane logic.
Rancorx@reddit
Name a time that they actually reduced the tax rate after adding high-density housing? Go ahead, I’ll wait
Disco_Biscuit12@reddit
Vote Republican
prodebane@reddit
Can I vote for Plano elections if my license address is in Allen? Or can I only vote in the Allen elections?
Stafford4Collin@reddit (OP)
Some of Plano ISD is in the City of Allen (Pct 130 between Rowlett Creek, Custer, & Hedgecoxe). Some of Plano is in Allen ISD (Plano north of Chaparral). Some of the City of Allen is in Lovejoy ISD (Allen east of Angel Pkwy). All of Allen votes for Collin College.
heinzenfeinzen@reddit
voting is done by the assigned precinct based on your registered address. Each precinct has a specific ballot that can vary from precinct to precinct. Look at your voter registration card to find the precinct and then find the sample ballot here: https://www.collincountytx.gov/Elections/sample-ballots
(If you don't have your voter registration card you can search there as well)
ProfessSirG@reddit
Democrats lol
ImperialDoor@reddit
Voting for what? Best clown in the circus?
rootwraith1@reddit
Not a Dem. Hate the Dems and Reps with a passion. But I do agree with this list mostly. Just going with Hayden for CC place 8 instead of Vidal.
IntelligentHeight598@reddit
Carson Underwood for Place 2; he’s moderate, well balanced, articulate, experienced.
Community Involvement:

Registered Yoga Teacher 200 –Teach every Friday at 9:15 am Gaia Flow Yoga in Plano
rootwraith1@reddit
Going for Hayden for Place 8 otherwise all looks great!
Matchboxx@reddit
This is helpful. I’m voting for these candidates specifically to spite the Collin GOP who keeps leaving flyers on my door despite posted signage and verbal warnings not do so. Registered Republican but I told them the next time they did it I was voting straight ticket Dem and I meant it.
rootwraith1@reddit
Same. 4 different flyers.
cypresstreesaretall@reddit
Texas doesn’t have party registration though????
crusaderactual777@reddit
It's called lying and astroturfing; dems have been doing this for a century.
Matchboxx@reddit
Good point. I don’t know how I got on their list then. But they incessantly drop materials at my house, the Dems don’t, and I don’t do lawn signs.
Stafford4Collin@reddit (OP)
If you want GOP materials, vote in GOP primaries (or live with someone who does).
If you want DEM materials, vote in DEM primaries (or live with someone who does).
Matchboxx@reddit
I mean, I've definitely requested a GOP primary form whenever voting in those elections. Didn't know that was recorded though, figured secret ballot and all that.
lordb4@reddit
Anybody can order a file from Collin County to learn which primaries you voted in for like $35.
scooteristi@reddit
Who you vote for is secret. That you vote in GOP primaries is public record. My best advise? Vote your values and don't try to ratfuck the other party’s primary.
DonkeeJote@reddit
If you respond to text surveys you can get weeded out too.
TxDirtRoad@reddit
Except it does, via affiliation—different name, similar function. As a Libertarian, we have to do our first round of communication every year on 'Don't vote in primaries', otherwise, by law, they cannot participate in Libertarian Party activities. It resets Dec 31 every year.
https://www.sos.texas.gov/elections/laws/advisory2022-11.shtml
evilcyclist@reddit
Primary’s are single party. You can only vote once. It’s kind of party registration. I still get Republican stuff even though GHW Bush was the last time I voted republican.
DonkeeJote@reddit
No, but precinct chairs would absolutely be considered as such to me.
Davidwalsh1976@reddit
I don’t think being ‘democrats endorsed’ holds much weight anymore. Geezus we need more parties
Stafford4Collin@reddit (OP)
Know your city…
Davidwalsh1976@reddit
Allred is an establishment lib that doesn’t care about regular working people
Stafford4Collin@reddit (OP)
Because Ted Cruz, Donald Trump, and every other Republican care so much about working people. 🙄
Davidwalsh1976@reddit
I’m not a republican. Can you not think beyond black and white? Partisan politics is why we are where we are now. There’s more important things than your team winning.
Stafford4Collin@reddit (OP)
Politics is a series of binary choices. No matter what label you give yourself you vote for a Democrat, a Republican, or you let other people decide for you.
Davidwalsh1976@reddit
I always vote democrat because I have no better choice. You know who made sure that I don’t have a better choice? Democrats
sfa1500@reddit
Don't let Stafford get to you. Anyone who disagrees with him gets accused of being a Trump supporter or Republican.
Davidwalsh1976@reddit
lol thanks, I’m ok but I will continue the fight to push dems left
DonkeeJote@reddit
What is an 'establishment lib'?
Davidwalsh1976@reddit
A democrat that feigns being progressive but only cares about corporations and Wall Street
DonkeeJote@reddit
Ok, and why do you think Allred was that? His time in the House or from his campaign?
Davidwalsh1976@reddit
He has never been critical of other democrats or the party, he has never sponsored progressive policy, in fact his debate with Ted Cruz proved that his is quite conservative. His district is/was safely blue he could have stuck his neck out for his working class constituents but he didn’t, he toed the line and became a millionaire doing it.
DonkeeJote@reddit
He was probably already a millionaire from playing five years in the NFL. I doubt he needed the House to get there.
oilmoney322@reddit
Yeah not voting for any. Keep the democrats in Dallas. We want businesses to thrive, not the homeless.
isthereanyotherway@reddit
Hold on. You don't want people who happen to be unhoused to thrive? You do realize that them thriving would be living with a roof over their head, food, a job, etc.?? That's some next level evil type shit right there to not want those things for our less fortunate neighbors.
IntelligentHeight598@reddit
*says until there is a homeless camp in their neighborhood.
We need better resources for the homeless who want to thrive. Most are content. Just look at San Francisco, Austin, Portland…. All overran by homelessness. Their cities are crumbling. Oh wait, those are all blue areas. It doesn’t seem to be working out very well…. Hence why everyone is moving to red states.
JuniorPomegranate9@reddit
Thank you for your thoughtful input, oilmoney322
121guy@reddit
Thanks for this. It gives me a list of people to avoid.
PhuqEwe11@reddit
Agreed
SubstantialSnacker@reddit
Why are you endorsing republicans in this? I am curious as muns primaries with the GOP
Stafford4Collin@reddit (OP)
Because the members voted 45-3 to recommend him (he’s "recommended" not "endorsed").
lordb4@reddit
I would add for the Parker portion of Plano ISD: Darrel Sharp, Colleen Halbert, and Roxanne Bogdan.
The remaining candidates consists of a former Mayor that sued for sexual harrassment leading to the city paid out $30K to settle it and the other two are currently on council with severe attendance problems. The current council is completely dysfunctional and unproductive.
Ok_Negotiation_9383@reddit
don’t vote just cause their dem do research on what they value and stuff also
IntelligentHeight598@reddit
Yes! Half share the same views. Vote for the better candidate regardless of their party affiliations.
PlanoTX_Resident@reddit
PLEASE go out and vote for these candidates. I am also on the NextDoor app and most of the older/retired people on there are going to vote for their conservative candidates who are most interested in finding "porn" in the library and supporting private schools.
Alot of these conservative older voters are also planning to say No to the propositions that will make our roads, libraries and infrastructure better. They are also starting a petition to ask Gov Abbot to abolish property taxes for everyone above 65. Note that seniors already have a homestead exemption and home values are frozen at 65.
Suburbking@reddit
I thought local elections are non partisan.
I guess so much fot that...
Jameszhang73@reddit
They used to be before 2016. Wonder what happened then...
Stafford4Collin@reddit (OP)
Local elections are “non-partisan”: party doesn’t appear next to candidate name. That said, I’ve seen Hayden Padgett (the President of the Young Republicans National Federation and candidate for City Council 8) at forum after forum say that he agrees with his opponent Vidal Quintanilla on every issue. Since that’s the case do you want to vote for the guy (Hayden) who moved to Texas from California to use it a stepping stone into national Republican politics who is likely to cause a special election running for another office or the guy (Vidal) born and raised in Texas whose goal is to improve the city he loves who won't run for a higher office?
Nearby_Airline_3353@reddit
They are. That doesn't mean that parties can't endorse candidates whose stances align closest with theirs.
I have a feeling you wouldn't have made this comment on a similar post about who Republicans had endorsed though.
Suburbking@reddit
show me the list and ill show you my reply. id appreciate you not making assumptions about me and my character.
Nearby_Airline_3353@reddit
You know I can see your comment history, right? Not a difficult assumption to make. Feel free to downvote, but you know in your heart I'm right.
Vast_Hyena2443@reddit
What I thought too! 🤷🏼♂️
Jameszhang73@reddit
Any recs for Frisco ISD?
Stafford4Collin@reddit (OP)
Read the post. They’re on there.
For those of you who live in far north Plano, for Frisco ISD:
In Place 1 our board and members split 50-50 on Suresh Manduva and Dr. Amit Kalra (I voted for Kalra, but it takes 50%+1 to endorse). Everyone was clear to vote against the Collin GOP endorsed Muniraj Janagarajan.
Jameszhang73@reddit
Ok thanks. Looks like the post got reformatted so I see it now. This is really helpful!

Vote RED and let Texas stay Texas.

I always take a look at my crazy Trumper neighbors' yard signs and use them as a guide on who to vote against.
cvsmith122@reddit
Thanks now I know who not to vote for !
ExpertConsideration8@reddit
I'm just surprised you can read. Text to speech utility?
cvsmith122@reddit
Lol, no it’s not text to speech. Just critical thinking and knowing the extreme liberal views I don’t agree with, and the liberal hive mind forces the most extreme views.
At least with conservative views I can have different opinions and not be attacked consistently.
Like I don’t agree with the tariffs but I’m still glad I voted for trump over Kamala.
Vast_Hyena2443@reddit
Thanks! Now I know who NOT to vote for!
GenSgtBob@reddit
You realize that almost every republican candidate during for elections last November were literally too lazy to fill out a basic questionnaire for vote411.org so that people could understand their position on anything, right?
I'm not saying that there aren't any democrats that aren't or won't be poor representatives but simply voting party lines rather than voting for competency is idiotic
