After a couple of years watching Formula 1 and owning a Miata, I found myself wondering—has anyone ever built a monoposto Miata?

Turns out, someone did. And of course, I had to dive in and do a bit of design work to pull together all the details, fun facts, and inspiration behind it. You might like it, you might not—but I think we can all agree: this build is one of a kind.

It used to be common for the pro-solo and auto-x guys to delete the windshield and cover the passenger seat.

Yes, well no, but yes? Scale auto (a scale.model car magazine) did one with an early jag model. It had the headrest/fin on it from the jag. Neat concept. The magazine was all about doing body work and making things line up and so on.

wow thats pretty wild but also awesome. mazda has always had a way of portraying unique nods to heritage designs, love it.

For a minute there, I thought AI had taken some serious strides in the last few days. That thing is surreal.

It definitely is

That looks like it would be a lot of fiberglass work

Agree… that passenger side delete seems to be a lot of work

I'd be down to build one off of a NC Miata.

That would be interesting for sure
