I'm going to get hate, but honestly Porsche. I never liked their design style, never interested me or turned my head, but I was walking the other day and passed one in someones driveway that was so damn gorgeous. Like absolutely stunning. Changed my mind on the spot.

I still like it, and secretly hope their value takes a nosedive while Tesla simultaneously improves it. It has always just been too expensive for me. I like that the interface is no frills, and it actually does not feel nearly as big as the Lightning (I've been in both). I also like that whole 'no paint' thing going on. My cars are always dirty as hell (I have 3 small children and a home I am constantly helping/working on), so a raw metal outside has always been appealing. Also, it DOES look different than everything else, and has features I like, so if the price on the use market drops to my absurd low level, I will seriously consider it.

Or do something like take a Tesla Model S, (if I had the money..) to replace the electric engine with a non-electric one, modify it the way some “JDM/VIP Stance” video would, and put the license plate as “RUINED”

Reddit's latest favorite past time is to dog pile Tesla and Elon. I definitely agree, like no shit, the truck is crap and he's doing horrible shit, but reading it 20 times a day is getting tiring. People also only focus on how it's ugly and has been recalled a ton, but I'm personally excited to see them move to a fully 48V low voltage architecture and hopefully push the industry to do the same. Steer-by-wire with no mechanical backup is also a ballsy move.

View on Reddit #54544030

hi_im_bored13@reddit

It’s relatively aerodynamic for what it is and I’m not sure why they’re expected to consider pedestrian impact protection when no american car has to What it is, is mass produced and 5-star nhsta, yes it was delayed and as much as I dislike it, credit where credit due it is impressive engineering getting it to market. And then there’s the 48v system and whatnot, I’m not interested in buying one, but I respect the engineering

t-poke@reddit

The CT is ugly as shit, but I appreciate the fact they thought outside the box (no pun intended) and did something different. So many people complain they all cars look alike, and they’re not wrong. I hope it encourages other manufacturers to do something weird with their designs. The CT isn’t my cup of tea, but who knows, the next weird, unconventional looking car might be. I also think the CT wouldn’t get most of the hate it gets if it wasn’t a Tesla.

TBH the Falcon wing doors are pretty great if you have kids. Super easy to get kids into car seats without hitting your head. But yeah, people for decades have just ducked their heads and it all works out fine.

Sliding doors don’t move the roof when you open them, though.
View on Reddit #54529005

hi_im_bored13@reddit

Sadly the execution wasn’t quite there but I still think the design was neat, it allows for easier ingress/egress, really easy to install a car seat or get folks in and out, and it does that while (imo) looking cooler than a traditional minivan door And while the model x has languished, long term reliability sucked, it sold like hotcakes for a good few years, the doors did their job and got people talking.

That's my problem with the aesthetics as well. Front looks fine-ish, but it looks like a rolling dumpster or appliance from the back. Wrapped in a darker color to hide some of the lines helps a lot
View on Reddit #54556415

Agreed. In person when you're close up the size kind of overwhelms your perception and it just looks like a box. But on the road and at a distance, it just looks like they forgot about styling it past the top of the B pillar.

View on Reddit #54530230

happy--muffin@reddit

I love the fact that it screams I’m ugly, look at me, and fuck you. IMO it was designed to look ugly, it’s hate rage baiting at an 11 and people are all slurping that shit up like it’s July 11th at 7-11.  I’m not in the market for a pickup truck so I have no intention on buying one, but if someone gives one to me for free I’ll take it for sure. I seen too many people saying shit like, I won’t take it even if it’s free.
View on Reddit #54526154

The original concept was decent looking. But then Elon discovered crash and safety regulations and it ended up having less curb appeal then a meth heads PT Cruiser. It really should’ve been scrapped at that point
View on Reddit #54556316

joelk111@reddit

I'm shocked that this is the second-to-top reply. The thing seems to be a bad truck, electric or not, but it looks crazy, different, and unique. Gear heads love crazy, different, and unique stuff. I'm glad it's different. Different is fun.
View on Reddit #54549905

Fit_Equivalent3610@reddit

It is kinda neat aesthetically. Of all the problems with it (i.e. literally everything else) that one is the least bad or maybe even a positive. It's very 80s and it's polarizing but that is clearly the point of the design and if it was otherwise good, I think people would be far more forgiving. Too bad the rest of it is so trash.
View on Reddit #54521484

Zahradn1k@reddit

Besides Musks' political ties, why does everyone hate the Cybertruck so much? It absolutely has a unique design, but I wouldn't call it ugly. If I had $100k laying around I would buy one just for the hell of it.
View on Reddit #54533347

Thomas_633_Mk2@reddit

> Besides Musks' political ties It's so overtly tied to him that this is kind of like saying "why do people hate the PT Cruiser other than the retro styling"? The interior of all Tesla's is tied to his vision (which I should remind you is for *people to not drive*, no wonder this sub doesn't like that) but it's exterior is as well.
View on Reddit #54546209

I think a lot of it is just hating on Elon tbh. I don't love the look of the cubertruck but don't really hate it either or think it's hideous or anything. It does scream for attention, which isn't my thing, but it's fine lol. I'd buy one for the hell of it if it was a LOT cheaper, actually got their originally advertised 500 miles of range, and if Elon wasn't an annoying man child

This is a massively unpopular opinion but I actually like how the G80 looks more than the F80 now. I think a big thing with these newer BMWs is the really sharp angular body lines don't translate to pictures well. They still might be too aggressive or overly styled for some people but at least in person the styling makes a lot more sense.

BMW 4 series beaver teeth 2. Cybertruck 3. All modern Range Rovers look cheap for some reason to me 4. G Wagon - especially with the modern DRLs looks even more terrible 5. Genesis's striped flat lights that have no dimensionality to them 6. Current Sienna - I may end up buying one to replace my current one, but it looks so overwrought 7. Cayenne - I own one. It is a bland egg crossover and somewhat unattractive

I'd argue the same problem existed with the F82 gen as well. People were just a lot more forgiving on that gen since people like that front end more. So I got two: The 13th generation F150 from 2015-2017 I disliked so much because it looked too angular and futuristic and different from the 12th gen it replaced, and the aluminum body threw me off too, but came to love them a lot, the interior was a massive step up too from the 12th gen, from the base models all the way to the Lariats (KR, Platinum and Limited shouldnt exist to me imo but that's for another discussion) The S550 mustang. I used to hate how it looked so similar to an Aston Martin from the side profile because an Aston to me was supposed to be an elegant car, not a bang for your buck sports car, but, I noticed how well the S550 platform was and how much I actually liked the interior compared to the S197 it replaced, and the newer S650 with all its digital crap, something about mixing analog gauges with smaller digital screens feels more premium to me than throwing screens into an interior. The black decklid looks great on the S550 all the way from 2015-2023 (still like the look of the 15-17 over the 18-23 in the front due to the 18-23 looking kinda derpy and the 15-17 looking very aggressive). But those are my two picks.

The [early Fox bodies](https://www.motortrend.com/uploads/f/65474234.jpg) have a reputation for looking generic or uninspired. But in the late '70s with cars being downsized, aero-ized, and CAD becoming the norm for car design, it was right in line with the times.
View on Reddit #54529165

Ness341@reddit

Exactly. They were trying to design more forward instead of being stuck in a retro designed "box". You could come out with a 2 door coupe, add a bird somewhere, and it was the new thunderbird. You could design a pony car, and it was going to be the mustang. Make sure it has a V8 option, put some horses on it, and you'd know it was supposed to be a mustang. People had love for the classics, but it after the 1970's era of car design, they wanted something different. It's kind of like the box the mustang accidentally got put into now since 2005. If it doesn't have any resemblance to the 1960's absolutely anywhere, the diehard fans WILL bitch. The new probe was going to be a mustang, but people legitimately protested and wrote so much hate fan mail that Ford relented to call it something else.

The MK8 GTI has grown a ton on me. It makes mine feel dated. When the 2021 F150 came out, I thought it looked exactly the same as the 2018-20, but now I realize it fixes everything wrong with that design. I especially like the 2024 facelift’s black grille surround. Finally, the 2020 and up Chevy Silverado 2500HD. I thought it was awful at first but it looks awesome in certain trims like ZR2. I still hate the current 1500 — it might be the ugliest “normal” half-ton of all time.

View on Reddit #54530278

gluten_heimer@reddit

I would presume the fact that there is no Supercab/8’ bed combo is your biggest hangup. The bed on the Chevy 1500 is too tall. Surely that’s functional but it looks disproportionate. Plus, the front end design just doesn’t work on a truck, which is my primary gripe. It looks like a 14-year-old doughboy with braces trying to smile.
View on Reddit #54536679

Drzhivago138@reddit

That's hangup #2. #1 is no more Heavy-Duty Payload Package at all, meaning the highest payload you can option is "only" 2400 lbs. #3 is that regular cabs are now XL-only. #4 is that Lariat dropped the SuperCab and front bench seat options. #5 is that RCSBs are 5.0 V8 only. 3, 4, & 5 don't affect me in the slightest, but I see it as a matter of principle: Ford was for many years the one brand that would offer unpopular weird combinations, and now they've (understandably) abandoned that in the name of simplification. I wouldn't be surprised if in 5 years they completely drop the SuperCab and just expect everyone to get crews. >The bed on the Chevy 1500 is too tall. Surely that’s functional but it looks disproportionate. Same as when Dodge in 2002 and Ford in 2004 raised their bed lines, it's functional and dysfunctional. On paper, you get more bed volume, but IRL, it makes it all that much harder to put stuff in the bed without climbing in.
View on Reddit #54537182

gluten_heimer@reddit

I didn’t realize they had completely dropped HDPP. Do you need to step up to a 250 to get the payload you want/need (let alone the SCab/8’ bed)?
View on Reddit #54537501

Drzhivago138@reddit

Yes and no. Yes, I would have to go to a rough-riding 250 to get a Super/8'. But on my '18 the payload is 2500 lbs. anyway, since to get the maximum advertised 3000+ lbs. out of an HDPP requires a 2WD regular cab. As it sits now, dropping HDPP leaves a sizable gap between 150 and 250 in terms of payload. A 250 with the lowest possible payload (4WD diesel crew cab with a bunch of extra options) is still able to carry over 3500 lbs.

04-06 Pontiac gto. When they first came out in 2004 I was like everyone else and said they look nothing like a gto and just look like another Grand prix. Fast foward to 2008, and i started thinking yhat you don't think about the gto name and take it as it is its not that bad. It was a 2-door v8 sports car in an era where the only other options for a 2 door v8 sports car were the camero, mustang, and a corvette. Fast foward to 2014 and I finally get one and have been driving it for 10+ years. I love how it's understated and unassuming until I do a 4th gear drop at 80mph and rocket away and only until recently has modern sports cars been able to give it a hard time. But for a long time, that 15-20 year old Pontiac could beat any modern sports car.

Same. Am a diehard Mini fan and I remember when I first started seeing them driving around thinking how the Mini look had been ruined. It’s been the same for the new J01 model. I bought an electric F56 16 months ago just after the announcement of the new J01. I could’ve waited for the new Mini but didn’t like the look of that either. Now I wish I waited as I would love an electric JCW J01 mini.

The P1 was a brilliant design but McLaren just kept watering it down, the 650s literally copy-pasted the P1's front end onto the MP4-12C and the 570s just looked like a more bulbous, wide-eyed 650s. The 720s was a much needed wholely original design for McLaren.

Obviously the facelift 540i sports are beautifully done but at the time I wasn’t impressed. Now I’d love to find a clean 540 touring to cruise around in. I also thought the first gen sequoia was pretty bulbous and ugly, but by the end of the model run they looked just right with the split 5 spoke wheels I guess the just is the right set of wheels really can change my opinion on a car.

I never really liked the NSX as a kid. The pop up headlights and black greenhouse seemed to really date the car. I didn't like the proportions that much either. It seemed to long and low in the back. I have since started to come around and Ive found myself liking it more and more.

At the time, Road & Track said that its looks "aren't as exciting as they could be"... And I agreed. All of the cars it was trying to compete with had a romance, a flamboyance, and a history to them, and a V6 Honda just didn't.

I hated the first gen Panamaras when they first came out. Granted, I was 10 when they came out. Now, I've come to adore the look, no thanks to my current 2011 (Thanks Grandpa). I definitely think the original style is quirky, and the newer models definitely refined the look they were going for. But they've aged *very* well to me.

G22, G23 BMW 4-series. Like everyone when it first came out I thought it was the ugliest thing ever. But it has grown on me to the point where I’m considering one as my next car.

The Hyundai Santa Cruz. At first, I thought it was an ugly excuse for something pretending to be a truck. Now I see it as a modern reimaginig of a Subaru Brat.

Put me down for the E65 6-series and the E85 Z4. Both were controversial at the time but matured really well in my opinion.

I agree and would add the e60 5-series as well - it was a major departure from the classical handsomeness of the e39, but I’ve really grown to like it

yeah the e65 had that awkward headlight shape but I've started to like it more too. I just don't see any way whatsoever that the iX will grow on me. The buck teeth design... bleh.

I can tell you what it WON'T be, the new Subaru Outback design for 2026. God damn that is an ugly fucking redesign. Loved the previous year, wanted to buy one, but its like cold water was poured over my head.

CB wrx. From the front, I think it’s handsome, and used to think it was ugly. The rear diffuser, is still ugly though, and the VA looks better imo. My opinions of the cladding has changed.

Actually a lot of cars made in the last ten or so years. Especially the hella over-styled ones (think last-gen Civic). They photograph terribly but look a lot better in living color.

Dream car was always a C6Z as a kid. Still cost a bit more than I’d like to spend at the moment, so I opted for the C5Z. While I didn’t outright hate the design, it never appeared to be the perfectly balanced, lightweight sports car that Corvette is… but it is. It effortlessly rolls down the road, eating corners, and soaking up the bumps and craters on poorly paved roads. It has a certain charm now after experiencing what it has to offer, so it has grown on me more and more. One cannot miss it on the road amongst a sea of SUV appliances. It may not be exotic but it is certainly from a different time period and turns heads, especially when turning on the pop-ups.

I felt that way about the Mustang too. Especially without the lip spoiler. I’m a fan of the 6th gen Camaro and a lot of people think that car is ugly, but the Mustang isn’t as rough around the edges. It’s a very sleek looking car and very comfortable to sit in.

F80 M3 and ferrari 458. i actually bought both lol. when they first came out i thought they were overstyled / too edgy... but compared to the current stuff in that segment its pretty subdued. The new M3 and M2 are awful. The Ferrari 488 and F8 were just a mess of a design and overdid it. I still dont like the supra. but its very eye catching with the low and wide stance coming down the road. especially in black.

Why the hell are people lifting these damn things. Looks kinda cool though. New car time: “okay those crosstreks are decent but why would I get that when a ford bronco or frontier is more capable. Oh you guys dont have the base bronco? Nah man im here to see the frontier not the q45. God damn Turcks and Pickurps drive like shit.
