The ones that came stock on my 2025 Maverick are meh, pro contact or whatever. They will do for now, but if they get replaced it will be by dws06 size permitting.
I should clarify that I've never been disappointed by an aftermarket Conti tire. I've never owned a vehicle that came with them OE, but basically every OE tire I've had had been kinda shite
Only problem I’ve had with them was Discount wouldn’t put them on the Juke cause the load rating was 3lbs lower than what is “recommended”. Went to a local shop and got them done there.
Loved them on 2 Mazda 3s and will be what goes on my wife’s car until they are no longer available
My mom had those Contis on her Chevy SS back when she had one. Absolutely excellent all-season performance tire. I’ll almost certainly get some when I replace my PS4S on my Elantra N.
I can’t realistically keep the Pilot Sports on for the entire year where I’m at. It doesn’t get cold or snowy enough in Alabama to justify a set of summers and winters (and when it does, the state shuts down anyways) but it does get cold enough to where summer tires really wear out fast in the winter.
That said, I strongly suspect that’s gonna change when I move next year. I’ll be able to justify both summers and winters in a much snowier and colder climate.
I’ve always wanted to try them out, but it REALLY bums me out that Costco for some reason doesn’t carry them even if they are in the same tier as Michelin/BFG/Bridgestone. I like getting tires there because installation fees are basically zero there and usually have better discounts on tires vs other shops. But if they do change course some day and offer Continental on their shelves i’m gonna switch to some DWS06s as soon as i need new tires.
My car are through the tread in half the warrantied mileage, but I'm mostly blaming the car for that one... Tire rack treadwear warranty reimbursement helped.
I had a set on my Abarth when I expected to go through some heavier snow that demanded 3PMS.
They were incredibly impressive, and I even ended up running a couple autocross events on them and doing pretty well. They're not supposed to do as well as they did.
I should be embarrassed by how many tires I now know by the tread.
Did a lot of research to find the lightest possible combination of wheels and tires for my car as a fun exercise lol
With how warm the winters are now, we don’t get much in the way of huge snow storms. Crossclimates have been great on my 86. Great grip in slush and I don’t feel like jumping off of them asap back to summers like the past. And so nice when the weather is 75 one day and 30 the next
My daughter runs them, my dad did on his old car, he has a new one now, I ran them on my Highlander, my son will get them by end of year.
Yeah! I think the CC2's are awesome! They gave me great service on the Highlander.
After one winter with them I'd rate them as a great year round tire for anyone living in the northern half of the US or in southern Canada. Far superior rainy and 40 to 50 F weather at the beginning and end of winter seasons or during warm ups mid winter, and you'd only miss the extra 10 to 20% of snow traction a dedicated winter tire gets you if you have to drive on rutted out dirt and gravel roads with like 2 feet of snow on them.
You're good in a driveway up to the ground clearance of the vehicle in snow depth in my experience with them, and any road up to the ground clearance. It'd only be a problem if you live in a rural area with frequent deep snow where temps are at or below freezing months on end all winter long. I played with these pretty hard with an AWD sedan and they were game for serious snow hooning let alone just driving around normally.
Is Ottawa/Gatinear 'southern enough'?
> and any road up to the ground clearance
I am in a Corolla so that is pretty low ground clearance (lower than say an SUV). Would that be a problem?
That's where I got mine lol. Was pretty happy with them but shelved in the garage after I found a new set of rims with brand new stock Pirellis. Will be going back on once these are worn down.
I run them between April and November in Colorado. Unfortunately they aren’t quite as good as Blizzaks in the depth of winter but are more than good enough for the warmer months considering it snows nearly year round here.
Depending on where you live (somewhere flatter/warmer/drier) it could definitely be perfectly fine year round. Just pointing out that it isn’t a silver bullet for everyone, and the 3PMSF designation can be a bit of an exaggeration.
I would normally agree that the 3PMSF is an exaggeration, but we've had CC2s on the wifes ridgeline for 2 winters now, and I have yet to think "I could really use a dedicated snow tire" here in MN. Great on compacted snow, decent on ice, and no issues through spring/fall/summer. My blizzaks are slightly better, but not noticeable during commute driving, only when I'm testing/surpassing limits.
To be specific, where I’ve noticed the biggest improvement with Blizzaks has been on sharp curves/hairpins on high-altitude mountain passes. But granted—this is hardly a common scenario outside of the mountain states. In general they’re a huge improvement over all-seasons.
Yeah I run CC2s and the only time I almost got in trouble was when I was going a bit too fast on a mountain pass when it shifted to a downhill curve. The tires were fine slowing down and fine turning, but not fine doing both at once in the level of snow on the road. Luckily no one else was around and got control back after skidding the turn a bit.
Where I live it's too hot for dedicated snow tires, but I drive to the mountains to go skiing, so CC2s or similar are basically my only option if I don't want to put on chains.
I just did my first winter with them driving in mountainous snowy terrain to and from ski trips and they were surprisingly almost as good as the Blizzaks I had before. Not quite the insane rally car level of ice and snow grip as the Blizzaks that makes a light AWD sedan feel like it's a video game, but still very good and reliable traction even in deep, heavy falling fresh snow or standing snow up to about 10 inches.
And the rain and warm weather traction feels just like a michelin high performance all season does.
I'd 100% recommend these to anyone living south of the arctic circle as a year round tire, or as a winter tire replacement if they live where it is not consistently below freezing day and night all winter long. The superior traction in 40 to 50 degree weather back home in between mountain trips was infinitely superior to the Blizzaks in times like that when we had warm spells mid winter.
You’re right, there is a difference and it’s spelled out at the start of the article. Person you’re replying to didn’t read it and it shows ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
My experience with them with AWD in mountains during snow storms this winter was great. I'd say about 90% as good as Blizzaks with that extra 10% really just being about if you need to actually and often drive through tremendously deep snow drifts in a truck or SUV with the ground clearance to do it. My audi S3 went everywhere with them without any tire slipping or suddenly losing traction and was able to reverse uphill out of a parking space that was much deeper snow than it looked. I had it in about 10 inches of snow in a parking lot at the deepest.
Like you said the real positive trade off is having actually good to great warmer weather and rain traction with these instead of the very squishy and weak warm/rain traction of dedicated winter tires. It also gets frequently into the 50s or low 60s here and there each winter in between colder periods of weather and the Blizzaks were always bad and wore down quickly in those times.
I use 4S summer tires May through November.
It makes a lot of sense especially in places like Colorado. But certainly there's a sacrifice in noise which is a big priority for me. The winter set of Pirellis I use on our Model X rougher/noisier but it's an acceptable compromise for the season.
Bummer they couldn't test the WeatherReady 2. TireRack indicated it was a big bump in performance over the WeatherReady. Should be noted, it struggles at rolling resistance so expect an mpg drop.
I put WeatherReady 2s on my Outback right before the winter and can confirm they are fantastic; they must have just become available because there were maybe 2 reviews on Tire Rack at the time.
I got a great deal on them which helped my decision, but the car absolutely ripped through some shitty snowstorms.
Did take a small MPG hit but the Outback kinda sucks at that regardless.
I got the Bridgestone WeatherPeak on my Santa Fe here in Ottawa. We get a lot of snow and icy conditions.
So far, after the first winter, it feels like I have maybe 60-70% of the winter performance I would get from a dedicated winter set. We will see how long it lasts and fairs in the coming winter seasons as I do expect the short treadlife to affect winter performance negatively going forward.
Never got stuck and comfortably cruised in snow storms. Stopping distance is longer than winters but i was pleasantly surprised. I was honestly expecting it to fall flat on its face.
With that being said, when time to replace, I am definitely running dedicated winters and summers. It's during the summer when i get annoyed at these tires.
weatherpeaks are kind of junk as far as all weathers go. an actual premium all weather like the crossclimate or the pirelli weatheractives are head and shoulders above them.
theyre decent in the snow and they suck just about everywhere else. crossclimates are top of the category in pretty much every metric except for having a little bit of a harder ride than some other models. ive driven and installed enough of both to know that the crossclimate still hasnt been beat despite being a 5 year old tire at this point.
I also have the Bridgestone WeatherPeaks as my "winter" tire here in Texas. I got spooked about running performance summers on a road trip during one very cold winter snap. No issues, seemed fine, but wasn't much of a test.
How did they not even test the brand most dedicated to all weather tires, Vredestein? All season is not the same as all weather, and they’re one whose been doing it the longest.
It's nice seeing real All Weather tires really taking off in the USA.
Anecdotaly, I've been running the Bridgestone WeatherPeak on our Q3 and really like them. Great wet/snow/ice performance and a comfy and predictable daily.
just an FYI as there there seems to be some confusion with some people not realizing that all-season and all-weather are actually are actually different products
All weather tires are a new development in the industry. It's the first time tires have been released that have good performance in the snow while still being able to run them year round.
They're the best do it all on road tire on the market right now.
All season tires have traditionally been average in the snow. That being said, there is still a use case for all season tires for areas that see minimal snow/ice. They are likely cheaper, quieter, and better gas mileage.
I’m pretty sure it’s been like 15 years since Nokian released the wrg2. I don’t think they brought their first version to North America but I could be wrong. I put them on our fleet cause I hated swapping and storing winters in the pretty temperate PNW.
I’m glad other manufacturers stepped up and pushed the segment.
Wow! TIL. Looks like they invented those as early as 1999. Can't believe it took 20 years for other manufacturers in the USA to catch on. Thanks for sharing.
Ah that makes sense. I’m down in Atlanta so we only see snow once every several years. But we get a boat load of rain in spring and summer. Ive considered having two sets of tires for summer and winter/other but it never made much sense considering our weather patterns.
Yea I think you're just fine with all seasons. You can look up ones that have the best rain performance. The only scenarios where I think two sets of tires for on road use makes sense:
For areas that get snow:
- Snow tires and non snow tires
For drivers with high performance sports cars:
- All season or snow tires and high performance summer tires
I guess I'll shill out for Tire rack. Please check out their YouTube channel. They have a similar video with more tires. They just recently uploaded winter testing video for All Weather / All Seasons / and LT type tires.
They bought Tire Rack a few years back, but appear to be operating it as its own company. They do push you harder in their checkout flows to get your tires installed at Discount Tire, though.
Is the Cintaurato WeatherActive the same as the Scorpion WeatherActvie just car vs suv? Weird, my CX-5 Cintaurato's now, but all the tire websites say that only the Scorpion fits my car.
I have the CC2's on my 330i. It's RWD and they did great last winter. My only complaint, and it's a big one with how much I drive, is that they absolutely murdered my mileage. I would get 38-40 mpg in warmer months with shitty all season Pirelli's it had on it when I bought it and my best tank so far with the CC2's is just over 35 mpg. They got worse mileage than the wider, actual winter set off my M3 that I ran on it the previous year. I'm still going to put them on my wife's CX-30 this year. I'll never buy a traditional US all-season tire again.
I've got the CC2 on my Bolt EUV and been running them the past 8 months or so. I've found I generally lost 15% of my range compared to OEM so this tracks. MPG/Efficiency definitely takes a hit with CC2 but with all the other benefits I think it's worth it.
Not part of the test, but Ive had Toyo Celsius on my Rav4 for a couple of years now and have no complaints getting through Buffalo winters.
I see a ton of Cross Climates on vehicles here too, so those must be a hit.
Ugh I hate to read the CC2s don’t ride well…I’m wanting to step down 18>17s on my car for the ride but if I get a stiffer tire it may not make much difference.
Trying to find an all weather tire that has good comfort over bumps and won’t tank my MPG…which are probably conflicting ideas
The CC2’s on my GRC has made the car so much more compliant compared to the Pilot Sport 4’s they came with. Ive been happy with the ride overall, there is plenty of grip for daily driving and is much less jarring over bumps. My only gripe was the CC2’s have a pretty light steering feel, that was the biggest difference I noticed.
When did tread depths get so shallow? 11/32 would be shallow for a tire that is 265/70R16, 12/32 would be about normal for an on road tire. All terrain tires are even deeper, 14/32 and above is considered good.
That rubber must be plastic hard if they're getting the same tread life warranty out of 10/32 that I'm getting with tires that have 14-17/32
As a self admitted Michelin/BFGoodrich shill, down to the starcrosses on my bike, I’ll gladly vouch for the crossclimates. More than sufficient for the Midwest winters my dad goes through with his 4x2 with a few chunks of scrap metal in the bed.
In my corner of the Midwest, we don’t get much snowfall every year and the temperature will vacillate above and below 45F, so a set of dedicated winters is a pain to pick the right time to install. I like my Pilot Sport All seasons, but they’re not very good in the wet and only passable in the snow, so I’ll probably switch to one of these 3PMSF when it comes time
I do love me some tire tests. When i do wear out my winters i might give an all weather a try and see if i like em. Im glad the tire companies put the effort into a good performing tire for all conditions considering how wide the old all season designation ran.
Where do you live and how bad are your winters? Prairie Canada for me and all-weathers just don't even compare to dedicated winters. Better than all seasons, yes. But not even close to as good as winters.
I live in pennsylvania, winters are kind of 50/50. Some years no snow at all, sometimes itll dump a few feet. So i just have a spare set of wheels with general altimax arctic winters that have always done very well in snow for me.
Perfect! My tires are starting to get towards the end of their life.
Seems like the Goodyear tires are the ones I am going to go with.
The other choices are significantly more expensive, or not available with my specific size.
