Anyone else get to that point in their project where they consider burning down their shop to collect the insurance money?

You have a shop? Must suck to be rich.
ratrodder49@reddit
Felt this in my soul.
TootBreaker@reddit
How long has it been?
ratrodder49@reddit
Haven’t had room to work on it for a year now, prior to that I didn’t have time to mess with it for at least six months
TootBreaker@reddit
what if you put up one of those 12x20 plastic carports in front of that door, then roll the car out to do work, roll it back in when taking a break?
FesteringNeonDistrac@reddit
The problem is that in as little as 15 to 20 minutes, empty garage space can fill, leaving nowhere for the car to return to.
TootBreaker@reddit
Oh yeah, forgot about that! So also need a collection of inflatable pool toys to 'hold the space' until it's needed again for the car
Far_Kangaroo2550@reddit
That car looks badass
spokismONE@reddit
Mann if only having a shop = rich
I would really like that :(
Ghost17088@reddit
Right? I had a 2 car garage that was split with my wife’s car and storage until we moved. I now have a 2 car detached garage that I am slowly getting setup as my shop, but it still has to serve as storage for things like kids bikes, seasonal decorations, etc.
Famous_Confection441@reddit
I have the same exact setup Haha.. I feel better now 😂
Ybor_Rooster@reddit
I have a driveway of broken and cracked cement with no overhead cover. Then, my tools are kept in the shed outback and they're transported using a garden wagon over uneven grass.

Wait are you telling me there is a time before that feeling sets in lol.
In all seriousness it gets better sometimes I walk away from a project and do one of my other hobbies. The big thing is to not compare yourself and your progress to others (especially online) and just take small steps. We have years and projects never truly finish, we will always find something else we want to change. The project is for fun I always tell myself not to make it my job.

Some of the builds I see on IG And the autotopia YouTube channel are so good they make me wanna give up lmao
spokismONE@reddit
Secretly, most of those just look really good and don’t actually work well.

Yeah that's what I did today. Drove up to the family ranch that has some neglected chores and ran some trash to the dump. Then I stopped by the shop and decided to pop in the front springs on my daily driver I've had stashed for months. Felt amazing to take a cheat day and step away from something I've been toiling on non stop since December. And my daily truck rides a million times better now that I've got better coils with some new bushings. I was steering towards the bumps on the ride home.

This is good advice. I have done it myself, and it saved a project. Im currently doing the same for another project that's one in waiting because of frustration and other because on skills needed. Im working on skills needed todo better on project a while project b waits.

LOL - my FIL scribbled "Set on fire for insurance and sell to the Lochness Monster for Tree Fiddy" on my car work list on my project Rabbit a few years back. Had to save it as it was hilarious
KittiesRule1968@reddit
Dat gotDAMN Loch Ness Monstah!

HAH - 84 Mk1 GTI all setup for Scca autox with a 13:1 JH swapped motor and lots of suspension.
KittiesRule1968@reddit
Gorgeous car!!!!!! I very nearly got my parents talked into getting me a brand new 84 GTI as a graduation present lol.
84FSP@reddit
Thanks sir! Had her 20yrs and just finished restoration number two. Have fresh hoosiers to hit the autox course staring in May!

Uh no

Ah you think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!
Dinglebutterball@reddit
That’s usually when I stop, drink a beer, ignore the thing that’s torturing me, and work on something dumb and fun.
GunnerValentine@reddit (OP)
Exactly what happened today and it was awesome. Got a lot of side shop/home/personal vehicle shit I've been putting off for months. With a very good amount of RR in between.
TomGissing@reddit
That's when you go buy another project. 👍

Made this comment to my buddy while scrolling thru Facebook marketplace today...
"ya know if we just pulled one more project into this shop, we could really get some shit done."
brybrews@reddit
I swear the dash on mine is lubricated with curse words. Still have nightmares on that dang thing. Joys of being so mad at one thing you can’t think about anything else so it must be a version of relaxing. I could see a skit that parody’s Robin Williams “golf” skit only about project cars.
The_Irons@reddit
Haha yeah. After buying what I thought was mostly a clean car, I uncovered more and more rust repair spots. I way overpaid for that car for what I got. Lesson learned
mclms1@reddit
Theres no bag limit on project cars.
Confident_Guide_3866@reddit
Once I saw the rust
Poil336@reddit
Yes. More often than I should
stormaggedon23@reddit
No, but I am considering shelling out the money to pay someone else to do the bodywork. Slowly losing my mind sanding over here.
