Who's going to stack up on half price Easter eggs Monday? The Sainsbury's near me has thousands left, pallets on every aisle

Why so many left this year? Price rises & smaller sizes?

I hate the taste of easter egg chocolate. I don't know why. For some reason, it tastes nothing like regular chocolate.

The prices have been crazy this year. I'm a huge fan of Creme Eggs but I've abstained this year due to the increased price / decreased size.

I was a cadburys fan until the Americans bought it and filled it with chemicals. Not for me anymore, brand is dead

The sad thing is kids are now getting Americanised palates. A lot of under 20's I have met now think chicken cant be eaten without adding loads of seasoning and flavouring like excessive herbs, thats because the American chlorinated chicken is flavourless, not ours. They also seem to like the taste of Cadburys chocolate. Is there any hope left for our kids?

Watching a former housemate cook chicken.....he just dumped a ton of seasoning on it, and cooked it in a frying pan. I had to leave the house as I was having trouble breathing due to various spices wafting in the air.... Meanwhile. my chicken was marinating in the fridge, overnight. He was in his 20's, I was in my late 50's.

Plain chicken is still pretty flavorless even when its high quality. Liking to season your food and make it taste better is hardly getting an americanised palate.

IKR Imagine being in a country with a melting pot of cultures from around the world to simply be put under the 'America' umbrella like it's the only country seasoning chicken out of the entire world šŸ’€

What other countries bleach chicken and take al lof the flavour out? And I didnt say just seasoning it, I said adding excessive seasoning and flavouring. Its a big difference.

Cadbury's made in the UK cannot change its recipe, so the crap Cadburys you have is from European factories. Pro tip, if you check the code, below the barcode and it has a bunch of letters and numbers starting with OBO, then the chocolate is made in Birmingham and is the unchanged recipe for pre Kraft.
View on Reddit #54113840

Try and find the Cadburys with the OBO serial number since those use the original recipe (made in Birmingham) the rest have an altered recipe

I’d like to stock up on discounted eggs and chocolate but I’m assuming that’s not going to be an option. Last year I made the mistake of waiting until Easter Day itself to go buy an egg but all my local shops were completely out! Years ago it was common for seasonal sweets/chocolate etc to be heavily discounted for a while after Halloween/Xmas/Easter but now shops just seem to get rid of it rather than put it on offer 😢
View on Reddit #54078381

gg11618@reddit

We thought the same thing last Easter and Christmas. It seems that retailers would rather put the stuff back into storage or throw it away than sell it cheap. Maybe they hope it puts shoppers in the mindset of "oh my gosh I'll have to get this stuff quickly next year before it sells out."
View on Reddit #54083357

LambonaHam@reddit

I'm certain it just goes in to storage. Last year I went in the on the Saturday and there were loads on the shelves. The following Monday they were all gone. No way they sold all those so quickly.
View on Reddit #54102790

JustJo84@reddit

Usually, the best before dates on seasonal products are quite short. I sell confectionery, and Christmas and Easter chocolate tends to have a best before span of about 4-6 months (off the top of my head). 'Normal' chocolate is generally much longer. So I'm not sure if they do go into storage? I don't know where they go, but I always have to reduce remaining stock due to the short best before dates. Very very rarely does any of the chocolate have over 12 months.
View on Reddit #54148542

PangolinMandolin@reddit

I wonder if that's why they start selling them so early. They're trying to shift the year old stock to get an idea of how many new ones they need to make for this year

I bought a bag of celebration at Christmas, only noticed when I got them home that the use by date was in Feb of this year. So not out of date, but not far off. Definitely a bag that had gone back into storage from last year I reckon

I thought about this for a while, a lot of the mods sympathetic to the hateful views. Now this is going to be critical of the right wing and left wing. But the mods essentially put in rules where you need a lot of upvotes to even post or comment on the sub. There was a sub called baduk where they would amp up each others islamophobic/racist commentary. So they all nearly became approved posters and commenters. Secondly the sub has a huge influx of American, Australian, Israeli, Eastern European, and Russian users who hate Muslims and non-whites. Lastly, the left wing who are predominantly British and not international have become super desensitised to the Islamophobia and Racism. They won’t fight back on those posts. If theres posts that are seen to be anti-women, anti-lgbt, or anti-trans then they will intervene. Course theres an element we can discuss feminationalism and homonationalism but who knows.

No. I love chocolate. I'm very religious. But I find the commercialisation of Christmas and Easter sickening. They have both lost all meaning. I don't believe in church dogma. There are huge problems with such organisations in general. But to take the basic messaging of "be kind to each other" and twist it for corporate greed, manipulating all of us to spend more money on meaningless crap is kind of gross. Spend the time and money doing something with friends and family instead. No one is going to remember how many Easter eggs they got 20 years ago.

I buy Terrys Chocolate oranges (plus the plain and mint versions) as you get more chocolate for the money compared with an Easter egg. (£1.63 at Asda right now and £1.75 at Tesco and Morrison's.)

I was in my local Asda earlier, they’ve already taken down two of the shelves that were full of Easter eggs a couple of days ago. I’d love to stock up, but I doubt there’ll be any left.

In recent years they seem to be managing their stock alot better. Past couple of years they have run out on the Saturday. I know I didnt buy my kids any eggs till that Saturday and ended up having to get them delivered on AmazonĀ

It’s a tradition for me now. I don’t bother getting any eggs until Easter Monday and then find the best reductions!

It’s a bit ridiculous that chocolate eggs now cost more per 100g than a leg of lamb.
View on Reddit #54079674

Complex_Bother832@reddit

I know! Can’t believe they cost more than a glass jar of lee kum kee chiu chow chili oil (300g). Or I seen the eggs were priced more than 3 packets of corn beef! Lightly salted

People struggling for money, combined with supermarkets taking the royal piss with the price of easter eggs.
View on Reddit #54078313

aliceinlondon@reddit

I agree that they are expensive, but it isn’t necessarily the fault of the supermarkets (or not just them anyway). The price of cocoa has skyrocketed since 2023 due to poor harvestĀ

I wouldn't rely on it though... I've been in the position of not seeing someone I wanted to buy an egg for until the Monday and they were all gone. I worked at the local co-op during lockdown and we'd sold it by the Thursday before Easter 😬

With cocoa crops in such bad shape, I wouldn't be surprised if the prices cuts after Easter aren't that deep. Might see 25% off instead of 50%.

I’m glad the country is boycotting these insane prices for even thinner eggs. Absolutely scandalous stuff from the manufacturers.

Typically shops are closed on Easter Monday And by Tuesday they've cleared all the Easter Eggs from the shelves...
View on Reddit #54079799

No shops round me close on Easter Monday. Limited trading hours, but still open. Always used to work it at a supermarket as when I was there bank holidays were paid extra.

In that case they close on Easter Sunday and by Monday they've cleared all the Easter Eggs from the shelves...

Buying the eggs for the kids easter egg hunt. Bastarding things were 2 for £8 for like 12 smallish eggs.

When will they go on sale? Monday? I'll be waiting outside my Morrisons with a rolled up Matalan catalogue.
View on Reddit #54081864

I doubt there will be eggs on Monday. I've had the same idea every year for many years and there are never any to be found on Easter Monday, I think the supermarkets remove them on purpose so people can't do this.

I've said the same thing every year my entire adult life and come Tuesday there's never as many left as you expect. I had to pop out today to get some bits for lunch and the easter egg shelves were being stripped bare by shoppers.

The supermarkets are actually pretty good at estimating demand. You'll be amazed how many get bought today and tomorrow. I went last year looking for a bargain and left empty handed.

The normal eggs they sell now for Ā£6-8 uses to be only a few years ago the cheap egg. The huge eggs were Ā£10-11 I remember and now they are like Ā£15 with way more packaging too. I do enjoy an Easter egg, something about the taste of the chocolate is different in a good way. Although for a few years I’ve never seen them sold off that cheap after Easter Sunday, our local Sainsbury’s last year I assumed they sent them back or sold to a discount chain. I know our Tesco donates tons to local food banks if they are left over

The way theyves squashed them to make them smaller, I wouldn't even bother with them being discounted.

Chocolate has gone up in price so much in the past 12 months or so, many times I’ve walked down the aisle and just continued walking after seeing the prices. If they’re close to Ā£1/100g for Cadbury/Mars I might pick some up, or Ā£2/100g for something nicer.
