The American leading AI companies are leaning more towards propriety models than ever. Did OpenAI open-sourced its aging GPT-3? No! Why do you expect Musk to do that? AI labs open source their first models to garner support from the community and to build a name for themselves. But, many of them switch to close source afterwards. Honestly grok 1 and grok 2 were pretty bad at launch to me. Grok 3 when 4 comes out will be the first one that’s really interesting to me. That said they finally released grok 3 on their api. I think that is the last big requirement before they will open source grok 2. So should be soon…?
