If you were asked to name a notable UK crime, which would be the first to come to your mind?

The problem was not "with men", but a single lunatic rapist murderor. Sutcliffe had brown hair and drove a lorry, but you wouldn't say the problem was with "brown haired people" or "lorry drivers". I agree it seems extremely unfair to ask all women to obey a curfew, but unfortunately this animal was targetting women. The curfew was an attempt to limit women being murdered for goodness sake. Casting assumptions on all men and restricting their movement is not how the justice system works - you would either have to make it compulsory, which would unfairly target the entire male population with house arrest, or make it voluntary, which sadly would likely have just been ignored by many men, and women would still have been killed by the ripper. The police needed to do something with the public to try and limit the chances of another murder - telling the victim group to be vigilant and stay at home is unfair on the masses of women, but it is the most realistic approach (in contrast to much of the bungling the police made of the case). I have a daughter and son. If there was a killer on the loose murdering young women, and we knew it was a man, I can't see how it would make sense to say to my kids, "son, you stay at home because the killer is a man. Daughter, have fun at the party and come back as late as you like".
