I always felt bad for the build team when they had to do some ridiculous myth

While Kari, Tori and Grant got to obviously do some amazing myths, some of them were absolute stinkers and I honestly feel bad that they had to waste their time with them. Talking to plants? Ugh. Almost second hand embarrassment from that one, I always fast forward.

I’m sure some felt lame, but the show has a good ebb and flow of cool, silly, serious, and just the kind of things you care about only when you’re arguing with a friend about it.

Pyramid power was the stupidest myth ever tested, in my opinion
thebigphils@reddit
Pretty sure it was Tory who said that one was the only myth he was actually embarrassed to test.
Evan64m@reddit
I think they did it just to say “this is stupid and we’re not doing this type of thing again”
MattCW1701@reddit
And I think they forced the producers to stay away from those type myths after that one.
ElSupremoLizardo@reddit
Threadjack, but I liked Jessi better than Kari.
citrus_sugar@reddit
I loved the plant taking one and the fact that the heavy metal music was the winner was hilarious.
I also like the pine tree needle myth.
butt_honcho@reddit
I've always wondered what Kari's string of bleeps ending with "freshman" was.
Jake0024@reddit
Didn't the playing music to plants thing end up getting confirmed?
Malakai0013@reddit
I think plausible, but don't quote me on it.
Jake0024@reddit
I recall they even figured out which genre (metal) was the most effective
Historical-Shock7965@reddit
I'm not super sciencey so I actually loved the more every day myths the best. Loved when they tested idioms like bull in a china shop.
EmperorsChamberMaid_@reddit
What do you mean, Mind control, pyramid power, talking to plants, a rolling stones gathers no moss, folding paper seven times, where do socks go in the washing machine (well, almost) they had so many good myths!
/s
Moakmeister@reddit
…what was wrong with the paper folding myth? That’s a real conundrum, a super fun episode, and they even broke a world record.
EmperorsChamberMaid_@reddit
It felt stupid as folding paper will always increase its density so it doesn't matter if it's A4 or the size of a football pitch, it'll still end up too thick to fold. They only got around it by using wafer thin paper
Moakmeister@reddit
Yes.
What’s the problem
EmperorsChamberMaid_@reddit
It's like testing the myth, is water wet. We know the outcome, it's all a bit pointless how they try to fluff it up to be entertaining.
PessemistBeingRight@reddit
This depends heavily on whether or not you're using the layperson or chemist definitions here. Apologies in advance if you know this already!
Strictly speaking, water is not wet, it makes things wet when it is aDsorbed (yes, with a D not a B) to a surface. If you coat yourself in grease and jump in the ocean, you aren't wet because the water is not adsorbing to the surface of you (grease being hydrophobic), even though you might be fully immersed in water. However, most people find this unsatisfying because they definitely "wet" more by things being a liquid than by what is occurring on a molecular scale.
JasontheFuzz@reddit
They got around it by folding paper that was the size of a warehouse. They set a world record.
ExcaliburZSH@reddit
I like the rock rolling for the build itself. They really showed how to develop a testing methodology. Did the results change the world, no, BUT the science was pretty good
Southern-Vehicle-872@reddit
Folding paper was cool man idk what you're talking about lol totally right on the rest tho
Sudden-Wash4457@reddit
Folding paper seven times was actually pretty impressive
tactical_waifu_sim@reddit
I loved folding paper seven times lol. I like solving pointless problems we already know the answers to in ridiculous ways though.
Offtherailspcast@reddit
I always felt bad when the build or myth clearly wasn't going well and then Jamie or Adam had to step in haha
RooFPV@reddit
I would bet some/most of that was fabricated by producers for the “drama.”
Funkytadualexhaust@reddit
They seemed to enjoy the plant one though
92xSaabaru@reddit
That episode was a great early episode. Yeah, talking to plants is kinda ridiculous, but the result of all the music and talking greenhouses growing more was interesting. There's always the chance of unknown variables skewing results, but it would be interesting to see further research into sound affecting plants.
shanejayell@reddit
I suspect often it was budget. They needed a segment for a episode, but couldn't afford anything big, so we got stuff like the Vodka Myths episodes.
Burning_Wreck@reddit
I think it's OK that the show tested some stupid myths, and then said, "We're not doing this anymore."
Appropriate_Melon@reddit
This is when it helps me to remember that one of their primary objectives was to make an entertaining show.
VendaGoat@reddit
Yup and in my opinion they succeeded
Elderberry-West@reddit
Idk. They got paid. Had fun.had fun with them. Made fun of them. Im pretty sure id take that job and pay over mine. Plus i definitely wouldn't mind working with kari😉 and tori
AccomplishedMud110@reddit
I am glad that they decided not to do such myths early on, but also happy that they did them? Like for the number of people who fall for such stuff is not insignificant and I think atleast some of it was reduced by there efforts.
On the same note would have loved to see some more animal myths and silly myths even though it was so hard to work with them.
Like black cat crossing road, a cockroach on its back can't get up, mosquitoes are attracted to uv light, effectiveness of solt in deterring insects etc.,
