Ever done the leap of faith off the top of a wooden telegraph pole? If you shake a little the pole shakes more.

I've not taken a leap of faith since I played Assassin's Creed last, that was 10 years ago

Because its web is attached to the window frame, and transmits the vibration from you closing the glass to Mr Spider.

If I open and close the window again a few seconds later it doesn't happen. It seems to be something the spider chooses to do

Hmm. I stand corrected, then 🤔 Maybe closing the window makes it think you're a predator, and it's a way of looking more intimidating?

I think you nailed it. I can see how it might work, if I saw a guy doing it down the pub I would almost certainly avoid eye contact with him for the evening

I have these tiny spiders with long hairlike legs that do this if you disturb them. I think it's a way of freaking out a predator.

The web is on the outside of my window, I just cranked the window a little and he goes into full on shake-it mode
