a site that isn't far-left, but not right-wing either. Lemmy ain't it.

i am on lemmy , one problem, i checked mod logs, and i see things like
transgender-critical comments and communities getting removed, as the most obvious thing that should be free speech.
lemmy is heavily moderated, as well as the same problems on reddit happening again on lemmy, such as power mods, basicly, i am losing interest in lemmy.
jhguth@reddit
Well that’s not what free speech means
Make your own instance if you want to decide how to moderate
Megalordow@reddit
That's exactly what free speech means - freedom to criticize. Anyone, anything. If You ban some criticism, you ban free speech. We can discuss it such solution is good, doesn't change that it is anti-free speech.
jhguth@reddit
Free speech is freedom from the government censoring your speech, it doesn’t mean freedom to use a private social media however you want
AVeryBadMon@reddit
This is just simply false. Free speech ≠ 1st amendment.
The 1st amendment is a law in the US that prevents government from censoring or persecuting opinions or beliefs. Free speech is a principle about the idea that people should freely express their beliefs and opinions without fear of persecution or censorship.
jhguth@reddit
No you’re misunderstanding, its not unlimited speech - it’s moderated and no one wants hateful nonsense
NotNicholascollette@reddit
he's talking about free speech on the website not in america
jhguth@reddit
That’s not a thing though, websites are allowed to to moderate
redditGGmusk@reddit (OP)
x is bad
jhguth@reddit
And yet it matches your value system
triangularRectum420@reddit
Hell no. The most obvious thing should be tolerance. The only way to achieve that is to supress the intolerance. “Free speech” is important, but when it is used to justify transphobia, it is called bigotry.
NotNicholascollette@reddit
the only way to be tolerant is to be intolerant of stuff I don't like....
triangularRectum420@reddit
Yes, it's called the “Paradox of Tolerance”. I've literally linked the Wikipedia article to it in my original comment.
NotNicholascollette@reddit
I think you missed the point of my comment..."I don't like"
HeartyBeast@reddit
There no “Lemmy” with a single moderation policy. There are a number of independent instances, with their own policies, some of which federate with others.
redditGGmusk@reddit (OP)
So there is no single admin for all the lemmyverse? Trying to understand. When i watch the modlog, it shows moderation from multiple lemmyverses.
moderation log: https://lemmy.world/modlog?page=1&actionType=ModRemoveCommunity
Okay, for anyone curious, i was able to find a community somewhat related to my interests, but it's only visible from lemmyverse.net/ search, not inside lemmy.world, for some reason.
DouglasJFalcon@reddit
Lemmy.world has the most users, but that doesn't mean you should sign up there. The search there will only show the communities they federate with while Lemmyverse searches all communities no matter where they're created.
Lemmy.world doesn't allow piracy but there's still a thriving piracy community on Lemmy.
Die4Ever@reddit
you can create an account on the instance that hosts that community
in lemmyverse you would unset your home instance so that you can open it directly, or open lemmyverse incognito so it doesn't remember your home instance
mighty3mperor@reddit
Might be defederated - what is it?
Same-Set8163@reddit
If you want “free speech” (right winger code for hate speech) go have fun on X and say the hateful shit you want.
Megalordow@reddit
Free speech is not code for hate speech, they are not the same. Hate speech is component of free speech. You can have hate speech without free speech, but You can;t have free speech without hate speech.

Zuuman@reddit
You are asking for the impossible. The way reddit is built and any alternative also make it so that it will aways end up skewing one side or the other as more and more alike minded people join communities and push the sub overton window to their beliefs.
This is just how self moderated communities work.
redditGGmusk@reddit (OP)
Yeah pretty much, everything is either too left or too right to my tastes. I wonder where all the centrists go.
Cpvrx@reddit
The best thing to do would be to find niche communities that have better moderators. There’s actually a list of online communities on the forum directory. You may also like Roflmao or DiscussionHq. These communities aren’t too shabby. The 32bit cafe is also pretty good.
Spirited_Seaweed7927@reddit
But you already have Xitter. It's literally run by a Nãzì. You already have everything you need there.
Silent-Revolution105@reddit
Starting to look like the AHs are moving to lemmy, making reddit a little easier to take for a while
redditGGmusk@reddit (OP)
I found people on lemmy are alot nicer but maybe that's just the early community energy.
Electronic-Phone1732@reddit
Hahaha no, we're kicking them out.
Electronic-Phone1732@reddit
Those lemmy servers were moderated (properly, might I add), but others are not.
I won't point them out for you though, but lemmy achieves free speech this way.
kazarnowicz@reddit
”Far-left” = respects people’s personal lives and science and medical professionals. This checks out from an account that’s active in the Asmongold subreddit.
SpiritualHiker@reddit
I've started using multiple sites and services to not be funneled into astroturfed agendas. X/Twitter, BlueSky, Reddit, all the federated alternatives, etc.
A one-stop shop is not it.
