I was there this week. The body had washed ashore and they were chopping it up to remove it. Presumably so that it wasn’t a bio-hazard on the shore of a beach that is well visited by tourists. Pretty brutal, but necessary.

wow, really? we left only a few days after i posted this but when i looked on the local facebook groups i didn’t see much more about the whale, so i assumed it had been removed a while ago now. definitely a major bio-hazard, so many sheep/cattle are often roaming just meters away from that part of the beach, and of course the curious tourists that bring their dogs along to have a nosey aswell lol

extra info:
the whale had reportedly travelled from ireland to the firth of clyde over a few days, and was seen a couple of days before its confirmed death in the shallow sea at ettrick bay beach, bute. the whale is suspected to have died of natural causes/disease rather than pollutants, but a necropsy is underway and nothing is confirmed. the whale is 14m long, and smells really fucking bad. poor baby:(
