Who is keeping Lincoln and Buick alive and what are their prospects for the future?

The only people I can think of that actively search for cars from these manufacturers are old folks that grew up with them. I don't know I single person in my age group (30s) that drives or wants a Lincoln or Buick. Is there a certain age where you cross over to the other side and suddenly desire one of these cars, or are their prospective buyers slowly dying off and the companies running out of time to make something younger generations are interested in?

Lincolns are being kept alive by the ditsy white soccer moms who do peloton, work out at equinox, and still take social media as seriously as a teen/college student. They’re also kept alive by basic non mechanically inclined husbands who just so happened to get swooned by their salesman at the local ford dealership where his pickleball bro bought his F250 for city driving. I’m serious lol, in Houston this is the generic norm. It’s the F150/ white Aviator or Corvair copy paste. Then as they get older it evolves into an F250/Raptor & Navigator or Aviator. Buicks, not sure if you live under a rock but where can you buy a luxury vehicle with all the amenities at the price it’s at? Just gotta be okay with a 3 cylinder or 4 cylinder.

I'm 30, I have a 2016 Lincoln MKX I like smooth rides man, I had a Honda CR-V prior and I much prefer the MKX. Pretty much the same cost for insurance, same cost to operate fuel-wise. They're great second-hand vehicles, their value drop so quickly. Which I see it as a good thing since I'm going to keep this vehicle until it dies. Why pay 80k for a vehicle when you can wait 8 years and pay 14k. With the prices of cars in Canada right now it's asinine. The price of my MKX was the same price of a Kia Sportage V6 of the same year.

The new Lincoln Nautilus is an absolute hit. Most space by far in the segment. The Buick Envista great looking car for the price point. You got teenager youtubers wanting the Nautilus because of that redesign. Lincoln pivoted to only 4 models, all SUVs as thats the highest demand.

If GM had bothered to market the Regal TourX at all instead of that stupid "is that your buick" commercial, then I might've been interested in an AWD, 6-speed, turbo-I4 station wagon. But I think by that point they were already in talks to sell Opel to some Chinese company and the Regals were based off of an Opel platform.

I have one. I’m 55. Bought new in 2019. My first new GM ever. Yeah, wasn’t marketed at all aside from that multicar commercial, so basically stillborn. Opel was purchased ~2019 by Peugeot, which is now part of the Fiat fiasco group (Chrysler, Jeep, Fiat, Peugeot, etc.). They only imported a few thousand of them in 2018 through 2020 model years, I want to say maybe 10k total. I see about three of them per year in my metro area. I like….driving something very unique. It handles quite well with the right tires. Usually I’m a Honda/Acura guy with a side of Toyota. This car intrigued me and largely still does. Not fast, but quick, and cruises like butter. Decent MPG for its size & ICE —25mpg combined. Extremely utilitarian with some near-luxury touches. GM fucked up on the seats, they should’ve been a lot nicer leather. That said, 95k miles and overall still holding up well. As good quality as my recent Acuras from 2007 forward. Mine (top line) listed at $42k, I paid 30 new. It should’ve been priced at around 35. I just had a repair done on the TourX AWD — dealer said it would’ve been $2800 if not covered by extended warranty. Contrast that with the quoted turbo repair on my old Acura of $8000 at 120k miles. Other than that, the only thing I’ve done to the TourX is replace consumables. Still rolling w/ the original brakes (!). Sorta’ looking around now to see what else is out there. Not sure if I will buy or not. Tariffs obviously not helping. FWIW — some stat came out from JD powers or something in 2019 or ‘20 stating Buick at that time had among the youngest average buyers of all auto brands. 🤷‍♂️ And yeah, they are big in China. IIRC the Envision is made there, among other models. From what I’ve read, Lincoln has been on the chopping block for a good while; Ford doesn’t really know what to do with it so I think they remain alive from sheer inertia.

If you have me a full sized sedan like a Park Avenue with the stylings of the 94/95 body, yes, I would in a heart beat. I am so, so tired of Buick not putting out their sedans in the US. I miss boats, I miss 4 and 2 seaters, I miss that beautiful feel of the 90's models' engine roaring while you sat on a cloud suspension.

You sound like you would dig the La Crosse. It was a pretty sweet luxo cruiser. I think they discontinued after 2019MY. Styling was pretty amazing in my opinion. Definitely in that vein of what you’re talking about… but a more sophisticated/sporty look.

I’m an open minded dude. If they made a version of the Envista with a faster engine I’d definitely consider getting one, it would at least be a contender in that category’s list. The Regal wagon seemed ok, and if the Regal GS was executed a bit more competently in terms of sportiness I might have gotten one.

A big part of HD failing is refusal to compete with the Japanese and Chinese brands in models and cost. Young people don't want a $12k 800 lb fat glide with 64hp. They want a light, agile and affordable bike that doesn't get 25mpg.

Sounds like the old-timers that stuck with Harley through the AMF years and loved wrenching on their bikes more than actually riding them. Rattling, low compression shovelheads that leaked oil so bad they almost ran like a "total loss" system.

Ah yes... when Harley actually tried to sue Honda when they started making single-pin crank V-twin engines. I actually had a Shadow 750 for a little while with one of those motors. Wasn't a horrible bike, but it was definitely a bit slow for a 750, as it was using essentially 1940s motorcycle engine technology. But, when I first rode it to work, a lot of my coworkers actually thought I had a Harley when they heard me coming.

They might not get the % of the market share that they did with boomers but when each generation hits the “ow I have joint/old people pain and money for a new luxury car to try and alleviate that” they’ll pivot to emphasis the “it’s your favorite American brand car but with comfy seats and a big boaty suspension that keeps you from feeling speed bumps/curbs” and the desire to buy them will be back albeit without the nostalgia of yesteryears cool cars. Now if later generations will have any money to buy these cars, that’s a different discussion.

Regarding “not liking the name”, the Buick Motor Car Company was founded by David Dunbar Buick, who later sold the car company to WC Durant (who was in the process of putting General Motors together) …so, basically, it’s “someone’s last name” that you don’t care for (as opposed to a made up word)

Lincoln is simply Ford's luxury brand. All of their vehicles are either rebadged and up-optioned versions of other Ford vehicles or based on a common platform. The Lincoln Navigator is simply a rebadged Ford Expedition, the Lincoln parts are cosmetic.

I know who you’re talking about and it’s very cool. They didn’t add two cylinders to the block though. They used a standard ford triton V10 block, the secret was the heads as that engine never had 4V heads available straight from ford though they did prototype it. Ford did however make 4V heads for the 5.4 V8 which is extremely closely related. So what they did was get a set of V8 4V heads and extended them for the extra cylinder. That is one badass Lincoln they’re building though.

Oh I'm a bit of a psycho with cars. I bought the first one at 5k miles and sold at 40k. The 2nd one I bought at 9k miles and I'm at 28k now. For a 7 year old car, I get a ton of comments from people assuming it's brand new. I'm sad I won't be able to find another one with that kind of mileage, they were discontinued after '22 and the (not undeserved) cult following gobbles up anything half-decent that pops up on the market.

I live in Buick City… Flint Michigan. Buicks are nice. I personally dive a Cadillac but the owner of my company’s daughter, who’s about 21 has an Envista. It’s sharp!! Way sportier than any other brand equivalent. Lincoln is on the same level as Cadillac, BMW, Audi, Mercedes…. Obviously the German higher models are superior to what Lincoln’s top models offer. But it is still a luxury brand. And if you look you’ll find some bad a$$ Lincoln’s. The Continental is awesome. And they have a MKZ with the twin-turbo eco boost v-6. That would kill most vehicles on the road, and still has the ride and comfort of any BMW, Audi, Mercedes.

Hard to believe now, but Buick used to be a serious performance brand, for people who wanted to move into the performance luxury segment. They basically invented this segment in the American market. The *last" of these was probably the Grand National. It started decades before, with the Electra and the Wildcat.

I drove a family members 1970 Buick Wildcat convertible to prom in 1988. It was striking compared with the Ford Taurus, Honda Accord, and Acura Integra of the late '80s. Quite obviously of a different era in automotive design and technology. Now I'm driving an almost 18-year-old family crossover and it looks almost indiscernible at first blush from those of today.

There was a lot of overlap between Buick and Olds, it was like a sibling rivalry. I've read that the leadership of GM at the time liked it that way. I think maybe Buick was positioned closer to Cadillac on the upgrade escalator than Olds.

The interior of the 1996 I owned felt like I was commanding a star ship bridge console, spacious leg room with a bench seat, the full size proportions to cart around 4 friends and luggage in the massive trunk, and that stupid little hood ornament adorning the borderline muscle car look is what did it for me. Bonus points for it having functioning air ride, that fucker floated, almost never felt a bump, which is important to me in the Midwest. Le Sabres are fantastic in their own right, but it just leaves me wanting for something more, like that full luxury experience was just out of my grasp. I am also slightly biased in that I don't think it ever received a supercharger despite how nice that would have been for the lighter of the two cars.

My current one is an 88' Reatta that feels way ahead of its time, tech and performance wise. Reattas are totally underrated, IMO. You probably know already that was the first digital screen in any production car (at least from a US manufacturer). Lots of good ideas in that car, but some of them weren't executed very well, so ultimately not successful. The curse of being ahead of your time!

For sure, and it's a surprisingly fast crtv touch, I was genuinely surprised when I got my hands on one. It feels great, the feedback from the engine and transmission make it feel like it's truly alive, they got the sportiness down pat. I genuinely have no gripes with it other than the unfortunate slush box known as the 440-t4 attached to an otherwise great engine. I'm still debating on losing touch screen functionality with a Series II swap, it is such a genuinely helpful diagnostic tool for when things act up.

I owned a 2014 Regal that I loved. When I drove the Envista it was disappointing. I owned a Nissan Altima at the time, and honestly, the Altima put it to shame. It drives like an SUV. Makes sense. Except it's as practical as a compact sedan. The walls are so thin, and the climate control so weak that it couldn't keep the car cool on a summer day. Even if they did get the job done, it would still suck because the vent positions made it impossible to get right. The rear seats don't have vents or cupholders. I mean, come on. No cup holder??? It also has shockingly little storage. Not even a sunglass holder. It has such a bad engine/transmission. Like, can't pass on the highway. Every merge was a betting game on whether I could get up to speed. The engine sound was rugged too. Sure, it's pretty. Everything is pretty now. Hyundai/Kia started making attractive small cars years ago. Now everyone is catching up. Gone are the days of ugly sentras. There are plenty of inexpensive, attractive CUVs and small cars. It's not a selling point anymore. Frankly, the Trax is $5k cheaper and far more practical. If you like the platform there is little reason not to pick the trax.

Eh, the 1.2L is tiny but it has plenty of low end torque to merge onto a highway. I don't care about 0-60, I care about like 25-65 to merge and honestly it's a lot quicker than anyone would expect. It's a much smoother ride than I expected for a 23k price tag, plenty of passing speed with the turbo if I need it, 90mph is too easy to hit and not even notice. Plus I can get nearly 400 miles out of a tank. My biggest complaint after about 6 months of driving the 24 Envista is all the hard touch plastic and some rattles from somewhere that I can't figure out, but I'm not expecting a luxury ride for what i paid, it's just a little annoying. Performance wise it's much better than expected, but then again I'm coming from a 2016 Escape so nearly anything would be an upgrade in performance over that.

Buick Enclaves are quite popular for people with families. Also, China LOVES Buick. Younger people should consider Buicks, they are not for old people anymore. They are nice, comfortable and quiet. They are a little more expensive though, which is likely why they trend older. But, they do make models that are not super expensive. We have an Enclave. We like it a lot.

I just bought a Lincoln mkz hybrid. It’s a 2017 but I’m getting 44mpg on my commute into San Francisco. I got it for 10k and that same budget on a Prius would have been a much older one with far fewer creature comforts. I’m the short time I’ve owned this car I’ve already added a Lincoln hybrid suv to the shortlist of vehicles my wife and I will test drive when we decide to get rid of her Tesla. Lincoln is pretty reliable, and the same can be said for Buick. They depreciate quicker than a similar Toyota and can be a great value on the used market. Have you sat in one? Do you just assume that all ford and gm are horribly unreliable?

They are just upbadged Chevys and fords. (Usually). They develop, build and sell them side by side. The added manufacturing cost isn’t that much. Manufacturers add ~ $2000 worth of tech and maybe ~$1000 in premium features and sell them for $5000 more. (Numbers can be pushed around here and there depending on platform). Why wouldn’t they sell them? Then to get the consumer to buy it you put them side by side with the “base” model and you can use all the standard tricks convince someone to pay the extra. Especially if it’s only $100 more a month. The target age groups aren’t 30 year olds. It’s the 30 year old who bought a explorer in 2012 and has 3 kids worth of damage to it and is now 42 and those kids are little older and says “now that my teenagers won’t ruin it, with the trade in value and with the bump from my last promotion I can make the aviator work. And can you imagine my sister in laws face pulling up to thanks giving in that after the explorer” The market is 40-50 year olds with the disposable incomes.

Lincoln more aligns with the Cadillac brand vs Buick, but agree its brand is much weaker than caddy obviously. I think ford tried very hard with the rebranding and marketing recently with Mathew McConaughey, but it flopped much because the product and marketing just wasn’t very good. I think Buick (having owned 2 recently) fits a different market segment in the us for people looking for softer/more luxurious vehicles vs the standard marques, but the price point now is barely differentiated from the higher end products making it difficult to really justify their existence. Why not just buy the entry level Cadillac if the price of the lease or monthly payment is negligibly different?

Idrk what the future holds but I'm seeing a lot more new Buicks on the road now that the Envista is a thing. Seeing more Encores than I used to as well. It used to just be old Buick sedans from the 2000s. The Envista is competitively priced and Buick tends to do well on the JD Power/Consumer Reports reliability scores. It might not mean much to big ole car enthusiasts but the average person will look at it as a pretty good deal and that might actually save the brand in North America in the long run after it was propped up by China for a long time. There just aren't many relatively inexpensive new cars out there (or just cars in general used included) so the fact that the Envista is a legitimately good value while having mild luxury flair and that will be way more important to people than whether the 3cyl has enough power/if it will last a decade etc. I have no idea about Lincoln. I actually think they're very underrated for luxury but at least where i am whenever someone wants to spend that money they tend to go German.

I'm 45 and, while I don't have the $ for a new Lincoln or Buick (I could probably get an Encore but that would not suit my needs at all...) I think some of their vehicles are pretty appealing. Granted, you have to like SUVs, but I think the Aviator is very desirable, for example. For the next vehicle I buy, which will probably be my typical 3-5 year old example, about the top of my list would be a Buick Regal TourX as I'm primarily a wagon guy but need something bigger than my current Jetta Sportwagen. Also, my first "nice" car (not brand new, but IMO nice), purchased when I was 24 years old, was a Lincoln. 1996 Mark VIII in pearl white. 8 years old at the time but absolutely immaculate one-owner. Chose that over an Audi A4, BMW 323i, and several other things I had looked at. But that was the last coupe they made, discontinued in 1998. I'd argue the last Lincoln sedan that had much appeal for somewhat younger buyers was the LS, and the last year for it was 2005.

Very nice, I've always loved the Mark III. One of the trendsetters of Lincoln style for the next 20 years. I've often thought that if I were to buy another sedan, I'd look for a recent Continental. Same powertrain set up you mentioned, and while I'm sure the MKZ is probably a better performer as it's smaller, those Continentals had some really nice subtle details (like the door handles being part of the chrome accent strip along the sides). Plus amazing interiors, especially in the Black Label trim (midnight blue leather...need I say more...) Probably won't happen any time soon if at all as I currently need the utility of a wagon (or perhaps even SUV) but sometime.

A few interesting things about the "American brands". They certainly have some popularity still. The new Buick Envision is really nice, it's basically the same as the Cadillac XT-5. Interestingly it's made in China and imported into the US. The new Envista is pretty nice looking as well, It's made in South Korea and China and imported into the US The popular Buick Encore is made in South Korea and imported to the US. The Lincoln Nautilus is made in China and imported to the US as well

My wife and I bought a 2017 MKC right before COVID. It was three years old with 25k miles on it. Paid $20,000 out the door. We specifically sought it out due to Lincolns having the worst resale value of any SUV at the time. It has turned out to be the best SUV we’ve ever owned. Quick. Extremely comfortable. Great tech (even at 8 years, it’s still relevant tech including CarPlay.) And aside from oil, brakes, and tires, it has cost us ZERO in repairs. We’d have replaced it by now, but it’s too damn good to get rid of, even with 80,000 miles on it. Lincoln is failing on the marketing front. They make great SUVs.

Not looks but niggling issues that get worse as they get over 100K and to 150k miles. you don't see old ones that look good or just a lot of them older well cared for and I think that turns off a lot of people that know they will keep it for a long time. they buy Lexus or Acura or maybe even one of the Euro brands.

Aviator looks and drives amazing and super loaded with tech. I almost bought one but we went for a Toyota Grand Highlander fully loaded HybridMAX instead. My next car might be a Lincoln. We test drove the Buick Enclave also. We overall liked it but kids said the AC vents in the second row sucked and the engine is under-powered compared to the Lincoln 3.0 twin turbo and the HybridMAX. I loved the idea of the Super Cruise and Blue Cruise though. That would have been awesome for our road trips.

My in-laws had the Navigator, and that thing moved with the twin turbo. The inside was amazing as well. I prefer the Escalade exterior, though. Too bad Caddy doesn't make a comparable twin-turbo V6. The gas mileage on the 6.2 is abysmal, but then again, I suppose when you're paying $100k for a car, gas mileage isn't a huge concern.

Both marques do fairly well in the United States (selling a little over 100k units each annually), and do even better in some other foreign markets. In terms of demographics? Buick sells more than half of their vehicles to women, and have an average purchase age around 55 (though this has come down by about 10 years over the last decade, and is continuing to trend younger). Lincoln has a near even 5-/50 split by sex, and an average age of 60 for buyers... though the later is a bit misleading, as the numbers from 35-65 are all very close; in general age here has been skewing younger over time, and marketing research generally shows their crossover offerings are considered "young" in most surveys.

I'm only 44, but I looked hard at an Aviator a few years back. It was a more luxurious Explorer ST. Still had the 3.0L making 400HP that can be bumped to over 500HP with an intercooler and tune. Ended up buying the ST instead as I liked the racer looks of it a bit more. Coworker of mine is in his 40's as well and drives a modified MKZ with the 3.0L with an intercooler and tune. It moves out and is damn comfortable to ride in. I had a Lincoln Mark 8 when i was younger. Added a supercharger and other mods. Was a rocket on the highway. Lots of guys I know had modified Mark 7 LSC's.

The thing that's mostly keeping Lincoln going is how much overlap there is with their cars and Ford. A lot of them are basically just rebadged Fords with some optional equipment on the Ford being standard on the Lincoln. So you're basically paying extra for a badge at that point.

I’m 69 and will never get one of those “couch on wheels.” Buick has been trying to up their image for years. It is still known as an old people’s car. You might as well bury me if I ever get a Buick. I honestly don’t know how Lincoln is kept afloat. Their vehicles all look like rebadged Fords. A friend of mine had one and the shifter and console were the same as my Ford Edge. None of their exteriors are anywhere near attractive. I can’t imagine that their resale is very good.

Pontiac’s existence in the 2000s was confusing even before it got killed. Most of the models were just rebadged Chevys and didn’t offer anything unique except performance tuned models (which you could also get from a Chevy SS). I think by the end they were trying to market Pontiac as the GM “Jeep”, but that really was a non-starter. Like what was the point of the Montana at all?? Who’s in the market for a minivan and thinks “boy I wish this was tuned for off-roading.” Buick was/is also mostly badge engineering but at least there’s the “luxury” aspect to the models, including better noise dampening and ride quality, besides significant styling differences. Of all the brands that died in the recession purge, Pontiac actually made business sense. (But I will never forgive them for killing Saab.)

Right?? GM had way too many overlapping brands. Saturn could have stayed a great little niche market. They started out with entirely separate models from the rest of the GM family, they got to experiment with no-haggle dealer sales, they were reliable enough that I still see SLs, IONs, and VUEs on the road today. But most of the 2000s Saturns were more and more rebadges, some weren't even plastic. By the time the great purge happened, GM had something like ten US & international brands that all were mostly the same cars with a different logo - including poor Saab.

The Lincoln is a nice upgrade from even the top of the line Ford equivalent. For example from Expedition to Navigator. They are priced as an upgrade, too. Since there’s a premium price, older people are the ones to buy them (older people have more money on the whole) so that’s why you see them driven by oldsters (of which I would put myself now in that group!). As far as looks, people’s tastes change, and the trendy/cool look is not a priority. It needs to just look good, comfortable and function.

I've just always seen Lincoln as upbadged Fords with slightly nicer interiors. The Lincoln apologists are sure out in force on this post though, so who knows, maybe they have some interesting offerings nowadays. I haven't actually been in one since the Blackwood was still around.

The Lincolns look good. The issue is the reliability is still less than Japanese,and the warranties don't match up either. the !luxury and performance is not the euro standard. They will definitely have some audience but it won't grow unless they get lucky and stumble onto a good design. Thats kinda what they and Cadillac did with the escalades and navigator fad in hip hop in early 2000s that helped sales. Since then flat line. Not bigger but probably not much smaller either

I agree on Buick, not sure who buys them. I think they’re ugly, unreliable, and not the cheapest option on the market. Lincoln has two things going for it; their Navigator will always sell as fleet vehicles for taxi service and honestly their new lineup is not bad. I think the Aviator is pretty interesting looking and they drive quite nicely. Prices are a bit high though.

I don't think so, but that's not necessarily a huge deal breaker. There are tons of rhd cars in the US and (at least back in the day) in Japan it was popular for lhd Mercedes to be imported, even though they make rhd and sell in Japan. You can also take a car from UK to EU or vice versa via ferries and the tunnel. The only issues are drive thru and overtaking on a 2 lane Hwy in the country. Other than that, you get used to it if you like the car enough.

We have a 2019 and it's pretty great. Seats are wonderful, tasteful interior, climate and infotainment are great, sound system is good. Space for adults in all three rows. It has the TT v6 from the raptor so it goes plenty quick and sounds nice. The only complaint is the 10 speed doesnt always know what gear to be in and it shifts too soon most of the time. Above 2k rpm it's butter smooth but when it wants to quick shift in traffic or low speed situations it's a bit harsh.

I’m in my mid 40s and I drive a Lincoln Corsair. It is legit nice on the inside with an extremely quiet cabin. It drives smoothly and has pep, has soft seats, and has just the right amount of cabin and cargo space. Used models are cheaper than other luxury vehicles. Maintenance is reasonable since it can be done at a ford dealership. Haven’t had a single issue at 63k miles. Looking forward to trading up for a 2025 at some point. I saw a recent article that said Corsair owners have a high amount of brand loyalty and satisfaction, and I can honestly see why. It’s a great vehicle.

It would be me if they had continued to offer the sedans in the States. If that was the case, I would have purchased a new Regal instead of the Colorado I ended up going with. I love my truck, but after selling my 1994 Roadmaster, the Colorado doesn't scratch that same itch, and I miss my luxury sedan. As a 23 year old, that Roadmaster was my 3rd Buick, and I would have bought another one, but I can't stand small SUVs.

Minimal headaches so far at 100,000 miles, good cargo space, nice interior and amenities, only downside is mileage isn’t competitive against other crossovers. She’ll probably stay in a Buick for the foreseeable future.

As for Lincoln’s, I see SUV’s around but last time I checked out the largest suv, the long wheelbase version only added trunk space and not rear seat legroom. I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned the stealth factor. According to my LEO friends they can’t call in a traffic stop on a Buick, it’s akin to a pilot calling in a UFO sighting. The entire station will harass them nonstop. Don’t know if it’s true, but my wife seems to speed with impunity. I’ve seen her pass an Ohio Trooper at 15 over without even a glance. Or maybe they figure old farts have lawyers and have the free time to show up in court.

Buick has been working to change their brand image for the last 20 or so years. They've been targeting the 25-35 year crowd for a long time. Based on the reviews I've read and what people are saying it's finally stating to work. I've seen a lot more people talking about the Buicks they've just bought (specifically the Envista) in recent years than I have in a long time. So maybe it's working. Lincoln is Ford's luxury brand, their counterpart to Cadillac. The Lincoln Navigator sells reasonably well. I'm not as well versed on the other cars, but they seem to be doing well enough to keep the brand alive.

My father-in-law who is 80+ leases a new Lincoln every 2 years. He usually has 2 leases going for he and my mother-in-law. They have had either 2 Lincoln’s or a Lincoln and a Lexus on lease. I’ve driven both and the Lincoln’s are actually pretty nice vehicles. But I’d prefer the Lexus always. I drive an Acura, which I prefer to the Lexus and the Lincoln. I have a friend who bought a Lincoln SUV last year and he absolutely loves it. He an old guy. He’s 70. I rarely hear of 30 year olds buying Lincoln.

I think as the Boomers age the Lincoln brand will disappear. People with Alzheimer's and Dementia aren't thinking Lincoln. I think the opposite is true for Buick. The brand is highly product from a reliability standpoint. Toyota on the other hand is losing the reliability argument in the last few years and Toyota's thought of as a Japanese company.

I'm now old and they are both on my short list for my next car! 😂 I worked at a Buick, Pontiac, GMC dealership in the 80s and 90s. For a time the Pontiac Grand Prix was a hot seller with limited availability. I suggested to several people that they should look at the Buick Regal Gran Sport instead. In my not so humble opinion the Buick was a nicer car and only slightly more expensive. I was always told that the Buick was an old person's car. They didn't know what they were missing. That might still be the case.
