Does milk & more milk go sour sooner?

I find some days, my milk & more milk starts to taste funky in my tea the day after it is delivered?! Is it just me?

Been having this exact problem OP. Been using there service on and off for probably 10 years, and something has changed, like 100%. Over the past few months milk has been spoiling quicker and more often. I opend a fresh bottle today dated for the 15th(Today). And it smelt awfull and tasted awfull. Not sure what they have done to there milk. But our family is not going to be using there service anymore.

I was experiencing this with the cardboard style cartons they offer, I switched to the plastic bottles and I haven't had the issue so far since!
SpoopyJosh@reddit
We have always used the plastic ones, so it's just odd it's suddenly started happening over the past few months.

I used a similar service and thought it would be delivered early morning but it was literally 11pm the night before. Expensive per pint. If I was running low the cut-off often meant I needed to nip out and get more from a shop anyway. I sacked it off not long after the discount time ended.

My M&M milk has never knowingly gone bad. I have a cool box for it, partly to protect against foxes but also against any rise in temperatures.
skybluepink77@reddit
Milk in glass bottles should last 4-5 days in the fridge; ours does, and we have a milk delivery service; difference is, it's local. They keep the milk properly cold before they deliver.
Your service is obv getting it from the dairy but letting it sit around unrefrigerated. Not worth the hassle, dump them.
It's convenient to have doorstep milk, but your alternatives are freezing cartons from the supermarket, and defrosting in the fridge as needed. Or use longlife Organic milk, I find this tastes as good as fresh.
Conscious-Cut-6007@reddit
I stopped using them because of this. I only use a couple pints a week and was throwing so much away I went back to supermarket milk as hated wasting food.
ForestCl0uds@reddit
I use a local milk person and the milk always makes it to my door, even when we've had heavy snow! The milk is always fresh too. See if there are any local dairies that deliver to you.

For the people reading the OP that are as confused as I was, "Milk & More" is an online milk delivery service.
CheesyLala@reddit
Thanks, I did wonder. Think OP needs to learn a little punctuation and capitalisation.
682goldE@reddit (OP)
I'm very curious where you think a capital letter is missing?
CheesyLala@reddit
Does "Milk & More" milk go sour sooner?
682goldE@reddit (OP)
Okay, that's fair enough. And the punctuation? I'm concerned you were not sure what I was talking about with the in depth knowledge you appear to have of the branding of the company
Devify@reddit
It's the quotation marks. Anyone reading it without knowing the company may read it as "milk and more milk" I did and wondered if your question was if adding fresh milk into an older milk bottle makes it go off faster. By capitalising and putting it in quotation marks it makes it clear that "Milk & More" is the brand of milk you're talking about.
682goldE@reddit (OP)
I can't stop reading it as "milk and more milk" now you have said that!!
CheesyLala@reddit
Inverted commas around Milk & More.
Read the post title as someone who doesn't know what "Milk & More" is and maybe you'll see why it's confusing.

I always go for either Cravendale or stores own filtered milk(morrisons, tesco, sainsburys), these days, lasts well and as soon as it starts smelling like milk, you know it's nearly bad. Unsure about any doorstep delivery, but I would suspect their delivery hasn't be conducted under the 4degrees C a fridge might keep, which could reduce the spoiling time significantly.
Sweaty_Sheepherder27@reddit
Pop s bucket of water out on the step the night before deliveries with a couple of ice packs in it - that'll help keep it cool until you bring it in.
Current-Lynx-3547@reddit
I just get cravendale. That just doesn't go off. It can go weeks without going sour.
Iwantedalbino@reddit
We had issues with them delivering after we left for work. The 7am advertised guarantee isn’t actually a guarantee but we complained and they changed the route (I’m assuming it’s now someone else’s problem).
I haven’t noticed a problem but we know our guy delivers around 6am as we’ve seen and heard the van.
We’ve got two different milk companies - we have Macqueens as well delivering half our milk, for reasons.
Difficult_Egg_4350@reddit
I find this is more a problem when it's warmer, because the milk is delivered to us at something like 3am then is sitting there until we get up at 7, so if it's more than a few degrees outside it obviously warms the milk and it does go off quicker. We got a little cooler box we put out for the milk to go in and it now lasts at least 4 days, by which time we tend to have used it.
The quality of their fruit and veg however. That was awful.
smmky@reddit
I get mine delivered from a relatively local dairy farm and it sits on my doorstep for around 3 hours before it’s taken inside. It usually lasts a couple of days after delivery too so it seems strange yours is going off so quickly
PipBin@reddit
I stopped using Milk and More and went with a local company. Much better.
PinkandTwinkly@reddit
It's probably been sitting on your doorstep and getting a bit warm I stopped using them for that reason
They delivered about 01.30 - 0200 and I'm not a morning person so was on my doorstep far too long.
DameKumquat@reddit
Yeah, I find they too often deliver at 11pm-1am, or 9-11am. The former is OK in winter. They 'aim' to deliver for 7am but won't refund you if the milk appears any time that day. I've cut down my order because I just can't rely on them.
Some neighbours defected to Modern Milkman, but apparently they're no better.
PinkandTwinkly@reddit
Yeah our round was evening one, I'd walk home from work a midnight sometimes and he'd be delivering.
But the latter is as bad especially if you're someone who does a 9-5 as the milk will be on your doorstep all day
682goldE@reddit (OP)
Generally I get it in quite soon after delivery, as others have mentioned I guess it is how long before that it has not been refrigerated as well.
ThePolymath1993@reddit
What's does the "& More" in "Milk & More" include? Milk is pretty great by itself, you don't need to muck about with it.
DameKumquat@reddit
They deliver you milk and more stuff if you order it. If you want to pay double supermarket prices.
682goldE@reddit (OP)
The milk is actually pretty reasonable (if it didn't go sour in my case)
682goldE@reddit (OP)
Cream perhaps? Good cuppa with milk and some cake and cream?
Wondering_Electron@reddit
Not in my experience.
We can still use the milk typically +5 days beyond use by date.
Theratchetnclank@reddit
I had the same issue with the modern milkman and stopped using it because of this. I'd much rather support local businesses but it went bad too quickly i assume because the milk van/float isn't refrigerated and obviously neither is the doorstep it sits on until you bring it in.
I wish they did a filtered milk like cravendale is to help it last longer without spoiling.
tmstms@reddit
I think it is probably supply chain issues in a pretty individual way, and is the same reason that milk from a corner shop can turn quicker than supermarket milk- it's simply how long it happens to sit aruound unrefrigerated. The more individual the supply and delivery, the higher the chance something goes wrong- whereas if it goes from the fridge lorry direct onto cooler shelves in the big supermarket, it stays cold throughout and you have a better chance (assuming you get it home quickly and into your fridge etc) of lasting longer.
mr_rivinem@reddit
Milk & More uses glass bottles mostly, yeah? Sometimes those don't stay as cold if they sit on your doorstep a bit too long, especially in warmer weather or if delivery’s super early. Also, if your fridge's running a little warm or you’re pouring from the bottle into a warm cuppa, it can mess with it faster than you'd think
durkheim98@reddit
No it's been a problem the past 5 years going, off several days before it's Use By date. A lot of it is down to storage and not being allow to cool properly during the production phase. I used to think there was a problem with my fridge but it isn't.
I find Lidl and Aldi are the worst for it.
Rubberfootman@reddit
We stopped using them because of this.
