Dude no games will be 90 dollars, plus, nintendo is just talking about what the ps5 already DOES.
I had to wait ages for RE4 to download WITH A DISC.
People are just bitching at nintendo because they’re increasing prices.
I'm genuinely tired of the misinformation about the install code.
They just put a name to something that was already happening ON the Switch 1. So really it's on the company whether they choose to put their full game on the cartridge or not.
Cyberpunk (64 GB) is fully on the cart!
Bravely Default (11 GB) and Street Fighter 6 (50 GB) will not, blame those companies.
Here's an example of what people are complaining about the Switch 2's games that's already on the Switch 1:
https://preview.redd.it/h12t15v2qcte1.jpeg?width=619&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e176bf248c33ae5bc2f67048cbce537f6f32e0bf
switch 1 was game codes in the box to make it downloadable in your nintendo account, moronic, but understandable
switch 2 is a piece of plastic, why do I need a fake cartridge to download the game? what's the upside to the change???
The problem with Nintendo is that there is nothing really like their first party games. Don't know what it is but I reluctantly paid a ridiculous amount for Mario Kart 8 (second hand physical copy and still close to 40 pounds) and still I find myself grinning like an idiot.
I haven't spent a dime on Nintendo stuff since the wii but, their first party games are top notch (pokemon and 2d Mario aside).
They are the only big company that tries to innovate in their games, yeah most of their games are pretty basic/casual but the gameplay loop is extremely fun, even better if you have someone to play with.
That being said, I would buy more Nintendo stuff if they weren't such a shit company toward their fans, if the online was at least decent and if they weren't so greedy with the prices, full price for a 4 year old game? Sure buddy, but that's not for me.
So not what little big planet did then? I played little big planet 3, it was actually buggy mess that crashed pretty hard on release. Having a level creator mode where you can put a face on a sponge and make it aggressive is a little different than being able to create stuff on the fly like TOTK allowed.
Did you actually play LittleBigPlanet 3? Because you could do these things on the fly on some story mode levels and you were allowed to replicate this freedom of creation on the user generated levels as well.
Yes that wasn't possible on LittleBigPlanet 2, unfortunately 3 was quite rushed and made by a different team, it was quite the buggy mess. They also didn't introduce the same amount of new features, but one of them was giving limited creating tools in play mode on levels.
4 year old game? Mario Kart 8 is a Wii U game... They released 64 sunshine and Galaxy for the switch and you had to pay 60 pounds for 3 games whose newest is old enough to go to university!
Bro stop slurping Nintendo's Japanese nutsack they don't care about you bro 😭
https://preview.redd.it/ihq3thngwate1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=820712764006f9967a8f0d552632511443e1872b
do the graphics really matter that much though, as long as the game is fun? independent of the system you can get absolute banger games that look like ass and games that look beautiful and play like shit. taking playtime and long term enjoyment into account i feel like 80 bucks for a mario kart that can get you hundreds of hours of fun (if you have friends) is still better value for money than buying the newest aaa singleplayer game that gets you 6-10 hours of fun with high end graphics for 50-60 bucks.
The problem is that the new Nintendo games are just carbon copies of the old ones. Yes, the old games were fun, but that doesn't mean it's acceptable to sell the same thing every time for an even bigger price.
> Here's a game with graphics from 4 generations ago with absolutely stellar gameplay for 80$
> Here's a game with modern graphics with absolutely shit gameplay for 80$
Which one do you buy?
That's why Nintendo keeps working so far
Remember this meme, from like a year ago?
https://preview.redd.it/p7xrv16dbdte1.jpeg?width=967&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4550c89e5a7874347bdd3334e26de445498a986c
Remember how you really believed that you really believed it?
To be fair youre paying for a product and nintendo games definitely don't cost nearly as much to make as most other games that would try to seel themselves for such a price
Production cost does not come into the equation when it comes to pricing *if there is no competition*.
The point is Nintendo makes games which the vast majority of people find incredibly fun and there is simply no alternative. If someone made an actual fun casual race game, they would need to reevaluate the pricing.
>Here's that game from 4 generations ago that set the bar that modern games are compared to today. It runs great on old hardware, let alone modern systems, looks fine compared to modern standards because of not only stagnation of competition, but also the development of community-made graphics mods, has a huge amount of community documentation from over the years, and has been refined and polished to maturity by multitudes of developer patches.
“Hey guys we’ve finally caught up with the graphic technology from the year when the first Switch released! Aren’t you excited???”
Me with my handheld PC just waiting knowing Nintendo will have shitty protections in place, and I’ll be emulating the Switch 2 on my vastly more capable system within a year.
Good games so need 60FPS though. Legitimately looks like shit without it if you're used higher frame rates, which anyone who has played other games on PC/other consoles is probably is.
I'm hoping the switch 2 is the first Nintendo console that can consistently support it's games at 60 fps.
Do you think it would receive that rating if released today? Or would it be rated a 5 with people asking why the fuck a game released in 2025 looks like utter trash?
You can't rate old games the same as new games.
Their first party games all look really good for the power of the console, and their first party games are all pretty good. And the increase in power with the 2nd console will really help. Calling their games slop is just cope. The only games I think are bad are the new pokemon games, and their graphics are particularly bad.
The stylization of Nintendo games doesnt revolve around high graphics.
Also calling their games slop is very interesting - when companies like ea, ubisoft etc exist
"Good games don't need good graphics" is a quote meant to support indie games and classics that still hold up gameplay-wise, not AAA games releasing past the 8th generation. Hell, even the Wii U has better graphics than the Switch 2
That's cuz in 2 years they're going "Revolutionize gaming platform and bring you 4k 120Hz OLED gaming experience" for an additional $300. Of course the fanboys are gonna buy it again, giving Nintendo more money to pull these stunts in the future
I mean, from what we’ve seen so far, the Switch 2 display actually looks significantly better than Switch 1 OLED. A good LCD can be good than cheap OLED.
Also, the image is obviously edited.
It’s not that simple
OLED is a big cost adder. For a device that’s expected to be docked to your TV a lot, it’s probably hard to justify. I bet the supply chain on OLED is also very difficult right now
It's not really that, it's more akin to switching to 144hz from 60hz. The difference in quality of life is great. Doesn't make the previous item outright bad, but the new one is objectively better, undebatable.
Same as like, Switching for a clapped out Corolla to a brand new BMW i8. Yeah both drive you from point A to B, but the i8 has every possible bell and whistle out there to make that driving experience more enjoyable.
144hz only matters if you can maintain that frame rate, and is a negligible improvement imo. Driving a new Beemer would be nice, but if you just drive 20 minutes to work each day, is it really worth the investment? Will the brand new iPhone be faster and have a better camera? Yeah but your current phone is probably fine.
Are OLEDs nicer? Of course. Does it matter when you are playing a game? Not really imo. If you are like a color grader in the film industry, sure, get the nicest screen you can. But these things really don’t matter that much.
Games were fun on CRTs, driving is primarily about necessity, my 6 year old phone still works great and taking photos is about creativity not megapixels.
I stand by what I said and my anti-consumerist stance. These are luxury items, even an old/inferior luxury is still a luxury.
450 beans is fine. People crying about OLED, go find a comparable 8 inch OLED tablet screen. OLED Steam Deck is the closest but at 550, only at 90hz and slightly smaller screen size. People will complain regardless if Switch 2 OLED was the base model at 550.
If the console was actually $450, I wouldn’t have that much of a problem with it. The problem is that if you buy the Japanese only version in Japan it only costs $330, but the multilingual version costs $450 (even in Japan). It’s just greed.
Had to google what LCD and the downsides are lmfao how scummy of Nintendo. I honestly stopped respecting Nintendo when they did all that drama about rom hacks, few years later they sue everything that even remotely resembles an animal.
I hope a new ceo or ceo-team (idk how this shit works) will fix Nintendo, but its currently going the same route as ubisoft and EA.
It took you that long to realize nintendo was a scumbag corporation?
I stopped in the 80s when they went after rentals. Then felt very justified in the 90s when they targeted shops that sold used games. Fun fact, Nintendo is such a piece of shit company they still blacklist shops that sell used games in every country they can get away with it in, including Japan.
>they targeted shops that sold used games.
>they still blacklist shops that sell used games in every country they can get away with it in
i know for a fact that Nintendo targeted rental stores in the 80s but I didn't know they also do this. thanks for the info
I don’t think OLED is readily available like LCD is. I think it’s like chips, where you have to plan your capacity years in advance.
Only 2 people make OLED, Samsung and LG. Everyone wants OLED so it’s expensive
Add another $100 to the price for it. If you thought people were complaining a lot now…
LCD is/was often cheaper, and, more importantly for someone like Valve, more available as stock parts, although this is changing. They kind of gambled with the Deck, and wanted to make something that is as cheap as possible while still being good. Since OLED displays don't really offer any quality advantage beyond true blacks (the importance of which varies massively depending on the game, most games don't have many pitch dark scenes), they chose to reduce costs and simplify supply.
Once the Deck took off (and once the suppliers returned to normal operation after COVID) - they pretty much entirely switched to OLED. They don't build new LCD units anymore.
Not true. Due to logic on whitch OLED works, you have realy low latency, while on LED... it varies. But steam deck used IPS, where latency is most of the time good, thats why most gaming displays are using it, instead of VA. But it has downsides, like contrast, and backlight bleed. Colorspace is also a concern, I'm sure steam deck display have 100% SRGB coverage, but I might be wrong. OLED is preffered for HDR, because it's eazier to have wider color coverage than on IPS, with better color accuracy. How important it is on 7 inch display is whole other thing :D
Lower contrast, backlight bleed, difficult-to-implement HDR are all the exact same thing caused by the fact that there's a backlight that limits how dark you can go. I just called it "deeper blacks" because it's the outcome that the user sees.
Limited colorspace is a real thing I didn't mention, but we're talking portable gaming here - all modern games are designed for sRGB (or, more commonly, not colormatched at all), since it would be unreasonable to expect most gamers to have professional-grade monitors with wider colorspace :)
HDR is not limited by how dark the backlight can go. It's limited by the difference in brightness between different areas of the screen. It is limited by the fact that it has a backlight compared to OLED where individual pixels light up independently.
Assuming backlight brightness doesn't change, it's limited by how dark you can go. Everything I said was correct.
Naturally, you cannot just change the backlight brightness, as this affects the entire screen, as you said.
That is one factor, but it's not the most important factor. For HDR, how dark the pixels are doesn't matter in isolation. What matters is how bright one pixel is compared to another one shown on the screen simultaneously. That has nothing to do with how dark or bright the backlight goes, but depends on how you can control the brightness of different areas of the screen, either through local dimming of the backlight or using technologies that don't depend on backlight, like OLED.
I'm sure you know all this. I just wanted to add it to the thread.
Damned Vita, no games and super expensive storage
My one didn't have burn in but somehow borked the camera and the back touchscreen, at this point I should jailbreak it...
Hell, a YouTuber named WULFF DEN has had a [Switch OLED (and now a Steam Deck OLED)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2FpG6M037E&t=597s) displaying a static image for years now, with both still being perfectly playable. And keep in mind, this is the *absolute worst case* scenario. This would never happen under a normal use case, this is literally doing your best to cause burn in.
Availability can be a big one. LCD's are readily available in a wide variety of sizes. OLED, less so. Generally speaking, Nintendo will want to source a good LCD display over charging a display manufacturer with the task of creating a new one that fits the system. Additionally, the display is 120Hz, HDR capable, supports VRR and targets 1080p. While OLEDs exist that do these things, they're primarily in the larger display market, and 1080p is a pretty uncommon resolution as well at that screen size just due to the current manufacturing demands for much higher resolution mobile displays.
People will compare this to Valve's OLED offering, but even then I'm fairly certain they reached out to Samsung Display to supply that, and that was only after they had proven success with the previous model. As it stands, the Switch and Deck are priced quite similarly, and offer pretty comparable hardware just in different ecosystems.
There's lots of reasons to get upset with Nintendo, but I think the display isn't really one of them. I'm not sure what the brightness target of the display is either, but it's a lot easier to make bright LCD panels than it is OLED without decreasing the overall lifespan of the device.
I assume cost and availability of materials. The big difference here is that you can buy a screen and install it yourself. You can basically buy and replace any part of the deck. Or send it in and have someone repair it for you.
My first switch burned out the screen after 3 months and they basically told me tough shit.
Just shy of 2 years with the deck and the battery shit the bed and they replaced the whole unit with an OLED one free of charge.
You could go out and buy a Switch OLED for half the price, even less if used. So they definitely could've put a decent screen in from the start, but that doesn't sell consoles as well as releasing an OLED edition later in the lifecycle.
Fucking sucks Zelda is actually a great series.
I thought my old phone had a decent screen until I've switched to one with an OLED screen. They're not *that* expensive, and I don't see a reason beyond power drain and *Nintendo* why the Switch 2 doesn't get one on launch.
Although to be fair, I've never seen a Switch in person. It might genuinely be fine, and comparison is the killer of joy.
Yeah, this is a company that's able to sell people two copies of the same game with one Pokémon different between them, then a year later sell them another copy that has both those Pokémon in the same game together.
They're not worried about their fanbase getting mad over an extra $20.
One of the things I wish to see in my life is a Pokemon game underperforming (financially, because yeah...) enough for GameFreak to start trying again.
Yup as long as people stop guzzing up all the slop, this shit will continue. Vote with your wallets people! Even if you can afford it (which many truly cannot anymore) that’s the only way to send a message.
Pokemon is a bit unique in that regard because the whole company is largely depending on the games. The games is where the Pokemon get made, and from there they can have anime and merch made.
They'd doom themselves if they stopped making games entirely.
I grew up loving Pokémon on Gameboy and even back then I didn’t understand why everyone was okay with that horse shit. Imagine if every year, EA released two versions of 2K for full price, and each one was missing the Lakers and the other was missing the Heat. If you wanted both, you had to buy both, or buy an accessory that lets you trade with a friend. People would rightfully lose their fucking minds, and yet they lined up to buy the next Pokémon game(s).
You forget their audience is weebs, autists (sorry for the stutter), japanese, and children.
This demographic of the mentally lacking will buy endless brand slop as long as it has their favourite cartoon character.
New steam deck is $550 and comes with an 1280x800 OLED
Nintendo games are really the selling point for the switch. You can’t play Mario kart or Mario party on the steam deck. At least legitimately, that is
You can't get VRR without being much more expensive OLEDs and might still get flickering issues. I'd love to see another console at similar price with 120hz, HDR and VRR.
Yeah, I think people are overreacting. LCD screens can look great as well assuming they're properly calibrated. Of the announcements in that direct, the only one kind of upset about is that Welcome Tour isn't free; that should've came pre installed on the console or at the very least be a free download.
Pure business play. People will buy regardless with LCD. Then OLED upgrade later on will also sell well bc the screen quality difference will be noticeable.
Mostly pricing video games like Mario Kart World at $80 (for the digital, $90 on physical).
Nintendo famously sold their first-party games at $60 and absolutely refused to discount them later like other studies do. Then they made Tears of the Kingdom $70, which was a major release and exceptional case, it was logically thought this wouldn't apply to most games.
Now Nintendo jumped straight from $60 to $80-$90. Combined with Nintendo's other recent practices, e can also deduce they will not drop the price and games will still cost that much in several years' time.
It's a considerable jump in price, and it's also making Switch 2 games unaffordable for many people who could previously afford Nintendo games.
No, I am fully understanding against the price of games. I just don't get why people are so upset about the console. The 90 dollars tag is absolute batshit crazy, but what does the console itself have to do with it, based on whatever this post is trying to say. From what I read, its the LCD screen, but yeah, bs reason
The console is also more expensive and at 450 you still don't have a single game to play + online is paid too.
Don't get me wrong it's pretty much industry standard at this point, but it still sucks, and once people latch on to one issue (game prices) they have a very low bar for attacking everything else too.
The console is expensive for what it is -- you can get a PS5 for the same price. The games are absurdly expensive. An OLED screen would just be nice to have for the price that people pay for the thing. It's 2025, they're not super expensive to manufacture and LCDs are starting to become outdated.
I wish more people would understand that, Sony makes its money due to the shop fee and selling exclusives not with console sales. Although i find the new game prices from nintendo disgusting i think the console price is pretty fair, at least where i live
True, I haven’t gamed in a while so the PS5 seemed like the logical console to compare it to. Now that I think about it, the pricing is not too bad. Games, on the other hand, are terribly priced and I hope they don’t set a trend of becoming more expensive.
Okay, and? The PS5 is almost 5 years old now and the 500 dollar tag is with a game bundle (plus the fact that the console's power seems to be about stronger than PS4 pro, at least it seems like it, at minimum its stronger than PS4 and steam deck and for a handheld that has the same width from its predecessor, thats INSANE), the LCD screen still looks great regardless, I honestly do not understand the obsession behind OLED (yes, I admit it looks great but the screen is hella massive and looks gorgeous still, has HDR, and it affects battery life much less), etc. You have 1 console that has so many features, all those things I could ask for, a simple, much better Switch with much more power, comfortable controllers, great visuals, yet people are screaming because "MUH OLED!!", mfs will never be happy and honestly if it DID have OLED the price would most likely be higher and people would complain about its price and another detail to nitpick about. Only thing I do agree however is that the game pricing sucks
The screen isn't necessarily bad, it's just that an OLED would be so much better. Especially for people who have OLED phones, monitors, and TVs. Is it a need -- no, but it would be great to have especially when you're paying so much. However you do make a good point that it would be more expensive, people are already complaining about price.
Honestly I've seen 2 types of people, those who really care about screen quality and OLED is the standard for them (this includes me), and people who just don't care as long as the screen looks good. Can't hate on anyone for being in either camp, but that's pretty much why people are upset.
I disagree that the console price is too high, for those that complain. Only the game prices are something to boycott to purchase. I was expecting 400-450, but 470 is honestly a nice sweet spot after the hardware turned out to be WAY stronger than I expected. I mean, 4k? On a Nintendo console? Shut up LOL wow I think to myself. I will order the bundle (which means I get Mario kart for only 30-40 extra) and after that I will refuse to buy any full price games, I will merely play Mario Kart, the enhanced free patches and the free patches that come with NSO, such as BOTW.
Because they raised game prices for no reason which opens the gates for everyone to be doing it, and because their shitty console isn’t worth ps5 money.
Reddit’s 4chan subs are largely filled with children that are having an existential crisis over the realisation that their parents probably don’t love them enough to swing a $450 console their way.
Because Nintendo made enough bad choices that people will exaggerate everything and spread misinformation just to get extra hate towards Nintendo.
I’m not saying $80 games are okay, but so much of the shit being spewed is blatant misinformation and misrepresentation. The OLED Steam Deck is $600 and doesn’t include the $90 dock. The PS5 and Xbox don’t come with an OLED screen, but just like Switch 2 and PC, are capable of using a tv/monitor that is OLED.
$450 for a handheld/console hybrid capable of 120fps and 4K dock output is not bad. Yes it would be better if it was OLED but then you’d be bitching about the price even more.
A misinformation that pisses me off in particular are those illiterate mfs that think that all games are not in cartridges anymore. It really cannot get any stupider than this. Actual blindness by hatred
And to an extent it is valid. But yeah this thread is pretty bad. The only reason I hate them doing an LCD screen is cause the moment I saw that I was certain that they'll be releasing an OLED version to double dip into fools pockets. They should've had a variant at launch imo. That and the game prices.
Regardless of what anybody says, while I'm sure that the Switch 2 looks good, and I'm aware it has a higher pixel density, if the OLED switch can have an OLED screen and cost $100 less at launch then I'm not understanding why the Switch 2 can't either.
The point here isn't that the Switch 2 is awful or bad, or LCDs are always crap, it's that at $450 you should expect more for your money, and not defend what is evidently pretty scummy gouging behaviour, Nintendo fan or not.
As Nintendo has recently pulled preorders from the US In response to tariffs, this isn't the answer. Also the $450 price is comparable to here in the UK so.
The idea is that they knew tariffs were coming so they baked that into the price initially so they didn't have to raise it later. The problem is that part of their strategy was to move some production out of China (where everyone would expect tariffs to hit) and into Vietnam, which they have already been doing for years. With Vietnam *also* getting slapped with tariffs, that really fucked them.
Not trying to "defend" Nintendo, just another explanation I've heard
The Switch 2 has higher ram, a bigger screen, more storage, higher resolution, seemingly more complex technology with the joycons, and is being released after an era of high inflation. I don’t think it should be all that surprising that it costs more than an OLED Switch.
No no, I'm not saying it shouldn't cost more than an OLED switch. I think $450 is fine. I'm saying I don't agree that they needed to downgrade the display to achieve those upgrades. $100 extra per unit for more RAM, a better CPU and GPU, and upgrading the joycons is enough when manufacturing at scale.
The joycons dropped their IR sensor for the mouse and added some magnets and a button. That isn't complex technology. And upgrading the components isn't that much either. I'm sorry but $100 should've been more than enough, when the original $350 covered everything else.
Like everyone else in this thread, you haven't even seen the display in person.
Right now we have press reports and they're very positive about the display.
As I've mentioned in other comments here, I have no doubt the display looks good. LCD can be fine, and I've watched plenty of streamers who have had a go and say the display IS good. That's not my point whatsoever.
My point is, there is not a single justification you can give me that Nintendo has, to drop the OLED screen.
The only reason they did it was to release a fancy OLED model later, and everyone who says otherwise is simply in denial.
My point is, the LCD is good, be we could've had better. And at $450 I would expect better.
Well yeah of course. An LCD switch 1 was fine, it was more of a focus on getting a viable portable console working. But now we have an OLED to compare against. Releasing an OLED variant of the switch 1 was an upgrade for those who wanted it. Releasing an OLED variant of the switch 2 after downgrading it from what we had is a cash grab.
but you don't know that. you have ZERO clue how much profit Nintendo is making, how much their unit cost is, the profit differential between the Switch 1 and 2, etc.
FYI the Switch 1's MSRP adjusted for inflation is ~$400. So it's really just a $50 real price increase.
As I pointed out in my original comment with an edit, Nintendo has managed to like with almost every console generation, upgrade the performance and add additional features when moving from the GameCube to the Wii, also accounting for inflation, for as little as under $25 price increase per unit.
We can use historical data to have a pretty good guess what their margins are, even without exact figures. The original switch unit price was resrsched to be close to $257. It sold for $299, meaning a profit of $42 or 14.05%.
https://venturebeat.com/games/teardown-reveals-nintendo-switch-costs-257-to-build/
The OLED switch apparently only had $10 of upgrades yet sold for $350, an additional profit of $40, or a margin 23.71%.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2021/07/15/the-nintendo-switch-oled-estimated-to-cost-only-10-more-per-unit-to-make/
Again, inflation does not justify the price. For $10 for the original OLED, they would've been able to add it in, even for double this cost and still profited.
Stop defending, the giant company.
The Switch 1 might have an OLED screen but to be fair, it doesn't have an RTX capable gpu. It costing more and have one thing that's worse about it is understandable imo.
I'm sorry but I disagree. What other consoles do you know of where some main components improve but others get worse?
$100 is a perfectly acceptable amount of money to be able to upgrade the CPU, GPU and battery without sacrificing the OLED screen at large manufacturing scales. Remember everything else is already present.

I really do not give a fuck
If the games are good it doesnt matter, anyone who thinks Nintendo games are bad cause the graphics arent high end gotta take a look in the mirror, take off the rainbow wig and wash off the clown mask
Yeah but it's still the same issue that those people can't articulate properly :
Nintendo games are good $20 games, but they're absolutely horrible $70 games.
Simple as that.
Game devs across the globe are treated like shit often
The image is what things should be like - FE complaining that the game/console doesnt have the most modern resolution is a shit take made by mouth breathing clowns & ignores around 80% of what games are about
Probably the same with all of japan working terrible hours. Funny somebody's getting mad about ethnic work. "Nintendos good to their employees, games must suck." Na, bro just different games for different people.
I'm not buying it, but if I were, I would play it docked 99% of the time
I don't think I've removed my switch more than once or twice from the dock in the last 5 years
Lmao what expensive OLED?
Fucking budget phones under 400€ come with too quality OLED, AMOLED and even super fucking AMOLED screens, bigger batteries, more ram and higher storage.
Who told you OLED screens for mobile devices are expensive? Do you just listen to everything daddy Nintendo says?
Yeah but when the new product has a worse screen than the old product, is running games that arguably look the same and run only marginally better for a higher cost then you deserve to lose consumers. Too bad Nintendo has some of the most brainless consumers so it probably won't matter to them, but I guarantee if this happened in a market with less slop-consuming individuals it wouldn't fly as easily.
Yeah but the point is it's not too expensive that Nintendo couldn't include an OLED and still sell the switch for cheap with profit margin.
The point is that Nintendo knows that they can charge top dollar while installing the absolute cheapest components they can find, and people will still goble it up. That 1-2% profit margin increase is REALLY important to Nintendo.
My partner, who fixes this kind of shit for her job, told me the LCD is assuredly cheaper but the main reason why is so they can come out with Switch 2 V2 eventually with an OLED and sell it to you again. They need things to upgrade to justify selling you a new one.
I think the main consideration being left out here is that Nintendo is producing a bunch of new consoles that will be ready for release, and according to rumors they have like 3x more Switch 2s available for release than Switch 1, to avoid scalping issues and meet demand. LCDs are probably easier to source and secure for that amount of units for cheap.
And that's still all a cost they are taking on themselves until the units have been sold.
Exactly. Got my S20 for like $200 CAD with an AMOLED. Hell, you could spend about $50 more than it's MSRP and get an OLED steam deck. Enough fanaggling then you'll just have yourself a better switch
But no!! It's so expensive and they she to cut costs on their 500$ kiddy device!!
It's corner cutting but in this context the corner is the entire quality of the display
Quick Google search says a 7" to 8" OLED is likely around 15-20 USD at manufacturing prices... Ouch
I'd be more than willing to pay, what, 10 dollars more? For an OLED
3-5% more for a much superior display? Yeah lol
Nintendo fans are out here throwing and preordering 75$ at accessories that correct the grip on the joysticks (something that the consumer shouldn't even need to pay for) because they're too small. 20usd is nothing for a much better display on a sub 500$ device
There's probably a reason why all the hand-held consoles are using lcd. Switch, steamdeck, lenovo, Asus. All use LCD. Weird that only now that the switch 2 has it, I'm seeing so many complaints about it.
Steamdeck LCD is the entry level. Most sold are oled.
Games are a fraction of the price (can even be pirated).
SD is awesome from the only company in gaming that doesn't openly hate their customers
The entry level steam deck is the same price as switch 2. So the lcd screen is not a problem I guess.
I'm not here to defend the game prices. I just like calling out hypocrisy and terrible arguments.
And has a decent x86_64 CPU with 16GB DDR5 RAM + 512GB NVME SSD with no restrictions on usage (you can use it as a web server, for machine learning, for professional photo and video edition or pretty much anything you can use a normal desktop for). Idk if the screen is at fault. Also, it's $550, not $600. If you are gonna mention the $90 dock, you might as well say the actual price.
Think of it as a $550 more portable laptop.
Their point isn't that the two would cost the same. It's that an OLED screen is not a super high end thing, and should be the norm in 2025 for a new game console. Especially for one at this price point. Doubly so for games that cost this much.
The OLED switch at launch was $350 if I recall. The Switch 2 is $450. So why can't it have an OLED screen?
Because the Switch 2 is one of the most high end portable gaming devices on the market that performs at the level of a PS4 Pro, that’s insane for the price point. The Steam Deck is a generation behind and costs more. And the OLED Steam Deck costs $100 more. So basically, the whole sub needs to learn how to use Google.
I don't know where you've seen that the switch 2 is better than the Steam Deck, and even weirder how you can say "the switch 2 is on par with a PS4 so it's better than the SD" when a SD destroys the PS4. it's like saying you're faster than my grandma so you could beat Usain Bolt
I have a Steam Deck, it can only run about half of Switch 1 games and it does so at a worse frame rate due to emulation constraints. And it can run 0 Switch 2 games. You have no idea what you’re talking about.
*And [SD] can run 0 Switch 2 games.*
No shit Sherlock, how could the steam deck run any games that aren't released yet you absolute dimwit
I swear you Nintendo cock suckers will make up the most stupid thing to ride Furukawa joycon smh
The switch was always good for playing switch games, it's why I own one. Playing switch games on a switch is obviously better. But the switch 1 is still famously underpowered. There's plenty of games that weren't specifically designed for the switch that run better on Steam deck.
I don't agree with the previous commenters point that you can just run switch games on a steam deck because it would obviously be worse, but the steam deck is still a better investment over a switch 2 unless the price comes down.
Now you're just making shit up. Use Google yourself. We don't actually know yet what the processing power of the Switch 2 is. Why? Because Nintendo won't tell us. But so far the current rumours speak to something like 1.1GHz handheld and 0.99GHz docked with 8 cores. The PS4 Pro being a stationary console means it's just gonna be more powerful regardless, but to compare it uses an 8-core CPU at 1.6GHz and a 4.2 TFLOP GPU. Most sources say the Switch 2 can manage about 90% the PS4 Pros power.
https://www.xda-developers.com/not-only-nvidia-nintendo-switch-2-processor-leaks-massive-upgrade/
The Steam deck uses a 4 core 2.4-3.5GHz CPU, so it's comparable, saying it's a generation behind is disingenuous, it was released ages ago. Yet it still competes with the Switch 2 easily.
The OLED Steam dock does cost $100 more. But the games cost anywhere between 50%-90% less. So that $100 you spend on the OLED Steam deck is recouped pretty damn fast when for that I could arguably get 3-5 good games for that much on Steam, but only 1.25 Switch 2 ones.
Look I'm a huge Nintendo fanboy. I have 3 GameCubes, 3 Wiis, a Wii U and an OLED switch. I don't even own a Steam deck. Not yet. But why are you defending what is shitty pricing? And it is, that's why they didn't put it in the direct itself, they know it.
Don't forget that most people don't even have to pay anything more than the Steam Deck to play any games, most people buying it already have a full steam library, plus you can easily emulate whatever you want
Also valid. Having the freedom to do what I want, and I can also mod and use the workshop? It's a no brainer. I love switch games, but there has to be something to make a switch reasonable to me.
The switch wasn't too expensive and I liked used it on the go, and using my PC at home. Now I'm just gonna get a steam deck because the cost benefit has disappeared.
on paper, that Mediatek SoC are faster, sure. but it still lacks video games developers making games for it, meaning what you're saying are irrelevant as you couldn't make an actual, objective performance comparison between a POCO X7 Pro and Nintendo Switch 2, nope.
that said, yeah $450 should gives you an OLED screen, though.
Oh you don’t, I should have clarified that the docking experience with the steamdeck is super clunky compared to the switch, which just works. Anytime I have to use a mouse cursor to manipulate a launcher it becomes a pain in the ass to push the Xbox button down + use the controll stick to half ass a mouse. Add to that, I have to manually set docked resolutions in games on a per game basis, it can just be a hassle. All that said, I still love my deck, by far the best tech purchase I’ve made in my life.
I'm glad you still enjoy it. I still think it beats out Switch 2 from what I've seen.
It's funny people are still upvoting you more than me. I am guessing some Nintendo fan boys just read the part where you complain and ignore the part where you said it's the best tech you've ever bought haha.
Nice talking to you
on a real note, the picture is from the Nintendo event and youtubers have said that the home button on the joycons was disabled. So there's no way to load up that yt video
Ngl gamers don’t deserve to live at this point. Who the fuck cares? You morons sitting here jerking it fr over some shit game looking 3% better? Gamers would buy a picture shit out of my ass, no matter what screen, and half would defend it, half would make it their entire personality to complain about online for the next year. Buy good games you enjoy, stop making the rest of us read about how your stupid ass bought slop again, or stop playing fucking video games.
Tl;dr OH NO OKJRJED??? BETTER FUCKING KILL MYSELF
Reddit ain't showing your reply, but who is the consoomer here
You are the person buying whatever garbage companies are feeding you, like LCD in 2025 lol
I could give a fuck what screen it’s on you filthy consoomer, I’m here to game on whatever display is available
Spend your time energy and money on stupid new Knick knacks and bullshit tho I won’t stop you
i dont understand the nintendo crowd, why are people hyped about childish games like mario kart and kirby, i mean yeah they are fun especially with people but theyre not flagship launch title material, yet they keep buying them, and now for 80 dollars...
I’m always in a weird position with these types of posts cause I don’t care about graphics that much and it being able to run Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, and Mario Kart is good enough for me, but the prices are so outrageous and I hate Nintendo as a company so much that I don’t want to defend them
Switch emulators don't even run well on the steam deck, so no way a switch 2 emulator will. Plus it could be years for a working emulator at all, just like the Switch.
Nah they did wonders with the switch emulators, some lighter stuff even runs on phones lol. Also 600$ for a new bing bing wahoo its such a scam, not to mention the whole conteoversy of upgrades and price tags lol. Pirated stay winning
The only reason I am thinking of buying the first release of switch 2 is that this is the version most likely to be hacked first. I will just buy it keep it offline until a hack comes out
Hacking the Switch 1 was so weird because it was like:
It has to be first release AND you couldn't have updated it at all basically.
Hacking an OLED just feels like a waste of $350 if you fuck it up because of how easy it is to brick THAT.
Considering the possibility of burn-in inherent to OLED, I'd much rather use an LCD panel for usecases in which static content is frequently displayed, like gaming.
Ugh. I lowkey wish Nintendo would just go out of business. Their games are just reskinned games from the 90s and they're charging 80$ for them? Wtf? Why would I pay 80 fucking dollars for a Mario Cart that's only slightly different than the last one.
Why would people buy this console, don't they know how to give up?
I haven't bought a Pokémon game in 10 years since Sun and Moon because they haven't made any real progress. If I can, why can't you?
It's smart. A lot of people want the games (DK, upgraded graphics switch 1 -> 2 games) immediately so they'll adopt it early and then when the OLED refresh comes out, they'll buy it then too. Especially if the rumored feature of being able to use a switch one or an additional switch 2 as a Wii u style gamepad
PC gamers think a game is more fun because the black is super black and the screen has a lot of tiny pixels.
Children give absolutely no fucks about the stupid adult details. You are all squidwards jealous of Spongebob and Patrick having all the fun.
Gamers are not having more fun because of OLED, it's just industry standard, it's honestly embarrassing that Nintendo can't upgrade old hardware for something remotely modern. And it's also a money grabbing move, in 1-2 years they will release an OLED Switch 2 mark my words
Nintendo is not concerned about graphical fidelity, they focus on gameplay and atmosphere. Hate Nintendo for being greedy but stop reaching. Most of you would praise every aspect of that console if it wasn't for the high price of the games
I don't care about the console being that expensive given that it's still cheaper than the other 2 major consoles on the market, but $80 for a game is obnoxious.
Damn, makes my emulator look good. On my piece of shit laptop. Where I can get games for free. That cost 100 euro. I think I'll pass.
Fuck you Nintendo, you mongoloids
I'm honestly worried other platforms are going to adopt this stance, I'm already sweating about games I want costing $70. I can't afford shit bumping up to fucking $90
Ignoring the screen itself how good would the console actually be? There have been internal leaks yeah?
Sincerely doubt the 2160P will actually be anything worth mentioning or 120FPS will be extremely rare but what would this compare to with past consoles?
I honestly don't know how anyone can enjoy modern Pokemon games. They're actual trash. They run like trash, they have tons of bugs, the pokemon are souless trash, and the story is trash. It's like they don't give a shit about anything except raking in money from people like you. Because it's easy. Because you'll continue to throw money at trash.
Wow another nintendo rent post, I've never seen that before (seriously I know nintendo is a greedy company but It's a bit tiresome seeing these types of posts every day)
