Anyone else awake because of a loud lightning strike?

Try not to roast me - I’ve lived here for over 30 years so storms aren’t new to me, but my heart is still racing… I opened my eyes when I heard the storm coming and then there was a lightning strike so loud that it jolted me completely awake and now I can’t fall back asleep. I’m over by carpenter park and wonder if it struck something super close because my entire room flashed white and it was so loud I honestly thought for a split second that it might have struck my house and I died. Well now I’m awake… Who else? Anyone know what it struck? Maybe one of those giant power lines or the flag pole by the rec?

No. Never. Except if I'm still up.

Yep, my golden retriever freaked out, climbed in our bed with me which he never does.

Woke me up, but looked over and my dog was comfortably sound asleep still. Go figure.

If I can post it I'll share three different views of what happened at our house in December

So cool! Glad nothing caught fire!

Yes, one woke me up followed by a loud rushing of wind. I heard tornados sound like a freight train, and in my drowsy state thought it was happening. I reached over and punched my wife in the butt, yelled tornado and ran to get the kids, only to realize it was nothing before I left my room. I felt a bit silly. Lived here for 13 years.

I’m in Celina and we think lightning literally struck our house or the street behind our house. It was like a firebomb lit us up and the loudest boom I’ve ever heard. We saw sparks. Can’t be the power is still on. I was up getting a drink (dogs were keeping us up bc of the thunder) and I screamed out. Almost went up to the attic to make sure the house wasn’t on fire. I’m still rattled.

Glad you’re okay!

Thank you! So strange everyone experienced a similar thing around the same time despite being far away from each other.

I was thinking the same thing! Could it be a sign????

Slept through the night like a baby

There was one in Richardson in 2013 that made my dogs forever bark at every storm after it.

It’s judgment day. Jk, it’s just a bad thunderstorm.

Legacy and Coit. Yeah, morning everyone. Been up since 4. Wife grunted, rolled back over and was dead to the world in 30 seconds. What a life.
Luckyjuly777@reddit (OP)
Lol I’m at legacy and coit too right by the park. Your wife sounds like my husband
wha2les@reddit
I slept through it all... But I guess I could sleep through fire alarms so... Not good!

Legacy and Independence. I thought it hit right by my house, too. Scary.
cassadia420@reddit
There were 2 that scared the crap out of me. The second one was the loudest and brightest I've ever seen about 5:15. Sounded like a bomb right outside. I'm on K and Park. About jumped outta bed, thankfully the dog was chill and the kiddo was still asleep.
Lurcher99@reddit
Sounded like someone was dragging my trash bins through my bedroom. That was an impressive storm.

East Plano and it woke me up from a DEEP sleep. I legit felt my body lift off the bed. It felt like I was about to have a heart attack. It honestly sounded like it hit right outside my window.
Maleficent-Smile-505@reddit
Woke up too. Even with my white noise machine on. Usually I sleep through it but not this time.
Separate_Shoe_6916@reddit
I’m still up from the storm too. The thunder claps were really loud and tons of lightning flashes that seem like they lit up my room too, even with the blinds fully closed. I’m two blocks up from you on Custer between Legacy and Spring Creek.
MisunderstoodPenguin@reddit
crazy thunder clap right at 4 am, sounded like someone slammed an old school metal trashcan lid with a sledgehammer right outside my window.
ashleighagate@reddit
That one woke me up. Right at 4:00 I actually screamed out of my sleep. Never happened to me before. Kids slept right through it, of course
Luckyjuly777@reddit (OP)
I think that might have been the one. Freaked me out!

I was just waiting for the sirens to go off and surprised they didn't. Seems like that happens everytime there is a thunderstorm nowadays.
wgardenhire@reddit
Thunderstorms are so relaxing and I sleep very soundly. I have slept through a tornado and my wife is the same way. The only thing better is the sound of rain on a metal roof.
biturbo2025@reddit
Same. Woke up around 4:00am to severe lightening and thunder and haven’t been able to fall back asleep. Have a long and busy day ahead. Sucks but oh well
Luckyjuly777@reddit (OP)
Same — I feel ya
SEVENTHREESORCERY@reddit
I know in Richardson we're in a flash flood warning.
shagwell8@reddit
lol it woke me up and now I can’t sleep either
jungthinkr@reddit
I’m here too

I might as well stay awake…
