Dive bars in Plano

Any good Dive Bars in Plano?? That play good music. Not nightclub ish but somewhere I could go for a good cheap drink with good background music..maybe bar food.
JayWo60@reddit
Plano has no dive bars, they have restaurants that sell booze. The closest dive bar that I know of is The Forum Bar in Richardson. It's on Coit, upstairs at the Promenade center
Meli_mel63@reddit
Well, they did try to ruin the food part and did a good job of it at PST. Owner only seems understands dive so it’s gotten trashier over the years. They even lost their restaurant status due to low food sales and had to convert to club status. All this comes from initially being a dry town.

Food isn't what it used to be. When it first opened as The Franchise and Earl was head chef, it was a good concept. Everything cooked fresh, the kitchen didn't even have a microwave and some good menu selections. Now it's just your old, regular bar food. That said, I did have the fish & chips the other week, pretty tasty, good portions and one of the best prices around. That is my goto for fish and chips right now.
Meli_mel63@reddit
It was surprisingly good food. They made nearly everything in house, even their own salad dressings. Earl continued to come in for a while, but haven’t seen him in ages. To me, the food is worse than most bar food now. And pricey! I just go in to see my buddies.
nelgin@reddit
Earl is hanging out with the stars these days. No time for us lowlifes :) Good for him too. I know he's passionate about cooking and being the best at what he does.
Texas_Mike_CowboyFan@reddit
That place is nasty.
Meli_mel63@reddit
Plano Sport Tavern. Previously The Franchise.
nelgin@reddit
Is that more dive that 777 Club in Richardson?
LYEAH@reddit
Not sure why people downvote this, it's true, sports bars are not dive bars... Pubs are the closest thing in Plano.
Realistic-Pay-6931@reddit
Agree! (And yes, not sure why it got downvoted). Maybe everyone else has a different definition of a dive bar, but Plano doesn't have one that I am aware of. East Richardson used to.
TwerkForJesus420@reddit
Rip Rugby House, i miss you.
But Filmore Pub or Holy Grail is the answer
mbrace256@reddit
Why am I just now seeing this??? My husband has failed me. RIP Rugby!
Felsk@reddit
$50 minimum check at holy grail.
nelgin@reddit
Bring your thermals if you're going to Holy Grail.

Down town Plano.
There are a few strip mall dive bars but those are more for the neighborhoods that don't care about atmosphere.
MavSker@reddit
Austin Avenue (sports bar), Fillmore Pub (Irish pub), Parkway Tavern (divey spot in West Plano with karaoke)
thepirho@reddit
Why not Vickery Park across from Fillmore? Good beer and spirits, really love the brisket sandwich
majiktodo@reddit
+2 for vickery park. And they have shuffleboard and couches in the back.
Csharp27@reddit
Parkwayyyy, used to go there all the time after waiting tables, big service industry spot. Divey but fun, karaoke on fridays, pool tables, nice little patio, cheap drinks, some bumps in the bathroom, lots of good memories haha. Good dive bar/local spot.
Texas_Mike_CowboyFan@reddit
What used to be there? Was it the beignet place? (French donut from New Orleans, I probably spelled wrong)
dPaul21@reddit
+1 for Fillmore Pub
exwijw@reddit
But cheap drink does not describe the Fillmore
Article241@reddit
Holy Grail
yarmulke@reddit
Cheap and holy grail don’t go together. Plus the only good thing on their food menu are the goat cheese balls
BoredTX_SD@reddit
It’s my understanding that an alcohol only bar cannot exist in Plano. They must be a restaurant that also sells alcohol. That’s why there are no true dive bars in Plano. Allen and Richardson there are several that have been mentioned. Also in Richardson, which I believe is the diveyest (?) is 777. So nasty inside with tons of cigarette smoke. People openly smoking weed in there because you can’t smell it over the cig and cigar smoke.
nelgin@reddit
That is probably the best description I've seen and nails it. They do have a buffet some evenings, not sure if it's just certain ones or every evening. Like a taco bar? Never been early enough to try it. Not far away is Drinks Saloon, lots of dart boards, minimal food offerings but always have a good time and non-smoking.
bobster36@reddit
End Zone is now Tailgaters. Very recent model this year. Might be a bit too nice and new for “Dive” status. I’d vote Lantern, Plano Sports Tavern (formerly Franchise), Parkway Tavern and maybe McNeals in DT Plano.
rtgurley@reddit
Wasn’t it a Jake’s Hamburgers for a while? And Slider and Blues long before that?
nelgin@reddit
Slider and Blues > Endzone > Jake's Gameday > Whatever it is now, and it's not that good.
Texas_Mike_CowboyFan@reddit
Can confirm it was previously Jake's, but before that I don't know.
scooteristi@reddit
Plano Sports Tavern at Parker @ Custer.
sleepyLynt@reddit
2nd this place. Not my typical scene but I live near here and once in a while I go. Never spent more than 40 dollars here and you can hear a Steve Earl or Skynyrd song from the band that’s playing.
Texas_Mike_CowboyFan@reddit
Owner is a hard core Trumper. Just FYI.
sleepyLynt@reddit
Ewww. Good to know.
nelgin@reddit
Some turd downvoted you, I got your back!
nelgin@reddit
They only have live music one night a week now, otherwise karaoke to make your ears bleed. Bands are hit and miss depending what you like.

Lantern St Grill feels pretty “divey” to me.
Texas_Mike_CowboyFan@reddit
That place is nasty
Dragooncancer@reddit
Yeah, aren’t dive bars supposed to be gross kinda?
skeets246@reddit
Bethany Tavern in allen or not sure if it's still open but end zone
PublicConclusion5859@reddit
Bethany Tavern feels like a true dive bar, u can still smoke cigarettes in there
Altoid27@reddit
Holy Grail. You’ll get to hear alternative staples from the 90s (Nirvana, Sublime), but then you’ll be there some nights and all of a sudden it’s a punk revival (Adolescents, Dog Company, etc.) Unless you go on Tuesday night when it’s Music Bingo and you may end up with 45 minutes of Female Country followed by 45 minutes of Hair Metal, or something. (Both of those genres are fine but not really emblematic of a typical Holy Grail visit.)
Get there before 6:00 and you’ve got a pretty damn good selection of “bar snacks”/appetizers for $5 and drafts for $6, I believe.
SharkSheppard@reddit
Do they still do the ghost pepper chili? If so, it's really good but it is also actually hot. I love super hot stuff so it was fine but heed the warning they give if you aren't used to spicy stuff.
hobk1ard@reddit
They have what!? How is the first I am hearing of this? Thank you for sharing, I love finding the rare actually spicy food on menus.
If you like Ramen, check out Nishiki ramen at Legacy and 75. Best ramen I have found in the area and their death sauce is legit.
SharkSheppard@reddit
I do love Ramen and I'll add it to my list. Thanks for the suggestion.
Yeah it's super rare to find actually hot things when going out. As long as they haven't changed it, it definitely had some actual heat to it. Sinuses were cleared but in a good way.
Altoid27@reddit
They do! And you’re right - that’s one tasty dish but whoa, will it challenge you.
(What I’ve done in the past is ask for either a side of fresh jalapeños or a ramekin of the ghost pepper chili to sprinkle in an order of their mac and cheese. It gives me a good kick but lets me finish a good snack without hating myself.)

I’m a big Sangria y Cerveza person. Breath of fresh air as far as West Plano bars go.
